I’ve been going here since before they moved to this location when they were on 59. I have no clue why it took me so long to write a review, but better late than never! It’s in a shopping center on Hillcroft tucked into a little corner. If it’s your first time, it may be a little easy to miss, but once you’ve gone once, you should have no problems! There is a decent sized parking lot, but I imagine it can get pretty full fast. The interior is simple but bordering on wanting to be somewhat upscale. It’s also somewhat dimly lit. There’s usually someone at the front waiting to greet you, but you essentially seat yourself(or at least this is the case when I go). They’re vegetarian and reportedly don’t cook with onions or garlic so they’re Jain-friendly. However, they do serve fresh onion on their salad bar. It’s buffet-style but they do have a to-go/catering menu you can order off of as well as take out. I find that their offerings at the new location are lacking but they do have a decent selection — a puri bar that also doubles as a salad and dessert bar on the side. There are the big metal plates that come with the small mini metal bowls and the food begins with about 4 curries(one of them tends to feature paneer), 2 rice dishes(1 plain and 1 flavored), 2 soup offerings(1 yogurt-based and one not), and some«starters» like the spongy bread and if I’m lucky, they’ll have some Indian«fritters» or my favorite patra. What I really love are their fresh ‘breads’ — the chapati, the date-stuffed bread, the giant fried poofy bread — that they’ll bring to your table. They also provide a large pitcher of water for you. All in all, the actual food choices are good — not TOO spicy — but they don’t often serve my favorite curries or dishes(saag/palak paneer, mutter paneer, patra) on a regular basis and the desserts tend to be basic like kheer. Last time, they didn’t have any papadums(I like to dip it in my yogurt soup), so boo on that. Nothing overly fancy — even for dinner! Don’t get me wrong; it’s pretty good and I enjoy stepping outside of my box, but I’d like my favorites every once in a while, especially with the price tag. Even with that said, I always leave full and too satisfied. Compared to the old location, I think I liked their selections there more or maybe it was enhanced by our surroundings(poofy pillows, anyone?), but I’m glad they’re still open so I try to visit every couple of months to support them. The staff is fairly nice as well and on my last visit, one even asked me if I knew how to prepare my puri. All in all, one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Houston! The price is a little expensive, though. However, you can always order take out — it’s pretty decent sized. The only problem is that you choose what you want(I think it’s 2 or 3 items from the buffet including a soup and bread — or rice?), they pack it for you, and you can’t taste it until you get home(or to your car). The one time I got take-out, I tried this bright red mystery curry that was like eating salt in a red liquid form and it was the only Indian dish I’ve ever disliked. I ended up having to re-cook it to make it more palatable, but everything else I got was great!

We live in Austin Texas, and used to find excuses to drive to Houston to be able to eat at Thaali(the old name this place had at another location). It seems to be just as good now after the change in name and location. It’s rare to find an Indian restaurant of this kind in Texas, as it is not focussed on Punjabi or South Indian food. This is Gujrati cuisine, mostly. The«Kadi» and fresh warm rotis are to die for. Very authentic, simple, pleasing — like home made.

The vegetarian buffet here is very fresh and good. It is authentic home cooked food. There are several vegetable sabji options with rice dal roti naan gulaab jamun and shrikhand. Very simple food but very delicious. Makes you feel like home. But price wise i would say its a little high as they charge 12 $ + tax for the vegetarian buffet, where as other indian buffet restaurants in the same area offer a much bigger spread with multiple non veg options as well.

The food is tasteless and stale. The quality of ingredients used very poor. Its a rip off for the quality of food that they serve. $ 15 per person for a lunch buffet on a weekday(Friday). I would not go back ever. A much better option for Indian vegetarian food is Maharaja Bhog. They serve much superior quality of food for the same price.

Gave me diarrhea. It wasn’t the spice it was food poisoning. Other than that it was ok

I was excited to eat here because I am a huge fan of Indian food. This was not great. I would not come back here. My friend liked it, so to each his own. It wasn’t for me though. Picture is here too.

Love this place I come here all the time from Sugar Land. They have amazing fresh roties, fav shrikhand, pander, undhu, and they aso have pani puri. We buy Roti’s in bulk, puran policy, and they also have tiffin service here.

My family comes here often, but it’s always my parent’s choice to come here, not mine. I don’t know why they choose to eat Gujarati food when they go out. They already have that almost everyday at home. Nothing too exciting here, but they make decent gujju food. The food is not too spicy either, unlike most other Indian restaurants. They bring out fresh roti and puri to your table.

Delicious! I’m always on the lookout for tasty vegetarian food and found it here. Hidden away in the corner of a strip, we almost didn’t go in because the steamy windows meant we couldn’t see inside. Glad we did though, as soon as we stepped through the door we were welcomed really warmly and had the buffet explained. The staff were lovely, showing us how to best serve the dishes. A lovely selection of fresh, hot and yummy veggie dishes and puri. Looking forward to going back!

This place used to be really awesome. The quality has gone down and prices have increased in the new location. The food is a hit and miss. There are times when you can feel the food is completely stale. There are times when it is fresh.

This place serves authentic vegetarian Gujrati Indian food. Food is very tasty and the hospitality is fantastic. Everytime I visit Houston, love to go there.

Pleasant service, mediocre food. The lunch buffet contained a large number of vegetarian dishes, all of which were neither dreadful nor remarkable. Pretty bland spicing, tending toward sweet rather than savory or spicy in most dishes. Nice selection of chutneys on the day I went. The fresh bread service table side is a positive. There are multiple vegetarian Indian places on Hillcroft, several of which are better. Quality appears to have fallen off in the new location.

I was here for the buffet. Absolutely pathetic. My stomach felt bloated for over 12 hours after I was there. These guys skewer the food w baking soda. Save your 14 bucks for spending elsewhere. Do not go here people. The water had some particles clearly visible through the glass, the waiter changed the glass but it was still the same. I hope they watch this review and cut down on the baking soda they add in their food. This restaurant is treading a dangerous line.

Reasonably priced indian food is served personally by the owner himself. The food here is delicious and the lunch buffet is a must try. I loved this place.

They mostly serve Gujarati food in the lunch and dinner buffet. The food is always fresh and hot. They bring out fresh rotis and pooris to your table. You also have the option of ordering from the menu. One of the only restaurants in the city that has Rajasthani options on the menu. The service is always attentive and fast.

I really loved Bhojan menu at their former location. This menu might have been just for Diwali, but it was missing the tradition daal that I expected. They also had only red, sweet chutneys which I don’t really care for. Maybe they had sold out of other varieties. The food was okay, but not the experience it used to be.
