Very competitively priced drinks and cupcakes. Free wifi is pretty fast — good for getting work done. Brother Mo(the barista/owner) is very nice and friendly, and helps everyone feel like they’re part of a community.

I enjoyed this place. It is one of the few unique /independent coffee shops left. I saw a show there and enjoy the fact that they promote the art of music. The coffee was good and so was the atmosphere.

I love down the street from kitamu, bout a mile so it’s convenient, I sometimes walk there in the summer. The drinks are fab and they host events too, perfect for an artistic mind. If you’re looking for a hidden treasure in Columbus, this is your place. Instead of going to Starbucks next time, head to kitamu instead.

The coffee was pretty good, but the atmosphere was a little dull. I walked in expecting a lot of life but I was the only person there in a dimly lit café. I would revisit for the coffee but it’s not an ideal place to get reading and studying done because of the poor lighting. I was surprised with how friendly the barista was, considering it looked like she’d been all by herself all morning.

Pros: Good coffee. Competitively priced to other small coffee shops. Creative atmosphere. Events on a regular basis. Clean space. Cons: Sometimes not open on time. Review: I enjoy the atmosphere of this place and highly enjoy the art on the walls. The teens seem very invested and involved in this cute coffee shop, and the owner, Moe, is a super nice guy. There are also social events here like book signings and small concerts. Plus the coffee is really good. Can’t go wrong – unless it’s closed!

Geez, it was hard to figure out when this place opened in the day. The info on Unilocal was completely wrong, and they don’t post their hours in the window. I tried to get there at an early time on Sundays about three times before finally figuring out to track the hours down on their Facebook page. Even then, I got there at 11am(their Facebook-posted time) and no one was to be found. I finally found life there on a weekday morning at 8:30am, which apparently is itself a very new opening time for them, as the employee happened to mention, not just to me but to at least one other customer who came in. She seemed surprised anyone was there that early, least of all folks she didn’t recognize as regulars. (I’ve submitted new business hours info based on their Facebook page, so hopefully by the time you’re reading this, it’ll be correct.) The fact that the only place you can find their hours is a place you’re most likely to look if you’re already a customer suggests to me the downside of being a homey, friendly place with lots of regulars and a strong community commitment. Those are all great qualities that some previous reviews call out. I just wonder if it makes it easy to forget where the new customers might go to look for key information(such as Unilocal, their perpetually unfinished non-FB website, and, erm, the business’s window). Anyway, I had a very calm and quiet morning there, got a lot of work done, got my tea topped off a few times, and had a lovely vegan cupcake that was not from Pattycake(and not priced like it was, either). Most everything about Kitamu, when it is open, is A-OK. I’d been here once before a couple of years ago, and though I apparently didn’t write a Unilocal review, I remember telling(non-local) friends about being somewhere with a «suburban hippie» vibe, complete with barefoot patchouli kids playing guitar on the curb in front and another musician pitching his craft to someone(owner, probably?) at the next table. Is it me or is there no lock on the bathroom door? If there was, I didn’t spot it. I could be wrong about that, so I’m not counting it against the place star-wise; I can just say I was glad there was no one there but me and the employee at the time.

Kitamu is just all around amazing. The coffee is great, and they have their own Kitamu Blend roasted by Staufs I believe, which is also local. The tea they have is also very good and they have added a ton of different flavors in the last year. The owner, Mo is awesome, great to talk to, and always energetic and very passionate about Kitamu and flickartist, and very nice. The atmosphere is amazing, it is truly the coffee shop from Friends, you can go there and drink coffee and hang out and talk or you can take your electronic device and sit by yourself and read or work in private and I at least have never been distracted by the noise. Love this place and I go there several times a week.

The coffee is pretty good but Kitamu really has that small town coffee shop feel. The kind that fosters connections and a sense of community. The owner welcomes everyone in and treats them like family. It is a place to sit and talk with friends or sit on the overstuffed lounge style chairs with a good book. The little coffee shop is very active with supporting the local music scene and offers a safe haven for kids to have fun while keeping them safe and out of trouble, particularly on a Friday open mic night. The walls are adorned with local art work and homemade’s that are for sell, with some of the items going to fund a charity to help communities in Africa. Check it out, A great way to support small business owners and keep our dollars our community.

Visiting from CA and stopped at Kitamu to read and have a cappuccino. I was greeted as a friend when I came in for the first time. The drink was well made and quite good. There’s a stage for live music, and I wish I could have been there for that. Nice to find a home away from home.

Had a good macchiato and conversation with the owner of Kitamu. Stumbled upon it because I was having lunch nearby and needed WiFi. An example of why we should only have neighborhood coffee shops and no Starbucks.

My second time here. The customer service has been exceptional both times. I was greeted with a warm and genuine hello. They are cheerful and friendly. The place is decorated with neat art. It feels like a cool place to grab a drink and hangout for a little while. The first time I ordered a hot tea. It was good. My daughter ordered a blueberry muffin, which she enjoyed. The second time I ordered an iced chai latte which was a little too strong for my taste. But it won’t stop me from coming back.

Stopped in for a Mocha(under $ 5) at around 1 PM-pretty empty. Their Mocha tasted just like Starbucks(I think they brew Stauf’s?) A small case of baked goods off to the side including Flick Artist sugar cookies designed by Mary’s Cookies(I now regret not getting one.) Place is intimate and eclectic, with local art hanging and a stage in the back for bands and open mic nights. PLEASENOTE: when a popular band comes to play, THEPLACEISPACKED. There is, however, ample parking out front. Apparently they’re going to start Free Espresso Tastings on the last Sunday of each month. Not sure when that’s going to start though…

Coffee and the variety was fantastic, but as far as «hanging out», this place is definitely for the younger(highschool/undergrad) crowd. I took my friend here for coffee awhile back and we parked right infront of the place where there were kids on skate boards and bikes just hanging out outside the shop. The music in the store was good, and the atmosphere is okay, so if you can tolerate being around kids(I am one of those«get off my lawn!» type people haha!) then this place is for you. I guess I suggest just getting your coffee and going if you just want to try it out.

I came here at noon on a Tuesday hoping to get some writing done; the reviews were so good I couldn’t pass it up. Doors were unlocked, music on… The place was definitely open. I waited 5 minutes, looked around– not a soul in sight. I waited, called out, no one. Good thing I’m an honest person… Needless to say I’m not going back.

Well I love coffee. I also love local owners. I love local owners who are down the street from me in the«burgs» as well! I have been here multiple times, each time is awesome! My favorite time as with a Unilocal event, they owner came over said hello bla bla bla. I wasn’t staying long but he asked if I wanted something to drink… I said sure hot chocolate please. A few minutes later he came back with THEBEST hot chocolate ever! I mean EVER! Better yet. it was FREE! How can you beat that… you can’t!

I have been driving by this place for awhile and never went to it because I wasn’t a big fan of the old Coffeehouse that was there. I am very impressed with this place as the owner is easy to talk to and welcoming. I also love the fact that they serve STAUFs Coffee. I needed a caffeine pick me up that was cold on a 90 degree day and this place didn’t disappoint. I liked that a couple of guys came in and started playing guitars while hanging out. This place was relaxed, locally owned, and is a friendly coffee shop that will keep me from driving further away to Starbucks. The ambiance still isn’t great for studying but it is a nice place to meet a friend or grab a good cup of coffee in the morning. Also a teacher’s discount is always appreciated. The owner seems invested in community which makes it very nice and loves his coffee.

I’ve only been in here a couple times, but each time the people working behind the counter(is barista appropriate for guys? Especially if they’re not really snooty or that special flavor of Starbucks Disinterested?) were friendly, chatty, and happy to serve us. The Staufs coffee was good, and apparently the blueberry muffins are«nomtastic». All things considered, if you’re over in this part of town and looking for coffee, it certainly beats Starbucks or hitting one of the gas stations along Rome-Hilliard.
