I like coming to this place on weekdays. The dim sum prices are decent and plus it is not too crowded.

I really only go here because it’s a little cheaper than other dim sum places, except their banh cuon shrimp which is $ 6(I don’t understand why). Their food is okay… The banh cuon wasn’t good and had no flavor, the egg tarts weren’t even warm. I only keep returning because when I go eat dim sum I spend so much, so it is a little pocket saver to come here. Otherwise, you can get better dim sum at places like Fung’s kitchen and Kim Son. Also I wouldn’t recommend their fried calamari, it is so much dough and just doesn’t taste very good.

I came here on New Year’s Day(a Friday) for lunch. Arriving around 11:30ish, we had a 20 minute wait. Everyone seems to grab a menu and order form while they wait and check off which items they want so the food comes sooner once you’re seated. There were three of us and we tried 11 items. I would’ve done 9 plates at most in hindsight – even then we would’ve probably still been stuffed. My favorites that I’d get again were the steamed shrimp dumplings(01), the steamed pork/peanut/veg dumplings(03), the Shanghai pork dumplings(06), and the steamed pork ribs(08). If you’re not a big fan of pork, this isn’t the best place to come. However, if you will eat it occasionally, this is a good place to do it. The most surprising item that I liked was the ribs. They’re minuscule chunks of meat that have a ton of flavor. The same with the Shanghai pork dumplings… good onion flavor. The other two dumplings are nice too. The items I liked okay were the Malaysian sponge cake(25), pan fried pork dumplings(33), pork/shrimp shiu mai(02), and pan fried pork bun(48). The cake is definitely spongey… it has a very light flavor that’s not bad, but not memorable. After having so many plates of pork, the fried dumplings, buns, and shiu mai were just less impressive. The items I wouldn’t waste the space in my stomach for again were the veg spring rolls(47), foil wrapped chicken(36), and fried stick bread(46). The stick bread was just fried, bland bread. The spring rolls were okay, but I’ve had much better. And the foil wrapped chicken had nice onion flavor, but stuck to the foil and was verging on burnt. Their hot tea is loose and unfiltered, if you don’t mind drinking your tea like that. Overall, I liked some stuff enough that I’d come back.

Pretty good! My new found love for dim sum has taken me to many different places around this area and it’s not bad. The smell walking into the place is a little off putting but it’s not a deal breaker. We ordered the Mongolian beef and that was a 5 star dish. The pork steam dumplings were a 3.5, the bbq steam bun 4.5, steam bun with custard 5 stars, shumi 3, and lastly chicken feet with pork rib I can’t judge that, it was my first time having chicken feet but it was good. Overall, you should give it a try. They have the menu all over the walls when you walk in so you know what the dishes look like.

Great dimsum. I always get the chicken feet and it’s pretty good. This place is always busy so make sure you are ready to wait 20 – 30 mins for your table. Customers is average. I only come here for their food.

I have only been here one time. We had a large verity of eats. I am a big fan of pork shumai. Theirs is not the best I have ever had. I(t was more just kind of OK. Everything else I tried was really good. I got very busy and a bit loud when we were there. A solid 4 stars for me.

They have pretty good dim sum here. But the proportion of the food has downsized a lot. It’s 2⁄3 of the size that it used to be. They were even stingy on the sauce that came with the fried shrimp. The chicken feet didn’t taste as good, and wasn’t as tender.

Came a few weekends ago with some friends on a Saturday RIGHT before the dinner rush so we were seated quickly. Menu has a ton of dim sum items as well as family style entrees. Food was good, can’t remember everything we ordered but everything came out hot. Definitely a good variety of dim sum items, with the standard dumplings and pork buns. Dumplings were pretty good, lots of filling and the actual dumpling wasn’t soggy and gooey from being overcooked. I do like that they bring the items to your table instead of the cart. We also ordered the egg drop soup which came enough for plenty. I don’t like the random peas and carrots in the soup. super weird. Service wasn’t bad surprisingly. I guess because there weren’t a ton of people until we were closer to the end of our meal that they were so attentive to us. I would say that I did enjoy HK Dim Sum a bit more, but this place definitely fares better than Fungs Kitchen and Golden Palace.

Not worth the money at all! The Dimsum are not either fresh or with good taste. My first time for Dimsum was sooooo bad! Never go back for sure.

Dim sum is available all day, where you check off your order from a checklist – no push carts here. Additionally, they have an entirely separate menu of non-dim sum items. The food is tasty, but the décor is quite strange: chairs covered by yellow embroidered silks, but tabled covered in layers of the disposable white plastic sheets. Also, service is quite lacking; you have to flag down someone for them to take your order.

If you come at the wrong time, it will be BUSY and you will have a long WAIT. This is a great introduction to Dim Sum because you order from the menu instead of ordering from the carts. They have the traditional menu items like the Chinese broccoli, sui mai, shrimp noodles, chicken feet, and the like. They had a few things that really stood out during my introduction: Steamed Peanut/Pork dumpling, pork ribs(toes — they’re tiny — but good!) with black bean sauce, turnip cake, chicken wings, and Malaysian egg custard rolls(like sponge cake). It’s busy, slightly loud, and can be messy for those not handy with chop sticks, but I have to say this is my new favorite dim sum place again — for a good stomach stuffing, you’ll be out about $ 20, a little more than Ocean Palace or Golden Palace, but worth it. As with most places, be prepared for a slight language barrier if you’re an English only speaker. The staff are nice, but can be neglectful if it’s super crowded — but that’s just par for the course. Go early when they open and beat the crowds. Parking is a bit difficult since it’s a small lot — and if you miss it, it’s a real pain to turn around and take a left into the area — but be patient. If you have to make a U-turn on Bellaire, I recommend going over the bridge and taking a U-turn there because you can see oncoming traffic.

This place has so many options its mind boggling! Anything from sweet to super salty, and chewy to extra crunchy! The food comes very quickly and the wait staff is very fast. This place offers no frills, but it totally gets the job done. I highly recommend the #4 dim sum(the scallop and bean leaf dumpling) and the #2(pork dumpling). Their food is always consistent and definitely hits the spot. Golden Dim Sum is very reasonably priced and both me and my wallet leave full. The only thing that could make this place better is a more pleasant wait staff and a quieter ambiance(it’s good for groups, so there’s always at least one unhappy baby).

Solid dim sum restaurant although not exactly rave worthy. Although the chicken feet was one of the best I had in Houston and the shrimp dumplings were great, the rest was pretty mediocre aside from the shumai that was pretty bad and fell apart on me every piece. With an average price of $ 4 per order, this is not exactly cheap even by dim sum standard. Despite what the name suggests, this restaurant does have a much diverse menu that is outside the dim sum cuisine. The massive size of Cantonese dish selection is insane, so perhaps this is a good place if you want to get a taste of many things in the Cantonese cuisine without moving out of your chair! This restaurant gets really packed especially at lunchtime so be prepared for a backup plan if you do intend to go.

Wow. What a treat, a mid week Dim Sum delight. I’m here tonight with top top Chinese foodie friends. Treated as a guest. So, my review is skewed. I admit it! The hostess and host of this evening’s dinner party are very discerning about good Chinese food. She is a great foodie and cook. So if they want to meet up here… well, you know the food is gonna taste ggg-grate.(It was and is and will be for you too!!!) Everything was hand selected and co-ordinated in Chinese, down to the exact instructions how the chef should and would prepare each dish. Really. And that’s how they roll. So my experience isn’t typical.(My lame ordering is limited to the alpha numeric codes prescribed on the menu.) So when possible I enjoy having my expert friend lead the way. Why not?! Yes there is a fine art to matching the appetizers and side dishes so a triumph of taste resonates. And great chefs and hostess can wield this skill like I can brandish a curling iron with skill creating 80’s hair! Did someone say disco ball and dancing lights? Check. If while seated, you gaze up to the sky, you will be treated to and red and green light show on the ceiling. Like a club. I doubled checked. Yup. It’s there and intentional. I also tried to video on Unilocal but the upload jammed. So, take my word for it. And if you use your imagination, you can see Harrison Ford cruise by with the Millennial Falcon! (Too bad about his accident this week. Very glad he is ok… but you gotta admit the creative MEME’s are pretty funny) The dining room is complete with happy bright yellow chair covers. Some have velcro squares for phantom bows on the back. Others have big matching yellow bows. Is this a dinning option? Could I suggest an alternate bow? Or perhaps, the Millennium Falcon? Whatever the case, get your land cruiser here for great taste. Dim Som awaits! P. S. See my pictures for entrée ideas. Sorry I couldn’t keep up w the alpha numeric codes and taking and posting pictures on Unilocal. The delicious dishes kept arriving.(Sigh) or to go w my Star Wars ceiling theme… Lord Vader foiled my documentation perfection. Drat. Glad he’s not my father.

Was served with bad moldy vegetables and shrimp the size of a kumquat. Complained to the staff several times and everyone shrugged and walked off. I asked the waiter would you eat it and would you serve this to your family, he whispered I won’t, but sorry nothing I can do. Please see my picture.

This dimsum place is nothing fancy. I came with a friend that wanted a different place to visit than his usual spot. I tried the salt toasted chicken wings, pan fried turnip cake and steamed tripe. None of my dishes were really that great. Wings — come with diced bell peppers and thick breading. I’ve had better many other places Tripe — I’m not a huge fan of tripe to begin with, but even when dipped in the sauce, it is still pretty bland to me Turnip cake — this dish which I usually love elsewhere was a big disappointment. It just didn’t taste that great to me. I sampled some of my friends bbq pork steamed bun and a shrimp and pork shiu mai which was not bad at all. Not sure I’d be coming back anytime soon though.

This was once my favorite dim sum place but as of lately based on several previous visits here; they have been letting their food go. Shrimp dumplings are no longer fresh, their dim sum menu overall is no longer fresh. The food tastes old, stale & greasy. It’s a bit disappointing since I have been going to this restaurant for a while. I’ve also had an issue with a staff member; one of my friends asked if they could have some cilantro on top of their shrimp rice sheets & the waitress refused to ask the kitchen stating it’s just not possible. How is this not possible? Many of their dishes have cilantro as a garnish, if a guest requests cilantro on a dish & is paying you for it why would you refuse? We are giving you money to put cilantro in our order, charge whatever you deem necessary but we just want some damn cilantro. Nope just not possible. Excuse me? I think the only time I’ll ever return to this place is if I was really really craving dim sum late at night since they serve dim sum all day. Otherwise I would take my business elsewhere. It’s ridiculous how bad things got here. They are in dire need of new management & chef.

Major improvements since I last visited. The service here was fantastic and the food always arrived quick(note: you order the dim sum here. no carts). We arrived with a group of eight people and yet we were were seated immediately despite the huge crowd of people waiting. Either we got lucky or they seated us immediately because we had our entire party present! We immediately started ordering and dishes kept pouring in. The hot tea arrived first and they were fast on filling up empty pots when empty. Food here is delicious and well priced. Everyone enjoyed the dishes and I thought the quality was great. Favorites were the shrimp dumplings and egg custard buns. The egg custard buns were super warm, soft, and delicious. Not too sweet, nor bland. I would for sure order more next time. We ordered about 20 dishes total and each plate of food was empty by the end of the meal except for the chicken feet(only two people on the table liked chicken feet). The total came out to only $ 108. 21 with tip included! That’s about $ 13.53 per person and each person was full too. We could have ordered less and still been happy but this just shows the good value. Try ordering the same amount of food at Fung’s Kitchen and see what happens! The only downside is that they don’t roll around carts here. The ordering method is a bit more efficient and you are able to get more variety, but for the rookies who don’t know what to order you don’t get any visual presentation before committing. For first timers, go with a friend who knows what to order! Your service may vary of course, but my last experience was good. Overall, this place has great tasting dim sum for a great price. I might even say that this is my favorite Dim Sum place in Houston.

I have lived in Houston for 15 years so far, and been to many dim sum restaurants, including Fung’s Kitchen, Ocean Palace, Kim Son Stafford, Kim Son Bellaire, etc. I would have to say that this location has the best dim sum in Houston by far. My friends point out quite often how picky I am with Chinese foods. Can’t really blame myself since it was the type of food that I was raised on. And particularly because I am from a Cantonese culture, I am extremely picky with my dim sum places. Dim sum isn’t just food, but a regular gathering for Cantonese families. We go out and get dim sum so often that the slightest difference in taste between each restaurant’s dim sum could be distinguished. The fact that Golden Dim Sum is the best out of all the other dim sum places is not just my opinion alone, but also the opinions of my immigrant parents, who have been eating dim sum in Hong Kong wayyy before I was born. You can trust their tastes if not mine. SUGGESTIONSONWHATTOORDER: Siu Mai & Shrimp Dumplings(Ha Gao) are a must. Chicken feet, steamed ribs, deep fried shrimp balls, bbq pork steamed buns, rice noodle rolls(beef or shrimp) are among the best and most common dishes to eat at dim sum. Don’t forget to finish your meal with a sweet egg tart. The only down side is that they do not use metal carts that are pushed around from table to table while carrying numerous dishes of dim sum, which is the traditional way to order and eat dim sum. It kills the whole dim sum experience :( 5 stars because it’s the best dim sum location in Houston as of today. If another dim sum place pops up in the future that happens to be better, then perhaps I will knock off a star and direct you to that place instead. BUT if you want true quality dim sum, I suggest you take a trip to Hong Kong :)
