Restroom is dirty. Ordered fried chicken wings, taste weird. Something like fishy taste or about to spoil. I returned it. They didn’t charge me. Wanton soup was good. Woudn’t recommend.

Wanted to update my review. Some of the best chinese food in Houston. The spicy fish fillet is very delicious and still my number one favorite. Love ordering the mongolian beef and flat noodle beef. Their steamed dumplings are very tasty and their combination lo mein and mapo tofu! Delivery is fast even when I moved!

My coworkers and I ordered from Ta Hua for lunch today. We placed our order online at 11:54AM with an expected delivery window of 30 – 45 minutes. The delivery took over an hour. I called restaurant at 12:55 and she said our food was on it’s way. The driver got to our office 20 minutes later at 1:15PM. We work less than 2 miles from the restaurant. I understand that lunch time delivery takes a little longer, because it’s a peak time, but this was really frustrating. None of us had a tricky order(we all ordered off of the lunch menu). Once the food got to us, we realized that none of our orders were hot and 3 out of our 5 orders were incorrect. We were hopeful that this would be our go to lunch spot after reading the great Unilocal reviews, but I’m afraid that after this experience it’s going on the lunch break black list.

Excellent food and service. More authentic Chinese flavorings than a lot of other places. Casual atmosphere.

First off the vegetable steamed dumplings are the best I’ve ever had and drive from downtown Houston every now and again to come have them. I’ve been going to this place since I was a foot tall and they were located on Post Oak Blvd near the Galleria. Food is above average for Chinese, but like most Chinese restaurants the quality of meat could be improved. Also like most Chinese restaurants I don’t like how they use MSG.

Ive ordered to go every time I decide to eat their food. However, last week I ordered their stir fried green beans and once i received them I bit into them and they tasted a bit spoiled. My younger son had already ate a few and I took them off his plate after I tried them. A few hours later I felt sick to my stomach and my son was complaining of stomach aches as well, thereafter he was throwing up non stop. I was really disappointed since this place could have been my go to take out Chinese place, but after that night I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, unless you want food poisoning the next day… meh…

I used to eat here often growing up in west Houston, and stopped in for the first time in about 10 years. The dining room is poorly lit and the décor outdated. The entire restaurant from exterior to inside is in dire need of repair and/or updating. The food is standard Asian fare, nothing spectacular about the flavors or presentation. If you put it in a styrofoam box, I would have thought it came from the mall. It’s not surprising that I was the only customer in the restaurant at lunchtime. I won’t be returning.

We decided to try new Chinese place that we saw from prior trips down Memorial Drive. At first, the inside didn’t look as nice as we had anticipated with no booths and low end tables and chairs. Once we got past that and ordered from the fairly common menu items, we were pleased with the food. Although not as many courses for your dollar as some other Chinese places we’ve been, the moo goo gai pan was pretty good with a unique sauce that was slightly spicy but tasty. If atmosphere is what you’re seeking, this isn’t the place. However, pretty good take out option for when you’re craving Chinese food.

The food is awful! My stomach got sick and I could not go to work next day! Horrible place to dine! I feel really sorry for the people eating there…

Not sure what has changed here, management or cooks. The food used to be quite good and service as well. Not anymore. I got the spicy fish with egg drop soup. The soup was very thick and almost to a yogurt consistency. The Spicy Fish was sooo salty it was hardly editable, had to drink lots of water to consume it. Not too spicy which I did like and the egg roll was good as well. Don’t recommend wasting you time here. It seems they also segregate chinese speaking customers into another dining area from the non-chinese speaking customers. Thought that was strange, but it has happened on several occasions and even the guests I was with recognized this as well.

I used to love eating here especially there shrimp fried rice because the portions are so large, I’ve always ordered the rice with a side of sweet and sour sauce compliments of the manager. So one day I place a large order(at least $ 50 worth) and ask for the sauce the cashier very rudely told me no, so I asked if he could grab the manager because she always lets me have the sauce he then preceded to tell me she was too busy to come talk to me about this which okay I guess, so I waited for about 10 minutes and he still wouldn’t address me about speaking to the manager so I told him I no longer wanted the rice because I eat these two things together. He started getting angry with me asking«really really over some sauce! Are you serious right now?!» Those were my thoughts exactly you would rather take the food back then to give me the sauce or let me speak with a manager. I called later that day to speak with the manager and the same cashier answered the phone he pretended to be the manager and when I tried calling back several times to speak with her he kept hanging up or just wouldn’t put me through. Finally right before they closed I got a call from the manager asking if I was going to come pick up my food, because apparently instead of being honest the cashier told them I had never come. This WAS one of my favorite places to eat until this situation sadly I haven’t been back since and I don’t think I will ever go back that situation was just blown completely out of control.

I was told it had new management first time food was good. …really good… Second time ewww. I had a large order and also wanted the fried rice and they asked me are you sure you want it, and I said yes. They should have told me they were out! It was right before Christmas… They gave me day old rice with desiccated peas. They were all old and wrinkled. I won’t be going back. If a Resturant is out of something they should be honest, I’d rather choose something else than get day old disgusting rice. Even if it is a side dish. Ewww

Ta Hua has improved since my last visit five years ago, but I still would not recommend it, mainly due to the environment. Starting with the outside, the front patio is nicely landscaped with palms and evergreens but, strangely, not operational. Instead it is used to store excess furniture. Then, as you approach the front door, there is a pond/fountain probably intended for koi fish but instead has stagnant water with floating bits of trash. See picture. Next to the pond is more litter and some landscaping tools. Upon entering the front door, there is a Christmas tree. Nice, except it’s mid-February. Between the lobby and the south dining area(there are three dining areas) is a large aquarium(150 gallon?) which could be a real attraction. Instead, it’s half empty, poorly lit, with about 4 unremarkable fish. The dining experience did not overcome the dismal environment. We ordered the duck and honey walnut shrimp. We also ordered fresh fruit, since it was on the menu, but our waitress informed us that it was not available because they had«changed the menu». The honey walnut shrimp was pretty good with good size shrimp nicely battered. The duck was less appetizing than the picture on the menu — slighty dry and rubbery. My iced tea was served without ice. It will probably another five years before I return…

I met up with some friends for lunch. Service was excellent. My water was refilled a few times without even asking. The food came out quickly, and the portions are a good size. We all ordered our lunch specials, around $ 8.00. I would pass on the fried rice next time(though my friend said if you order it off their regular menu, it’s much better). I ordered the shredded pork with garlic sauce. I really liked it, as it wasn’t too saucy with that thick cornstarch sauce that a lot of Chinese restaurants tend to use. My brother in law ordered the jalapeño chicken and shrimp — a large portion. It was very good. I wanted to wrap it in a tortilla and eat it like a fajita though. This is a nice place for lunch if you’re tired of the usual spots in the Energy Corridor.

Whenever I have a Chinese food craving and I’m in the Westchase area, I’ll always call in for take out. And pretty much always order the same items. A must order is the singapore noodles. It’s not always consistent and sometimes comes out a bit dry, but over still very good. Another one of my favorites are their eggrolls. Not sure what it is about them, but they always hit the spot. I’ve tried the lemon chicken more than once and the sauce is pretty good. I recently tried the hot and sour soup, and I would not recommend it. It’s pretty bland and neither hot or spicy. Overall this place is good when you have a greasy Chinese food craving and you’re not able to get to Chinatown.

I usually order from Aloha Grill on Westheimer, but they were closed on Christmas Day, and we were dying for Chinese. Ordered the Orange Chicken, which was super sweet, but MAN do they give you a lot of it. Tip: DF figured the entrée would come with rice.(Which it does if you order the combo, but you get a smaller portion of chicken.) So he didn’t add the $ 2.00 side order of rice, and was disappointed when he didn’t get any with the order. Lesson? Listen to the pretty girl advising you to order it. It’s only $ 2 and extra rice would have been wayy better than no rice. Also got the crab ragoons, cream cheesy things. I expected salty and was hit with a suuuper sweet filling. That was the theme of this meal. Sugar. Ungood. We also got the Chinese Eggrolls which we ended up fighting over with his daughter. (She won the rock paper scissors.) She got Wonton Soup which she enjoyed. And then there was the cherry on top, AWESOME Lo Mein. I’m used to Panda Express style Chow Mein back home, Lo Mein seems to be the more common thing here. This was pretty good. The only salty thing with the meal, the only thing they beat Aloha on. Overall, it was alright. We got a lot of food for about $ 37 bucks.

One of the best lunch spots in energy corridor.(My colleagues are Chinese and agree it is good quality!) ta hua has a $ 7 lunch special(cash only) that is always great. It is only advertised in Chinese, though… Just ask about it. You have selection of 3 dishes and get to choose two(+comes with rice). The owner grows many vegetables at her house that they serve here.

The best and freshest steamed vegetable dumplings in the world. They are so good that they take not only the top #1 spot but also the #2 spot. Whoever might be the second best steam vegetable dumpling place can only take the #3 spot. I’ve been eating at Ta Hua since 1980. They were originally located on S. Post Oak Blvd near the Galleria. Their dumplings have always been GREAT! and I love their ginger and green hot pepper toppings.

My new favorite spot! It prolly helps I go with my Chinese boss, otherwise I’m not certain the dishes would be as authentic. They have two menus here; we’ve only ordered from the one in Chinese. Good luck reading it lol Dishes that we love: lamb with onions & peppers, eggplant in some kinda dark sauce, and some variation of catfish(basa filet I think) in a red spicy soup like sauce. See pics because I don’t know the names of any of these dishes. It’s all so delicious though! Also tried the beef & peppers which wasn’t all that great in comparison, as well as spicy shrimp with zillions of red chili peppers literally all over them. We’ve also ordered some dishes more common in «Americanized» Chinese spots but made a bit differently; apparently less sweet and oily. Again, all ok but they don’t tickle my taste buds like the previous dishes mentioned! Service has been hit or miss. And the last time we got a 10% discount for paying in cash.
