Very disappointed. Chef does not take pride in what he sends out of kitchen. Dried out chicken, over cooked vegetables, burned sausage. I Will never return.

Great food — very attentive staff. Always pleasantly greeted. Don’t understand some of these reviews. I never had to ask for my water glass to be refilled! Tried so many great dishes — calamari, grilled shrimp with burnt string beans to the delicious veal dishes. The chicken A La Vargas is amazing… Perhaps people should give it another try!

In order for me to give a restaurant one star, you must have done some really wrong and tonight was the night. This was the first time we went to Cucina Di Vargas and will definitely be the LAST. Our party of 8 started with appetizers(baked clams and Calimari)…Neither were spectacular but acceptable. Next they brought out some pasta dishes. The only star was the broccoli and garlic and the spaghetti with Bolognese sauce was very bland. Here is where everything went off the rails. We ordered the main dishes which after another hour did not come out. We kept complaining and the waiter said our dish would be 3 minutes…20 minutes later… No food. During this time, there was no offer of water on the table, no bread… NOSERVICE. We finally walked out of the dining room along with other patrons. The owner’s excuse was the kitchen is small and has issues. If the kitchen is small then get you ASS in the kitchen and help the staff. I hope people will read this review and stay away from this place.

Great food. Awful services. It is obvious there are many regulars there –and waiters forgot all about us first timers. Finally got up and got our own cheese. No dishes were served to us by staff although every other table was. We didnt bother to complain –simply enjoyed the food and great company we had. A shame because we are not planning to go back anytime soon. I hate being ignored.

A very nice family running a family style Italian restaurant perfectly .They are copying a successful formula from a previous restaurant that was a five towns fixture for many years. There are no surprises here just delicious food served in a nice quiet atmosphere. The room is small so it gets cramped on crowded nights but that’s because everyone wants to eat here! They do honor reservations. Eat here… you will leave happy

As local as it gets. «Where everyone knows your name» in the Bermuda Triangle of Hewlett’s Little Italy. Standard family style Italian done well. Staff very attentive. Came with group of 8. Had a bunch of dishes for the table. All were very good. It’s a small space with limited décor, but overall a good choice in the area.

Probably the best restaurant in the south shore of Long Island to go with the family. Portions are huge and one order is enough for two people. So, we were 4 including two kids. We ordered one chicken marsala and two baked clams, also a salad for two. It was more than enough. We wanted to leave space for dessert, here are delicious and two of them also enough for all of us. Great wine, a little overpriced compare to the food but it is okay. Very nice, delicious food.

Great experience– as an out of towner, the owner Erica made us feel like family. Had the baked clams, mozzarella sticks, chopped salad, penne al la vodka and the stuffed chicken special– everything was delicious! Service was excellent, will definitely be back!

Came here last night. I was going to have dinner with hubby but it turns out we forgot about a concert his mom was in at a high school so he went to the concert and I went the meeting I had to cover after work. I walked in this place before getting on the train because I wanted to Unilocal them and haven’t tried them. They had my order done pretty fast, I had my food in hand before it was time for my train and I sampled a cappuccino while waiting. I don’t understand the five star reviews, the place was decent but not delectably delicious enough to warrant five stars or even a second visit. The atmosphere is semi questionable. The inside of the restaurant looks terrific. It’s tastefully decorated with a hint of Italian, comfy and elegant at the same time. The outside windows however are tinted to black so before going in there to dine you wonder what the hell you are getting into and if you could possibly be taking your life in your hands. One tip, the food is family style. So if you do eat there share the dish, if you’re single be prepared to take a lot of food home enough to last you the entire week. Unless you are a binge eater and can stuff it all down the chute at once. I got a half order of penne with broccoli, potatoes and olive oil. When it was ready I was presented with a take out shopping bag. Then it hit me how big the order really was when I realized I was carrying it out with me in a half size catering tray tin. I was also struck by how cheap a half size order was. Carmines in the city would charge double the price, they are the only other family style restaurant I’ve eaten in. They gave me bread with the order but they left the bread open to germs while travel inside the shopping bag, luckily I had a sandwich bag with me to seal the bread. I was traveling on two trains and didn’t really want my bread acquiring a bunch of massive transit germs. Also they had no plastic forks to offer for people who might want to eat their food on the run. The waitress was nice enough to give me a restaurant fork and told me not to worry about returning it even though I offered to. I guess they wouldn’t since they would assume you’d take an order back home with you, but what if a group of people wanted to share the tray outside or something? I looked pretty awkward carrying a catering tray of food on the trains with me. So after all that here’s what I thought about the food. The cappuccino was alright. It had a little bit of a strong tinge to it, not that perfect cappuccino flow that comes from a great Italian restaurant. The food was also okay. It wasn’t great but it had a decent flavor and wasn’t awful either. The bread was fresh, not too soft or hard. Everything would have been bland without the olive oil and additional spices but they saved the dish and added some flavor. So the place wasn’t too bad but I don’t think I’d go back again wasn’t all that impressed.

For those who love to try different dishes, this restaurant gives you options. Even the HALF portions are enough to feed the St Thomas Aquinas Marching Band! Not only are they huge but expertly prepared and flavorful. Mangia! Mangia!
