Gave this place a second chance. felt extremely rushed the first time and once again it happened. Was trying to enjoy my dinner with my girlfriend and before we could even finish, they started clearing our food and the server threw away our sake that still had some left in the bottle and dropped our check. It was still 45 min b4 closing and there wasn’t a wait for tables so I don’t understand the rush. Instead of dropping our check, she could’ve asked if we’d like another sake. which we did, instead of throwing away our bottle without asking. Also we might have wanted dessert. Great food, just sad that restaurants don’t train better. We would’ve had at least one more bottle and dessert. Over a while a company will lose alot of money because of staff like that. Not going back

Love this place and the staff! They work super fast and are very nice! The Sushi is so good. My favorite is Pink Lady. And the shabu is great too! I love when they make it into soup afterwards when u don’t finish it. I Always take it for my lunch to work the next day. Great place for any occasion. I’ll be back for sure! :)

Went here for a birthday dinner and had a great time. They accommodated us as a big group which was out of the norm. Only problem is one of the employees is a thief. Forgot a birthday card that night, called the next morning and it mysteriously disappeared. Isn’t it customary for a reputable restaurant to hold on to paying customers forgotten belongings, not steal them? We later found out, of course, there was a gift card in the birthday card.

I came here with some friends for my birthday dinner, and had Shabu for the first time. We all had a great time. You cook your meat and vegetables in a broth in front of you. They have different sauces to chose from. This would be a good place for a date. The only downside is that it’s difficult to talk to people in a big group, because you all sit next to each other, rather than across from each other. The food was filling and tasted great!

Shabu on Fire is the sister restaurant of Sushi on Fire which is also a couple doors down on Main Street in Huntington Beach The individual pot shabu here is more Japanese style ALTHOUGH you can choose to add a soup base if you choose —6 piece choice beef with spicy pork broth(only $ 11 at lunch!): PERFECT amount of spicy kick, BUT if it’s not enough for you, you can always ask for more hot drops. pretty good over all! it comes with a big veggie plate with udon noodles too they also give you ponzu sauce and sesame sauce, although i had to ask for the house mama spicy sauce NOTE: they offer a brown rice option to eat with your shabu

Great atmosphere, I liked the layout and the sushi was really great. The saki was pretty overpriced and not that good in my opinion but apart from that it was great.

This place is fantastic– and not to mention they have a sushi bar inside as well. If you haven’t tried shabu before, be forewarned that it is addicting! For the amount of food you get, it’s definitely worth the money. One of my favorite places to eat :)

I wasn’t expecting much when I came in this past Sunday with my family, but Shabu on Fire exceeded my expectations! My family and I decided to eat here after a day of enjoying HB’s offerings, and though it was hot, my mama wanted shabu! It was my parents’ first time ever eating personal shabu shabu so I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly.(It did, hence the good rating!) On a Sunday at dinner time, there was no wait but I’ve seen this place packed! Make sure to call ahead like I did! They offer sushi and shabu here, so even if you are seated at the shabu bars, you can still order sushi. Majority of my family went with shabu, and I gotta say… it was great! You can opt for three different soup bases: soy, pork or miso. I always go with miso with a slight kick, and my broth ended up being perfect! As for sauces, the goma was good but the other one… was way too sour for my taste so it went untouched. The goma has more peanut-y flavor, just how I like it. The veggies were fresh and came with sliced green onions, something I don’t usually see, but a nice change up! As we waited for our meats, we ordered a large pineapple sake for my mom’s birthday, and turns out, a large order sake earns you a hot house sake! So more bang for your buck. The pineapple was very subtle… so it was kinda strong, but after a while, the pineapple came out more so it was an easy drink. Good deal, especially if it’s made strong ;) I ordered the second-tier beef choice, «Prime Beef,» and it is the best I have ever had compared to other shabu place’s second choice beef. The slices were thicker and didn’t rip in half when I picked it up. Oh, the marbling was much better quality than I expected to pay for and when it was cooked, it was so soft like… a meat cloud. Excellent meat quality! The 9pc($ 18) filled me up after a mere 3 pieces, I ate a fourth piece on principle and pawned the rest off to my ever-hungrier brother. At the end, like most places, they give you a bigger bowl for all your left over udon and veggies to make a noodle soup. Save some meat for this last bit so you aren’t just eating veggies and noodles. I liked my soup a lot and, PROTIP, even poured the rest of my goma sauce in to add more flavor! Service was consistent, they were not lively in any way, but got the job done. My mom was happy and buzzed at the end, enjoying her birthday green tea ice cream. She had a good time, and that is most important! Shabu on Fire is a solid option when strolling around downtown HB!

Shabu on fire was very fun. Seating at the bar is roomy and the service was prompt. Admittedly, the staff was a little abrupt and cold, but they comped us some sake which was nice. If you haven’t had shabu before, this is a great place to check out. You can choose your own broth and then any other additions. All the beef is sliced thin, so I wouldn’t bother with the higher grade cuts. You won’t notice. The restaurant is very modern and roomy. Drop by after a day at the beach. They have great lunch and sushi options.

This place is pretty big and really nice for a shabu spot and it is located by main street. A lot of people dont know but not only do they serve shabu, they also have the exact same sushi menu as their other sushi store next door(sushi on fire). I came here because i initially wanted sushi but Sushi on Fire was too crowded so one of the employees told us to walk over to their shabu shabu spot next door because it had the exact same menu. We walked there and realize there was barely any people waiting so we got seated immediately. I ended up getting the white dragon roll which consist of halibut on top of what i believe is a spicy tuna shrimp tempura roll soaked in this delicious spicy sauce. I will come back if sushi on fire is too crowded or if i am craving shabu.

My boyfriend and I come here at least once a week, we come here specifically for the sushi bar, I love that it is a wrap around bar and we always make friends with our neighbors. I always look forward to the miso soup! There are so many options to choose from on the menu we can never decide on what to get because it is all so fantabulous! I see some of the reviews complaining about the wait, and the service but this place is definitely worth the wait, and the service has always been 100% up to par, please remember that they are very busy and just enjoy the extra time with your honey, or just people watch. This is Main Street people! It’s going to get busy, especially in the summer, or on Tuesday nights during the Farmer’s market, and the 3rd Thursday of every month during the Art Walk.

Shabu On Fire was delicious! Before coming to Shabu, we stopped into Sushi on Fire — just a tip to everyone, the host there was one of the most rude people I’ve ever encountered. She yells in your face about the wait time, how busy it is, and tells you to get out of her way. It was almost like I thought it was a joke because she was so rude! We left there and went straight to Shabu on Fire because it’s the same menu, and just a few steps down. The service and vibe here was night and day compared to sushi on fire! We were greeted right away with a smile, and everyone who worked there was super sweet to us. We were seated within 15 minutes! The menu has tons of choices! The miso soup was SOGOOD, and our sushi was amazing! It was warm and fresh, and they had yummy sauces. We also had vegetable tempura, which was yummy too, but hotter than I thought, aka it burnt my mouth off! Oh well, worth it. I also got fried rice and it was delicious. Everything I ate was honestly amazing — so fresh, warm, and tasty! I give 5 stars because this place has amazing food and sushi, and the service rocks! Thank you Shabu!

I’ve been here to eat sushi but this was my first time trying Shabu. I tried the beef and chicken and it was good. Thought I would only eat a little but ended up eating 20 pieces of each with my friend. The remainder of the broth they made into a soup which helped out with my sore throat. I was pleased with everything I had and would order it all over again. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

I’m not sure if anyone really comes to huntington beach to eat shabu… I mean when you think huntington beach downtown, you probably think let’s get some beers, or let’s go eat something that is easy for a big group, or you go to duke’s for some surf and turf. On our particular staycation to the waterfront hilton, we decided to venture out to eat some asian food, and looking at Unilocal, shabu on fire popped up. While the name was a bit americanized, the reviews weren’t shabby so we thought we’d give it a shot. There is actually a sushi spot on the same strip that is also named ‘sushi on fire’ so I guess they didn’t get too crazy with naming the two places. The food and service is quite good. You can get combos or just beef for your meats. We opted for a big serving of beef, and for the 2nd order some scallops and chicken. The chicken was actually quite tender but you always manage to overcook it in fears of salmonella. The scallop is very fresh as well. We were thinking it could go either way because of the location(but it is by the beach…). The meat quality was good as well, the choice was not too fatty just the way we like it. You can actually get flavoring for your broth, even though traditional japanese shabby you don’t have flavored broth. They have good choices including miso, bone broth, spicy options, and soy based options. If you want to do it proper, ask for no broth until the end when you are ready to eat your noodles. The service is excellent, if you order a lot they also give you free sake! Win.

Awesome experience! I was in town for work and someone at our hotel recommend we try Sushi on Fire. I had been wanting to try Shabu so I was really excited when we arrived and saw that they offered it. I equate it to the Melting Pot for Japanese food, but you can also get anything on the menu while sitting at the Shabu counters. We explained that this was our first time and our waiter took us through everything step by step, and even concocted his«special broth» for my friend and I. I had the shrimp Shabu and it was delicious. I wish I wasn’t staying in a hotel so I could have taken it back with me! I will definitely be going back the next time I’m in the area!
