Not really a review. I never got to try it, but was looking forward to it. Howver, Ashka told me they closed, because the City didn’t allow them to have tables, by law.

This bright, shiny, metallic truck has been tempting me for quite some time. Too lazy to drive to my other movable food vendor, I decided to give Ashka’s a try. It’s really cool that there’s a truck in the area where one can score curry. I had the Saag Paneer. I’d probably avoid it if you are looking for flavorful Saag Paneer. The taste is very muted and is really lacking spice and flavor. It’s really sad reporting that, but so it goes. Thankfully, I ordered some Somosas and bread with my order. Both were delicious. It’s kind of cool to watch the bread being made to the left of the truck. The service is super nice and there are some tables and a tent if you don’t want to take your food to go. Not a bad little lunch spot, especially when the weather’s nice. I’ll definitely drop back by!

Yum! And, cheap too! The Samosas were excellent. I had the chicken tikka masala. Everything was very fresh and the plates come with quite a bit of food. Fox news was shooting a story about Ashka’s while we were there and I overheard the owner say that she is only 24 and straight out of college! She also said that she gets her produce from the local farmers market. Very impressed and satisfied customer here.

I’m no expert in the realm of Indian food, but if you’re wanting Indian on the cheap and don’t feel like making the short trip OTL to 59/Hillcroft, this will get it done. Basic offerings, but hey, where else are you going to get Indian to go? Good, fair prices and a good amount of food(seems Ashka has taken previous Unilocalers’ advice). I ordered the Saag Paneer and Chicken Curry. Both came with naan and rice. While I personally would like some stronger flavors(it seemed that things might be a little toned down for American tastebuds), I still enjoyed both dishes. I am somewhat of a glutton for punishment when it comes to heat, so I asked for mine spicy. While it had a mild kick, I definitely wanted more, so if you’re big on heat, you might want to ask to get it cranked up even more. Naan was soft and warm and tasted pretty fresh, but the rice was a bit salty, though that could easily just be batch specific. Good start so far for Ashka’s. I’ll be seeing how the place compares with the endless breakfast taco offerings in Rice Military in the near future and look forward to sampling a little more of the Indian dishes on the menu. This place is worth your time.

I was really excited about the possibility of a nearby Indian food«fast & cheap» outlet, which would save me a drive over to SW little India area. Although the food was fresh & tasty… there was so little of it! Rice is considered one of your three choices for the Indian combo plate, so that leaves just two vegies or one veg & a meat. I got the chicken, lentels & rice. Just two small cut pieces of chicken, not whole pieces, just small cubes of white meat, and they were both overcooked & dry, but smothered in a delicious curry. All portions were on the small side. So come on guys… Lay down a bed of rice in the larger partition of the 3 partitioned«to go» container, with the main meat portion on top of the rice, and include two veg sides. … add 50 cents to the price, and you’ll have a winner for sure! Only being open two weeks Im hoping they see the error of their ways and«rethink» their portion sizes. GREATPOTENTIALHERE& I hope they catch on… we need a casual, fast, & cheap Indian food purveyor in the neighborhood, and they have tacos and burgers too!

I thought I’d throw my hat into the great taco truck/trailor hunt. It seems food trends for 2010 are Gastropubs, Farm to Table, and Street foods. So put me in Coach, I’m ready to eat! This food trailer is sandwiched between my local gym and hardware store, so It’s been laughing at me the weeks it took to open. You can’t miss the shiny aluminum taco trailer sitting in the parking lot of Midtown Ace Hardware, it’s the Cadillac of food trailers. They offer breakfast tacos, fajita tacos and platters. They also offer tortas and burritos with some quickies such as chips, nachos, and queso. I had the beef fajita torta and it was pretty good and greasy. They have a small Indian food menu from the menu«Indian Plates-$ 4.99 Just tell us if you want vegetarian food, meat, or one of each! Samosas-$ 1.50» I was told they will be expanding their Indian food menu next week and this weekend they are opening for the late night bar crowd.
