Around The Corner

Stopped in for lunch after seeing the reviews. You have to be looking for it to find it as it is on the back corner of a building although they have various signs all around. It is a small very friendly place and the food is very good. The Bologna burger was excellent, cooked just right on a fresh bun. The blt was also very good. The fried chicken sandwich was fresh battered and fried to order and was excellent. The Philly steak was OK but nothing special. The French fries were hot and tasty for frozen potatoes. The sweet tea was good and the only disappointment was they didn’t have coconut cake this week as the desserts change daily. We will go back and try breakfast which they serve all day. Prices are reasonable and service is prompt and friendly!

Diners drive ins and dives needs to find this out of the way gem. You’ll be greeted by the nicest, friendliest hostess you ever want to meet. The menu is varied from breakfast anytime to burgers, salads and club sandwiches. On another trip I’ll definitely try the fried baloney and egg sandwich.

Wow, what a surprise. Thanks to Unilocalers for posting, cause you wouldn’t just stumble across this gem. So glad we stopped in. The owner was super friendly as was the chef. Our group tried a little of everything. Western omelet was my choice and I was not disappointed. We all shared a «Bologna Burger» as an appetizer, just because it was on the menu. This is not gormet by any stretch of the imagination, but evert hung was cooked to order and prepared very well.

After reading some reviews here on Unilocal I decided that I needed to visit Around The Corner and experience it for myself. It really is around the corner of a building on Willard Road.
I was (in my mind) late for breakfast and early for lunch so I asked about their BLT. Hearing the sales pitch on The BIG BLT with all that bacon, I said yes bring one to Big Poppa!
I didn’t speak for 15 minutes once that sandwich arrived! Too busy getting my bacon fix. Staff was very friendly and made you feel like you were home.
The décor is not even a thought here. It’s so basic. AND it didn’t even matter. The food and friendly people make this place a return or regular destination. Perhaps in the future they can expand to a easier setting for customers. But until then I will wind my way up to the bigger of the two small dining areas and make myself at home.

This place was a great find. Awesome customer service, affordable and delicious food. It’s like having a meal at your grandmas house! We had breakfast but I’ll definitely be back to check out lunch.

I went here for the first time and really enjoyed it! The bacon, egg & cheese on toast was delicious and the staff was super friendly. I will definitely be returning!

My dad and I went here today for a late lunch. I had the club and my Dad got the chicken philly special. Both were very good, as was the service. Even though I could hear a lot of phone orders coming in, our order was ready very quickly. Everyone there is very friendly.
Now here’s the best part. I later was looking for my wallet and couldn’t find it. It was driving me nuts. My doorbell rang, and it was Terry, the OWNER of the restaurant. She got in her car and drove it to my house!!! Close to 15 minutes away! Who does that?! This will be a business I will support for a LONG time.

Has breakfast here on my way out of Richmond. Not only was the food great but so was the service. The owner is such a sweet lady!

I travel all the time because I’m in sales but when I’m on the rd I always looks for those small independent restaurants where the locals go to eat. B/​c we all know the locals no where the good stuff is located. This place was amazing great customer service, great food and for a GREAT price. What more can you ask for. I most definitely will go back the next time in in Richmond Va. If you’re looking for some really good food this is the place to go.

Loved my breakfast at Around the Corner this morning. Thanks for fast friendly service as always. Never had a less than satisfying meal here. You will not be disappointed. Call for directions if needed. They are tucked away around the corner from West Broad Street off Willard Road.

Sometimes simple is a the most of a meal and dining experience. Theres no flare or posh décor here. A few tables here in there just in case you’d like to sit and eat, but don’t let the limited visual attraction fool you. The staff is utterly delightful without being too intrusive. The food was awesome. And the cutest lil elderly couple bouncing in the door exclaiming, «We’re back again!» And asking for staff by name make this a place we’re sure to return to! Had the breakfast special and there was no a single negative. Can’t wait to get back for some of their specials and desserts!

I little «hole in the wall» type place. Designed primarily for take out, but they do have a dining area.
I had the breakfast special after asking what they recommend. Didn’t let me down. Comes with two eggs (cooked to order), bacon or sausage patties, biscuit or toast & hash browns or grits. The grits were amazing. Heck everything was amazing. Highly recommend this place.

This is the perfect place to come for lunch if you’re like me and don’t like waking up any earlier than you have to. If I were an early riser I would be here every morning. Prices are right, portions are huge and the food is amazing! I think the lady that served us was the owner and she stayed ahead of my sweet tea refills. It was refreshing to see someone that truly looked excited and happy to have a small business in the community.

Great food, friendly service, large portions, and all for a great price!
Not a lot of atmosphere inside but the food and prices make up for that.
When you walk in it looks really small but there is more seating in the back of the restaurant.
The entrance was a little confusing at first but go in the door by the picnic table outside.

What an awesome place! My husband and I ate here this morning and we are so glad we found it on Unilocal!The waitress was very friendly and I love the atmosphere. Those were the best grits I have ever had and the biscuits were delicious. My husband loved the hot dogs and chili on them too! We’d love to go back, I wish we had a place like this back home!

This breakfast was probably one of the best I’ve had in a very long time. Everything tasted homemade and it wasn’t greasy at all. Both the omelette and the pancakes were made to perfection. This place is far from expensive and the service is very homely and friendly. The only thing I suggest for the owners of this establishment would be for them to interiorly decorate the place because it’s aesthetically bland. But hey, we go there to eat, not to enjoy the setting. Highly recommend if you’re in the Glen Allen/​Henrico area.

Very nice host and welcoming, food was very good and fresh. I’ve never tried grits and the server gave me a sample, it was very good.
The place is very clean and price was good as well, my husband and I enjoyed it there a lot .

Two days ago, I was on the Unilocal App and it said to check out the Restaurant, «Around the Corner». So, I kept looking to see what was around the corner of where I lived, and I really was confused… UNTIL, I realized it was talking about a Reastaurant named «Around the Corner». So, my curoisity was really up on what it was all about. I read the reviews, and seldom do I see all the Reviews at 5 Star, as usually someone including myself will find something wrong. So, I had to find this place and check it out, and BOY I am so glad I did…
It is really off the charts, and if I had not seen it on Unilocal,I would have never have seen this, as it is in a very unusal place, behind a industrial building. When, I parked I knew I was at the right place because of the huge Mural on the side of the building, and I was thinking… I have really hit a «Gem» of a place.
When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was HOW clean this place was but small… I was greeted by Terry who I found out later was the Manager/​Owner. She had that Southern Charm which made you feel extremely welcome. Her Chef was JUST as nice and she explained to me how everything is Homemade and the Special for the day was Pot Roast.
My intention was to order the Double Cheeseburger, however the Pot Roast Beef sounded good. I had a choice of two side which I chose Macaroni Salad and French Fries. The deserts were placed nicely in the glass case and I was told they too are all Homemade. NOW, I am beginning to think to myself… have I found a NEAT little Mom & Pop Restuarant.
I took a seat in the Lobby area to eat, as Terry explained to me that they have also a dining area with a painting on the wall… However, I wanted to sit next to the window, as I like to use Natural light for my Food Photos. Terry explained to me that they have been Opened for a year, and business is picking up. They are ONLY opened for Breakfast/​Lunch as they close at 2p. They serve Breakfast, even at lunch.
After eating, I took the tour by Terry, and I am glad I did. The painting on the wall is the Mural which was done by the same fellow who did the outside. You pass the Kitchen and the one thing I noticed is JUST how clean the kitchen is, so you know your food is coming out with NO contamination. IN addition, which I like… NO Styrofoam Plates with Plastic utizels. The REAL Deal here. That is a PLUS to me, as I hate paying $ 10. for a meal and eating out of Styrofoam plate, with a plastic Fork.
Check it out… it is a MUST try. You will NOT regret your visit, as I am thinking of when can I go there again, which will be soon. :-) Five Plus in my book!
