The food is reasonably priced and good enough for a sushi place in this area. I have been there a couple of times during lunch on weekdays. However, I had to take a later lunch and walked in at about 2:10. I didn’t realize that the restaurant closes at 2:30 and won’t open back up again until dinner. I was told this by the waitress in a very annoyed tone. I would have left if I was inconveniencing them that much. The kitchen staff and everyone else seemed nice. It was just this waitress that made me feel unwelcomed. I quickly scarfed down my meal. I was probably in there a total of 20 minutes. At least I wasn’t alone. Another group table came in behind me and they were given the same hurried treatment by the waitress. I don’t think I will be coming back even if the food is good.

Food is definitely delicious!!! Will be coming back. My wife and I had: Matsu roll, Nemo roll and Rainbow roll. I ordered a spicy chopped scallop hand roll, I have had better but it was decent. My only problem is service it took her about 8 minutes to get our initial order. After that we ordered everything just so it all comes out.

Matsu sushi is a small sushi store right off of eldridge and briar forest. My boyfriend and I ordered the Matsu roll, Matsu tartar, a yellowtail handroll, and the tonaktsu which came with a salad, a bowl of miso soup, and a roll of sushi. You get to pick the roll that comes with the tonaktsu off of the sushi roll side of the menu, but some higher priced rolls are off limits. The waitress will let you know what you can and can’t order. She was really nice and polite when it came to answering my questions about which sushi roll I could pick. My boyfriend really liked the matsu roll, and out of the items we ordered, that was my favorite too. It was ~$ 12, which was the same price as the Matsu tartar. The matsu tartar was good, but a really small portion, so considering that it was the same price as the matsu roll, I should’ve probably ordered two of those instead. Guess I should’ve expected that though since it was on the app side of the menu. The tonaktsu was good and since it came with another roll of sushi, it was the most bang for my buck. Not sure how the yellow tail handroll was since my boyfriend ate it, but it was adequately stuffed with yellow tail. Overall, the food and service was great, but the food was a bit pricey.

Cute place with fast, attentive service. The menu could use a little more variety, as they seem to be catering to the men of the energy corridor. Most of the rolls are very«Texan»(either containing fried tempura or cream cheese or both), so if you’re into that sort of thing, it’s fantastic. The sashimi is fresh, the sake is on point and the atmosphere is perfectly casual for a weeknight dinner.

–1 Star: When it was time to pay, I displayed my Groupon on my phone. Waitress came over to grab our check, I informed her that I had a Groupon. She was nice about it and immediately marked redeemed. However, she continued to stare at the Groupon. After a while, she told us that our Groupon had expired. I told her that today is October 16 and the Groupon expires on October 16 and that it is not expired yet until tomorrow. She then went back to her register and came back to tell us that I was correct. Prices were also higher compared to other places. +4 Stars: Every dish we had was delicious. The sushi was extremely fresh, especially the scallop roll. Omg, that scallop roll. It was flavorful, scallop was sweet yet savory, and melts in your mouth. The Jalapeño Bomb was also very tasty, fried but not oily. We also had the Sun Rise roll, Crunchy roll, Pheonix roll, and the calamari. All were above mediocre.

Matsu reminded me of my time in Tokyo which is definitely a good thing. Located in a shopping mall in the Energy Corridor, Matsu is a small restaurant with some bar seating where the chefs make sushi and several sit-down tables. I had a Groupon so I went with the chicken kasagte(probably butchered that spelling) which is Japanese chicken tenders with a nice sweet sauce. Good stuff. For my entrée, I went with the chicken teriyaki which comes with rice, miso soup, salad and your choice of roll. I had the crunchy roll which is tempura shrimp with mayo. Without the roll, the dish wouldn’t have had a lot of food but when you combine everything it’s quite a bit. The teriyaki sauce was fantastic, some of the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was really friendly just a bit slow because she was the only waitress there. Not her fault but they should have a second waitress during peak dinner hours at least.

I went to Matsu Sushi Bar for lunch on a Friday afternoon with some colleagues. We chose this place because it had the highest rating for sushi in the area. I looked over their lunch menu and chose«L. Today Lunch Sushi Special» for $ 12.95. This came with a miso soup and was composed of 4 pieces of sushi and a house special roll for the day. Overall, the sushi was fine, but the service was severely lacking. Granted, they were a bit busy for lunch, but they only had one waitress for the entire place. She was running around from table to table, and we were left twiddling our thumbs trying to pay for our food. I understand it’s not her fault, but they need to hire more people or give more duties to some of their other employees. There are many other sushi restaurants in the area, so I will be exploring the others for now. This place isn’t bad, but it’s nothing special. Pros: –Private parking lot Cons: –Service is slow(hire more people)

I have been here 3 times and enjoyed it each time. I normally get the California rolls with eel sauce and I love it. I will definitely keep coming back here. It’s hidden, but worth a try.

We’re just moving to Houston from Asia. Everywhere we go we always try Japanese food! We’ve been here twice, even the second time is 10 minutes before they closed! They are still welcoming us! First time we came we saw some Japanese family eating as well that’s mean a good sign. And that’s true! Sushi and sashimi that we order is exactly«normal size» of sushi in Asia we usually eat. Because some of other restaurant here is making bigger roll than normal as we understand people here seems having a big portion, really? The first came is very good makes us coming back for the second time and they’re still very good!!! I think the taste of nigiri and sashimi everywhere are the same, so when we came to the sushi restaurant what we looked is how they wrap the roll and how fresh the ingredient is. And they met everything we want. The sushi wrap nicely in the normal size and sashimi also always fresh and nice! Some of my salmon doesn’t cut properly like 5 star hotel but I’m not that fussy as long as they are all fresh and thick!!! And tuna/maguro sashimi was also fresh and nice! Matsu bar is like normally what sushi bar in Asia looks like for a quick, clean and affordable food you can find in highstreet. This is how Japanese making their fast food. Very healthy huh? :))))

This is a great place tucked away in a nondescript strip center. I’ve been here 3 – 4 times, and they’re never packed, and often my table is the only one in the restaurant. However, they stay busy with carry-out orders and deliveries. The sushi here is always fresh and made with high quality ingredients. I always enjoy the jalepeno bombs, and the 212 °F roll is amazing! It’s super refreshing and packed with flavor. I’ve never had a bad experience here, and highly recommend it. :)

Iv’e been eating sushi in Houston since 96′, sometimes up to three times a week. This is my rating system for the sushi joints around town. 1 2 Would recommend to enemies 3 Wont go back 4 Would only go if a VERY attractive date wanted to 5 Will do in a pinch 6 Good value 7 Well rounded sushi experience 8 Every piece was fresh. No average or sub-par fish 9 Destination sushi. I would drive 30 mins to get here 10 Among my personal best experiences Matsu is another 6.5 on my sushi joint scale. It;s small and cozy with a tv behind the bar. Used a Groupon and would probably return if in the area. Very friendly chefs and waitstaff. The nigiri really was the best part of the experience. Nice and fresh. Nigiri prices seemed a little high other wise may have been a 4 star. Philly Roll: Pretty cheesy but overall ok You can really taste the cream cheese over the salmon and avocado. C+ Summer Roll: Salmon, Kani, Avocado topped with Tuna. Rice-less roll advertised behind the bar. Fresh fish and not overdone with sauce/crunch. Rolled with pink rice paper. A nice change to the usual. B+ Volcano Scallop: A little messy and over sauced with a little too much crunch. It would be nicer if they kept it simple. The salmon and crab flavor gets washed out a little and I barely noticed the scallop. C Four Piece Salmon: Fresh Salmon is easy to find. Hard to pull an «A». B Two Piece Mackerel: Wow! On the other hand good Mackerel is not an easy find. This was good stuff. A Four piece Yellow Tail: Not the cut of Yellow Tail I prefer but still good. B+

Menu is simple, very fast service, and sashimi pieces are reasonable. I also had the rock and roll hand roll. The shrimp tempura was not overcooked. I’d go here for lunch again.

First of all: do not serve food on a chipped plate/bowl. Our first dish was served on a chipped bowl and that made me raise my eye brow. One star lost. Second of all: need to do something to keep the ingredients fresh. All of our rolls are not fresh at all. This is unacceptable because sushi first requirement is FRESH ingredients. Or I wonder is it because of happy hour, with discounted price, they are allowed to served whatever they have on hand for customer? And the rolls were not tight at all, when i picked it up with chopsticks, they started falling apart. Hmm. Two stars lost. Third of all: However, they are saved by the nice server guy who did a good job on our dinner. I don’t know what his name is, but I know he’s Vietnamese. And because of this, I give them back 1 star.

One of the worst sushi place i have ever tried. I would never never come back in any chance. My friend and I ordered rocket roll, 212 roll and flaming dragon roll. They all were nasty. The rice wasn’t soft Fish wasn’t fresh Ginger sauce was very mediocre. Service was as bad as the food. Our waiter(the only one in the restaurant during lunch time) was extremely slow and even made a wrong order for us.

I came in here on a Wednesday around 2pm about 30 min before they closed. I know on Unilocal it says they close at 2pm but that is incorrect! The customer service was awesome! Everyone was very friendly and patient. We were the only ones in there which was a plus. It was very quiet and peaceful. Okay now on to the food: I got the Beef Bulgogi bento box & I’am glad I did! For about $ 11, you get a lot. The beef was very flavorful and well cooked and also the dumplings. I didn’t get to try the 3 pieces of sushi it came with because I was full! But my bf said it was really good as well. You get more than what you pay for here in my opinion. I found my new favorite spot to come to when I’m craving Asian food.

AKA was packed so I came here since it was close by, and overall was just okay with the place. Service: 5⁄5 they’re super nice, and I came here a little bit before closing time when they were getting ready to close. Instead of being rude about it, they were extremely welcoming and enthusiastic. The lady behind the counter who i presume is the owner? was so nice, asking if everything was enjoyable at the end of my meal and it’s just very refreshing. Food: the food was fresh but my only gripe? the portion size. Their prices are on par with just about every other sushi restaurant in the energy corridor. My group and I ordered a sashimi platter, fried calamari, the volcano scallop, a volcano roll and some other nigiri. Portions of the sashimi were dinky. While the quality was good, I can’t justify the price tag that came with it. We left undersatisfied :(
