Shot bar has gotten better over the years in letting people in. Back in the days when it first opened up, the bouncers used to be a lot like Gaslamp across the street in being selective on whom they would let in. The only difference is they wouldn’t try to charge certain of groups of people to be able to get in. It was either you’re in or you’re not. I used to hate coming here. A lot. Why? Because it wouldn’t matter what I wore, I wouldn’t get in. There was always some excuse about what I wore, or about having too many guys in the group, or about my shoes, or something. The only exception is if I came in with a whole bunch of white friends or females. Then no problem there. These days, however. They’re a lot more lax in letting people in. No matter what your race is, what you wear(I see guys in t-shirts, shorts, and sandals are allowed to get in these days). I guess they’re learning from Gaslamp or they’re just not getting that much business anymore. Anyway, once you get in, it’s usually fun times inside. I always enjoy myself there. The two stars is based on my many experience of getting denied at the door.

Came for the first time this past weekend. It was heavily packed for a Saturday night, but I loved every bit of it. I loved the variety of music especially when some old school music was being played. Def a good first stop for a night out.

This is my first stop every time I go to midtown. They have cheap drink and great music. I can say they do get extremely crowded as the night goes on but definitely the first place I stop into to get me started. I never had any problem with the bouncer alway been nice!

I really like this bar, They have a shot wheel they spin, and whatever it lands on you get that shot. I like the big red shot, don’t know what was in it but it is was bomb.

What is better than shots?! You get to spin a super fun wheel and pretty people pour you a decently sized DELICIOUS shot! We spun twice and the first was a «blue balls shot» and the second I cant remember the name, but is was cream/milk based. Both were amazing and worth the money. Yes, this isn’t the cheapest place… I think it is best to start the party here and keep it moving to surrounding bars. It was very crowded, but the atmosphere was super fun!

Everyone I know has complained about Shot Bar… but somehow I have found myself there on more Thursday through Saturday nights than I would like to admit. Everything everyone says about it being crowded and there being lines is true, but it’s for a reason. Shot Bar has a cool setting that would be a lot more fun if it had twice the room. Music is usually on point. There are TVs. Spinning the wheel is cool(sort of). They have snack mix. SNACKMIX! If you can get to the bar(good luck) and you are in the mood to dance(and don’t mind bumping into people as you do it) it’s not a bad place to be! It’s a must-try at least once if you live in Midtown if you want a story to tell.

Shot bar is awesome for those nights you just want to get loose and have a great time on the dance floor. No cover which I love I can spend more money on drinks. It can be a bit crowd but what else do you except. The upper level is where you want to be right next to the DJ dancing the night way. If you don’t want to dance and would prefer a nice casual night sitting and drinking you won’t find it here.

Bar is nice a bit packed but your able to have a good time that was before they started rejecting my Mexican ID know as «Matricula» they started telling me they didn’t accept those kind of ID’s when in previous occasions I would go in with that same ID I have a Texas ID I just rather use my Matricula just in case I end up losing it or stuff like that, I also dislike the door staff the way they told me they did not accept those kind of ID’s they were extremely rude and seem pretty racist. I now just use my Texas ID yet never been back to this bar did not like this ID experience.

We walked in here to start off a bar crawl at 8 or so on a Saturday night… the place was dead. I saw the chex mix on the wall and was excited… thankfully it was pretty good. In fact, it was the only thing this place really had going for itself. The bartenders were standoffish and somewhat rude. After about 5 minutes and a cup of chex-mix I was ready to go. If it wasn’t for the chex-mix I wouldn’t even remember this place.

DISCRIMINATION! I’m from Illinois, but was in town for a day visiting some friends. She invited me out with a group of people to celebrate another friend’s birthday at Shot Bar. When we arrived, one of her friends was waiting outside after being denied entrance due to his sneakers. My friend was also wearing sneakers, so the bouncer also turned him down. A group of people lined up and all were given access to the bar, even though one of them was wearing sneakers. When we asked why he was given access and our friends weren’t, we were completely ignored. The difference between the groups of people was that the group I was with consisted of Hispanics and African-American, while the other group was all White. Whether this is common in Texas or not, it doesn’t justify their actions.

Shot Bar, oh Shot Bar, why did I ever stop frequenting this spot? Oh yeah, because I pulled my head out of my ass and started exploring the world of Houston outside of Midtown. If you’re new to Houston, just visiting or just vapid Shot Bar will be a blast for you. However if you’re a little beyond any of those qualifiers, Shot Bar will drive you cuckoo banana crackers crazy. I’ll paint the scene… You wait in line for an exorbitant amount of time especially in relation to the crap you’re about to experience. Once you’re in, as a female it takes only milliseconds for about 5 frat guys to sense the presence of fresh meat in the pack and attempt to lock in on their target. You try to shuffle your way up to the bar through the mass of sweaty drunks, either dancing or just being d**ks and not wanting the get out of your way – mind you this is a tiny place, the bar is like ten feet from the door, and yet it still takes a good five minutes or so to maneuver up to the bar. At the bar you just hope to be acknowledged by the hottie hot hot bartender, but you know you’re nowhere near the top of her priorities. You finally get your overpriced drink and now you must dance. You kind of have no choice, given the size of the place and lack of seating. So I hope you like dancing. And it’s likely someone will want to take you home, so if you’re in search of some anonymous and casual one night thing you may find it here. That is the essence of Shot Bar.

Pretty Bro Dude, even by Mid-town standards(complete with bro’s high fiving each other for no apparent reason). We got there around 10 and it was like sardine cans and it was damn near impossible to move to even order shots. For some reason, they were not letting anybody go upstairs despite the crowd not being able to move and the smell coming from the bathrooms so close to the bar was becoming really bad. Seriously, who takes a crap at a bar? Anyway… around 11:30 someone finally opened up upstairs which is actually kind of nice but I don’t get why they didn’t open it earlier. The music is also bro-dudey — overplayed yuppie hiphop mostly so I guess they know their target audience.

Shot bar is fantastic for girls who want to get wild and dance, and guys who want crazy girls bouncing up all over them. In other words, think hot, super crowded jumble of moving people clustered around two separate bar areas on the first level(which also has a shot wheel and a mini stage) and a small overlooking upper level, which has a live DJ and surprisingly, clean bathrooms. The music is rap/R&B, mixing the classics with all the hits currently on Houston’s ‘The Box’ or ‘The Beat’ — aka, pop rap radio. There are a lot of drinks to choose from, and the atmosphere is upbeat and bright, albeit small and always cramped. It’s loud, in a good way, and there’s no cover charge. I’ve never had to wait in line to get in, even though the place is always crazy inside. The place isn’t ideal if you’re just into drinking and checking out the scene, however. It’s too wild, too packed for that. Shot Bar is exactly that — pound down a few shots and get on with it. There’s no room to stand around, and even if there was, you’d probably get an actual drink knocked out of your hands. Personally, I like the high energy, loud music, and that I don’t have to wait in line to get in. Shot Bar is the perfect place to pop in, stay for 20 minutes, then pop out and get on with your night.

This is the second time in one month that someone in our group was kicked out of the establishment. The first occasion was for our co-ed bachelor party. We took a minimum of 40 people into this establishment and the bride to be closed her eyes for a brief second because her contacts were bothering here and no matter how much she tried to explain what she was doing she was told to leave by one of the bouncers. Once again this was a very large group and we made up majority of the people in this place. Everybody was spending money and having a good time… needless to say we all left and took our business someone where else. We decided to give this place a second chance because the music was good and we were having a good time. Last night I was escorted out of the club by two police officers because the manager claimed that I assaulted her. When asking to speak with the manager I was told that if she came out and said that I had assaulted her, I would be taken to jail. There were 9 people that could support the fact that there had to be some type of mistake. All of this fall on def ears and we decided not to test the animated unprofessional police officer that made the treat. Once again we took our business someone where else. This time we will not be back!

I have no choice but to give them one star. But given the choice i would give them nothing. This is the second time we have been here and very disappointed tonight. We were have a great time drinking spending money and all of the sudden cops approach our area and kick out a friend. They said the bartender said he touched her ass… really get real. She came into our space and disrupted our area. We will never step place in that bar… EVER…FU to the cop and FU to the bartender. You suck such a great place and because some stupid bartender she makes it hell for everyone else… they totally suck

First impressions: small place, Top 20 pop dance music, large shot wheel behind the bar and not busy for a Saturday night. They had a TV by the bar showing the recipes for their«Top 10» and their shot wheel. How can anyone pass up ordering a shot at a place called Shot Bar?! Wasn’t surprised to see that Red Snapper was on the«Top 10» list. We ordered three Red Snappers and continued chatting with my friends. After she was done I asked to make one more … Totally annoying I know but I found another victim to take a shot so I asked her to make another and apologized. I watched her make it and noticed she never poured Crown Royal. My friends already had passed out the other shots so I decided to not question anything. Once I got the bill and noticed they were $ 7.50 each I questioned her what she used to make them and she confirmed my suspicion … she used well bourbon. $ 7.50 for a shot that only had well liquor … I guess only in Houston?! I told her I’ve never had a Red Snapper made without Crown and she just walked away. I hate to give a business a low star rating based on an individual buuuut it was Saturday night. What type of owner has a bartender working a busy night that doesn’t know the recipe to what they have claimed as their popular shot ordered!!! This is a happening area of Houston so with all the other options I won’t return. If I had you at Shot Wheel then just be careful that the bartender isn’t taking advantage of you having a good time.

Great small spot with more to offer than would be expected. Come early as the lines gets very long

If you like long lines and over-packed small venues then this is your place. Granted the long line is probably from the surplus amount of guests in the bar so yes regulations dictate the capacity causing long waits which is understandable. But my annoyance is that they don’t do a good job of managing the flow of people in and out of the bar. You wait a long time to get in only to be shoulder to shoulder with strangers no matter where you go in the bar. Kudos to them for being so popular but it doesn’t make for a fun experience if there’s no room for anything but standing still and trying not to get your drink spilled by people bumping into you. I understand there’s a money motivation and in theory the more people you get in the more money you make. However, I also beg to argue that letting in a reasonable amount of satisfied people also leads them to staying longer and purchasing multiple drinks thus potentially equalling out the difference of quantity over quality scenario.

Kind of small… it feels like nothing really happens here. I’ve literally only walked in to take quick round of shots because it didn’t look as busy as the other bars.
