If there was a –10, I would give it to this hotel. I was there this past weekend(02⁄27&02⁄28) the night supervisor was a complete jerk. Our rooms were disgusting. It smelled awful in the rooms, stains on the beds and pillow cases, hair in the towels, splatter marks on the headboard, mold in the bathrooms on floor and ceilings. I asked to be moved, it took moving me three times to stay in a room that was almost clean. I had booked off of Priceline and asked to just leave and get my money back. The guy was such a jerk that he would rather not refund 127.27(cost for both nights booked on PL) than to make sure a customer felt clean, safe and left happy. I would think twice before booking this room. It looks like a hotel you see that would have rates to book by the HR.

I booked this hotel because of the deal on Expedia. Normally, the room with Double Queens/no smoking is $ 120/night for two people but I got it for $ 64/night(non-refundable). This was a steal. It wasn’t as close to the area we would have ideally like to have been but this was in the middle of tourist season in western NC and it wasn’t that much of a drive to those places but I knew that going in. Check-in was very fast. I don’t like maid service in my room when I stay at hotel(I don’t like them possibly stealing my stuff) so I always had the do not disturb sign on the door. The room was neat and appeared clean. However, there were a few DIY fixes that looked as if they had been done by a four year old. I wish I had remembered to take pictures. I was in Room 104 and it looked like someone had ripped the shower curtain bar off the wall and patched it horribly and didn’t bother to match the previous paint job to the new one. When they replaced, or fixed, the toilet they did the world’s worst caulk job where it meets the floor. Also, the entry door’s lock had once been busted and the patch job on the door frame was poor as well. This doesn’t make it a horrible stay for me but it did annoy me a bit, especially since I did pay such a low price! If I had paid full price, however, I would’ve been quite upset at what my money had gotten in return. It also makes me worry what else they cut corners on. On the second to last night, there was about 10 people upstairs having a party and being very loud. They woke us up around 3am. When it didn’t stop after about 5 minutes I called the front desk and kept getting no answer. So my dad went to the office to see what why nobody was answering. The noise almost immediately stopped so I peeked out the door and saw someone in a hotel uniform and asked if he had been the one who stopped it. He said he had and that he was the only one on duty and that was why we weren’t getting an answer when we called. So it was nice that he was already taking care of the problem when we called but by not having anybody else on staff to take calls it made the situation a little more frustrating. I couldn’t get back to sleep for 2 more hours. On a previous morning, they only had one person on duty as well. That is poor management and seems to be another method of cutting costs. The beds were comfortable and I have a bad back.

Well the key stopped working and had to go to desk to get it fixed. No I am sorry or we hate that happened to you. Later when I took my shower I noticed the the toilet would not flush. I thought that maybe because the water was running it would not fill. When I tried to flush later it still did not work. I called the front desk as was told that no one from maintenance was here and that I could come use the toilet in the lobby. Really??? Walk across the parking lot everytime I needed to go? I had about decided that even though i was l ready dressed for bed I was just going to pack up and leave Then the phone rang and I was told there was a cancellation and could be moved. I was brought a key but before I was given the key he had to make sure the toilet was not working. Why would I lie about a toilet??? Nope never again avoid this place if possible.

I like this no frills hotel. The location is great, but most importantly, the rooms are clean. Staff is very attentive. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Hickory area. Good price, clean rooms, and nice staff. Could use a little updating, but clean means more to me than new paint.
