with the sun at high noon horse sweat beading down stetson shade over your face dig your stirrups in. gun in hand you ride between the arizona rocks and into the southwest now put that into a diorama, shrink it down and shove that imagery in your mouth! thats the shorty sandwich from be-wiched onions, jalepeno, brisket and black olives between 2 big paninis why its called the shorty i have no idea but it will transform you and take you into the southwest the flavor was hot and beefy but unfortunately the brisket was a little dry for me. Overall a very good sandwich. not alot of room to sit in the café but thats ok, plenty of seating just outside in the food court area.

Working for Corporate America is depressing enough but having a wide yet limited range of viable lunch options manages to be a more depressing issue. The«Tunnels» as downtown drones know the underground labryinth of restaurants to be can be difficult to navigate as there are tons of mediocre chains and a few solid eateries. Bee-wiched is one of them– if the Tunnels had a hole– in– the– wall type place, this would be it. The sandwich shop has a nicely edited list of pretzel hoagies, vegetarian paninis(love this– a definite try on my next trip), assorted paninis and soups/salads. I’m a pretzel bread addict(see my review on Moon Tower Inn) so my eyes narrowed to the four choices underneath the heading. «Spanish Ham and Manchego» stood out instantly. The Ham, Manchego(I didn’t even know what the hell that was ’til I Googled it back at my desk), Sweet Red Peppers, Sundried Tomato, Garlic, Olive Oil and Smoked Paprika spoke to me. And it was good(I wish I could italicize that): the sandwich held together nicely between bites and punctured my tastebuds aggressively. The peppers were drowned in the oil and were sauteed a bit past translucent but they still held it together for this sandwich. My only gripes would be that the sandwich erred on a heavy hand of salt– the bread and the contents as well. Also, it cost about $ 5 dollars for a half(small) sandwich. I was still hungry but I wasn’t about to buy a whole for $ 9 bucks. But I give this place 4 stars because its the Tunnels– probably one of the best you can choose from considering your options when you are working for the man.

I really like Be-Wiched! My go-to sandwich has become the chipotle grilled cheese with avocado, tomato and chipotle mayo(I also add arugula, yum!). My co-worker has gotten this too, as well as the short rib panini, which she enjoyed. Some of the soups are better than others, but you can ask for samples before you order to help you decide. The prices are not really that high compared with other«gourmet» sandwich places. Plus, a half-panini is actually larger than you might expect, this is what I always get and have never left less than stuffed. Last time I was there we got a to-go order and at no fault of the restaurant, another person waiting picked up my friend’s lunch on accident and took off. The workers made a new sandwich immediately, and even threw in soup and a cookie to make up for it, which I thought was very nice. Customer service has always been excellent here. Definitely worth a trip!

It’s okay but I’d rather eat at Quiznos at least they’re a tad cleaner

I tend to only take the time to write reviews when I strongly disagree with the consensus. There is no way this can be a 2.5 star place. Have you eaten in the tunnels? It’s not exactly restaurant row down there. Yes, the line can be long and, yes, its going to cost you more than going to Subway. However, when you compare it to the cost of a real deli, then its about average. Its cheaper(and better) than Katz for example. The turkey, brie, and pear panini is probably my favorite single item in the tunnels.

After working downtown for several years, you begin to get tired of the limited options for lunch, which is why I’ve been to Be-Wiched a handful of times. Every time I go back hoping they improved their model, they consistently disappointed me. As several reviews mention, get ready for an above average price for a below average«gourmet» meal… I like the fact they have unique options for soup and sandwiches relative to what is available nearby in the tunnels, but thats about it. The soups, albeit made from scratch, are not that flavorful. The sandwiches are pretty meager(not a lot of meat) and always leave me hungry.

Be-Wiched has delicious sandwiches and unique, fresh, scratch-made soups. The soup and specials rotate daily. The guy who usually takes orders(who is the owner, I’m assuming) is really friendly and will offer you a sample of any of the soups if you have a question about the taste(or if you just ask to try). There are only two things that prevent Be-Wiched from earning the full five stars: 1) It is slightly on the pricier side for soup and sandwich fare. For a delicious ALT(Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato) with goat cheese sandwich and a cup of soup that I had for lunch earlier this week, I paid around $ 13. 2) The line can sometimes get quite long and feel like it isn’t moving much. If you’re in a hurry, it can be hit or miss. The vegetarian options are plentiful(by Houston standards), as well as delicious and filling. I also enjoy that the menu(including daily specials and soups) is updated weekly online, so you can check it out before you go there. If you’re looking for a hearty yet simple, sophisticated and healthy lunch downtown, Be-Wiched is the place to go!

I had a panini, and it was simply«ok» but definitely not good enough to write home about. Also, last time I checked, $ 8+ for a panini is ridiculously expensive. I had heard that this place was a sure thing, but I’m here to report that it is NOT a sure thing. If you’re unsure about where to go eat, you can eliminate this from your list of options, that is unless you like bland expensive food.

I heard the soups here are amazing from another person(not the reviewer below). I had a tortilla soup and it was okay. I had a ½ sandwich and it was okay too. If you like sweet stuff in your sandwiches, this might be a good place for you. It was not bad overall.
