I feel that the store’s ginormous warehouse type space doesn’t live up to the expectation as far as content and variety. In he past I’ve found lots of vintage women’s apparel, but most are in the marm dress style of the ugly 70s-80s. There was this one time I was lucky and found a dropped waist dress that I was ALMOST in love with… if it weren’t so dingy. Couldn’t find a label on it so I was convinced it might have been from the 30s. But I am no expert, so I put it back based on the wear stains. It was pale minty green with sophisticated jewel embellishments. If you are in the search for tops, you will have very sore shoulders from passing so many turtleneck sweatshirts in search for a decent blouse. Also, a LOT of baggy short sleeve silk button ups. You’d think this store was created to dress for Bingo night. Also, when you find something you like, expect it to be too much for your coin. The good thing is that the shoe racks are very well organized, but sadly, I rather spend the $ 15 on brand new shoes on clearance at TJ Maxx down the road. The same goes for outerwear. $ 30 for a used London Fog parka I’ll have to get dry cleaned? Only at consignment would I consider spending that much. The handbags here are crazy in abundance. If you are looking for quality, your shoulders will also end up very sore from digging. From time to time they have a $ 0.99 rack, in which one time I scored a very pretty silk skirt. Savers unfortunately does not hold my interest… not even for a Halloween costume. Mainly because they are too pricey for what they offer as a «for profit» thrift store with very little reward or promotions.

Savers is one of the neatest thrift stores I have been too in a very long time. After a year of avoiding it, I gave in and decided to do some shopping. I can say that this Savers is very large but the bulk of the store is mostly clothing, which is all in the center of the store, men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes all neatly organized and in their proper places on the racks. I was in a hurry so I didn’t have time to fully inspect the clothes but I was impressed just by the placement. I went to the left right towards the media area. This is the only place I’ve seen where you can buy four books and get one free and by the looks of the book prices, this can be a potential gold mine for an avid reader looking for a new book to read. «Software» section was heavily lacking in games but the prices were decent, but they are individually marked. The CD selection was nice and a $ 1.99 price tag is cheaper then Goodwill but all of the CD’s there I either already own, or weren’t looking for. Only came out with one CD but I guess that’s the drawback of these kind of stores, you never know what you’re going to find. I made much better with the cassettes at only $ 0.99 a piece but I did leave two behind which I regret but by the amount of dust on them, they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. DVD’s were $ 3.99 and VHS tapes were $ 0.99. The selection for DVD’s isn’t that great but there were three rows of them. I didn’t find any that I wanted but I found one tape that I picked up. The videocassette selection is a lot larger by comparison but most to all of the tapes look t be in great condition. Made my way around back to the electronics but ended up passing the housewares isles and found a Polaroid 600 camera in the collectibles for eight dollars, snatched that up because it looked lonely. While passing down the aisles, you’ll see some of items like picture frames and wires in plastic bags placed on pegs against the wall. Not sure why they do this but these items usually run cheap and are often a bundle of small items put into a bag… always inspect them just to be sure. Electronics was a bust after walking over there, very little was on the shelves but the prices were reasonable. Eventually made my way to the register to pay out. Savers also has discounts based on colored tags much like Goodwill &SA do but I was pretty much unaware of what color was on sale today but it didn’t matter, I spent very little. This was a bit of an odd experience for me but I’d be more than happy to return on a daily basis just to see what new items get sent in, but all that red… kind of looks like a bloodbath If I think too hard about it.

If you are a plus size woman(and I know you’re out there, you beautiful thing!), Savers is, well, a life saver! Plus size clothing is ridiculous! It’s typically very poorly made, overpriced, and usually includes sweaters with kittens on them. Feiine fanatic I am, but in my home, not on my body. If one searches, quality plus-size clothing can be found; but at a not-so-friendly price. $ 129 for a sweater, JJill? Please. While your wardrobe can be punctuated by such a piece, it simply is not feasible for the average middle classer to build a wardrobe that way. Enter the thrift and second-hand stores. Except, the more common one, Salvation Army, color blocks their clothes. Whose brilliant idea is that? How many people think: I need a green sweater and am willing to shift through every green sweater in every size to find one? Nope. No way. Not me. I had given up on thrift stores for clothing… until Savers came along. Now us ample-sized folks can quickly and efficiently look for second-hand clothes easily and efficiently. Hooray! While they have the typical fashion jewelry, they also have a considerable amount of fine jewelry which is enjoyable to peruse. Well organized. Clean. Bright. With a Super Savers Club reward program that offers you coupons and additional savings at various times of the year. I can, you can, we all can shop with abandon, thanks to Savers!

Savers is humongo huge. If you are one of those people that are not sure about thrifting I recommend that this is the first place you start to get accustomed the thrifting experience. They carry loads of brands — I scored a brand new London Fog coat for $ 7 here and 1969 Gap Jeans for $ 6. You can spend a lot of time in here, and it would be great for a family to do their back to school shopping. Student Discounts on Wednesdays! 25% off with Club Card too(I have one it is free to sign up) and they have a day for Senior Citizens as well(I can’t remember but I am pretty sure it is Tuesday). Savers has a lot of stuff in stellar condition opposed to the dingier thrift stores with over filled racks. I love this store because you can actually pull the stuff apart and not have everything fall off of it and the store is extremely organized. Also, if you are someone that is afraid that they won’t have your size, they have a very awesome plus size section for you. I have a family member that wouldn’t go thrifting with me because she said that plus sized clothes are always ugly and worn out and she was very happy when I took her to this place. Happy shopping!

I do like to do my thrift shopping once in a while… I had a Savers where I lived in MA, so I decided to check this locale out. This place is really large, and quite clean and well organized for a thrift store. I was able to find some good deals: a cute, barely worn pair of steve madden heels for me(6.99), a bunch of books for the kids(.99 each), some nice picture frames — I have to say that some of them still had people’s pics in them, ouch that is cold! Some of their stuff did seem a little overpriced for what they were(especially in the clothing area), but all in all not a bad place to check out. I must add, he people working there were extremely nice, which is always a bonus!

Savers represents the next step in the evolution of thrift stores. Must be a sign of the times… a FOR profit enterprise that partners with local charities. Most thrift stores tend to pop up in older plazas & generally fill retail slots abandoned by a failed business. A good example of this locally would be the AMVETS located in the former Steve & Barry’s. While this store occupies half of the space formerly known as Dick’s Sporting Goods. they’ve made it feel like a brand-new store, with cheerful signage touting their missio, all lit by shiny fluorescent lights. A far cry from the dingy environs of competing thrift stores. Savers is THE thrift supermarket. What I dig most about Savers is their selection of goods. Well laid out and sorted. I’ve found a lot of cool books there! The only concern I have with Savers is exactly HOW much money their partner charities receive…

They don’t know how to price things. some managers are very unfriendly. They don’t really care about the community, as they are a FORPROFIT business! They only give a tiny percentage of what they make to big brothers and big sisters of America.(less than 15% of their money is donated). Their impact on the environment is HORRIBLE! *****Support some other place that isn’t for profit.(Go to AVBI Goodwill. they care about the community, their employees, and their environmental impact they have as well, unlike savers).***** The employees are not even treated fairly: –There is favoritism, –unfair write-ups, –unrealistic expectations placed on everyone every day, — and the supposed positive atmosphere doesn’t go a step beyond the doors to the back processing room.(The sales floor seems positive. The way the employees are treated in the back room is negative and would be an eye-opening experience for a customer to see what really goes on.) Oh, and don’t forget the fact that they don’t recycle any items besides cloth. Everything else is tossed, at least 2 big garbage bins full of housewares items, every day! BOTTOMLINE: DON“T SUPPORT A STORETHATHAS A NEGATIVEIMPACTONITSENVIRONMENT, EMPLOYEES, &IS ***FORPROFIT***!!! ”

This is one of six Savers stores in NYS and the first in this region. My first experience with Savers was at the location in Mineola. Savers generally has ultra affordable items and a wide selection with varied stock. I really liked the one I would go to in Mineola, but it was quite small and some departments were a tad limited. This location, well, this one takes the cake. Somehow they managed to fill what used to be a super Dick’s Sporting Goods. This store is massive, possibly the largest thrift store I’ve ever visited. Awesome stock, I found a handful of vintage Pendleton wool shirts and immaculate tailored dress shirts. The record selection was okay and the housewares were brimming over. It just opened last week, and the place is already at capacity! With time, this place can only get better. I really like Savers and I think this one has an edge on the other shops just off this stretch of Jefferson. I hate to blow up my own spot like this, but this is already one of my favorite shops in the area. Oh, and before I forget, they also have an incentives for frequent shoppers, a plus if you are a thrift store junkie like me!
