Absolutely love this restaurant! I have been coming here as far back as I can remember, ever since I was a little kid. The family that owns this place has always treated me and anyone else I’ve ever come here with with the utmost kindness. Many sushi restaurants are on the more expensive side, but I find Sushi Top to be very reasonably priced, with the same quality rolls that you can find at other places. I absolutely love their spicy tuna rolls and their specialty volcano roll! As long as I live in Huntington Beach, I will always be a customer here:)

First time eating here… I now have a new go-to sushi spot for casual dining. Outstanding quality sushi and rolls… great prices. Atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. The place is small, as long as you appreciate that a restaurant run by three people is going to slow service a bit, you’ll never go anyplace else.

Tried this place on a Friday night. Sushi is your basic grocery store rolls. Cold rice, basic rolls. Won’t go back, not sure why people say it’s the best they have had. They need to try Irasse, magnolia and adams.

Went here last night with a few friends. Wanted to branch out from our normal Friday routine. The waitress was really sweet and attentive. With that said, the restaurant was dead for Friday at 730. We ordered edamame, some nigiri, and a few rolls. The nigiri was lackluster. Not good or bad. The rolls were not great either. They use the processed, mixed up crab meat and mayo as the filling for most of their rolls. The cruncy roll was terrible. Just a battered and deep fried sushi roll monstrosity. TL;DR — the food is comparable to the mass produced, pre-packaged sushi you find in grocery stores. Don’t bother.

This place is possibly the best sushi place I’ve eaten. And I have been around! Not an overly complicated menu filled with sauces that try to cover up the taste of fish. This place has good fresh fish lightly sauced with a nice touch & no Korean cheese sauce or whatever that crap is. They seem to keep it pretty simple. This is fish! Tastes great! The chef is from Japan. The rest of the staff is great too. Prices are good. I love it. I drive 15 minutes or more out of my way to get past the lesser guys to get to this place, as often as possible. Any place else is a poor substitute.

I’ve been coming here for years and this place has never disappointed me. The food is very affordable and the sushi really good compared to other sushi places in the area. I’ve been to many places that try to over do it on creativity, but sushi top likes to keep things simple. Definitely will be back.

We have been going there since it opened. When it was just a take away place. We have been going there regularly ever since. The quality of the food has been up and down. But we figured we were supporting a small business. Earlier this week my brother went there to eat. The owner did something we have seen him do before. His repeat refill if his beer cup. My brother said it was all off that night. Tonight I went in to pick up a to go order. I ordered it and I was sitting at a table, and my mom sat in a chair at the next table. There were two customers in the place, and the parking lot way empty. The owner roughly told us to pick one or the other table. If someone would have come in we would have moved right away. But he barked at us to move. So we did. My mother then decided to wait in the car. If I hadn’t already paid for the food, I would have cancelled the order. The food was nothing great. As a matter of fact the chicken had nerves and stringy So after years of being loyal customers, we are never going back there again.

Great price! Great food! Great service!!! They are so family friendly! The deep fried items are something else. I really recommend everybody this place.

By far one of the best sushi places ever. Owned by a Japanese family that knows the importance of quality sushi. He gets the fresh fish daily, and it’s proven in the taste. Great happy hour specials that go until 8:30! $ 1 sushi, discounted rolls and beer… can’t beat it! This is truly a hidden gem!

Don’t know what I would do without this place. I come here regularly(at least once or twice a month) and I’ve been coming here since I was in high school. The prices are super reasonable and the food is tasty. I think my favorite thing about this place is that it’s still a sit down place where you can enjoy your meal but without the more formal feeling of a restaurant with more expensive prices. I don’t eat sushi so unfortunately I can’t comment on it(although the sushi-eaters I go with say it’s good!) but everything else I have eaten I like very much. I go with my parents, boyfriend, best friend, cousins, and all sorts of combinations of the above groups. The owners are really nice too and know us since we’ve been coming so long. It’s nice to support a place like theirs that’s not a chain.

This is my family’s go to place on the weekend when we have no dinner plans. Love their una don and crunchy roll here. The prices are fairly reasonable and the food is delicious. My only complaint is the past two times they were missing one bowl of miso soup with my order. Be sure to double check your take out orders.

When it comes to sushi in HB, its hard to compete with Full Moon. For the majority of people Sushi Top wouldn’t win in a contest between the two, but if Full Moon was closed I’d have no qualms about coming here. This is a standard but pretty solid sushi place. We ordered two rolls, volcano and spider, as well as a Poke bowl. The Poke bowl was absolutely delicious so I have to mention it first. Full Moon’s Poke bowl has more fish, but Sushi Top’s is much more flavorful. The marinade is very mildly spicy and gave the fish a unique flavor. The fish cuts were very tender, which was surprising since Poke is usually made with tougher and less desirable cuts of fish. The bowl also had avocado on it, a nice touch that added creaminess to balance the spice of the Poke marinade. Spider roll was my favorite roll. It came with a small lemon wedge which made it all the more appetizing. My only issue with the roll was that it did not have any eel sauce on it! Spider rolls almost always have eel sauce to balance the saltiness(or lemony-ness in this case) with sweet! I really think if they drizzled some sauce on they’d have a great seller with the spider roll. Volcano roll wasn’t so great. Instead of being whole scallops baked on top, it was a ground up paste of mystery fish and/or scallops that had a very fishy taste. It was baked, but it had not been rolled tight enough so the pieces unwrapped while we ate. The roll was passable, but certainly nothing I’d order again. I’ve had the crunchy roll here before and its horrible. It just tastes like rice with a layer of oily batter around it, since all they do is stick the entire roll in the deep fryer. They really need to change that… Or at least offer a «regular» crunchy roll option. I guess its creative, but there’s a reason everyone loves Full Moon’s crunchy roll.

I’d probably give this 2.5 stars, but I feel bad for the owners cause they were really nice so I’ll round up to 3. Place was almost completely empty when I walked in. There’s two people working the front. I think the sushi chef and the server are husband and wife. And there’s a couple people in the back somewhere. Place is really old, retro style. Probably been here for like ten years. There’s a «happy hour» from 12−2pm where beer and sake is 1 dollar and a couple discounts on some of the rolls and sushi pieces. Fish quality was blah. It wasn’t fishy or rotten tasting, but it seemed to lack flavor. I got the salmon, albacore, tuna, and this chewy crab thing I forgot the name of. The slices of fish were also really thin too. I also ordered the albacore and spicy tuna rolls. They almost fell apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks. Is it because they were cheap rolls? IDK. I also ordered the spider roll, which was pretty decent. I’d opt out of getting any of the cheaper rolls if I ever came here again. They also seem to have some pretty good lunch specials from 5 – 10 dollars that come with sushi and chicken teriyaki. I might opt for that if I ever return. Happy eats!

This is a favorite of ours. We have been there probably 30 times, and have never been disappointed! I always ask what the owner recommends that day — and it’s always great! The waiter we get most often is a very nice guy from Japan; Dai(sp?) He is in the Master’s program at USC for music. He always remembers us. We even have friends that visit from the east coast and request that we go there multiple times during their stay. I honestly don’t remember how I found out about this place, but I’m glad I did.

Small joint. I would stick to the party platters. Quality is average. Wait staff is nice but when I have ordered party platters in advance, I still have to wait when I arrive.

Sorry Sushi Top. You’re more like Sushi Flop. And I’m a very easy to please sushi person… I mean… I think Todai is decent, so you already have a leg up on me. But seriously the food here is gross. 1) Their salmon egg is this bizarre yellow color and not the bright red that we’re all used to. I decided to try a tiny egg just to test, and it was dis-gus-ting. 2) I ordered a crunchy roll and they just batter the entire thing and deep fry it. Are you kidding me??? Oil was dripping from it. Aweful. 3) Their hot green tea is all powder. Talk about cutting corners. It looks like this place is in desperate need for an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.

Excellent value sushi! Better than most $$ Restaurants. Delicious seaweed salad with dressing on the side, the very generous portion went very quickly. My sesame chicken was on the chewy side and I wouldn’t get it again but would gladly come back for the rolls. I liked the friendly service and the fact that the place is super small is comforting. They don’t have natto which is def a bummer and the place was full of large white people who are probably the target customer, but overall I can see coming back here when the sushi budget is tight.
