Had a great ribeye at Angus on Friday. Cooked perfect on a sizzling hot platter. Chopped salad and homemade onion rings. Perfect!

The Angus is the absolute best place to eat in Longview or Hickory. I hadn’t been in a while, but finally returned, and ate like a starving man. Delicious food, friendly staff, and prices that are the best anywhere. Here’s to the Angus, may you forever be a place for old friends to gather and enjoy superb food. A loyal patron — –Rick Carswell

I hadn’t had a good steak in a LONG time. I decided to venture to the Angus Steak house on a Tuesday evening, about seven pm. Definitely an off night as far as the locals are concerned — and so much the better. It can get really crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, because this is not a large restaurant! I love all types of steak, but I have gravitated over the years to a rib-eye. Rib-eye’s have better marbling, which contributes to tenderness and flavor. I ordered the biggest rib eye that they had, which was a ten ounce version. Typical sides: salad, baked potato, and rolls. Sweet tea. I enjoyed watching a cheesy movie on their big screen TV in the dining room. I took notice of the homey interior, which includes a bar, pool table, and juke box. This place would feel right at home in Austin, Texas, because the décor is dark Texas honky-tonk circa 1975. Ordering procedure is: order at the counter, be seated, and the food will be brought to you. Leave a tip. Pay at the register when leaving. The salad? Just your basic fresh chopped salad with lettuce, tomato, carrots, celery, green peppers, etc. No croutons — crackers instead. A very basic, but good salad. I actually heard my steak coming from twenty feet away, with my back turned. Why? SIZZLE! You know the sound that Mexican restaurants showcase when one orders fajitas? Same deal. The steak was cooked perfectly to just below medium. It took about two minutes before the sizzling subsided — talk about being served nuclear hot. The steak was about an inch thick and absolutely delicious. It was served with grilled onions on top, which I adore. There were three types of steak sauces on the table, basically generic Heinz 57, A1, and Worchester sauces. The baked potato was served with a BIG, heart stopping hunk of butter, and it was basically — just heavenly. Baked potato mixed with butter, residual meat juices and steak sauce, salt, and pepper = yum to the max. My large sweet tea was pretty good as well. Service was friendly, unobtrusive, but the server/owner admittedly forgot about refilling my tea glass on one occasion — not a big deal, because I didn’t run out of tea. He was friendly and helpful, and he made me feel right at home immediately. My bill was $ 20.50 total for a salad, a perfectly cooked ten oz. rib-eye steak with grilled onions, baked potato, a huge glass of sweet tea, and a Junior mint. I really enjoyed my meal, and although I didn’t brown bag any wine, it’s nice to know that option is available.

Great food, gets a little crowded on Friday nights though. Well worth it.
