We’ve been in HH for the last week and have been looking up the best restaurants to eat at. This place is pretty new and had good reviews so we checked it out. I got the chicken Blt and it was huge! Got so many Rosemary truffle fries and they were delicious minus being a bit hard. My friend made his own burger and said it was delicious. The waitress was a little snooty but the service wasn’t bad. Would return.

Beef burgers were on point, service was excellent, fries were tasty but wouldn’t call them truffle fries since I could barely taste the truffle, the breading on the onion rings was too thick for my taste but it was very crunchy, live music was really good, I’d come back

Very good burger and onion rings! Nice atmosphere outside with the lights and the music, too. The French fries were very good too. Definitely would recommend to anyone coming to HHI.

My wife and I stumbled upon this place, after we went to the movies, located next door, we didn’t have food, but I found the place to be really cool looking. The walls were covered in old records. They have an outdoor bar, with a fire pit, and a band. We decided to sit for a while, enjoy some music and beers. Definitely look forward to trying this again.

Overpriced burgers and the cheese fries were like sticks and hard. Our«spiked» milkshakes seemed to be missing the spike! Definitely not worth the price of admission.

Had the dirty south burger! Best burger I ever had. Kids work for another burger franchise, and they loved their burgers too! Sweet potato fries were awesome too! Lastly the service was AMAZING!!! Definitely will be back within the week!

Had a very lovely dinner here on night on our Hilton Head trip. The staff was very attentive and comped us the juices for our daughter(two juices… because she spilled the first one, whoops!). Charbar’s burgers are great. I made my own and was really pleased with how it was prepared. My only regret was getting a focaccia bun instead of something else(like a brioche or pretzel bun).the focaccia just really fell apart and was too dry. But overall good flavor. I was really excited for a milkshake but it was a little disappointing. Should’ve stuck to a burger & beer combo instead. Totally forget what beer my husband ordered(something local?) but it was really good! We were also impressed with the live music! My toddler was really excited to listen and dance along with his tunes. Not sure how often that happens, but it was a really nice addition to the meal.

I walked into Charbar and waited three minutes before greeted by the staff. Finally a waitress walked by(either chewing gum or eating food) and told us to seat ourselves. It took longer than expected to be greeted by our waitress. Our waitress proceed to take another tables order, who seated after us before taking our order. We asked to have a salad and appetizer out first, only to have all of our food out at the same time. Multiple tables who were seated after received their food first. When our food finally cam it was cold and the salad was very disappointing. The vegetables were far from fresh. The burger was the main item on their menu and it they failed to cook it to the requested temperature. The restaurant did end up comping our meal but the experience was very disappointing. Would not return.

They claim to have a «Happy Hour.» They have no discounted food which is traditionally the case. The drinks are $ 1 off which defeats the purpose. I won’t be back.

Burger was well prepared and exactly how I ordered. Staff extra attentive and friendly. Clean and welcoming interior. Nice patio outside when weather is nicer(not this time). Unique burgers. Sweet potato tater tots fantastic. Live music playing which was really nice. Job well done!

Best burger on the island! I had pimento, LTOPickle on sourdough bun and it was amazing. Hand cut fries are a must. Interactive iPad-like devices on the tables. One for each kid! Kept our kids occupied with games so we could talk as adults.

This place has become a regular destination for us every year. When we got here around 6:30 the place was empty. By the time we left it had filled up. According to our waitress it can be really slow on a weeknight in December. My wife and I each got a «spiked» milkshake. She got a grasshopper. I got a double chocolate. Both were yummy. We shared a cheese fries appetizer which was also really good. For dinner I got the Champ burger. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked exactly right. I got onion rings with my burger and they were both delicious. My wife got the shrimp burger on a lettuce roll. They actually cut a wedge of lettuce in the shape of a bun and put the burger in it. My wife said it was delicious. All in all a great meal.

I’ve been here twice which would indicate that the first visit was — at least — good enough to warrant a second visit. However, there will not be a third. Our last experience put the med in mediocre… because it made us sick — not hospital sick, but lose the rest of the night sick. The first visit, we got appetizers and milk shakes; both were really quite good. This most recent visit, we got burgers and milk shakes. I’ll start with the shakes. We ordered double chocolate spiked with Absolut. Usually I can’t taste the alcohol at all in spiked milk shakes, but this was the opposite. Cheap alcohol taste with a light, creamy flavor that barely had a chocolate aftertaste. Total loss. The burgers were worse. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp burger. It was a nightmare of greasy, overcooked crap. She couldn’t finish it. At least it was complimented by equally greasy onion rings. Gross. I created my own burger — beef with Swiss cheese, mushrooms, lettuce on a pretzel bun. I ordered it medium rare. It came extra well done. Furthermore, they’re clueless about how to construct a burger. The tasteless Swiss cheese was on top with lettuce on top of that, but rather than letting the mushrooms meld with the cheese, they were slapped on the bottom so the patty slid all over the place. The only redeeming item was the truffle fries. They were pretty good. The service, on the other hand, sucked. We walked into a dining room that was devoid of servers and no one even greeted us for close to 10 minutes. Then we were told it would be a 10 – 15 minute wait even though there were open tables. Worse yet, when a group of 4 came in after us, they were seated immediately. I asked the manager — who was seating people — why they were seated ahead of us and he hastily sat us at another table, claiming they were ready about the same time. Not a good start at all. The waitress was totally lackluster too. She had a smile, but could care less about service and only performed the most perfunctory and routine tasks. We’re not going back to the Charbar. Despite the claims of «award winning burgers» and«best burger on the island,» I would have preferred Five Guys to this nonsense. Oh yeah, and 2 burgers and 2 spiked milk shakes set me back close to $ 50(a little over including tip). What a joke.

We placed a to-go order. I had the Perfect Portabella sandwich with onion rings. It was delicious!!! I love that they have a few vegetarian options as well gluten-free bread. The prices were also very reasonable. I would definitely return!

The reviews here are mixed, and I was probably a little too swayed by the four star overall rating, so although I would probably give a 2.5 and may even be inclined to round up to 3, by the law of averages I need to bring this overall star rating down a notch. We decided on Charbar for a late lunch are being at the beach all morning and afternoon. We probably got there around 2:30 or 3. It was very empty inside and almost looked closed, but it was past lunch on a weekday. The hostess took a minute to greet us and it took a little longer than I thought it should have to get menus. The menu looks great, which is part of the reason I suggested we eat here in the first place. They are mostly burgers but they cover almost every burger category with traditional beef, as well as chicken, shrimp, and veggie options. They have a few signature burgers and you also have the option to make your own from many different permutations of ingredients. We all placed drink orders. The have a full bar and a list of specialty drinks but the waitress seemed very unsure of what they actually had behind the bar in terms of brands and flavors, or even what beers they had on tap. I get that maybe she’s a lunch waitress and doesn’t serve many drinks, but at the same time, it’s a vacation destination, people must be drinking on lunch. The drinks took a very long time to come out from the bar, especially considering we were one of two tables at the time. I ordered the wild tea mojito which was made with sweet tea vodka and rosemary. It tasted good and it was a fun twist on a mojito, but it was a pretty small glass, and the presentation was very meh for the price. We also started out with an order of cheese fries, which I can say were pretty good, and the pimento cheese definitely adds a nice touch. For the meal we all ordered burgers, but had a good spread of the menu. I ordered the shrimp burger. It was kind of a mess. Everything I love was there: shrimp, pimento cheese, arugula, tomato, pickled onions, aioli, but it really just didn’t have much flavor. The main issue was that it was served on a foccacia bread that fell apart as soon as as I picked up the burger, so eating it with a fork it was really just a pile of shrimp and foccacia mush. On top of that I found shrimp shell in my burger. We also had a veggie burger(which looked equally a mess) and a beef burger at the table, and those who ordered them seemed a little more pleased than I was. Each burger comes with a side and they have a decent selection. I went with the rosemary garlic fries while other in the group got onion rings and sweet potato tots. The sides were decent, and the tots and onions rings were served with a spicy mayo like dipping sauce. My only issue here was the breading on the onion rings was kind of not attached to them. Overall the meal dragged. Although our waitress was friendly, the service was just weird and not all that attentive considering the restaurant was empty. Maybe the empty restaurant atmosphere hurt my overall opinion as well. The food has so much potential but for me my dish just completely missed the mark. Maybe it’s an off day, but looking at other reviews they are having a few too many off days here. They do have a nice patio area with lights that would be cute to sit at in the evening, but I am sure there are better burgers in the area.

Nice ambiance. Cool old lp’s on the wall. I had the«dirty south» burger and it was amazing. Great range of flavors along with a perfectly cooked medium-rare burger. The truffle fries were good but a little dry. House made ketchup is fantastic. My wife had the southwest chicken salad, it was very good! The kids were happy with their meals and loved the electronic menus on iPad-like devices. Overall, very nice place. Good service and good food. We’ll visit again.

Luckily in St. Louis we have Award Winning hamburgers. I know a good burger. This was not. The burgers were not cooked to requested temperatures. Two out of four burgers where cut in half and crumbling on the buns when delivered. Provolone cheese was not melted on one burger. Onion rings are a mess. They crumbled before one could even take a bite out of them. Skip the shake, if a shake can be warm, that is what we were served. The service was far lower than 1.0. Everyone working«appears» busy. However, I am guessing they have never heard of working smarter and not harder. The manager never stopped moving, but he was not doing anything useful. The hostess turned several walk up groups away — maybe the manager should have taken control. There were empty tables inside and outdside the whole time I was at Charbar. Why on Earth would you send paying customers off with no hope of them returning?(No– they did not leave names or phone number– they left!) The night I visited the managers parents were eating next to us. We overheard the manager tell them the kitchen was running thirty minutes behind on orders. Okay– YOU have a situation with YOUR kitchen staff. Go around and give your tables a heads up, take it like a man and tell the paying customers something is going on. You may even have more adult drink orders if you were HONEST. Instead the mood of the majority of tables turned ugly. It is not a good look when you have kids asleep at high boy tables because the wait for food is THAT slow! Maybe some damage control and bring each table a free appetizer or basket of fries… anything… something… Not the best burger… not worth a wait.

I’m giving 4 stars because I haven’t had much luck with decent food here on the HH Island. It was good, but freakin salty, the rosemary fries, Good but salty as heeeell!!! Make reservations, because even though it doesn’t look busy, you wait. and wait and wait. Then you order, and wait and wait… etc… ok so I gotta go home and have a stroke from all the salt… but all in all it was good and I would come again.
