Recently came back with some friends finally. We luckily got a table for the same day at 10:00 p. m and it was great as usual. I didn’t get to order anything, but pretty much everything was great. Service is always great as well. There were a few items I don’t remember the names of, but heres a list of the different things I had this time: –Truffle Aioli Fresh Salmon —(5⁄5) Had this again, fresh buttery tasting fish with truffle aioli. Good lord, 3 great ingredients placed into one bite. –Baked Lobster Tempura —(3⁄5) This is a typical baked dish just like baked mussels. It was more saltier than my usual preference(probably better with rice, am I too asian?) –Avocado Ball(w/spicy tuna & truffle mousse) —(5⁄5) I love avocado! This dish was super creamy due to the mousse and avocado combined, still a wonderful combination, tuna was fresh as well. –Signature Nigiri; Madai —(5⁄5) Japanese snapper with ponzu sauce, scallions, & konzuri. You can’t fail with Madai here, it’s the best Madai I’ve had compared to the other sushi restaurants. –Signature Nigiri; Kampachi(5⁄5) Japanese amberjack with lime zest, yuzu, & himalayan rock salt, surprisingly wonderful. I usually don’t like amberjack because its usually too fishy for me, but you have to get this. Super delish, you can taste the himalayan salt from the himalayas!(lol) –Signature Nigiri; Shima Aji(5⁄5) Japanese skip jack with lemon juice & shiso oil, wonderful fish, citrusy, must get! All the sashimi was great; it twas a great meal indeed. Must come back and eat MOAR!

Came here before the new location opened, food was pretty decent. But I’m absolutely in love with the new locations décor! The food yes was phenomenal as well. We ordered all of the specialty nigiri and a couple cold appetizers and have to say. It’s one of the best sushi spots in Houston. Yes it is expensive and yes it is worth it haha always reserve a spot at the sushi bar when able. The chef preparing sushi is a show itself

MF Sushi is perfect to fit the role that Houston lacks: a high-ended Japanese restaurant that serves traditional cuisine with light modern inspiration, which is a huge contrast to its fusion counterparts Kata Robata and Uchi. To serve traditional sushi at high-ended prices is a risky move especially in the city where cheap traditional sushi is prevalent, and yet MF Sushi not only survives but also thrives because of its insistence in high quality food. If you have never tasted a high-ended sushi experience, MF Sushi will show you why you should pay extra for sushi! For a civilian like me, MF stood out to me because of its high price range: a party of four ate $ 100(including tip and tax) worth of sushi which was a combination of two appetizers and four specialty rolls. Although on surface it’s a little steep, I thought the food was worth every cent! Especially the specialty rolls was the most prominent proof, because while other places serve rolls doused in sauces, MF Sushi boldly places the ingredients up in front with only light sauce and seasonings. The result was not only a honest testament to the quality but also a clear view of the excellent combinations of flavors that the chefs have composed! Those rolls are one of the best maki rolls I have ever had. If you are curious about the restaurant’s famous omakase — the multi-course sushi meal decided by the chef — it can vary between $ 150 – 200 per person based on the day’s fish supply and requires a reservation. Of course, you don’t have to go big… or at least yet. Prices in normal menu can be a bit high, but I can ensure you that it’s really worth it and I highly recommend trying out MF Sushi at least once. You don’t have to go directly to the omakase to see why MF Sushi is so good. – tl;dr version: 1) Rare high-end Japanese restaurant worthy of its rep and price range 2) «Unconventionally traditional» maki rolls that emphasize on the materials 3) $ 150 – 200 omakase but not required to enjoy MF Sushi

If I were a sushi person, I would have given it a 4 star rating. The restaurant is a small but modern. I like the ambience and the service is good. I would bring my sushi lover friend the next time I am in the area.

My favorite sushi place in Houston hands down! I’ve had both the omakase with Chef Kinjo and the normal dinner menus. I’ve never had omakase elsewhere so I’m not completely sure how long the entire process should be. I believe my reservation was at 7/7:30 but we didn’t get out until 10:00/10:30. It was phenomenal, but the wait between each dish was kind of long and dreadful(because I came starving). Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why it takes so long because these chefs aren’t just rushing through to provide you with a quality omakase experience(omakase guests are seated right at the sushi bar for a full and engaging experience). But I never imagined it’d be over two hours. Again, food was great though 10⁄10. A little detail that bothered me was that when we were seated, the host told us a different range for the pricing than what we were charged at the end of the meal. Meh? The normal menus are awesome too. Everything is great seriously. I love how they incorporate truffle oil into a lot of the nigiri pieces. I could probably spend over $ 200 eating here by myself if I would let myself. That being said, don’t expect the amazing food to fit the price range of for example Hokkaido out in Chinatown. You pay for what you get. Love the ambience and décor. Their bathrooms are kinda cool. There is free parking in the lot but during dinner it’s usually pretty packed. They offer valet parking too.

This is it. MF Sushi is the place to go to for delicious traditional sushi with a beautiful atmosphere in the city. Yes, I have my go-to Japanese/Japanese inspired places, but I cannot go as far to say that it is better or not better than these places. I order different dishes at these places so I cannot compare them at the same level! Make a reservation! Also, I hear that if you decide to do omakase, you have to let them know when you make reservations in advance so the chefs can be prepared for it. The seating area includes the sushi bar, small tables of 2 – 4 and booths. The décor and atmosphere is absolutely spectacular. It is modern and feels like a 5 star hotel lobby. Another plus, especially for those who like to take photos of their food, is the lighting. It’s dim, but each table has its own light that is perfect to capture photos. I sometimes find that I struggle to take good sushi photos at other places because it’s so dark and I’m embarrassed to set off my flash in a nice place. Does anyone else ever feel this way?! Service: excellent! Taka was our server and was very attentive and knew the menu very well, so he offered some great options. Thank you! Food and drinks: Lychee martini: delicious! It is lychee purée with peach and vodka with a single lychee. Spicy Tuna Tartar: packed with flavor! It had a quail egg on top that was so cute. Spicy Tuna Osaka box style special roll: great choice for those who like spicy tuna and salmon Negi Salmon special roll: probably my favorite roll! It has yellowtail, tuna and avocado. Sounds like a simple roll, but it has great flavor. Soft Shell Crab special roll: soft shell crab wrapped with lettuce, carrots, cucumber, and light mayo. The middle pieces were okay since the ratio of soft shell crab to lettuce was low, but the end pieces were good! Sake Sashimi: comes in 4 pieces. This literally melted in my mouth. Amazing. Blue Fin Tuna roll: also great flavor for a simple roll Mochi ice cream: they offered 4 flavors(I’m not sure if this changes) and you can choose 2. We tried the mango and pistachio — it was so good! Overall, I was impressed and very satisfied with my experience here. I am already planning to come back soon!

Have you ever had a meal that you never wanted to end? This was one of those experiences for me! Uchi has been officially dethroned. If Uchi is a 5 star then this place should be a 6!!! Every intricate detail in preparation and execution were flawless. The ambiance is very modern yet cozy at the same time. The sushi chefs, including the owner — Chris Kinjo(aka Magic Fingers) — put on a show for you as they create your bites of perfection. There is a wide range of high quality sake, filtered and unfiltered, to choose from. Everything is a must-have. The tuna sampler was out of this world, it tasted like butter. The unagi, the live octopus, the wagyu beef nigiri were all phenomenal. Even the mochi was amazing — best I ever had. I want to go back right now. If you love sushi, this place should be on your bucket list!

The«MF» stands for«Magic Fingers», but for me it stands for M**** F***** best sushi I’ve ever had in my life! I say«Oh my goodness…» after every.single.bite. Chris Kinjo is obviously a top master at his craft, ceremoniously dancing with each piece of raw fish after slicing it with his $ 1000 knife. With his skillful team, you will have one of the most memorable gastronomic experiences by sitting at the sushi bar and just saying one word: omakase. I could list all the items I’ve had here, but honestly, nothing has disappointed my taste buds. Black cod is my new favorite fish — as long as it’s from here! Their tuna sampler is like butter! The torched wagyu beef with truffles… No words to describe. The mochi, imported from Hawaii, is the best I’ve ever had — every flavor is perfection! The«Snow Maiden» Nigori is a silky, unfiltered sake served cold. This is a creamy, semi-sweet dream! The Okunomatsu Daiginjo is worth trying if you want something refined and balanced. Their lychee martini and Kumamoto mule are excellent! This place should NOT be compared to Uchi strictly because it is in line with the more traditional Japanese sushi/sashimi/nigiri, as opposed to Uchi’s modern twist on Japanese fusion. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

I love MF Sushi!(MF Sushi stands for Magic Fingers Sushi) I never heard of this restaurant until now but apparently it’s somewhat new. My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday 3 days earlier here and it was perfect. The restaurant is very classy and chic! My boyfriend book reservation and we showed up on time. FYI, if you book reservation, you have a 20 min grace period before you loose your table. The service was fantastic! Our waiter was hospitable and at same time very funny. He kept the night filled with laughter and great food! Below is a list of drinks and food that we ordered: Drinks: Belstar Prosecco Lychee Martini Both of these drinks were very delicious. Food: Miso Soup — I always love having Miso Soup before eating sushi and they had delicious miso soup. Salmon Skin Roll Eel Roll Crab Tempura Roll These 3 rolls are all very buttery and full flavors. I definitely recommend these if you love salmon, eel and crab. The fishes were very tender and it basically blended itself together once you start chewing. You taste everything at once but at the same time you can make out everyone of it’s ingredient. Sking Salmon Sashimi Unagi Sashimi Again I love salmon and eel so I always order these at every sushi restaurant I go to. MF Sushi doesn’t disappoint! Their sashimi is tender and soft so I very satisfied with it’s texture. Oyster Shooter — This was my favorite dish of the night! I don’t go out and eat oyster a lot but I do like to experiment. The oyster shooter they presented to me was not only beautiful but it was beyond delicious! So many different texture, so many flavors … it was SOGOOD. It was sweet, sour, spicy and then sweet again… all in one gulp! I already made reservations for February on Valentines day! My boyfriend and I will be looking forward to the Omakase! Thank you so much for making my birthday special!

This is one of the most amazing sushi restaurants I have ever been to. We shared five dishes and ordered a few pieces of nigiri. The soft shell crab tempura was perfection. The hamachi appetizer was another standout, with the perfect amount of spice. We also had the blue fin tuna appetizer that literally melted in my mouth. The Negi Salmon roll was generously portioned and prepared beautifully. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It’s better than Uchi and I am already planning my next visit. The Ancho cocktail is divine, a great way to start an outstanding meal.

One word: Wow. I thought Uchi the best sushi place in the world. But MF sushi definitely beat them in my opinion(I’m sorry Uchi, I still love y’all though.) I like to thank Unilocal and MF sushi’s reviews and photos for introducing me this is fine establishment. I wouldn’t have found this place if it weren’t for Unilocal and it’s mixed reviews. But back to my experience here. So my boyfriend and I decided to go on a Saturday night without reservations, because we’re reckless like that and just decided to wing it. But we just ended up getting sat right away anyways. The interior of this place was contemporary, very modern style. It was nice. Never seen anything so fancy in my life. The sushi bar is very unique was well. It’s a flat surface so you can see what the sushi chefs are making. I’m assuming the sushi bar is omakase only since I asked if we can sit at the sushi bar and they said it’s been reserved so they only have tables. But it’s okay, I still enjoyed the view of the sushi bar from where we were sitting. It was our first time here we were lost so we got alittle help from our server. We just ended up getting what we usually get at other sushi places but he recommended to try their signature sushi and we got the SIGNATURE sake, maguro, hamachi, kampachi, and A5 Wagyu beef. I’m telling you, it’s essential to order these! You won’t regret it. Dining here was a great experience. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes!

MF Sushi is «da bomb». It’s traditional Japanese sushi by well known chef Chris Kinjo. His nickname is «Magic Fingers», hence the MF in «MF Sushi». And magic fingers he has, just whipping out the delectable sushi as fast as he can. He also has 4 other sushi chefs helping him out. The décor is modern and hip, and there’s soft contemporary music in the background. Much of the dinner ware is made in Japan. There was good, moderate priced sake, which was interestingly served cold. Salmon with truffle aioli was delicious. The special rolls, which included the A5 Waygu beef roll and the spicy tuna roll were yummy. There’s a stunning backdrop of the mountains in Japan behind the sushi bar. There was even marble and bonsai in the restroom. It’s too bad I don’t have an unlimited bank account otherwise I would eat here every night. Definitely one of the top sushi places in Houston.

ermagawd. that’s how i feel about my dining experience here. I tried MF when it was at a smaller location on Westheimer and didn’t think much of it. However, trying it this time around was a revelation. We stayed away from the rolls and stuck mostly to their nigiri/sashimi choices. Can I just say… the fish is SOFRESH! Everything just tasted clean, as if it was caught right before it hit our table. My favorites: — LIVEUNI! Soooooo good! The quality of the uni was superb. You could taste the rich and sweet texture that all uni should be modeled after. — Truffle Aioli Salon. Holy. Crap. I split this in half just so I could make it last longer. It’s like buttery goodness all up in your mouth. — MF Signature Nigiri. Pretty much ANYTHING on this menu was incredible. You can tell they pull a lot of thought into each piece. Your dinner can get pricey quick and I don’t recommend coming here if you’re looking for rolls. This place is best appreciated by sushi snobs and genuine fresh fish lovers(which I’m completely guilty of being). If you consider yourself a true sushi connoisseur, this place is your holy grail.

Ok, ok. So I cheated on NYC a little. I flew back to my hometown and found a sushi place that might be on par with SoHo restaurants. The flashy people, the Triniti-design, the«sushi bar stage,» the boys and girls in plaid shirts. Forgive me, Houston. It was for a special and good cause. I had visited the previous location on Westheimer, and man, what an upgrade. Now that MF Sushi is conveniently located next to the Children’s Museum, I noted that I’d like to come here and relieve some stress with lychee martinis if I ever have kids to take to the museum. Also, Lucille’s is next door if spicy tuna doesn’t fill you up enough and you want to sneak out for some southern cooking. Ahem. I made a reservation to celebrate and congratulate a friend. We were seated at 8:30pm at a nice table, and when we requested to move to the sushi bar they were happy to transition us over. What a great decision. Chris Kinjo was in the house, grinning and massaging fish like the rest of us. We even watched him wrestle one of the other sushi chefs(Chris won). The lighting was phenomenal. Thomas took care of us all night — he was hilarious, knowledgeable, and clearly loved his job. Regrettably, there were many things on the menu that the house had already run out of by the time we ate(no uni?!) but the service and food made up for it. Some stellar standouts include the only anago nigiri that I’ve ever liked, the avocado balls(when the piece of paper says«truffle mousse,» you order it), and the wagyu beef aburi. And ooooooh, toro. Get it? Looking forward to hopefully coming back and trying the omakase. I hope Houston makes better luck for this location of MF Sushi, as it surely deserves its ranking as one of the best sushi restaurants in town.

Meh. Honestly that’s how I feel about this place. Came here with a couple people and didn’t know how to order. The waiter recommends the chefs tasting menu. «About 120 per person» he said. Sounds good and expensive but good. After many courses later and maybe 5 drinks between us the bill comes. Over 600 bucks. I was super mad about this but because of the company I didn’t say much. But let’s cover a few things. The portions were SMALL.(I realize the irony of big letters for the word small). The fish was okay. They were dressed alright but man for that much I should have left going«damn that was delicious». I left saying«damn that was expensive and I would have rather had grocery store sushi». Honestly the hype behind here isn’t all that. There are much better restaurants around that are way more affordable. The restaurant does have some good drinks. I’ll give them that. And the décor is nice and clean. But the food? 2.5−3 stars. Never. Ever. Again. Will I eat here.

It was my friends birthday, and she loves sushi, so my other friend and I decided to take her to MF sushi. And it was the best choice we could have made! We decided to do the tasting menu, which consisted of 5 courses. 2 of those courses were served to us individually, instead of community, and we were more than stuffed when we left! We did find out once we were already there that the tasting menu is apparently more enjoyable if you sit at the sushi bar itself, since you can see the chefs preparing all the food by hand right in front of you. But that didn’t spoil our experience one bit. We ended up with 12 different plates of «tastings». The first course was an amberjack carpaccio, the 2nd an alaskan king salmon, 3rd: lobster tempura, 4th: red snapper nigiri, 5th: japanese amberjack nigiri, 6th: japanese skipjack, 7th: a mix of 3 different fish-yellowtail belly, mackerel belly, and ocean trout belly, 8th: 5 different cuts of tuna, 9th: wagyu beef, 10th: yellowtail cheek, 11th: duck breast, and 12: mochi ice cream(1 chocolate coconut, 1 mango, and 1 guava). Every single dish we had was to die for! It all tasted immensely fresh and light! The wagyu beef even tasted like a burger when eating it(which may sound weird-but I promise is a good thing and worth having!). Our meal as a whole was quite pricey, and even not doing the tasting menu, the prices are a little high. But this place is worth every penny! We had a delightful waiter, who was very well-versed in all the foods we had an answered every single question we may have had without skipping a beat. The ambience of the restaurant also added to the quailty-a very modern theme while still feeling«at home». I would go back to this place in a heartbeat! The tasting menu changes depending on what’s in season, so I doubt I’d ever have the same thing twice.(And, if i did, I wouldn’t mind one bit). If you want great sushi and top-notch quality, MF sushi is the place to go!(And I have been to Uchi twice, but I still stand by my statement. The quantity you get is way more bang for your buck here. And the quality of the fish couldn’t get any better!)

Came here last weekend for my little brothers birthday with some of our friends. I only gave a 3 star for now, as I didn’t get to do the omakase MF is known for :( Food: We all ordered various things and sampled off each others orders as well. Ordered the Miso soup with shiitake mushrooms. I know, I know. who orders Miso soup at a restaurant? Ehh. Tastes like any other miso soup, not worth the $ 4 but… I was feeling a bit under the weather that day and soup sounded nice. Don’t judge me. Baked Mussels — just okay. But I’m really picky about my baked mussels. Lobster Tempura –YUM! Would highly recommend. Salmon tataki — Lightly seared salmon with ponzu sauce drizzled on top. Simple and tasty but not entirely unique or special. Sake(salmon) — Probably my favorite of the Nigiri I tried. Mostly because the aioli that was placed on top. Shima Aji(skip jack) — not bad, but doesn’t really stand out flavor wise to me as i’m sitting here writing this. Hamachi(yellowtail) — was seared which I wasn’t aware of otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered it. Spicy Tuna Osaka Box Style Roll — MEH. Bland. Fish was fresh, yes. But really didn’t care for it. Probably should have ordered something else. Don’t recommedn. Duck Breast — Probably my favorite part of the meal. Duck breast is slowly cooked over coals in front of you in a mini robata. Cute. Aside from the cute factor, the duck breast was tender and juicy. The light glaze on it was AMAZING. They had run out of the Amaebi that night as well as the live uni. Boo hiss. Had their take on a Moscow Mule, I forget what they called it. DELICIOUS. Definitely gingery. Service: our server was so nice and attentive. Catering to a party of 9, she was always on top of everything. She even overheard my brother ask if I needed any eel sauce, and without even asking, voila. Will definitely be back to do the Omakase and hope to give it the 5 stars I know it’s capable of.

So I’ve heard really good things about this place and turns out everything is true! The service was quick and tentative. The place itself has a really cool vibe. Looks small but can seat many. First of all they have LIVEUNI. Hard to come by in Houston. It was so fresh and just melted on your tongue. My friend and I did the Omakase(basically where the waiter and sushi chef make a tasting for you). I was hesitant at first but I figure why not — they know what they’re doing. If you give them a budget they’ll work with it and go from there. We had a lot of different items but to name some of my favorites: Applewood Salmon OToro Ama Ebi A5 wagyu beef Marinated Japanese black cod Some of the pieces had this truffle oil which really compliment well. I had the Ancho as a drink. I forgot what was in it but if you like a nice spicy kick — get this! Definitely recommend this place. On par with Uchi if not better!

MF Sushi is such a superb addition in the museum district. If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese restaurant, it would be here. Call for reservations! MF Sushi will be a 5 star dining experience. I’ll mention that you might have a wait even with reservations. My companion and I waited an additional 10 minutes after our reservation time, which wasn’t bad. Parking options are complimentary valet and private lot. Upscale décor that is modern, chic, and welcoming. Once you enter the restaurant at the far left door, you are greeted by the waitress on your left. There is a full bar to your right. There is seating available in the walk-in area and at the bar. However, I would try to dine in the inner, main area or at the 14-seat sushi bar. I really liked the backdrop of the sushi bar. First timer? Not sure about the menu? When in doubt, choose Chef Kinjo’s omakase meal. Table side or sushi bar. Order it and put your worries aside… let the itamae-san take control. Hai, our waiter, was knowledgeable and great throughout. He explained that the food will be continually served until you say«no». I’m not sure what the maximum is, but my companion and I stopped after lucky #7. We never used soy sauce because it just never crossed my mind. Everything was perfectly seasoned, but wasabi was slightly used on one occasion. 1. Mozuku Salad(4⁄5): Okinawan seaweed salad. This cold salad tasted like Korean naengmyun… Except 10x more slimy and wasn’t from the yolk. I wasn’t sure if I enjoyed the texture of this but tasted fantastic. It’s supposedly one of the most healthiest dishes MF sushi offers and is light on the stomach. 2. Fresh Salmon Truffle Aioli(3⁄5): Nikiri sauce and shiso oil with cherry tomatoes. Great for a bar appetizer. 4 pieces of salmon. I wasn’t extremely blown away, but the aioli added the missing touch. Can’t really go wrong with this. 3. Baked Green Mussels(5⁄5): Baked in Japanese mayo, eel sauce, masago, and scallion. My mother makes this and whatever reminds of home is always a win. My companion agreed that this was his favorite when compared to the first two dishes we tried. You get a miniature spoon to pick these goodies up with. The five mussels are packed with flavor and goes well with eel sauce and masago. 4. I preferred the Shima Aji than the Hamachi. Everything just melted in your mouth. Sake was our favorite from this plate. Shima Aji(4⁄5): Japanese skip jack with lemon juice and shiso oil Sake(5⁄5): Fresh salmon with aioli sauce, truffle soy, black pepper and caviar Hamachi(4⁄5): Japanese yellowtail seared with truffle soy, black pepper 5. Delicious. That’s all. I didn’t expect to enjoy Otoro that much but did. Blue Fin Tuna(5⁄5): Toro Tuna(5⁄5): Fatty tuna Chutoro Tuna(5⁄5): Medium fatty tuna Otoro Tuna(5⁄5): Super fatty tuna with serrano pepper, dijon mustard, and caviar with truffle soy 6. Lobster Tempura Roll(3⁄5): Topped with shrimp and eel sauce. I wasn’t too thrilled about this, especially the temperature of the roll. It was pretty warm which threw me off. It was decent and had to use wasabi for this. Would I order it again? Nope. 7. Duck Breast(4⁄5): Marinated with miso yaki topped with scallions on a hoba leaf. Presentation was wonderful and steamy from the coal. We had to wait about a minute before we indulged into the duck. Very tender with fatty meat in a few of the pieces. Every now and then, I would hear a loud chuckle and would find myself glancing at a chef with a distinct, handlebar mustache. Little did I know that I was looking at Chef Kinjo. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I will be back ASAP. Food is beyond description.

To be honest, my motivation to write reviews is waning because I’m ready to say sayonara to Houston. But my meal at MF Sushi was Muh-Fckin delicious, and totally brag-worthy on Unilocal.I’d had omakase at the original MF, but Chris Kinjo was on hiatus. Now he’s back at the new Museum District location to reclaim his throne as the Master(sushi) Chef in town. I had to get in on it. The 12 seat sushi bar was completely full on a Saturday night, so make a reservation. It’s really a unique experience watching Kinjo and his team of apprentices work so swiftly and skillfully. He slices fish with ease and precision using a knife worth 1 G, and his handlebar mustache is fcking badass. He deffo makes me feel some type of way. The work station is also kept meticulously spotless; the chefs reflexively wipe down the area in between every dish. Omakase is about $ 150 per person, and what you get varies from 18 — 22 courses. Yea, that’s a LOT of food. My favorites were the wagyu beef(beautifully marbled), otoro nigiri(so fatty), and the king salmon belly(melts in your mouth like M&Ms). I wanted to stop several times, but the subsequent dish always sounded too enticing. I finally threw in the towel after the 18th course, because I didn’t think anything would top the live uni. Halfway through, I did have to request that they exclude wasabi in my dishes because it was burning my face off. It did clear up my sinuses though; can’t be mad about that. As muh-fckin’ amazin’ as this meal was, I was most impressed by the Asian family seated next to me. The 2 young boys ate every plate of foreign and squishy substance served to them. I would kill to have had that palate as a 7 year old, when my parents took me to Japan and I turned my nose at sashimi for imitation crab meat. So there’s a bit of debate surrounding Kinjo’s ethnic background– is he Japanese or Vietnamese or both? But it’s inconsequential to me– I saw the man torch a piece of wagyu beef on his BAREHANDS. I highly recommend the omakase experience for fresh seafood presented inventively and executed flawlessly.

We had a late dinner at MF Sushi. Parking is good and we sat at the bar. The service is very good. We mostly ordered sushi but tried a few other items. Overall, this is a solid choice for sushi. The plating is very nice. They don’t have«to go» containers. So order accordingly. They ended up wrapping our leftovers in foil! 1. Live Ama-Ebi 2. Bluefin nigiri and sashimi 3. Signature Sake 4. Signature Madai 5. Signature Shima Aji 6. Uni nigiri 7. Wasabi Tobiko nigiri 8. Ocean Trout nigiri 9. Signature O-Toro 10. O-Toro sashimi 11. Shishito peppers 12. Duck breast 13. Shrimps tempura 14. Tears of Dawn sake 15. Signature Hamachi 16. Spicy tuna hand rolls 17. Salmon skin hand rolls 18. Fresh wasabi

Came here for the omakase and it was delicious. It was one hella expensive meal! I didn’t get the wagyu beef but looking from the receipt we were charged for it. After tax and tip we spent about $ 200 a person for the omakase and one drink. I would probably stay away from the cocktails. I tried the wahaka but it was way too sweet and had to send it back. I ended up getting the Japanese old fashioned again and it tasted completely different from the first one I got when we were waiting to get seated. I really liked all the different otoro sushi they gave us. Every piece literally melts in your mouth. The salmon truffle aioli was a big hit. Live ama-ebi was delicious. I was a little disappointed in the live uni. It had a weird bitter after taste that I wasn’t used to. I would definitely come back just to get a giant tray of otoro sushi and salmon belly.

Easily the new champion of sushi in Houston. I already forgot all the names of other sushi restaurants around town. True, I have been a big skeptic of MF ever since their inception into the game at their old Westheimer location. But the new MF… Ohhhh boy, there’s a new top dog in town and its name is Mutha Fcking Sushi! The décor reminds me of famous restaurants such as Morimoto Napa. Clean cut furniture, sharp interior design, with a touch of soft ambiance. Perfect place to eat something as pure and fresh as sushi. Everything in the restaurants seems to be designed to enhance your sushi experience and when the time comes to eat, Chef Kinjo does not disappoint. I’m sorry, let me rephrase my nonchalant understatement. Kinjo kicks ass with his new menu! The otoro has a perfect balance with just the right amount of rice. Go for the live uni. Get the charcoal cooked duck. Get the ankimo. Get the live shrimp. Just… get everything. Please don’t compare this to Uchi since those kids other there are more on the frontiers of Japanese cuisine rather than sushi. The new MF Sushi is all about heightening the classics. Bringing the traditional sushi to the upper echelon. To bedazzle you with something so simple, and yet so beautiful. Something seemingly so easy, and yet so few can do. It is unfathomable to not enjoy the new MF. Hungry or not hungry, you will leave satisfied and more than likely, slightly amazed. Book your next date night right now. I shall go for omakase tonight and return soon with an update. Hopefully I will be able to give my very first 5 Star+.
