The food is always on point! Best wings in the triad! And the burgers are out of this world!!!

Been here twice now and the food and service were excellent both times. Very good moist chicken and the medium bbq sauce has great flavor. Sides are good, portions are perfect.

This is a little gem in High Point. I was born and raised here in High Point, NC and didn’t try Big Ed’s Chicken Pit until I was an adult. I can’t believe I waited this long to try it. The establishment makes you feel like you’re eating with your family and friends, from the comfy, country décor to the excellent waitstaff. They’re all quite friendly. You really can’t beat the prices, nor the food. One item that sets them apart is the BBQ shredded chicken. I love getting the plate with the local vegetables and potato salad. And if you’re feeling fried chicken, you CANNOT go wrong. It’s perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I would go here 3 times a week if I could. Love this place!

Only place in HP I will drive all the way from Winston-Salem to eat! Definitely different than any other BBQ or fried chicken joint in the Triad, and that’s a good thing! Try the half hot BBQ chicken, best ever! Always great service thanks Alanna!

Have you tried their deserts? They are better than any bakery in the area. Amazing, fresh and made on site. The icings are to die for and she is extremely creative in her choices. The chicken salad is excellent and the chicken pot pie is as good as any homemade. They are very personable and did I mention the deserts??? White Chocolate Cake is my favorite, but try them all.

Food was good… portion size was good and service was good. I didn’t appreciate that I was charged 10 bucks for a shandwich and a side to then be charged for a cup of tap water. Seriously … straight out of the sink and 30 cents. I’m dropping $ 10 for lunch on a sandwich and a side… think a cup of tap water should be included. I want return… little things like charging for a cup of water and 10 bucks on what i had. I will take my business to one of tbe other places near by when in tje area. This liitle hole of a restaurant. What’s the overhead 500 month.

I see that in April someone posted that Big Ed’s isn’t what it used to be and wrote a so-so review. Well, I am happy to say that Big Ed’s is back and in great form! My husband and I ate lunch there today and were very pleased. We both had quarter-white chicken plates with two sides. I had my chicken fried — it was excellent — and my husband had barbeque chicken.(I am not a fan of barbequed chicken at any restaurant; my husband, however, said that his was delicious.) The sides were very good as well(the macaroni and cheese is outstanding). On Saturdays, as of this writing, dessert is free and wow, was it good! I must mention, too, that our waitress was a happy, friendly person who made the meal very enjoyable. It was so nice to have a waitress who actually enjoyed her job and made sure that the customers were attended to! Big Ed’s doesn’t look like much from the road; in fact, it is hard to see the restaurant from Main Street. The inside of the restaurant is about what you would expect from a neighborhood restaurant — nothing exceptional but not bad either. There is a patio outside the back of the restaurant if you prefer to eat outdoors. Apparently after the owners split up, the restaurant went through some rough spots. The building has since been renovated, and is now up and running without any of the problems that other reviewers posted during those tough times. If you stayed away bacause of a less than stellar experience then, you might want to give the restaurant another chance now. You won’t be disappointed. This is a cash only restaurant, so bring your money with you. If you don’t have it, there is an ATM in the restaurant that you can use. Overall, for this type of casual dining neighborhood restaurant, at this point Big Ed’s deserves a five star rating.

Not what it used to be! This was one of my favorite restaurants. Their fried chicken was like no other. Well it isn’t like that any more. Very disappointing. When the couple split up, the restaurant went down hill big time. If the food gets back to where it was, please let us know. I sure do miss the great chicken of old.

Big Ed’s is fantastic. I haven’t tried everything since the menu expanded but the wings are high quality. If you enjoy having wings and a beer is a laid back setting, give Big Ed’s a try. The only draw back is the small size of the dining area and the TVs are new but not well placed.

First trip was great. I really enjoyed the quarter chicken. Very unique flavor, and nice, crispy skin. The Mac and Cheese is great as well. Prices are loooow! Second trip was horrible. I took a friend from the office, and told him all about the food here. Oops. We arrived around 12:45, and sat. Here’s how the conversation went with our waitress: «We’re out of chicken.» Ummm.. . hmm. We’re at «Big Ed’s Chicken Pit».. . It’s not like we lined up at Franklin BBQ at 10:30, and they ran out of brisket. I mean.. come on.. . OK.. . So my friend orders the chicken salad sandwich, and I order the chopped chicken sandwich. I guess that chicken was made yesterday or something. I also asked prior to ordering if it had slaw. The woman said«you can get it if you want it», and I said«no.. . no slaw please». And of course it had slaw. Of course it did. After getting a replacement sandwich, I couldn’t eat more than half of it. The chopped chicken is average, and the sauce they put on there is waaay too vinegary and hot. What a disappointment. And apparently, if you stay past 1:15, they break out some terrible smelling cleaning product or something. The whole place smelled so bad, we couldn’t pay fast enough. I felt so bad, I had to buy my friend’s lunch. Bummer. I won’t be heading back. It’s a shame, b/c everyone there is so nice. Ohh well. There are too many choices in the area to waste time at Big Ed’s.

I’m very surprised by the other comments that compare Big Ed’s Chicken Pit to traditional NCBBQ joints. Their name should be a big hint to you that’s not going to be Lexington Style pork shoulder. Far and away the best thing on the menu is the BBQ chicken pieces, not the shredded chicken. One thing that I’ll give the critics is that the shredded chicken, being breast meat, is a bit bland to my taste. On the other hand, the BBQ chicken pieces are excellent. Try ordering it HOT. The hot sauce is not the kind that burns and overwhelms, but rather the head starts to build on your lips after the first few bites. The parking lot is gravel, and the outside of Big Ed’s makes the joint look like the size of a shed. It’s not. There’s plenty of room inside, bit I wouldn’t go here if your party is larger than 8 or so unless you are OK with splitting up. You’ll need CASH, and if you happen to forget there is a CashPoints ATM right across Main St in front of the Lowes. If I can give you one last tip it would be to make sure to order the dessert of the day. The owner(Beth) makes one cake each day, and once it’s gone it’s gone! If there’s one thing I don’t like it’s that the bathrooms are located in a very odd place. They are almost outhouses in the middle of the dining room! Grab a booth and pass on the tables in the center of the room if you want to avoid the traffic at the bathroom doors.

This is a different kind of barbecue joint, one that serves chopped chicken, rather than chopped pork. The chicken is fried, or maybe braised, and then shredded, and a home made Eastern NC style barbecue sauce is added. This is served on a sandwich, or on a plate, just like pork is at so many NC restaurants. I have tried both the sandwich and the plate, and find that I prefer the sandwich with slaw rather than a plate. The slaw and bread kind of mellow out the chicken — makes for a nice sandwich They also offer wings(they’re great) with just about any level of heat you want. Today, we just ate wings(really spicy) and fries, and the fries are simply great. The hamburger and hot dog here are good, not great, The cakes here, on the other hand, are great, and home made. Order anything with chocolate — out of sight.

When in North Carolina you have to have North Carolina BBQ at least once, so I stopped in here. While North Carolina BBQ is mainly known for its pulled pork BBQ, it just was not what I wanted so knowing they were a chicken joint, I figured I’d stop in. I ordered a plate of wings — BBQ style — and ordered them spicy with and ordered them with fries. They come out with a tray full of fresh hot fries and a basketful of wings. While they used their«code 3» sauce, I didn’t find it quite as spicy as I expected /wanted, so they provided me with their«code 4» sauce. Code 4 was a bit spicier, but still not quite as spicy as I would have liked. Be aware that North Carolina BBQ is vinegar based and this place was no exception. Vinegar based BBQ takes getting used to. While Ed’s was good, I am not a big fan of vinegar based myself. The wait staff is very on top of things here and they are there to help you out and fill your cup quickly. Very nice owner as well, as he comes out and asked how you like your meal. It is a very local place and worth the visit provided you like NC style BBQ.
