Stopped in when driving out of town on a road trip. Saw the diner sign and shiny silver façade and thought it would be a good choice. Wow, should have hit the gas instead. Restaurant was almost empty on a Sunday morning, should have taken this as a hint. Menu was very limited, expecting to see some sort of omelette with bacon or a simple choice of chipped beef. Tried to ask a question of the waiter and he wrote an order down without taking my question into consideration, and alas my order was wrong. Not a huge deal, I’ll just ask to get it replaced. Waited for a long time for someone to check onus, finally waived a lady down who I thought was a manager. She saw me and fetched our waiter who proceeded to replace the wrong order. Right food came out and the potatoes were bland and unseasoned. Eggs Benedict was flavorless and spinach was clearly previously frozen and watery. Wish I would have Unilocaled ahead of time this go-round.

Absolutely horrible. Terrible food, horrific, nightmare type management. Will never return. Wouldn’t give this food to the homeless.

So the food here is moderately ok. But what do you expect from an old diner on the other side of the bridge? What I loved about this place was the way they treated my kids. One guy that I assume was an owner was very grandfatherly with the kids and they loved it. Yes we had to run someone down to get a refill. But the music wasn’t super loud so we could enjoy conversation without shouting and my kids had fun. That’s a significant difference from most restaurant experiences, especially if you have a bunch of kids with you.(We were there with our three kids and some friends who also have three kids)

This place is disgustingly filthy. Saw the bathrooms and cancelled our order and left. Truck stop bathrooms are cleaner than here! Pie case was full of moisture and everything had that dirt haze to it. Felt like the place hadnt been cleaned since the 80s

I sad to give such a negative review on a local place. We stopped in here after a doctors visit for a dinner meal. The diner is clean inside, quiet environment. We were seated by our server who took our drink orders. After looking thru the menus, she ordered a green salad with chicken, and a crock of French soup to start. I ordered the Pot Roast special, with mashed potatoes and veggies, which included a soup, I chose the cream of spinach, and salad bar. To start, the salad bar was a let down, some lettuce greens, peppers, cukes and grapes, real light selections. Had more selections of salad dressing than veggies. The pot roast was eh, and the potatoes were watery mash, almost like grits, horrible. The server told us a few times«I’ll b right over with your drinks», needless to say, they didn’t arrived till after the main course was out. Again, I don’t like downing local places, but this diner needs some improvement on food and servers.

I’ve lived in Highland for about 10 years. Every year or so I go back just too see if anything has changed. It hasn’t. Everything about this place is disgusting. The table, silverware and walls were dirty. The coffee was awful. The French toast tasted like old grease. I’ve never had a good meal from this place. I don’t even understand how they are still open for business.

The key to this place is breakfast. I recommend the Greek omelette with well-done home fries. You won’t be disappointed. Despite what others have said, I liked the coffee. Dinner was not nearly as good. I’ve been here three times; the staff has always been very friendly and food comes up quick. It’s a nice bright and warm spot on a cold day. I really like the traditional neon and stainless steel exterior.

Affordable breakfast with a friendly staff. Yeah, it’s not elite cuisine, but what do you expect out of a place where you get a whole page of 5 dollar breakfast deals that get served to you on a plate at your table rather than in a paper bag through a drive through window.

Where’s the hate coming from? I’ve been here twice. I don’t remember much about the first time, but the second time was for a breakfast meeting. Service was prompt, the muffins are huge(and toasted), and for $ 5 I got a French toast, a pancake, an egg, bacon, one or two other things in there as well. It was good value, good food, and good service. This place is NOT disgusting, it’s kept up very well inside. Perhaps some of the wait staff are not good at serving, I can’t judge that because I did not experience that. It’s a pretty standard diner as far as they would go by Jersey standards, but I have to give 4 stars to counterbalance the unnecessarily low ratings here. No, really, give it a shot. I’ll keep coming back until I have a reason not to.

This is place is utterly disgusting. Do NOT go here. I’ve had countless experiences that were all just terrible. The chef is rude(yes, I’ve had the chef come out, try, and choke on a piece of strawberry shortcake that tasted like burnt chemicals) and the wait staff simply do not listen to what you say. I’ve gone many times and one time I went because of a meeting there and knowing how atrocious the food is i simply ordered water. Just water. THEYEVENDIDTHATWRONG!!! I found a lemon seed in my water when it had absolutely no lemon in it otherwise. Aside from my personal experiences, I know a man who works in the pest control business and he’s had jobs there. He said it’s the most vial restaurant kitchen he’s ever been in, and that’s saying a lot! Neither of us would ever recommend this place. Seriously, DONOTGO!

I don’t get anything special on the menu when it comes to diners. Get a burger or a wrap you won’t get disappointed in the end when you get the check.

Horrible service, horrible disgusting food. Ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and it tasted like someone literally dumped cherry cough medicine in it. My hamburger was still raw and my fries were burnt. Even though the Gateway Diner is the closest diner to me… I will be re-locating to the Alexis Diner from now on. 25 dollars down the drain for shit food

Do yourself a favor and go to the BK across the street before you stop in here. I’ve given Gateway many chances, simply because it is conveniently located very close to my home. Each time has been less than satisfactory, to put it nicely. This review is about last night’s visit. Service was horrible. The waitress was very curt and acted as though it was an annoyance that we were even there. Food was disgusting. My partner got the salad bar with his dinner, which was full of wilted, brown lettuce and mushy, old tomatoes. Chicken parm, we would have done better going and picking up a frozen one from Hannaford. My turkey club had the same mushy, old tomatoes and maybe one piece of bacon on it total. One part of the dish impressed me, though, because I have never seen such a variation of burnt, to soggy, to completely cold and not-cooked french fries in my life. This lack of quality has been consistent each time, with my partner becoming violently ill after one visit a couple years back and finding yummy hairs in my food on multiple occaisons. I now solemnly vow to never return.

Excellent coffee :) Breakfast was good and our plates were cleaned. The sausage was quite good and the pancakes were just fine. Waitress was less than thrilled to be working on a Sunday morning, but we all have bad days. Other servers seemed fine.

ok place, i had the $ 5 breakfast special every day for 5 days. it includes coffee. as far as watery coffee, well it wasn’t that bad. heck everyone around here drinks dunkin donuts coffee like it was the gold standard. i agree the pancakes are funky. but everything else was ok. very reasonable prices and service was good. everyone there spoke English and what do you need a knife for at a diner i wonder. I mean if you’re ordering steak from a diner, then you are the one who needs help, get a clue, its a diner.

Clean, friendly service and the food was prepared well but the ingredients were of average quality and it tasted as much: dark, flavorless, watery coffee; low-grade bacon strips and generic out-of-the-box pancake mix. We tried, now I gotta get a hotdog from Elias House of Sausages/Meat Market to chase the bad taste away.

The service was sub par including the table of 12 that came in 15 minutes after us that got their food first. The salad bar should be renamed the condiment cart. Also I was more able to cut my meal with a nickel from my pocket then the cheap knife that was provided. It might have been the only knife the TSA would let on a plane. I’m still not sure if any of the employees spoke English.
