Food selection was sub par. The Unilocal app shows the menu has grilled chicken but they got rid of it. There was also no music making the big, empty store seem lonely and desolate. The food was not good. The chicken was okay but everything was greasy. Not coming back.

I showed up today with a group today to find they are closed, even though their sign says open 11 – 9 Seven Days a Week. The food is good, but coming to a place that should be open with a group is embarrassing. No note left on door or anything.

Sprouts and slaw are a welcome change from fries. Took my son he loved the chicken. It would be nice to have a grilled chicken option.

Funky Chicken is owned by the same people who own Bradley’s Fine Diner. With a name like Funky Chicken, I was definitely down to get jiggy. Funky Chicken is located in the same shopping center as Bradley’s Fine Diner in The Heights so parking is no problem. I would compare Funky Chicken to Raising Cane’s or Zaxby’s. The menu mainly consists of chicken tenders, chicken wings, and chicken sandwiches with your choice of sides. I went with the three finger plate with fries, mac and cheese, and a biscuit. Funky Chicken sprinkles parsley on everything. They had it on the chicken, fries, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese and fries were some good sides. The biscuit also delivered. What kicked things back a notch for me was the chicken. While the meat was juicy(they use natural ingredients), the seasoning had a weird taste to it. Tough to put in the words but it had a bad aftertaste. Lots of food. I was unable to get jiggy wit it like Will Smith would do. O and they also have funky sauce which is similar to Zaxbys’ and Cane’s special sauces. Overall average but I prefer the competitors.

After the new menu change it was all downhill, got wings what we’re just drenched in sauce and basically inedible. Wish the stuck to the old menu. Won’t be surprised if they close shop soon. Only reason I’ve come as many times because I literally live across the street

The started out ok even though they were a little pricey. And I don’t mind paying a little bit extra for good food. But when the management and the cooks start to not care about how they serve your food, then that’s when there’s a problem. I guess they think it’s ok to serve soggy Greasy Brussels sprouts. I took back the first batch of Brussels and went back thinking the other batch would be better, no… that wasn’t the case.

I have picked up lunch to go from here twice in the last 30 days or so. First experience– my boss wanted fried chicken so I thought of this place as somewhere new to try. I call and they don’t have any bone in chicken that day. Ummmmm what?! So I get her chicken fingers instead of the two piece chicken meal she wanted. Luckily, the food was amazing. The seasoning on the chicken is great. I had the crispy chicken sandwich, which is just two chicken fingers on a bun with some sauce– but it’s delicious! We also had the Brussel sprouts, mac n cheese and french fries– everything was great. Second experience– we ordered basically the same things we ordered the first time. However, the mac n cheese was bad– like they used bad cream or left it out too long or something, it tasted very off(two people ordered mac n cheese and both tasted sour!) Not sure that we will be ordering from here again anytime soon. :(

Why on earth would you change your menu if it was what your customers have come to expect?! I found this place over a year ago and it was incredible, brought my wife here quite a few times and she feel in love with it because she said the fried chicken was just like her grandmothers, who has long since passed. Haven’t been in for a couple of months and imagine how disappointing it was for her and I to see that the menu has completely changed and now they no longer offer fried chicken? The breading on the chicken is completely different and doesn’t have the same taste as the old recipe. The Mac & Cheese used to be different with the cracker crumbles, now it’s just like generic shells and cheese with parsley on top. Well Funky Chicken we had a good run. Don’t call me, I’ll call you. But not really.

Yuck! We hadn’t been to Funky Chicken for a few months. When we last went it was considered a «new» place to eat. Our first few experiences were great. We were totally down with the concept, which I believe is farm-raise organic chicken fried in what I thought were as healthy as possible oils. Last night’s meal was akin to a cafeteria meal. My chicken tenders were H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. I was able to tell my fingers were fried in re-used, very old oil, by the smell and taste alone before even biting into them. I’m not sure if the cook tried to mask this with over-seasoning the finger with paprika, but there was way too much seasoning on my chicken fingers. Biscuits weren’t as tasty as usual and tasted like water. Macaroni was good as usual, but it was served on the tray instead of in a cup like they used to. I don’t see this place being open much longer. The restaurant was completely empty, yet when we sat in the booth seat it was completely full of crumbs. Gross!

Food good. Menu selection limited. They serve beer! Very clean. The sauces I tried were tasty. Chicken and waffle was delicious. Place got my approval, will come back.

I visited this place because I heard they had delicious, hearty chicken dinners. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that they recently revised their menu and only serve chicken fingers, pot pies, and wings. I ordered the 3-strip combo that comes with fries, biscuit, and one side. The strips were tasty, but the best thing about my meal was the brussel sprouts. They were delicious. I also liked the selection of Main Root sodas. Service was good and the dining room is spacious and clean.

Easy to get to location, there is tons of parking in front. It’s a walk up and order place and they bring the food to you. It’s very open in there. I wasn’t too impressed with the sides, but I liked the gravy with the biscuits. The Chicken was good and the wings were good.

Several months ago while I was getting a mani/pedi at my fave spot, and my hubby walked around the area and spotted this establishment. This morning we had to drop off the dogs to get spruced up and be smell good pups. I was hungris and recommended that we go ahead and try the Funky Chicken. We failed to check out the time it opened when we looked at the menu online. Our bad. We spent 45 minutes driving around the Heights waiting for 11:00 o’click to hit so we could eat. The place was very clean. I was expecting the menu to be a bit more extensive, as my husband saw a mention of brunch and baked food items too. Perhaps our eyes deceived us. Not sure. I will say being a woman that does not typically eat fried foods, having other options would be very nice. We tried chicken fingers and wings. The coating on the chicken fingers was unlike any other. Extremely tasty. The size of the chicken fingers very generous. The sauce on the wings was nice and tangy. It was hot but not too hot or overpowering. The wings themselves could have been a might more crunchy. I do not like chicken skin. When it comes to wings, I deal with it because it is cooked nice and crispy. The wings underwhelemed me. One thing I found extremely unique was the soda served – Maine Root. It had very cute little names for each flavor that made me smile. I am glad that I tried it. Would I go back? Let me put it this way, on those days(and they happen often) when my husband asks me what I want to eat, I will not be saying let’s get some Funky Chicken. It was not bad, but there was nothing about it that will drive me to returning, especially since there is such a limited menu. Maybe that’s what they want to do is only have fried chicken and so be it. That’s just not the type of place for me. I want to have more health conscious choices. Would I recommend it to a friend? I would probably say if you want to try unique fried chicken give it a go. Do not expect to have anything but fried options and don’t bother with the wings. Halley puppy takes a nap on this one.

How excited was I when I looked out on my balcony to see a chicken joint right there! But after giving it a try, I am truly disappointed. First off, Unilocal has photos of fried chicken, which has been discontinued at this establishment. What a calamity, a placed called funky chicken with no fried chicken. I then proceeded to order chicken tenders off the menu with accompanying sides of mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Chicken was very dry and overall the meal was extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. Not to mention it took 20 minutes for my order to come out because they are also understaffed. Anytime someones looks out my apartment window and asks about the Funky Chicken, I will honestly advise them to stay away and check out the other fast food joints right there.

Nothing special about this place. The wings taste like any other wings I can buy from the grocery and can heat it up myself. I guess their specialty is the chicken? How can you be a chicken place and sell mediocre chicken wings? Fries tasted like normal fries and the mac&cheese tasted fine. If you don’t see anyone eating there when you first come in, it’s a big indication that the food isn’t that great.

Whoever owns this place must not taste the food. What an awful excuse for wings, cole claw and mashed potatoes. After waiting 32 mins for my to-go order I got home and opened a box of the most unappetizing wings I’ve ever seen! They were soggy, flavorless and looked nothing like the pictures up on the screen. Funky chicken please go away

I am sitting in the restaurant now writing the review. I was here once before when it opened and thought it ok. I was craving fried chicken and thought why not. This place is dreadful. I mean dreadfully bad. I have to agree with one reviewer on that what does changing the menu from fried chicken to fingers and wings have anything to do with the seasons? I scraped most of the breading off the flavorless fingers and tried to eat the flavorless meat. The macaroni and cheese was a little pool of grease while the French fries were barely cooked. And cream gravies?! Both the gluten free and full leaded were the worst versions I’ve ever tried. Do not make a trip here. It’s not expensive, but price has nothing to do with it. I cannot, truly cannot believe Bradley Ogden is behind this concept. In years gone by I would make a yearly pilgrimage to his eponymous Marin County restaurant The Lark Creek Inn and it was always a revelation. Funky Chicken on the other hand is a sad awful and again dreadful option for any meal, and his reputation.

Why is everyone bashing this place!!! Funky chicken is the best. Ditch that nasty Canes fast food and come here. It’s SO filling! I was really sad that they took some menu items down. Their ribs were absolutely amazing. Screw all of you for complaining. Super relaxed, cute place. I didn’t put 5 star because it’s a biiiit over priced. But it’s fresh as hell and you’ll be going to bed after being stuffed here.

Alright. What’s with all the 1 stars folks? We had lunch here today smack dab in the middle of lunch rush. This place was maybe at 25% capacity which was nice for us seeking a relaxing lunch. This was our first time here. The price is good. There are many items(most) for under $ 10., so all you quit complaining about price. This ain’t KFC or Piepie’s. The service here is great. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable with the menu which is apparently new. They mainly serve chicken fingers and wings, but they serve a lot of other stuff well too. We had the family combo and substituted mac n cheese instead of fries. Everything was amazing. The chicken, Cole slaw, biscuits, and oh my gosh their sodas are the best. Some organic grape soda shit was delicious. We will for sure be back.

I really liked Funky Chicken until I went this afternoon at 3:30 and was served dried-out crap from lunch. The chicken, the rib, and the quinoa were all old and gross. And me, a multi-times-per-week repeat customer they are familiar with. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt.
