I got the shrimp basket and was quite disappointed. I can easily tell that the shrimp wasn’t fresh(reheated or old) because it was very dry and old looking. I didn’t finish it. Even the hush puppies weren’t fresh; you can see that it was reheated and old. Granted, they could of had a bad day because I had their shrimp basket combo before and it was fine. I just think that they knew it was old stuff and knowing that, they shouldn’t sell it. Since it creates a bad experience, I won’t be coming back for a long while.

BBQ was held in a steam tray way too long and tasted water logged.

A few weeks ago while on business in Houston I finally ate at Otto’s BBQ for lunch and loved it. I had the two meat platter with brisket, links, potato salad and broccoli casserole. I eat a lot of BBQ and Otto’s is great.

Beware diners! Otto’s gave my husband severe food poisoning! He had the«special» chili cheeseburger. Reported the incident to the health department.

I love a good BBQ joint and in all honesty, Otto’s aint it. Maybe the original on Memorial is better, but it wouldnt be hard. It’s upstairs in the Shops at Houston Center and I’ve been twice now, both times toward the end of the lunch rush. Because of all the nearby office bldgs, the food court here gets bum-rushed everyday at noon. Both times I’ve been, a significant portion of the menu was«sold out». For a restaurant that knows it’ll be very busy everyday, I find that very tough to accept. Planning, people! I’ve had brisket and then tried the smoked sausage. Neither were memorable. The smoke level was quite low for both, a bugaboo for me, as I like a strong smoke to my BBQ. The sides were also forgetable. The staff seemed listless and in an ill mood. Yes, I understand they’d already served thousands, but I deserve pleasantness as much as customer #1 did. Otto’s isn’t cheap, though the serving sizes are decent for the price. The food is indistinguishable from any one of a hundred other blah BBQ places in town. Simply having a smoker doesn’t make you a great BBQ place.
