We were so pleased by our first trip to Lowcountry Backyard. Despite arriving at 4:45(only 15 minutes after they opened) we still had a 35 minute wait. However our kids(6,4) loved the backyard games and would have easily played for longer. Once seated, we were very impressed by the food. The starters — clam chowder and crab dip — were great. Shrimp and mushroom cobbler was delicious with a wonderful mushroom flavor. Shrimp purvaloo was also fantastic with a yummy BBQ sauce really making the meal. Kids Mac and cheese and yogurt parfait were perfect for our kiddos. Key lime pie was also a standout. And we loved the feel of all drinks served in mason jars — like a great backyard BBQ. We will definitely be back!

After a disappointing first meal in Hilton head we came to low country back yard for brunch. It was perfect. Beautiful ambiance, amazing food. Shrimp and grits were phenomenal. So good that I didn’t even want to try my fiancés bananas foster French toast that he said as excellent. Wish we had more time to come again for dinner.

Delcious food and great atmosphere. My husband and I split the grouper Reuben and I got their version of jambalaya… incredible! Moonshine was so delicious and interesting as well. Definitely made you feel like you were a local.

Came here for the first time for dinner tonight! The good and drinks were amazing! We started off with the fried green tomatoes appetizer which was delicious. Then me and my dinner party ordered our food. The only complaint I had was it took forever to get our food. The table next to us who was seated after is got their food first which I thought was inappropriate. Other than that the food was great. I got the shrimp and wild mushroom cobbler with Mac and cheese. It was just enough for one person! The flavors melded excellent! My friend got the fried green tomato BLT with turnip greens which turned out far better than I expected! Over all I would love to eat here again just would like to go when it’s not as busy!

Nice place. Saw they had shrimp and grits and picked up an order to go. Shrimp were nicely flavored but one of them wasn’t peeled at all. Grits were lackluster. They were a tad too creamy for my taste but the whole dish needed more seasoning. The shrimp shell needed something else entirely.

For our last night on Hilton Head, we decided to check out the highly reviewed Lowcountry Backyard. Although it is located in a little shopping plaza, if you sit in the actual backyard, you are transported to an altogether different place! From the stage to the low hanging trees to the swinging bench, it is a lovely and magical feeling place. Having two littles in tow, we arrived on the earlier side(5ish), and had no wait at all — but by the time we left around 6:30, there was a very long wait. So plan accordingly! Ok, the food. Let me start off by saying… I don’t like shrimp and grits. I just don’t. I never have, and I thought I never would… until I tried them at Lowcountry Backyard. I was so pleasantly surprised by both the taste and texture! We were a little afraid that one of the shrimp was bad and would make my hubby sick(he said it tasted really«off») but thankfully no sickness occurred. Fish tacos were also quite yummy, although I felt that the toppings(corn, etc) were a little sparse. But overall great flavor. We(my 3 year old especially) really appreciated the live music, too! Lots of fun for the whole family. This is a great place to check out if you find yourself in need of dinner on Hilton Head.

Waited 45 minutes, so I thought it must be good. The atmosphere(backyard) was enjoyable, live music great, and our waiter was attentive, but when the food came, we were very, very disappointed. Ordered the grouper rueben and it was probably the worst sandwich I’ve had in a long time! The fish was way over-spiced and over-cooked, and there was hardly any sauce or slaw on it. Come on chef… you can do better than that! There are just too many restaurants in the area to give this one another try. We won’t be back. If you do go, I hope your experience is better than ours.

We discovered A Low Country last year and loved it so much we came back with the family this year. The food is very good and the outdoor seating is wonderful for the kids. Our server Mary did a great job and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Very unique restaurant in terms of decoration — it feels like you are sitting in the backyard of someone who has a knack for collecting cute deco. We enjoyed it, it definitely had character! We were starving when we came in and had the baked mac as an appetizer(don’t judge) — they were great, no velveeta nonsense going on there! We then had the shrimp and grits and the shrimp and mushroom cobbler. The shrimp and grits were good, but not as amazing as other reviews have suggested. The shrimp and mushroom cobbler on the other hand was fantastic!!! Very flavorful! The absolute winner was the homemade banana pudding though. Our waitress had forgotten to bring it(maybe a 10 minute«delay,» which we barely noticed because, at this point, we definitely weren’t starving anymore), and she gave it to us for free! Sweet gesture and such a tasty treat! On a less important side note, the musician who was playing was good about not being too loud, which was nice. Unfortunately, he struggled with a good few notes, which made the entertainment… well, not ideal… but it wasn’t a big deal since we could still carry on a conversation comfortably.

The bischick(chicken and biscuits) was disappointing — very salty, lost all crisp of the breading and fluff of the biscuit from the thick layer of gravy. Maybe this is how it’s done, but I hoped for better. Shrimp and mushroom cobbler was pretty good(also salty). Others said the meatloaf sandwich was meh and the fish tacos were not flavourful(but they looked great). Another person had the bischick and enjoyed it despite the saltiness. I liked the cornbread — sweet, light, and fine grained. The mac and cheese was a bit too oily. Service was pretty good. Attentive and a good number of staff to check on us. Came to about $ 30 for two people plus tip.

Decided to check it out for lunch on a Friday. We sat outside in the covered courtyard. The weather was very nice and the atmosphere was eclectic and cool. My wife had a great salad and I opted for the Lowcountry Burger. Both meals very good and my wife had a moonarita(made with moonshine) that she raved about. The service was as expected and we enjoyed our meal enough that we would definitely go back.

We had takeout from here. The hostess were great and friendly as we waited on our orders. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. We were also told there’s a live band on select nights in April when we visited. Our food was good. My family all had burgers and I had shrimp and grits. My shrimp and grits were very good. My daughter thought her burger was overcooked and didn’t like the macaroni salad, but my husband liked it. So I don’t suggest macaroni salad for kuds, even though it’s on the kids menu. I also had the banana pudding which they raved about. But I thought it was ok. My daughter really liked it though.

This place is now my favorite restaurant. While the wait was long we were able to keep tabs on it because they use a web-based table waiting app so we could tell how long we had been waiting and how many people were in front of us. Once we were seated, the kids(ages 7 and 5) played the«backyard» games like Jenga or a hoop on a string. Lots of other kids made it fun for them. The food was insane — the shrimp and grits was amazing, and my wife’s salmon on coconut rice was delicious. The kids meals were scarfed down in no time. The backyard feel was warm and comfortable, and the live band was amazing! I would hesitate on the desserts next time — we got the key lime pie(yummy) the banana pudding(just ok) and the chocolate cake(kids devoured it but I don’t know if it was any good). They added an additional $ 20+ to the bill and going to the place across the street would have been probably tastier and cheaper. My only real regret is that I don’t live closer!!!

Food here is great. Shrimp and grits is a popular dish and it didn’t disappoint. Barbecue chicken sandwich was just ok. The fish tacos were good but messy. No part of them stayed together when trying to eat them. We finished off the dinner with some banana bread pudding and it was excellent. The reason I gave a four instead of five was because our food took unusually long. Our server said it was because they basically have one kitchen serving three dining areas and they were backed up. We sat outside and it was a cool evening but they had several gas warmers going. Also outside is a few games you can play while you wait.

Love love love the ambience. Kinda reminds me of that bar inTrue Blood without the vampires lol. We didnt sit out in the backyard because it was rainy. There was an old gas station pump on the inside which was kinda cool. To eat, my husband had the salmon while i had the encrusted trout which were specials. For sides, we had mac n cheese, macaroni salad and whipped potatoes. To drink, I had the peach drink with«moonshine”(carolina peach cosmo) and husband had the sweet tea. Food was ok and portions were large.
