Great restaurant. Awesome staff. Would highly recommend checking his place out. Our food came out very quickly and the service was top notch.

First impression, glass is not clean so I had to ask a new one. I ordered sushi and sashimi. Sashimi tastes ok, not super fresh but not bad. The cut was uneven but I might be too picky. The killer is I found a piece of cotton on top of the fish — from their towel? Service is mediocre albeit there aren’t many customers during lunch. The waiters never filled our glass even though it is empty. Will not go back.

Cool atmosphere. Definitely not the best Japanese food I’ve had, but I liked some items. Surf n Turf roll — This was my favorite. A twist on traditional surf and turf with spicy tuna in the roll and seared ribeye on top. Very tasty! Lots of sauces on top. Fried rice — Not really what I would consider traditional fried rice. It seemed like just rice with soy sauce. There aren’t additional ingredients like onions, veggies, eggs or anything else. Filet /Chicken Teriyaki — The meat was really good, especially if you like tender meat. I’d say medium on the filet is more like a normal medium rare. The teriyaki sauce is very light so ask for extra if you like to taste the teriyaki more. Good portion too. Tempura — Really great light batter. The combo came with 1 piece of shrimp, 1 zucchini, 1 onion and 1 sweet potato slice. Ramen — Broth is pretty salty, liked the miso broth a lot better.

We came in here thinking it was another local sushi place, but decided to sit at the bar and ordered two sushi rolls anyway. They were brought to us on two big plain white dinner plates with a tad of the wasabi and ginger, and placed quite haphazardly. Certainly not appealing. The filling was skimpy. The nori seemed a bit chewy too. Decided not to stay for more.

Food was ok — about average but upon arrival there was a table of 4 drunks there one of which fell straight to the floor when he tried to walk. He left but the others were loud and profane and obnoxious. We hear it’s a common problem in Hilton Head

Probably excellent for people who have not been in Japan. The sushi did not have enough vinegar in the rice(this is a common fault in most sushi in the USA). The seafood was prepared perfectly and Tempura was OK. The batter could have been lighter but better than most USA restaurants. Lots of food. The ambience and service was excellent.

WOW! The sushi at Hinoki is superb. The fish is so fresh it’s like they catch it right after you order it. We asked the chef to make us rolls of his choice because we couldn’t decide. They were all so incredible. We also had the calamari seafood salad which was amazing. In addition, we tried Uni(sea urchin) and Toro(tuna belly). both were so fresh and delicious also. So if you’re in the mood for causal, low key Japanese restaurant, Hinoki is your place!

Respectable sushi restaurant on Hilton Head island. Seems like a lot of the locals come here. The sushi chefs were quite entertaining and carried on great conversations for all those sitting at the sushi bar. We enjoyed the seaweed salad and the assortment of rolls we had, which included the Wizard Roll, the Hilton Head Roll, the Hiro Roll, and the Yellowtail Hamachi. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful.

This is the best Sushi. I recommend the tuna carpaccio, the yellowtail carpaccio and the Dinosaur Egg. The salads are also amazing. I could eat there every day.

I’ll make this short and sweet. Sushi here is amazing and fresh but the slow service is unforgivable. We came on a Thursday, around 7pm. There must have been 4 other small parties in the place, very empty. There were 4 of us and a child. We ordered a kid meal and 7 rolls. The kids meal came out right away but we waited almost an hour for our sushi. Not once did our server appear to give us apologies or hope that the food would be out shortly. Delicious if you’re willing to wait, but not the type of experience I like on vacation.

Excellent sushi. We are a fan of tuna, and this place had a lot of it different ways. Highly suggested.

We came to Hinoki for dinner since Kurama was jammed packed. We were hoping to experience something similar to Kurama. Unfortunately we did not. Hinoki does not do Hibachi style seating, but they do offer Hibachi style entrées. We ordered Hibachi and received Miso soup which was bland as well as the entrées, and Salad with Ginger Dressing which tasted more like French Dressing with cracked pepper. The price we paid was high for the quality of the food we received. I will be sticking with Kurama for my Japanese food on Hilton Head.

Rating this 4 stars for value and service. Lots of food and good. The décor is clean and modern Japanese. We had two habachi dinners with soup, salad tempura shrimp and vegetables chicken and shrimp another had chicken and steak. The chicken had a light cripy coating. People around us seemed to enjoy the Sushi. If you are in the mood go and enjoy!

My husband and I love sushi so we were looking forward to Hinoki based on all of the fantastic Unilocal reviews! The décor, service, and seaweed salad that we started with were all great. Unfortunately that is the only dish we enjoyed. The Wizard Roll(shrimp tempura, avocado, and eel sauce) had mayo inside the roll for some reason, which made the tempura soggy and completely lacking in crunch or texture– skip this one! The deluxe sushi platter was also disappointing. The fish tasted OK, but the rice was flavorless and there was SO much wasabi that it overwhelmed everything. 2 stars for the service and the seaweed salad, but –3 stars for having to go back to the hotel and order(delicious) room service after spending $ 46 on bad sushi.

I love it here. We sit at the sushi bar and the service is excellent. The chefs are true Japanese sushi chefs. Be sure to go outside your comfort zone and try one of their specials. The tuna 3 ways is a must if you’ve never been here. Hinoki is an exceptional value. We can’t wait to go back!

Hinoki is one of my FAVORITE things about visiting Hilton Head. The sushi is delicious and the service is first-class. I have had the opportunity to visit many top tier sushi locations in CA, HI and Japan and taste and preparation of the sushi and sashimi served at Hiinoki rivals some of the very best! Parking is easy and reservations are encouraged for weekend summer nights. Décor is what you would expect at a sushi bar – Japanese inspired/bamboo. Very excited for our next trip to Hilton Head and our next visit to Hinoki!

Came here upon the recommendation of a friend. We made reservations and were sat quickly in the pit. Too cute! Decorations were authentic with all the bamboo. We ordered the Wizard, Shrimp Tempura, Veggie, and Mikkey rolls. Yum! Quite possibly the best sushi ever and a great way to kick off our weekend in HHI
