Recently visited for brunch, but it was a rainy day. However, the potential for great fun and quality service was clear! I would describe this as a small, grown up, welcoming, ice house that welcomes pets while serving stick-to-your-ribs delights. After fighting the parking game(BEWARE: Parking sucks!!!), I was immediately welcomed by the Winston staff. Even the other bar patrons welcomed me. For me, that says alot about a business and their customers. More specifically, when a «snooty» place exists, it draws and attracts a «snooty» clientele. On to the food and dranks… I dined on the fried ribeye steak. It was accompanied by another meal too. More specifically, the ribeye steak is served with bacon, hash browns, 2 eggs to order, and I think I also had some bread. The $ 2 bloody mary was also great; not just because of the price. I requested it be made a particular way, and such was the case. The fried steak was great, and this was my first time to try such an item. The crust was not too heavy and the accompanying gravy was also quite tasty. I switched between the gravy and A-1 sauce. I especially liked my chosen lower bar stool. Everyone offered a normal-height one; however, I kind of enjoyed being directly in line with my meal. I look forward to returning on a warm, maybe balmy evening. I don’t know that I can bring my dog along, but that’s just because he’s too darn BAD.

I’ve had this place bookmarked for awhile so when my friends from Katy wanted to come in town for brunch on a nice Saturday morning, I figured we could all try this place together. They also Unilocaled the restaurant before coming in town and one of them mentioned that this was the top 10 places in Houston for brunch. Well… now that I’ve been here, I don’t know about all that!!! The first thing I noticed was how cracked out all the waitresses looked. It was so obvious that they were all on drugs and they tried so hard to be attentive so it was a little hard for me to be annoyed when they got our orders wrong, or forgot the gravy with the Chicken Fried Steak, or how they took forever to bring our drinks out and admitted that they completely had a brain fart and forgot about it, or how they added a drink we didn’t even order to our tab. *sigh* I ordered the French Toast & Wings and was not disappointed in the food. They have different sauces for the wings, you can get them on your wings or on the side. I got the Spicy Garlic on the side and it was pretty good. The french toast was on point! 3 out of 4 of us ordered the same meal and it was a unanimous decision that the food was good. The mimosas were a little weak but you get 1 free glass for a check-in offer. I got my free glass and ordered a pitcher. Usually, I’d be drunk or at least have a good buzz after a pitcher but I wasn’t feeling anything. What the actual F. If it wasn’t for the service, I would’ve probably given this place 4 stars. Great patio area and dog-friendly! I’ll probably be back. The food is good and the atmosphere is great. I was surprised that it was pretty dead for a Saturday afternoon though.

I wanted to like this place since it’s a self described small dive bar on Washington that is dog friendly, has mostly patio seating, nice restrooms and supposedly has decent bar food too. It all started off good when I visited recently on a Sunday for brunch, but then it quickly went to shit. I will give them credit, the new owners are friendly and came to the table and stuck up conversation with me on a few occasions, but they didn’t come at the right time. One of the new owners, Jaime, was my waiter. However, he’s probably a better owner than a waiter and explained they are still in the transition phase, getting things all sorted out and decided to stick with a small menu. We received a free mimosa with the Unilocal check in, ordered a $ 2 bloody mary which was good and also ordered a 2nd mimosa. For food, we chose the 1⁄3 lb burger with bacon and tots, and a country fried ribeye with over easy eggs. The ribeye came out first from the kitchen after about 20 mins, but the burger never came. I ended up finishing my entire plate… ate on it for about 15 minutes… chicken fried ribeye, 2 slices of bacon, 2 eggs and hashbrowns, all which were good, even though the ribeye was well done and had brown gravy, and was warm to cold depending which part I cut into. Bacon, hash browns and eggs were great. I ended up walking up the kitchen and asking Jaime if the burger would be ready anytime soon and he said a few more mins, but said it’d be comped. When the burger and tots finally arrived, it came on a plain toasted bun with just lettuce. We added bacon. There were no condiments, no tomatoes. …I’m not sure if this is how it usually comes but it seems pretty simple for a $ 10 burger. Bun meat and lettuce… lol. As far as taste, I ate half of the burger too and was surprised to find its a hand formed patty that’s charbroiled and is good just not that well seasoned. It was cooked about medium, instead of medium rare as we asked, but was falling apart and good, not great. I knocked off a few stars for service, kitchen problems, non seasoned burger and pain in the neck parking. We had to park on the north side of Washington, 1 block from the restaurant. I’d be willing to come back and try it out again, after they work out some of their kinks!

This place just went through a management change and is planning on expanding the bar more. First time here and I love it. Friendly staff and amazing food. They have some big plans for this place so definitely try it out. I had the brunch Monte Cristo and the Country Fried Ribeye. Absolutely delicious. They have a very creative new head chef who is making great food. All day brunch Saturdays and Sunday’s as well as weekly specials!

My experience at Winston’s was so awful, I’m not even upset. I’m past the point of anger. It’s hilarious. I look back on it and I laugh. And laugh and laugh. Winston’s is the only establishment on this block that chose not to pay for free parking spaces for its patrons. You’re on your own, suckers. Read those street signs carefully, and look both ways when running across Washington. The small indoor bar area extends onto an outdoor patio. I was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes out there, so we moved«inside» where there was at least a fan to ward them off. My friend and I ordered breakfast tacos and French toast with wings, respectively. She checked in on Unilocal for a free mimosa, and HAHAHAHAHAHA it tasted like sh*t. How do you screw up a mimosa? My brother is in the bar industry, so I know better than to order one because of the ridiculous mark-up(an entire bottle of champagne is only $ 3). However, this mimosa was so disgusting, you’d have to pay me to drink it. An hour later, they came by to apologize for the wait. «The chef is battering up your wings right now. Oh yea, what did you want in your breakfast tacos again?» You’re killin’ me here. Was your kitchen really that backed up or nah? Keep saying our food will be right out, you gon’ prove it or nah? After a total of 75 minutes, I tore into my wings. Meh. My cup of syrup was barely 1⁄3 full. I poured it over my toast, and it splashed everywhere. It looked like water and tasted like water. I immediately asked for more syrup, and was told that they’d run out but someone went to buy more. So instead of being real with me, you served me watered down syrup and prayed I wouldn’t notice? That’s an insult to my intelligence. I decided not to wait and just ate my toast plain. It was supposed to come with powdered sugar, but they probably ran out of that too HAHAHAHA. They took 50% off my bill to make up for the syrup-flavored water, but by then it was too late to make amends.

This place was just OK. Nothing good, nothing bad. My boyfriend and I both had the breakfast tacos. They were, again, just OK. They were sweet to my pup and had the weather been better, the patio would have been a nice place to chill. Also make sure to check in on Unilocal.I think you get a free mimosa.

Came here with my babies for Brunch on Saturday. I wanted to try their Chicken & French toast but their kitchen staff wasn’t there at noon. So, we waited but was able to get a pitcher of their Sangria. It was on a nice day out on the patio and drinking Sangria while my babies were eating ice. LOL. Finally the kitchen staff came and we were able to get our brunch on. We didn’t leave until close to 4 p.m. We were told that they had a person quit in the kitchen so they were short handed. We were ok because their Sangria tasted like kool-aid = yummy! Lol…

Came here for dinner one Friday night with some friends. Got some happy hour pitchers of beer with the hot dog, chili cheese fries and hamburger to munch on. They were pretty empty for a Friday night but maybe people would show up later? When the food came, everything was decent. Nothing amazing. Guess it’s just better to stick to drinks here. Overall we had a good time and the weather was nice.

Came here one Sunday for brunch. After reading the reviews I was looking forward to it. Seating is outside(some in garage area, others outside under an umbrella shade). It is also a very dog friendly environment. I ordered French toast, which was OK. My bf ordered a steak(to be cooked medium well) and sides. My food was OK, nothing special. His steak was good on the outside but once he cut into it, it was way too much red. It definitely looked medium rare and kind of gross looking. He was unable to finish it and I couldn’t stand the sight of all the redness. Overall, I’m glad I tried this place. The dogs were cute to watch as they barked at each other but I probably won’t be returning.

Went there for a Sunday brunch with our two dogs. Was ready to eat some good food according to all the other reviews. We sat down outside and quickly realized that it was really hot but we decided to stick it out and eat then go. Took about 15 min for someone to come over and brought us menus. Some other guy came over and brought us water and asked if we were ready to order about 30 sec after we got the menus. 20 min after that the original bartender brought us water, I guess she forgot about us. We order a burger and a hot dog. Then we waited for over an hour. We went inside to find out what was going on and they told us that there was a big order put in before our order, a table of about 8 – 10 kids and adults. They said just another 5 min and our food will be out. Sat back down at the table and waited another 10 – 15 min. By this time I was done with this place. No air circulation from a fan of any kind, no refills on water. Went in to tell bartender to just cancel the order. She said it was coming out in just a min. Sorry but we were already told that. So we left and went to Lukes Icehouse and got everything super fast with no problems. Wont ever be going back to Winstons.

After a long night of drinking, I was ready for a hearty meal on Sunday morning. Our friends suggested Winston’s for brunch, but I was a bit hesitant… I was really just hungry looking for a good meal and maybe a little bit of the hair of the dog rather than kicking off an all out sunday funday. Then, I took one look at the brunch menu online and immediately had raised expectations — wings and french toast, steak n eggs, burgers. Parking was a bit of a madhouse considering the world cup games going on, but we managed to park in metered parking on washington. Right when we arrive, my expectations for the food declined some as the place is essentially a garage bar with a small patio. We ordered the wings and french toast and the chicken fried ribeye. Pretty f*cking amazing… definitely way better than anticipated. The wings were really crispy and seasoned well while the french toast was pretty good. The chicken fried ribeye was massive and covered in delicious gravy. It also came with two eggs(i got em sunny side up for a bit more of nature’s gravy) and 2 strips of really crispy bacon. Overall, very impressed with the food. I’ll admit, service was a bit slow/off at first… but quickly they made up for it. We ended up getting mimosas, which seemed to never end. I definitely plan to come back either at night to grab a drink or during football season to catch an early game while enjoying some good food/drinks.

Winston’s is not your typical weekend brunch spot where you and the girls dress up and wait over an hour for food. This is a bar that serves up a pretty decent brunch. Almost all the seating is outdoors: picnic benches and a covered bar area that is open to the outside). My friend and I came around 1PM, wasn’t too crowded. We plopped down at the bar and were immediate approached by the bartender. They are very attentive and checked up on us throughout and after our meal when we were just chatting. We split the French toast + wings and steak(ribeye) + eggs. Both were good, but I want to remind you again, this is not your typical fancy brunch plates. The steak was surprisingly juice and flavorful. Eggs and French toast were pretty standard. The chicken wings could use some salt. PUBLICSERVICEANNOUNCEMENT: If you love mimosas but always wished there was more, get the«man-mosa» aka mimosa disguised in a BEERGLASS. How awesome is that. Guys, fear no more! You no longer have to be embarrassed about ordering a «girly» drink.(By the way, check in for a free one!) Winston’s is also dog friendly. That’s +100000000 in my book. I didn’t bring my dog this time since I wanted to scope it out. Definitely will bring her next time, along with my boyfriend who would love a man-mosa(hehe called out). Parking can be a struggle. There are about 7 or so metered parking spots right in front. You can find additional parking on the streets in the nearby neighborhood(usually free).

A few friends and I went to Winston’s On Washington to try out the brunch, and overall, for the price and vibe, we had a really good time. I had used Unilocal!to find the best brunch spots in Houston, and this was the number two spot. I didn’t know what kind of place it was, so I called ahead to make reservations. That is completely unnecessary. This place is basically just three tabletops and a few benches. We snagged a tabletop, which is rather small for four people. The menu was very simple, and very cheap-looking. Originally, I didn’t know what to expect and thought the worst, but don’t judge a book by its cover. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which was actually very delicious. It’s all homemade, and the meat was very tasty. For such a small, crammed kitchen, I was really surprised that this was what they offered. Pleasantly surprised. There was steak and eggs at the table, and it was also very good. You can really mess up steak and eggs by getting a bad cut of meat, but that was not the case here. The service was friendly and adequate, but nothing special. Contrary to what I thought when I arrived, I would definitely recommend Winston’s On Washington for brunch. It seems to be more of a bar spot — especially with so many bars across the street — but the food was surprisingly very good.

Came here due to the great reviews especially to check out the brunch specials. Great place to go to on a beautiful sunday and when you don’t want to necessarily dress up all fancy to eat. Parking situation is limited. There’s a parking lot across the street from it and residential parking only available during certain times. Pretty excited about this place upon arrival but definitely not the experience I was hoping for by the time I left. The problem was(according to the owner that tried to fix it) that the new(and very smiley) bartender/waitress that served us, did not place our order in correctly. In result, we waited ANHOURAND A HALF to get our food. My guest and I literally got there 15 min after it opened and watched hungrily as other later parties were getting their food served before us… Luckily, when the food finally did come out, it was pretty darn good: get the bulldog omelette! I inhaled that goodness up but it may have been due to the hunger level I was at by that time. Thankfully, the owner and the bartender/waitress were apologetic and nice enough to comp our meal and drinks so that made the experience a bit more tolerable. I can’t quite say I’ll come here again… I gave this place a shot but I definitely don’t want that to happen again.

Read some reviews that made the place sound great. So came on a Sunday for a dog friendly brunch. Asked the for first worker I saw about a patio for my dog and he said I could sit inside. Yes dogs are allowed inside but unlike most of the reviews no water or mat was offered and saw no treats to buy for the dog. Waitress seems hungover or disinterested at best. Texan game is on the big screen but for some reason the volume is way up. I love the Texans too but it’s a small place. All the tables are high tops so it’s hard to pet and control the dog. Got the food to go because it was so not what we thought it would be. Should have gone to Beavers. I assume the food is good but that’s the least important reason I came.

I am so glad I get to update my review and bump it up to five stars! As I stated earlier, a bar that allows dogs and has local craft beers is already a winner in my book. What caused me to go for four to five stars? The food! I went here for Sunday brunch. When we walked in up to the joint, every table was taken. These are double picnic tables, so it’s easy to share. Why not share on a Sunday afternoon? We walked up to a table that was occupied by a woman reading a book. She was not eating, or drinking, just reading. Weird. We asked if we could share her table and she did not look too pleased. She had no desire to share. Just then another table, with about three people sitting at it jumped up and said we could have their table. It turns out they all worked there. We sat down and they immediately brought our two dogs each their own bowl of water. That was very thoughtful. Looking over the menu, my GF got the French toast and wings, and I ordered the steak and eggs. Right off the bat I ate one of the GF’s chicken wings, and it was some deep fried goodness. I wanted to get my hands on one before she demolished them.(I also ate a good portion of the French toast, so I can vouch for its deliciousness as well). My steak was not a puny breakfast steak, but was a hearty ribeye perfectly seasoned, and a delightful medium rare. The eggs and potatoes did not miss either. It was a great breakfast, and worth it for $ 15. You even get a free mimosa with a Unilocal check-in and an order of a brunch entrée. I skipped the mimosa, and decided on a bloody Mary. They do not use mix, and the fresh made bloody Mary was plenty strong with the right amount of horseradish. It was a great eyeopener for a Sunday morning. The loan-table-ranger was there the whole time we were there and never had a drink or anything to eat. She just lounged around taking up a table. Not sure why they let that fly, we almost walked on by thinking the place was full. This is a really good brunch where you can take dogs, get good drinks and great food. Does it get any better than that? The loan-table-ranger doesn’t know what she is missing.

Yup, another new spot on Washington… but one that I’ll actually go to willingly :) The vibe is ultra casual and so far I haven’t run into the usual d-bag crowd that keeps me off the corridor entirely. Good selection of beers, dog friendly patio, DJ on the weekends, and Chef Chris doing great things in the kitchen(if there are fried green tomatoes on the menu, don’t ask questions — just get them). Parking can be an issue; you’re not supposed to use the adjacent lot so beware.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The neighborhoods South of Winston’s are crawling with our four legged friends and their doting owners. So when a bar. that serves food. to people. and dogs hits the scene, the owners have had to anticipate the gold mine to come. For weeks the boyfriend and I have been talking about visiting. Because: 1. we like to eat 2. it’s within walking distance of his casa 3. we can bring each of our little buddy’s with us Walking in, with dogs in tow, we were welcomed pleasantly by the manager and the bartender. The bartender immediately came around the bar to greet the pups and brought out a bowl of ice water and some cooling pads for them to lay on. The menu line up gets to the point and effectively informs you of what you are about to put in your face. Boyfriend got the shrimp tacos(special on the chalkboard) and I got the Texas Bulldog Burger on jalapeño sourdough bread. The burger was cooked to perfection, it was juicy and the bacon was thick and crisp. The bread was fluffy and rich and made for a damn good burger. I have no idea what the tacos were like, except that they were off his plate by the time I lifted my head from my burger. They give you the option of sweet potato or russet thick cut fries with their spicy ketchup. be warned. it is SPICY ketchup(order a glass of water). Feeling guilty about grubbing down in front of your pup? Pick up a bag of treats. That night in particular they had a tuna, veggie and organic unbleached flour in the shape of little dog bones. They were $ 2 for 4 of the 1“x 2″ treats. Happy hour all day Wednesday and Sunday! How did they know that those are my drinking days? Two paws up Winston’s. Here’s to hoping your influence will have similar places popping up around town.
