I was soooo excited when this location opened! Sure, it looks a little dark & secluded… it’s inside/beside a gas station… drive-through has never been open the times I’ve been by, but the chicken is always hot & crispy & oh so flavorful! They also have a $ 5.99 deal for 5 pieces with a side of fries or rice– can’t beat that! Loveeee me some Frenchy’s!

So I decided to finally go to Frenchys and see what the hype is all about. I’m from Louisiana so I grew up on Popeyes. I went in at 11:30am and it was empty. I ordered the 8pc dark. Total was $ 9 and some change. As I went to sit down the cashier said my order was ready. Although it wasn’t fresh… it was warm. The chicken was okay. Battered really well and juicy on the insides. The only thing is it was very salty. I couldn’t eat more than two pieces because of the salt. I will probably try another location. FYI this location has .992pc chicken on Wednesdays.

I’d rather go here than receive the horrible drive thru service of the next door Popeye’s. It’s hard to mess up fried chicken. They use the small chicken parts so if you want to get full, look at a 4 piece. Bring your smartphone. You’ll probably be waiting 5 – 10 minutes for your order

Why no reviews by white people? I love this place and I wish more races knew about this urban hidden gem. Get away from the bucket and come get you some fried okra, chitlens, ox tails… sorry got carried away, well they ain’t got all that but they should! It made my belly happy and it’ll do the same to yours. Greasy lips is what I live for!

I’ve been to this location a couple of times. Each time I think the chicken is a little more salty than the other locations. I go back hoping it was just that time. I really wanted to like it because it’s so close. I went today and it looked okay but tasted like old burnt oil. I can’t get rid of that burnt smell in my car. Will not be going back. I’ll just go to the popeyes next door.

Not like the Frenchys I know. Chicken tasted like it was fried in day old grease. Fries were good and fresh. Peach cobbler was good too. But I’ll stick to the Popeyes next door.

Hm… ever have those cravings for fried chicken?!? Well I had one a year ago and was so excited to pull up and order, but was devastated to find out this location closed! However, Frenchy’s lovers rejoice as they have returned and I was able to get my fix, however obtaining it was interesting… Walked in the same time as another Asian couple who were probably just hungry after shopping around Fiesta and was like hmm let’s check this place out! Sadly, being both our first time, we were both studying the menu trying to figure out what we wanted… This did not please the cashier, as the other couple was asking for clarification of what some foods were, and I was still staring at all my choices. Eventually, the cashier got impatient and just left the register. I was really confused what was going on, but luckily another nicer cashier replaced her. Ended up ordering the 5 Piece special(5 dark meat pieces with choice of fries or dirty rice) I opted for the rice! In the meantime being THAT Asian/yelper I was taking pictures of the menu and this is where it got shaky. The PO’ed cashier returned as I was taking pics and then she got kinda disgruntled asking if I was videoing her, and I said no. Then bf told her I like taking pics, but apparently she continued to say that it was illegal for me to do so. Oh, the best part, after getting our order to go, we were followed outside to our car and confronted about whether or not I took videos of the Frenchy’s employees, yes I was FOLLOWEDTOMYCAR, absolutely ridiculous! Anyways the batter of the fried chicken was well seasoned and perfectly fried, however the meat inside lacked that yummy flavor you find at other chicken joints and not as juicy. The dirty rice was yummy and complimented the rice. I don’t know if I will be back, but if y’all go, definitely opt for drive through to avoid the crazies.

The food at this location is really not as fresh. The chicken wings are stale and even fries are not crispy at all. The original location at Scott and Wheeler is better as it has 5 wings special. At this location, it only offers 3 wings special with no drinks, no ketchup and no cleaning hand wipes. The only thing that is really going for this store location is just the location itself, close to where I live. That is about it. I do think that this place is not all bad and if they can improve their service and food quality to match up with the original store, they will have a fighting chance for my next visit. Otherwise, the original store here I go.

This location is attached to a gas station off the beltway feeder. I stopped by after the Cirque du Soleil show at the race park. Frenchy’s is consistently good chicken. Crisp and flavorful. Their chicken pieces are smaller than big box chicken chains like KFC and Popeyes. Maybe it’s because their chicken isn’t juiced up on growth hormones? Whatever the reason the quality makes up for the size. Chicken beats out other chains any day. They were running a five piece special for $ 5.99 including a side of dirty rice. Can’t beat that. If you have room for dessert they have sweet potato pie and cakes too. This location is stingy on ketchup though. It’s behind the counter and you have to ask for it. I ordered 9 pieces of chicken total and asked for ketchup, and they gave me two packets.

Slow and Unorganized during lunch rush! I stopped today at 12:30pm and ordered the 3 wing special with fries as the side. Sounds quick and simple right… Well 25 minutes later I received my order. They had several people working, but they just did not have a clear system for taking orders and getting them out timely. I was so frustrated, but i waited because based on what I saw it probably would have taken longer to get a refund. Bright Side: A Popeyes is going up right next door! I will go there just to avoid the unnecessary wait. Chicken was still good, not anything to write home about.

I am going to have to agree with Rick’s assessment on the chicken flavor. I have finally figured it out. The flavor is only skin deep. In my case, I don’t want to go through all of that trouble to make it taste better. So I will just come through in a pinch, when I have a hankering for some«homemake like» chicken. I did enjoy the dirty rice, greens & sweet potatoe pie. My other complaint is the cornbread. No matter which location I go to, when I take a bite, the cornbread muffin just crumbles into little pieces? Something is off with the recipe. It is just too dry for my taste.

Frenchy’s Frenchy’s Rah Rah Rah! Frenchy’s Frenchy’s Rah Rah Rah! Frenchy’s Frenchy’s Rah Rah Rah??? Okay, okay, so we all know that Frenchy’s is like THE one fried chicken chain that does a pretty good job at seasoning chicken without that whole industrialized or commercialized flavor. It’s clear that they have the more homemade flavor than just about any of the other chain competitors. In fact, it’s the only fast food chain that once you get your chicken you can take it home and make some gravy and smother it to make it taste completely homemade. You can’t do that with any other fast food chain that I’ve tried. Now let me be very clear here on why I’m giving this place 3 stars. It has nothing to do with this spot being located in an old abandoned Sonics that was cleverly merged into a truck stop. Nothing to do with the service or even the freshness of the food. Nothing to do with the tiny Frenchy’s sign that can be easily missed when driving around looking for it. It also has nothing to do with how it’s cooked. Then why oh why oh why am I giving Frenchy’s 3 measly stars?! Well… from a fried chickenologists perspective… it’s simply not marinated. What?! What the heck did I just say? Yeah. dangit! The freaking Frenchy’s chicken is not freaking marinated. All that flavor is only skin deep. So once you get down to the meat, it’s as bland as a tongue soaked in Vaseline.(Picture that at your own risk.) Okay, so you’re saying that after you eat off the delicious skin and bite into the meat, that there is no flavor? Yes, that is exactly what I’m saying. Thus, saying that the smaller the piece the better the experience. Wings and legs are the limit. I am telling you guys that at one point after the 3rd piece(ahem) I was to the point at being grossed out. I just couldn’t finish that flavorless thigh. I was happy that the chicken didn’t seemed as if it was all Tyson-Toxic(meaning hormone filled so much that you could almost taste the hormone injection.) I was happy that it was served hot and fresh and very juicy, as I experienced when I bit into the first leg as I was sampling while driving till I reached home. In fact, it made me go from 55 to 80MPH to rush to eat the rest. But when the rest came, it was unsatisfying. I was more satisfied to suck down the icy coke that I bought to rinse away the chicken debris. So all in all, I’m still a fan of Frenchy’s but only when I buy it to bring home to smother. Just take a little oil and diced onions and stir fry and when brown add flour and black pepper and brown more, then slowly add water. After which you soak the chicken in the solution, cover, simmer and wah-lah. Smother and Prosper.
