When I read on a Stapleton Moms’ bulletin board that someone was paying $ 25 to get their 5-year old kid’s hair cut, I scoffed. Then, I found myself at a children’s salon in Highlands Ranch with my mother and 5-month old daughter, shelling out $ 16 for a haircut for a baby. Guh. There was no way I was going to cut my daughter’s hair on my own. She whips her head around and I know I’d wind up gouging out an eye or something. The experience at Snip-Its was a positive one, if not a little surreal. I sat in the chair with my daughter in my lap, and the stylist deftly maneuvered Lily’s whipping head. She managed to give her a trim that didn’t scream, «LOOK! I’M A BABYWITH A HAIRCUT!» That was nice. My kid had hair in her eyes; she doesn’t now. We were offered the«Baby’s First Haircut» package which included a certificate(a certificate!?!) and a photo, but I declined, thanks. It did seem like a fun place for kids and the stylists really had a grasp on what they were doing. They do have a VIP club that offers product discounts and ease of setting up appointments, and they gave(older) children little ticket things they get to redeem at the end of the haircut experience for a little toy, which is nice. Also, there are lots of children’s books in good shape lying around to read, and they had a cartoon playing on a screen, too. But dude. $ 16? Evidently I’m in the wrong business.
