While writing this review, my conscience is in the background protesting loudly, because I’m 100% certain that the owners and people who work here are genuinely nice folks, however… I’ve lived in the area for over twenty years, and this was my first visit, and I’m sorry to say, probably my last. My table was both dirty and sticky, and so were all the surrounding tables. The floor was noticeably dirty and needed sweeping. One table had three wadded up napkins under the legs to balance it. I didn’t see a sanitation rating displayed anywhere, and after seeing the condition of this restaurant, believe me, I looked. The Catawba county area of the NC Public Inspection website lists no inspections for«Mountain View Subby’s» — none. Other restaurants in the area have records going back to 2011. I ordered an eight inch ham and cheese sub loaded, toasted bread. Chips. Soda. Price? @$ 9.35. The wait was nearly fifteen minutes, even though my order was the only one. The only way that I knew someone was working there, was the constant chopping sound emanating from the kitchen. When my sandwich came out, I couldn’t believe it.(See the photos.) The sandwich was 95% lettuce — hence the chopping sound heard earlier. ONE slice of poultry based ham per half,(more on that in a moment,) one slice of cheese per half, one thin slice of tomato for the entire sandwich, no peppers, and literally a quarter to half a head of lettuce. I had a mild allergic reaction to the inexpensive, poultry based ham. Maybe its a good thing that they were so stingy with the ham. I had to get my own drink and refills. The help was busy watching«Family Feud, «on a countertop TV, which was at loud volume. The young, ginger haired fellow working there, asked how my food was, told me to «have a great day, buddy,» and the«owner» came out of the kitchen to thank me for stopping by — nice people. I wish that I could write a kinder review, but it is what it is. (See my photos, and tell me what you think. For almost $ 10, I could have gotten a heck of a Rueben, with pastrami piled three inches deep, at Jason’s Deli.)

If you enjoy a messy sub sandwich and taste good to boot, then Subby’s is your place. The have a standard selection of subs and other items on the menu. The subs come in Half(8″) or Whole(16″). I normally get the Italian sub. The half sub is around $ 6 bucks and the whole is $ 10. I am a big fellow and the half sub is filling. I included a picture of my sub. They also have pizzas and other options. I have only had the subs. The service is good and the employees make you feel at home. The interior is not fancy and reminds me of an old diner/greasy spoon place. If you want a good sub and you are in the Hickory area, I think Subby’s is a good choice for you money.
