I am updating my review because I want to make it clear how much I miss this place. Filippo’s was my favorite shop in Hoboken until that b*tch Sandy hit. It was the place I went to after work and the place I recommended all my friends try if they want the best damn buff chick slice they’d ever had. I am saddened every time I walk by the empty space where it used to be. Come back!!!

Honestly, I’m thinking of moving out of Hoboken if this place does not reopen. This makes me sad and I don’t want any other pizza than this pizza. I have taken so many of my friends from Philly and other areas to show them the BEST place for pizza in Hoboken. I’m not sure the extent of the damages from Hurricane Sandy, but I’m willing to start a fund to get this place up an running again. I lost the Hoboken Farm about a year an a half ago to a tragic fire, and I cannot endure another loss to a place that is so important to me in Hoboken. Rebuild guys, Please!!! You are by far the best pizza place this side of the Hudson. Nothing compares to you.

I learned that everyone in Hoboken has their favorite pizza places(given that you can find a pizza restaurant in every corner). My vote goes to Filippo’s Pizzeria. I love the thin crispy crust and the perfect amount of cheese on top. They don’t overload your pizza with the toppings so you can taste the sauce and cheese. One of my favorite is the pepp/green onion/onion/mushroom pizza. For 20 bucks, you can get a large pie. I tried the buffalo chicken pizza and it’s something you have to try. The place is tiny and has no tables. Take out is the way to go here. Don’t forget that it’s cash only! They do have an ATM inside.

Great place! Come here regularly. Big fan of the pizza. Subs are fantastic. You can’t really go wrong here. Very good place to swing by and grab a couple slices or a sub. It’s pretty tiny, so not much room to really sit and eat anything. Most of the time nobody’s sitting in there, though, so you’re okay given the case. Definitely recommended.

Before I even tasted the food I knew this place would be good. Why? Two reasons” 1. They sell Manhattan Special — if you don’t know what that is, just stop what you are doing and go find yourself one 2. They have homemade rice balls — made the Sicilian way, the ONLY acceptable way to eat a rice ball(I know, my dad brought this recipe with him from Sicily). Fried and filled with meat, peas, sauce and cheese. BF and I ordered a large pie — half pepperoni and sausage for him, ½ ricotta for me. The smell was intoxicating, The crust was the perfect thickness, and the ricotta was rich and thick — not the runny low fat cheap stuff that most people add on. The sauce tasted homemade not the stuff that comes in a metal industrial sized can. BF enjoyed his half and the sausage looked like real meat. It is cash only.

My pizza place of choice in Hoboken for years. Not too heavy on the cheese, super-tasty sauce, and *real* ingredients — you order pepperoni, you ain’t getting some cheap supermarket brand, no sir. The crust can be a little bland — I think Grimaldi’s is tastier — but in terms of all-around yum, no place in Hoboken beats these guys. I’ve never been disappointed by a pasta dish, either. They use fresh, genuine ingredients(e.g., real clams, not from a can), their sauces are top-notch, and their portions are very generous for the price. And, hey, they fill your cannoli when you order it, rather than leaving them sitting around all day making the dough soggy. It’s a little thing, I know, but to me it’s a sign of how much they care about the quality of their food. Only order delivery or pickup from this place, though. It’s tiny and cramped(just a few stools for seating), and gets really hot during warmer months.

Very good. My favorite non-coal-brick oven pizza in town. An excellent thin crust, chewy crust, good flavor. I’m a fan of this place when you want to pick up a quick slice or two without going through the whole sit down process of Girmaldi’s. Give this place a try.

Alright, Hoboken probably has 10 – 15 solid pizzarias. If this was Pennsylvania Filippo’s would be king of the castle, but you gotta put them in perspective. Hell, you can’t seem to really go wrong in Hoboken if you’re looking for good pizza. Here’s what I’ll say about this place: Why you’d order from here vs. the countless other places in Hoboken: — Specialty Pizzas: Their Chicken Parm, Margerita, Buffalo Chicken, and various other specialty pies are top-notch. You can stack that type of pie against any other pizza joint and Filippos will probably come on top in terms of taste. Why you’d Avoid: — $ 4 a slice is pretty damn expensive and the pies aren’t exactly discounted. — You’re really just looking for a plain pie. Stick with another place. Haven’t tried delivery but I may consider them as a change-up to the normal pizza pies I typically would get. Also, they’re cash only so don’t come in expecting to pay with plastic.

Love, Love, Love the pizza here. You will not be disappointed with your order. Anything from plain cheese to Chicken Parm is amazing.

Pillars of any take-out establishment: Delivery — Super quick and friendly Service — Awesome… They were out of cheesecake we ordered online but offered to substitute for tiramisu or $ 3 back(cash) Food — EXCELLENT. Eggplant parm entrée is HUGE and easily serves two(*tip: the extra dollar for fresh mozzarella is worth it); zucchini sticks kick butt too… usually soggy when ordered on delivery, these were not at all While Hoboken is full of many very good(and sometimes very bad) Italian take-out joints, I’d confidently recommend Fillippo’s on First to anyone, anytime.

I’m not a big fan of pizza but after having left Hoboken in April of 2010& having made an effort to go to Filippo’s on one of my NYC trips, I have to recognize this is one of the few things in New Jersey, I love. Excellent pizza. Best I’ve had anywhere — get the buffalo chicken. The downside is once you have this, you’ll be comparing every other slice to it and will probably not find anything better. It is worth a lifetime of future disappointment.

This is THEBEST pizza in Hoboken HANDSDOWN! I’ve been going to this place for years and their pizza is consistently delicious. I’d even go as far to say that they have better pizza than anywhere in NYC! The thing that makes this pizza great is the sauce… its homemade and has a unique fresh sweet taste to it that is to die for. The pizza isn’t very oily and seems a lot healthier and fresher than most pizzas. The crust is crispy and delicious. The family who owns the place is really nice and friendly. I just LOVE filippo’s on first! No other pizza can compare!

I’ve had a margherita pie and a Sicilian slice from Filippo’s, and both were excellent. However, the real reason that motivates me to write a review is the pasta fagioli, which is Wednesday’s soup of the day. I love this soup so much that I look forward to it every week. The large is $ 4 and, with the complimentary Italian bread, it makes a great meal. It has the perfect ratio of pasta to beans, and it isn’t too watery. I also like that they sprinkle Parmesan cheese and drizzle just a little bit of olive oil in the soup before sealing the cardboard take-out container. I’ve had some of the other soups, but none really compares to the pasta fagioli. If you’re ever in Downtown Hoboken on a Wednesday afternoon, I highly recommend it.

My favorite pizza place in Hoboken hands down. The sauce, the cheese, the crust… everything is perfect. My only complaint is the size of their pie pales in comparison to most places in Hoboken. A medium is more like a small and a large more like a medium. That said, I still eat here all the time and have yet to taste a better slice in the city.

Pizza: There’s definitely something different about theirs. The sauce is really good and they don’t glop on the cheese, which I appreciate. However… they are so ridiculously cheap on the sauce so it’s a pretty dry pie. I’d order from them more often if they used a lot more sauce. Sandwiches: *Good bread(although the ratio of inside bread to crust is too high) *Poor functionality(yeah, you know, if it’s easy or hard to pick up and eat)…on the sandwich I got(sorrentino) they piled the ingredients vertically, not horizontally, so whatever is on the outside(bruschetta) falls right out when you pick it up *They put balsamic vinegar on their sandwiches but there’s no mention of it on the menu. For 99% of you that’s not a bad thing but balsamic is my kryptonite. *Seriously if I could put fox news, cold weather, corrupt city/government workers, people who don’t signal before changing lanes, abusive people, corporate yes-men and balsamic vinegar all in one room and cement the door shut, never to be seen or heard from again, I’d be a happy man Customer Service: The owner is a very nice guy and when I mentioned my balsamic issue he promptly had a new sandwich delivered free of charge, no questions asked. I can’t say enough about his professionalism.

Oh how I love you Filippo’s — still my favorite pizza joint, always there to fill my craving of oh so good pizza. I have a tried a few more slices since my last review, among them are: Chicken Parm slice Margherita Grandma’s slice but still have love for what I call the classics: My other fav slices from Filippo’s aside from the plain slice: Buffalo Chicken Peppers and Onions Pepperoni, Onions, Peppers Meat Sauce Awesome service, quick, and courteous. Even have done the delivery a couple times now — still on time in a snow storm this past winter!

Order a slice of pepperoni and wow… good stuff… need something like this in LA.seriously.slice of good pizza… This place is small, I mean small, like a counter with 5 chairs, but, hey the pizza is great… they have a full menu so one day I may try something else…

Excellent pizza with great topping selection. The guys are great on the phone and make take out or delivery orders very easy to place, but delivery times are a bit shoddy to uptown Hoboken(45-an hour rather than 30 – 45 min). If you live on the other side of town, as I do, just turn your oven on a half hour after you order for one of the best slices in town.

One of the better pizzerias in Hoboken, in my opinion, the Martguerita pizza here is delicious. Large pies, decent thin-crust, although by the time they deliver it, it’s usually requires some post-heating in your oven during the winter, in the summer it’s okay as-in. Not fresh mushrooms, and sometimes light on the toppings, but generally satisfactory for their specialty slices if you stop in for a quick bite.
