Server was very rude… We have finished eating… 10 minutes later server brings dim-sum plate we order 30 minutes ago. I’ve told him I didn’t want it because it came out too late. He gave me the dirties look and told me you order you take. I told him I’m not eat something I have order 40 minutes ago. I Had $ 80 check, paying that much I don’t need dirty look from a server. Dim sum had old oily taste.

Wouldn’t come back — each time I come the food gets worst. Today, the few dishes I had all tasted stale. Mediocre service. Oh and they are serving me food on plastic plates now — what the heck

It is really a 4.5 out of 5, but whatever… this very, very authentic Dim Sum restaurant is fantastic! Service is professional and fast. Steamed shrimp dumplings… slow-cooked chicken’s feet, everything great! All locals here this day… fantastic, unbelievable prices. You are in China when you are here… don’t be afraid of culture shock… the staff will help you order if you do not know how… just ask… Go Here!

This is the second dim sum restaurant we tried in houston. We got Shiu mai: this was ok Ha gow Egg custard: crust was not flaky more like a cookie and custard part was alright Mixed tripe: was not bad Custard bun: was over cooked, the middle and bun were dry I cant say i would recommend this place, but i have yet to find a really good place in houston.

Pretty good dim sum hidden away next to Welcome Food Center. It’s so well hidden, I’ve been coming to this plaza for years and never even heard of it until now! The only indication of its existence is some very small text underneath the police department sign. You order from a menu and food comes out fast, hot, and fresh. Like most dim sum places, they have their hits and misses. Overall not bad, but I still think HK Dim Sum is better. Standouts and must-orders — fried wontons and fried shrimp balls. Decent — siu mai(HK’s is way better), eggplant/shrimp, sticky rice, and black bean spare ribs. Not good at all — congee(undercooked), turnip cake(overcooked), shrimp rice noodles(barely any shrimp), pork xiaolongbao(no soup, too doughy).

Been here several times and besides Fungs Kitchen, they have their dim sum here really good and just delicious! Just don’t order the one that is wrapped in white noodles, because it is mostly just that and not much stuffing inside of it. And whatever is inside of it, it just falls off and it takes away from the experience.

We had a party of five. No other customers were in there except another couple. My party sat down and she took up the chopsticks and plates from my 2 kids. It seemed like an inconvenience to ask for it back but I did because they eat with chopsticks. The service size seem smaller and more expensive than other dim sum places.

This place was pretty good. I’ve only been to one other dim sum place so far and compared to Fungs kitchens dim some hours where they cart everything around, dim sum King was much better. You got to take your time and decide what you wanted and write it down. I thought it was much fresher here and tasted a lot better. We had to sit at a round table with two other couples but we were fine doing that seeing as though rush hour of 12pm on a Sunday was about to happen. My boyfriend unfortunately did not feel good after eating here, he thinks there might have been some MSG in some dishes and he is pretty sensitive to it so maybe we will ask next time. We really don’t know if it was the MSG but he usually only feels this way when he’s had a lot of it. Just FYI. Don’t let that keep you from at least trying it because I had a great experience!

Today I decide to come for lunch. The service was a bit slow it seems to me considering there were only 3 customers there including me. Today was weird was I ordered 6 dim sum dishes and two were bad. There shrimp dumpling was not cooked right or something because it tasted not fresh or it tasted too flourery yuck and also there pork spare rib tasted bad like the pork ribs were bad and has that bad taste. I’m not sure but them cooking pork spare ribs like after its already bad can make someone sick. Thought to give you guys a heads up.

Serviceable dim sum. I don’t recommend the baked pork puffs as the pastry is doughy and dull, but the other items were OK. The chicken in foil and steamed shrimp dumplings were the best. We also had steamed shrimp with rice noodle, but if you are having the dumplings you don’t need it. The shrimp dumplings are tastier and easier to eat. Pan fried pork dumplings were potstickeresque, but not super crispy or flavorful. The egg custard tarts were OK. Service was OK. I hated their cheapy padded plastic tablecloths, though.

First off, let me just say that this was really difficult to find. It’s in the corner of the shopping plaza, and the sign for the restaurant is much smaller than the words«Houston police department» above it. The service also wasn’t great. The guy working there didn’t seem to speak much English so it took a while to get seated at a table with enough seating and to get menus. However, there was a much more competent lady working there who took our order. The food here was pretty great. Personally, I favored all the shrimp dishes. I like that this dim sum place has you order what you want rather than picking from carts pushed around the room like at Kim Son.(Although as an aside, I like Kim Son’s dim sum better.) Being able to order things from a menu ensured that the food was fresh and hot when served. Overall, I was satisfied with my visit to Dim Sum King and would come back at a future time.

They are one of the better dim sum places I’ve tried in Houston. It can get crowded at times, like Saturdays or near 12 noon on Sundays, but I came just before 11 on a Sunday and it was quiet with only a few other tables seated. We ordered around 9 dishes for 4 people and the bill was $ 39. Tried the deep fried taro cake, deep fried shrimp ball, steamed beef ball, steamed custard cream ball, steamed chicken feet, steamed shrimp rice noodle, and shrimp stuffed eggplant. My favorites are the eggplant and chicken feet. Everything else was pretty good as well. I’ll definitely put this on my go-to list from now on.

The service here isn’t king, but the food is excellent! Humble yet superb is how I would describe this hole-in-the-wall dim sum place. To start off, the food here is some of the best dim sum in all of Houston Chinatown. The fried taro puff was a golden brown and the panfried shrimp&chives dumplings were savory. I’d also recommend the rice noodle dishes including shrimp, beef, and pork ribs that come bathed in a soy sauce that is sweet but not overpowering. Unfortunately, this hole-in-the-wall is what it is: a small joint unfit for large groups and fills up quickly(good luck finding a spot during the weekend lunch rush). To deal with lack of space, dim sum King did away with carts, and orders are done through cards. You might also find yourself sharing a table with strangers.(These two features are actually common at Hong Kong dim sum places.) The decoration is lacking, the joint is small, the service is subpar, but the savory food far outweighs the restaurants shortcomings!

Pros: Food isn’t on a push cart. You pencil it in on a paper and it’s made to order. So your food comes out hot and fresh! Cons: the location is kind of hidden, located in a small corner of the plaza, so it’s pretty cramped inside. You can do large groups, but it’ll be a tight squeeze. Owner?/cashier at the front is incredibly rude. Recommended: ha cao, shiu mai, steamed pork spare ribs w blackbean sauce, chicken claw w blackbean sauce, deep fried pork puff, ginger and beef tripe, pan fried chives dumpling. These were all delicious! And Chinese mom approved(my mom lol). Not good: steamed pork dumpling aka xiao long bao(the one with soup inside), theirs isn’t good, and not enough soup inside. Steam shrimp rice noodle… Theirs is a joke, and barely any shrimp, total rip off! Steamed rice noodle with fried bread… Theirs jsnt good. The fried garlic shrimp roll are just regular fried eggrolls with shrimp inside :/cheap.

The king knows what’s up! Dim sum is a Sunday tradition in my family, so my ‘rents took Eric R. and I to Dim Sum King for the first time. I had no idea how they found it because it is hidden in the back of a center(turns out they found it from Unilocal! of course) and knew how it worked. It must be the holiday weekend because though busy, it was not full with lines out of the door. The staff was great throughout, explaining different items, refilling water, and replenishing our jasmine teapot. Several types of tea were offered at the beginning(like chrysanthemum) but jasmine is the only non-green tea that Eric R. will drink so far(he is a work in progress). Then a server came by with a tray that had foil-wrapped chicken on it. We had no idea what to do until Eric R. said«why not?» and got a plate of it. The server cut each foil packet in half. The chicken was so flavorful it was like a secret treat(though on the menu). The rest of the orders we marked on a sheet from the picture menu. After the foil-wrapped chicken we got: sticky rice in lotus leaf(my dad’s fave), 2 orders of shrimp-stuffed eggplant(sooo delicious), fried shrimp balls, steamed shrimp dumplings, bean curd roll, fried bean curd stuffed with shrimp, Chinese broccoli, steamed beef noodle, and egg custard buns. I have to say the fried bean curd stuffed with shrimp was sooo flavorful and tasty that I was almost surprised at how good it is. I also love the eggplant with shrimp. Overall, we had a very tasty meal with good service, and everything was hot and came out efficiently. I would definitely return but will expect a wait — and that is fine!

My wife and I visited Dim Sum King for dinner with another couple. It was our first venture into the area for quite some time and it’s important to note that this place is kinda hidden in the far corner of the strip mall. Look for the«police» sign and you’re close. We were the only people dining at 8pm on a Saturday and the hostess/waitress and cook greeted us and got us set up with a table. There are reviews on here complaining about angry staff and we didn’t experience that, but then again, it wasn’t busy at all so maybe it’s a peak hour stress issue? Interior is very basic. Drop ceiling with fluorescent lighting, the exterior wall is floor to ceiling windowpane looking out at the various shops in the strip mall and parking lot, simple tables and chairs with plastic tablecloth for the messier of eaters and/or dishes, and so forth. If you’ve ever searched out a good bowl of phở or authentic Chinese food, you’ve seen the interior of this place. We let the other couple take lead with the ordering and next thing we knew, we had a dozen or so steam pots in front of us with all kinds of great looking dumplings, meats and vegetables. I did go adventurous and order the chicken feet, so there was that too next to all he good looking stuff. Some of the particular memorable dishes were as follows. Foil Wrapped Pork. Little bits of juicy pork wrapped and cooked in tin foil brought out piping hot. Hard to hate! Fried Pork dumplings, hell any of their dumplings, fried or steamed, were some of the best dumplings i“ve had. The chicken feet were actually very good flavor wise, but I could not get over the toe nail like texture of the cartilage beneath the tasty skin.(At least I tried!) There was a neon green plate of greens with a dark sauce dripped over it that was fantastic but I of course couldn’t tell you what it was on the menu.(Maybe Broccoli with Oyster sauce?) Shrimp balls were great and so were other incarnations of shrimp dishes I plowed through. All in all a great spread of dishes and I can’t recall really not enjoying many things. Price wasn’t bad considering we ordered a LARGE portion of the menu. I believe it totaled out to around $ 40 a couple. I am by no means a Dim Sum expert, but I also know what my mouth is telling me, so running off of quality of food and flavors alone, this place is amazing. If it gets better than this, then I’ll be spending a lot more time in China Town! Definitely worth a visit and a bite or two of your own.

The lady who seated us was very rude and looked angry at me and my boyfriend with no smile. Right after we got seated there was a big party of american people who the lady seated and she was very nice and was smiling at them. we felt that the lady was racist. Dimsum was fast and good except the rice noodle cake. more flour on the cake they used so it was not thin and just one shrimp inside.

Formerly my #1 dim sum place in Houston, Dim Sum King’s quality has noticeably declined. The price has significantly increased($ 2.88÷3.88÷4.88): we family of four used to eat there for less than $ 35, but our recent visit as a family of three has to pay more than $ 50. On top of that, the portion has also drastically decreased. The most notable examples of decreased portion are the pathetically small fried shrimp ball and the rice noodle wrap with only two small shrimps in each. Don’t get me wrong: the taste is still there and Dim Sum King is still a solid dim sum place. However, because of the price increase and the portion decrease, the value is no longer there. Dim Sum King will still be on my list of good Houston dim sum, but it is unfortunately not my top choice anymore.
