I don’t come here often, despite it being right down the road from me. When I do, it’s usually for live bands with friends. The food is great here and I strongly recommend the pear and argula or apples and greens salads. They are amazing and fill you with just half of the portion. You will definitely have enough to take home with you for the next day. Beer selections are decent and the crowd noise is not too bad. Some think the bands are too loud in the bar area, but it really depends what band you go to see. I’ve seen some pretty loud ones there and then I’ve seen many who had the volume just perfect enough for me to be able to talk to friends at a comfortable level. They are remodeling the bar area«downstairs» as of this writing, so if you are looking to go, you might not get to see the old downstairs and they still may be in the building process.

just okay. while a couple of german staples the rest is either just normal bar food or classic, uninspiring get-it-anywhere food. wish it had an all-in, more authentic german vibe with more range of food and drinks. while probably lively in the summer with patio seating, the inside was a little boring as well. not in a hurry to get back, but might try it again in the summer. our waitress was very friendly and provided nice service.

Came here for Octoberfest. It was pretty authentic in it’s preparation and the beer was great. The crowd was large, but service was smooth. I would definitely want to go back and try the regular restaurant and menu.

Fantastic for large groups with their very fair pricing for stellar food, always with great presentation, happy bubbly staff & great recipes whose taste also keeps us coming back. From normal daily dining to celebrating/commemorating a life event, my family & family friends all come back. It’s been an area institution for a long time. Their generous bars, 1 inside &1 outdoor patio bar, are such great fun, notable for the outdoor one’s spacious & scenic ambiance. The property is very large providing generous views.

Another live review! We have enjoyed some 5-star German meals here on previous visits. I’m on my own tonight, and so opted for a dinner at the bar. Whenever we have dined here in the past, we always order the German specialties, so tonight was no different. I ordered saurbraten, which was accompanied by spaetzle and red cabbage. Delicious and satisfying. The spaetzle was sauteed in butter, and so there were plenty of crisp edges. The slices of meat were tender and flavorful, and the cabbage was thankfully not overly sweetened. The portions were ample, so I have a bit to go for lunch or supper tomorrow. I’m finishing up with a cup of coffee and wish I had room for dessert. Other folks at the bar have ordered burgers and wings. The wings, in particular, look very meaty! I understand that new owners took over this past January and that renovations are underway to the main pub. An outdoor patio bar was filling in for it over the summer. The gentleman at the bar also informs me that game dishes will be back on the menu from late November to early Spring. Looking forward to sampling them!

The environment was very nice. It was very cozy. The service was solid. Everything came out in a timely matter except the check. The waitress was very nice. For the menu, it was very strange to me. It had many different types of food. For some reason, I really enjoyed what had to be offered. The bread was very hard. I did not enjoy it. For an appetizer, we ordered the bratwurst which was a special entrée. We decided to get it as an appetizer. There were 2 brats with German potato salad and sauerkraut. I was expecting a little more from the brats. They were tasty, but I thought there would have been more to them. The German potato salad was great. It was my first time eating German potato salad and I was very pleased. For an entrée I ordered the short ribs($ 22). I also ate half an entrée of the Wienerschnitzel($ 20). The short ribs were great. The combination of the vegetables and mashed potatoes with the tender meat was outstanding. The portion was a good size as well. The Wienerschnitzel was just bland. I was just not a fan at all. The spätzle which are German dumplings were plain too. The whole dish was just blah to me. I was disappointed given this was my first time having Wienerschnitzel. Will I go back? I might because of the interesting choices on the menu.

Try the Oktoberfest menu. I had sauerbraten under the bier tent outside and it was the real deal. Fermented sauer, not vinegar sour. The beers were cold and excellent. Both cabbage dishes were good and the wurst had a good snap to the skin. Very happy.

Very good place. Be sure to go there for Oktoberfest. Sauerbraten was tender and the spaetzel was phenomenal.

The stuffed flounder was overwhelmingly salty and sitting in a pool of butter. Service was OK.

Service is good. Food is great. Love sitting outside. Clean. Nice atmosphere. New management. Pub under reconstruction. Plenty of parking. Sometimes a short wait for a table esp outside on a nice day. Live music some days outside. Tons of specials and daily deals. I like the shrimp tacos… The cod special… Crab cakes… Their guac and chips… Had their nutella week sampler special… Also the burgers. They have good beers on tap. The burger special on Tuesday is a regular burger, fries, beer wine or soft drink for 11.11 or pay the extra dollar and get a specialty burger so its 12.12. Good deal! They still have a couple german dishes. Quality quantity and price all match up. Def a good place ill be back soon and esp in October for Oktoberfest !

The five stars were aligned tonight! We eat at Pheasants Landing a few times a year and enjoy the restaurant, but tonight everything was just right. We sat outside(our first time) on a beautiful Sunday evening as the sun was setting on a perfect-10 weather day. Our server was very sweet and low key as we took forever to reviewing the differences in the outside menu. We enjoyed a drink and took longer than normal to place our order. We decide to «share» a salad, but was pleasantly surprised when it was presented as two portions which were both very generous. It was the arugula salad with pears, goat cheese and walnuts. It was excellent! For dinner, I ordered the honey-glazed salmon over rice with asparagus… again excellent! Grilled to perfection with sweet crusty edges. The tarragon sauce over rice was wonderful and the asparagus was tender and slightly undercooked… again, excellent! My wife ordered chicken Francaise and substituted mashed potatoes instead of the linguini. She too thoroughly enjoyed her meal and the brought home half of a very generous portion The overall experience was memorable… enough to give a deserved 5 stars!

First time back in a while. We are regulars for their October fest(in sept). Different menu but still had saurerbraten. We tried app of spaeztle and cheese which was cheddar but I think swiss would have been better for it. Reisiling(sweet) is a standard also and enjoyable Chicken francese(trying something our staple saurerbraten) was one of the better dishes of this I have had in a while, will add this to my food rotation. Braised short ribs were good also. Dessert was strudel and a lava cake both with cinnamon gelato. Both very nice. Overall service was friendly and fast… will be back.

Located in suburbia USA, this restaurant is one of the best places to dine and drink in Hillsborough, NJ. It seems to be an old large house converted into a venue. The bar: Located in the basement, your initial view of the bar will not impress you. It has a smell of a basement that has flooded several times but the smell if not very strong. The place is almost never crowded, even on a Friday night. They often have live from local bands which is really good. The bartenders and waiters are usually on point and do not go weak on their drinks. Since it is never packed, you almost never have to fight for a table, chair, or a drink at the bar. There is also one pool table in the corner near the bar if you are into pool. There are several TVs located above the bar, usually playing the most popular sport game going on. The restaurant: This portion of Pheasants is very large. My family and I often go there during Easter when they have their fixed special menus available. The food is always interesting as they offer rare meats such as duck or rabbit. It is a very wholesome meal. They do offer burgers and fries but this is more of a meat and potatoes kind of place. The venue: Very large space. My mother has her rotary meeting here and it is very spacious. It is a little dark and dingy but a few decorations help lighten the place up. The catered food is always yummy and filling. Pheasants often has events such as Octoberfest. My favorite is when they have events outside and you can sit on the lawn or the patio. It is such a big venue I could see people having one of their graduation or similar parties there. T I give it 4 stars only because there is definitely some updating to be done and it would be nice if they catered to the younger crowd in Hillsborough. Not many restaurants cater to the 20s-30s and it would be nice to start seeing one of the bars become welcoming, hip, and fun. There are not many places to meet people in the age bracket in boro. The owner is usually on site and is very nice and friendly.

We met friends in the pub for an early Saturday evening dinner, before the music started. None of us had been here in years and thought to give it a try. Tables are well spaced but the place is worn. At 7PM, on the quiet side, choice of seating. Ordered some beers and wine and looked over the menu. Service though friendly was off. When the fresh salads arrived, we had to remind the server and runner we did not have any utensils. You have to ask for water. My wife and a friend shared the house made dumplings with mushrooms, sage and gruyère appetizer. I snuck a fork in, very tasty. The winners on the entrees are the Caesar salad with blackened salmon; Pacific cod with rice; medium burger. I went for the Wiener Schnitzel on a pretzel roll with gravy, listed as sauté’d breaded veal cutlets. Unfortunately they were ground veal patties. Tasty but below expectations. The band came in and played Classic Rock at 9PM. At that point you could not hear yourself think much less talk. The place is too small and too low ceiling for the volume. Felt the seating rattle. You know it had to be loud, when people are taking out their hearing devices.

Prior to January 1, 2015 and the new owners I would get the Bison hanger steak and ask for it medium-well. Every time, my preference was ignored and my steak was cooked medium to medium rare but I never complained. Now they don’t carry bison anymore but they have Angus and apparently still think they know what’s best for you, and don’t follow the customers preference.

This is our first visit back since they announced a new chef. I had been dreaming of the wings all day. What a disappointment! The size of the wings seemed anemic. The coating was tasteless and dry. We won’t be ordering them again and it used to be my favorite thing on the menu. The people here are as awesome as ever!

My husband and I just tried this place tonight. It looked nice; outdoor seating, nice evening. Has decent ratings here on Unilocal. First off, the tables and chairs here are flimsy plastic. Like they bought them at Walmart. Thin, cheap forks and knives, plastic baskets were used for many dishes. Now the food. My husband got an arugula salad with pears, goat cheese, walnuts and chicken. It was the size of a side salad. The single piece of goat cheese was the size of a grape. My fish and chips were passable, if a little greasy. Soggy fries. And, unfortunately, the ketchup was not Heinz as presented. The bottle was definitely old and refilled with an off brand. On the bright side, our server was very friendly and efficient. We won’t be back.

This is a large place with a bit of an odd lay-out. They seem to offer something for everyone, a pleasant looking outdoor patio w/live music, a pub-like restaurant, a cellar bar, and a catering room(or two). I can only speak to my recent experience in their catering room. The room is medium sized and seemed to be able to accomodate approx 100. We were 6 tables of 8 and we were lost in the room. Additionaly someone set up the speaker’s lecturn far from the tables so it was even less personal. The problem wasnt the room. It was the service. The service was rushed and unprofessional. Servers were clearing plates before people had finished eating and they did not appear to listen to the pace of the retirement party. The coffee service was serve your own and the desserts were plopped on the table as an after thought. They changed bartenders at least once for a retirement party on a cash bar that didnt seem to be too challenging. An elderly man asked for a lime for his bottle of Corona, but after searching for several minutes in the back, the server returned and apologized for not having a single lime in the entire restaurant. I hope the rest of the place offers better service. Even if the food was good, and it was just ehhh, I’ve worked in the catering industry and the folks working this room didnt do a good job.

Outstanding restaurant. Have been here many times and have never been disappointed. It’s the only place around that serves schnitzel and spätzle. They have an exceptional menu full of unique dishes and incorporate many seasonal items. If you’re looking to try something different, consider something from their game menu. I’ve enjoyed the duck and bison. Hoping to try the ostrich sometime soon. Also, the desserts are out of this world if you have room. I recommend the lava cake and any of their sundaes. A great place for special occasions!

This review is for the Underground Bar. Excellent dirty Martini’s made by a friendly & attentive bartender named Tom. Specials like the frogs legs or any of the game specials are the the things to try here. They also make a decent burger @ onion rings. I love the escargot. Check it out!
