Let’s talk about R.D. I was in the bar when«Rick» had his issue. I have several kids whom I would have put in time out for the way he behaved. Long story short. He asked for a promo when it wasn’t running and was told as much politely. He then proceeded to berate the bartender who was half his size, going as far to threaten him physically. Rick is a bully. He’s also everything that is wrong about business rating platforms. You can act like a complete jackass and then slam a business when the truth is you’re an emotionally unintelligent juvenile. You are not missed and God help the next place you choose to be an ass-hat at. I’m assuming your 1 bedroom apartment had a mirror. Look in it. You are a loud mouth bully jackass. My name is Jon Bowers if you have any issue with my comments. I’m not tough to find.

Just lost my business due to a bartender named Matt. The bar runs a promotion on Mon, Tues, and Sat. As for Saturdays the bartenders give a different story when the promotion stops/starts. Although all I’ve talked to say the register keeps it as open all day. Matt tried to play hard ball with when it starts stop this Saturday. I was not going to debate it with him. He made the wrong business decision. They just lost several local good customers. Nice job Matt! Bye RBar.

After dinner Saturday night, my friend and I wanted a quick cocktail, but we didn’t want to jump anywhere near Washington, Midtown, or West U. RBar is super close to the casa, and I had never been in, so we stopped in and were immediately greeted. Now, it’s nothing special, a bar with some smallish TVs, and alcohol, but that’s really all you need right? They also have some tables outside. Service was quick, wine selection could have been better(they only service ½ bottles) but it had what we needed.

So I’m a little embarrassed to admit that we sat at R Bar for almost five hours on a weeknight. It’s Oktoberfest time; can you blame us?! In all honesty, we were doing more talking than drinking, but the waitress never stopped coming around to check on us. It was crowded but not overly so. We were able to hold some very private conversations and it felt like we were sitting in our own living room — yep, it’s that comfortable. We eventually got hungry and asked if they had any food. The bartender smiled and said, «Just some frozen pizza that we stick in the microwave, sweetie.» Turns out that the frozen pizza is actually pretty darn good! R Bar has everything you’d want in a neighborhood bar. Good prices, a large beer selection and lots of parking. Perfect for an easy, quiet night.

This is a great bar with a fun atmosphere and friendly owners. They have trivia on Thursday nights as well as lots of TVs for sporting events.

If you want Washington Ave douchebaggery, look elsewhere. If you want some relaxed fun with tasty adult beverages and nice people, drop by R Bar. Very friendly and warm service, a place you can chill with a drink and have a good time. And if you order something out of the ordinary, the bartender won’t give you a dumb look – they’re all professionals that know what they’re doing. It’s centrally located so it’s easy to get to from Downtown, Montrose, or the Galleria. Also right next to Los Coco’s if you want to grab a bite. There’s trivia night with ‘homemade’ trivia and a dart league team. Check it out.

The only menu this place ha is from the Mexican restaurant next door & they deliver it. They said they have some pizza. Small, neighborhood bar. Darts, TVs. References to «awesome pulled pork» apparently refer to an employee who barbecues during football season only.

This is nice little spot to hang for a bit on a Sunday afternoon. I’m not deep into football, but if you are, this is the spot! Decent drinks — the margaritas is a hit or miss. It is definitely a local«Cheers» spot for our neighborhood.

Excellent bar. Great staff. Trivia Thursdays are great; best trivia in Houston. It’s all on TVs(but not NTN) and is legit trivia. Free food on Sundays during football season too! Plus, they have Comcast for the Astros, Rockets and Dynamo.

This hidden little gem should be tried by all. It’s a regular little spot with nice strong drinks and good company. You can order food from next door at Los Cucos if you have the munchies.

As good as a neighborhood bar gets. Great staff and a great selection of beers and liquors. They do need a couple more decent reposado Tequilas. Day drinking HQ.

Really nice bartenders. Doesnt get too packed very often. Kind of has a weird smell but then again, it’s a bar so expectations arent too high. Good spot to chill and have a drink and watch the game.

I love this place. Perfect for a chill afterwork drink. There is never really many people there late night and the drinks are more than fairly priced. I can get a Balvenie 21 yr for $ 15 almost the same price other bars in the area would charge me for almost any 12 yr sctoch. This is a place for real drinkers.

The Velvet Lounge is now The R Bar. New ownership as of May 3. Catering to the more sports oriented. The only place on Memorial Drive between downtown and the loop to have a cocktail. Friendly staff, new Golden Tee, TV’s show all the games and new regulars. This bar is now a great alternative to the madness of Washington Ave.

This is a cool bar in a nondescript strip center on Memorial Dr. Velvet Lounge is a little difficult to find, it’s sandwiched between Texadelphia and Los Cucos. I believe it used to be a Cold Stone Creamery. There really is not much to it. Velvet Lounge is probable the size of my garage. There is a bar on the right as you enter. Tables line the wall opposite the bar. They have a couple of LCD’s showing the latest in sports news, but one of the screens is dedicated to NTN Trivia. It’s just over a year old so Velvet lounge is still in pretty good shape. The bartenders are great. They seem to know what each customer is up for. The happy hour prices are excellent and lasts till 9pm. There are a few beers on tap and they are all very cold coming out. And for all the ladies out there, they have an extensive Martini menu. On the weekends they have live shows, keep in mind the place is small. They will not have the local psychobilly band playing. It will be a one man acoustical set. If you happen to stroll into Velvet Lounge ask for Cookie at the bar, she will take great care of you.
