I stopped going to Seaholm years ago because I felt they were overpriced. The same brand at Seaholm was more than the liquor store down the block. But I went back recently and was pleasantly surprised. They have the brands of wine I like and there prices are in-line or less than the competition. That works for me! I read the other views about a language barrier but I never experienced any issues. I find the new owners very nice.

the décor is very inviting but the staffs knowledge of the products they sell is lackluster. the language barrier has alot to do with this. Not very helpful in helping me make my selections for wines or liquors

This place is very good, but it is very difficult to communicate with the people that work there because they don’t speak very much English. It makes it tough to get good recommendations.

This place is under new ownership now and the new staff is MUCH friendlier. I actually stopped coming to this liquor store because of the staff in the past but once I heard that there were new owners I decided to try it again and I was pleasantly surprised. There is a huge selection of wine here but the majority of the choices range from $ 20-$ 50. There aren’t a lot of options under $ 20. I don’t think the set up is very smart, I spent a good amount of time looking for a Malbec and really thought they didn’t sell any. I had to ask somebody and they guided me to the section which was right next to the Gin and Vodka bottles away from the rest of the reds. Odd. This is the place I will go back to if I want to buy a nice bottle for somebody. As far as buying wine for every day use I prefer something a little cheaper and there isn’t a huge selection for that here.

Here is my problem with NY liquor laws… I moved to New York from Germany almost 3 years ago. In Germany, you can buy any type of wine in any store, including grocery stores, and the prices are very reasonable… with not of all the stupid taxes we got here. For example, I can buy a bottle of my favorite Chilean wine, Castillo Los Boldos, in Germany at the grocery store for $ 7.00USD(even with the outrageous dollar-Euro exchange rate). I found the same wine at Seaholm’s and the price was $ 25! What? Why is that??? The bottle traveled more from Chile to Germany and it is cheaper over there than here? Duh… I found out that there is a law, over a century old, that states that alcohol cannot be sold where food is sold. The law has changed to allow just beer to be sold at grocery stores. But not wine or hard liquor… Why? Because all of these type of wine shops and liquor stores have«banned» together and lobby politicians to avoid the law to be repealed as most citizens and major grocery stores want. If the law is repealed, the price of wine and alcohol will be lowered due to competition… and, sadly, some of these wine shops will go out of business… but that is the benefit of competition. Meanwhile, continue to over pay for wine and alcohol at Seaholm’s… I go to visit my family in Puerto Rico, and I can buy great bottles of wines at Costco, for less than $ 10. Same ones here cost double. Finally, some stores like Trader Joe’s are getting around the law by creating«annex» liquor stores(i.e. Trader Joe’s Annex in Manhattan). But according to the law they cannot be connected to the inside of the store(duh…) and open only at certain times…(double duh…) Back to Seaholm’s Wines… They have a great selection of wines and hard liquor organized by region and types. I have noticed that price of certain wines, champagnes and hard liquor have been lowered… is it the economy hurting them too??? The only reason why I gave it a 3-star is because they are the only major wine shop near Huntington village that sells the wines we like. Repeal that old-outdated-stupid law!!!
