I am referring to the Driftwood location all you can eat buffet for $ 25 you can’t beat that I drove 3 hours just to go eat there. The pork ribs are amazing I couldn’t stop eating them. Also the potato salad was different never had it like that before. All I can say is everybody need to come here at least 1 time in there life

Well, I guess I’m sort of glad I didn’t drive all the way to Central Texas to eat at the«famous» Salt Lick Restaurant, because the cole slaw and the potato salad were so bland and tasteless! Bummer:(I had such high expectations. If this is any indication of what the other dishes will taste like… I might as well eat at the McDonald’s next door. However, I am still determined to give this place a try and sample the $ 12BBQ sandwich since the reviews seem to rave about it. But $ 12 seems ridiculous-I could buy a 3 lb. pork shoulder at Randall’s for that price. Better yet, I was given the Salt Lick Cookbook, so if I never make it down near San Antone-I’ll cook up some vittles myself using their own recipe.

If you’re comparing this location to the location in Austin you will be disappointed. I was hoping for the same food and experience as the original location; maybe my hopes were too high? Maybe it was just wishful thinking. However the BBQ was decent, but it will be what you expect a fast food airport restaurant to dish out. A for effort though!

If you’re actually not setting foot outside of the Houston airport, this place is a decent option for BBQ. If you are rating it from the level of goodness of Houston BBQ places, you will be disappointed. We felt pretty good about our food, though the woman behind the counter would not initially give us tri-tip as our«meat» in the loaded baked potato with meat dish. Only until the other nicer staff understand the argument that when they say any meat, they should also have said except tri-trip. Despite that mishap, the food was pretty good and they have decent WIFI in this part of the airport.

This is the best layover ever! It’s been a painful morning dragging myself out of bed at 4am for a long day enroute to Nashville. When I spotted Salt Lick during my layover at IAH, it turned my whole day around. I debated for a second whether to eat given it’s still early PST and I just devoured an everything bagel with butter & cream cheese on the flight here. So glad I didn’t let my moral conscience stop me! My flight to Nashville is so much more pleasant now:) I have heard about Salt Lick for a while and was lucky enough to have tasted it at the summer BBQ festival at Madison Square Park in New York years ago. As good as the BBQ was, I had no intention of flying to Austin and driving an hour out of town just to wait on another hour of line in burning hot Texas. Now, even less incentive to go! All I have to do is book a connection flight through United: D Apologize for ranting but I’m just too excited over the new find while I’m savoring the smokiness on my palate while sitting on the runway. Book a united flight, Terminal B, 5 min line, order the beef brisket and sausage combo, extra BBQ sauce! I’m done.

I eat in a lot of airports. This is usually a utilitarian experience, occasionally a hunger emergency, rarely a pleasure. But the plate of food I had for lunch at the Salt Lick was really delicious. It was nothing fancy, just chopped beef with hot sauce, cole slaw, and beans, but each element was delicious, and the combination was even better. I think it’s the best meal I’ve had in an airport since the kale/quinoa salad I ate in the Phoenix airport in December 2012. I’m sure that as an ambassador for Texas BBQ to those traveling through, it’s sort of underwhelming. But other airports fail even worse on this score. Gold Coast Dogs, I’m thinking of you.

Words cannot express the excitement that appeared in my boyfriend’s eyes when we found out that there was a location of the famous Salt Lick within the walls of the Houston International Airport. You have to know that I have literally been hearing about Salt Lick barbeque since we started dating, since the boyf originally hails from San Antonio. I’ve long been regaled with tales of how it is, simply, the best. And thanks to a 3-hour layover and some internet research, I can now confirm that very fact for myself! Mm-mmm good. I got the brisket platter, which came with two sides. The side selection was a little limited, but I opted for potato salad and baked beans. I gotta say, this was some goooooooo-ooooood brisket. Super moist, flavorful, tender, and made all the more delicious with their tangy BBQ sauce. I can see what all the fuss is about! I basically licked that part of my plate totally clean. The sides were pretty good as well, but I was a little disappointed that the selection was so limited. There was only the options of potato salad, baked beans, and cole slaw. I would’ve loved to be able to have some mashed taters or mac ‘n’ cheese! The ambiance of this place being located in an airport food court(and Terminal B, no less, which isn’t even the shiniest, newest terminal, haha) did somewhat take away from the experience, plus the staff didn’t exactly seem thrilled to be dishing out the ‘que, so I can’t quite give my experience a complete 5 stars. BUT it did make me super psyched to one day visit the original Salt Lick and get my hand(and stomach!) on more of that amazing brisket! Definitely worth the tram trip over to Terminal B if you’re craving some ‘que next time you’re laid up in the Houston airport!

Can’t believe they have salt lick here! This location is in a small food court off the Termalink transterminal tram in Terminal B. Across from Panchitos.
