The whole family loves Slim Chickens. The food is delicious, the wait time is minimal, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant is well kept. I always get the chicken & waffles. Three chicken strips on top of a buttered waffle. It never disappoints. They initially had spare bottles of syrup, but now they will give extra syrup upon request. My wife usually orders a chicken strip plate and upgrades the side to fried mushrooms. They are quite tasty and crispy. It also comes with Texas toast. Our son alternates sharing with both of us. Anytime he wants to go out for chicken, we know he means Slims.

This place was great. Chicken was delicious and place was clean. Staff friendliness was good not SUPER great but overall good. Only complaint is I didn’t even know it was there until I drove past. I would suggest more advertising AND another locale somewhere near downtown, plaza or a bit further west. I will for sure return but only if I am out that way.

Love this place! Chicken is delicious and atmosphere is great. A few times we’ve gone the wait time for our food was long but it was because they were so busy and the food is well worth it.

A bit surprised when we walked in as to the décor and style of restaurant. Modern looking with good sense of décor. Very very clean. Ordered just the ordinary chicken strips basket and found it to piping hot with good fries. I wouldn’t say it was any better than other places but certainly wasn’t disappointed. Glad we tried it!

We visited last night and I tried something new. I always get chicken and Mac n cheese but last night I tried the chicken and waffles and it was excellent when they brought it out hot and fresh. I had no problem getting extra syrup and my son extra ranch as their manager Jason always seems to be in 10 different spots. He is very efficient and quick, along with being friendly. One thing I appreciate is that they always bring you silverware out and don’t expect you to get it yourself. That is a little extra in their service. It may be a little(and I mean small) overpriced, but their meals do come with drinks. We visit all the time when we are over there and will continue to. You should definitely try the chicken and waffles!

Thought it was really good. Everything was served hot and fresh. I thought the honey mustard was too mustardy with not enough honey, but the ranch was top notch. Knocked this one out of the park. I will be back. Service was quick and polite. Super happy!

This place has so much potential. Put some gravy and cheese on those chicken and waffles, throw on some REAL maple syrup and comp my last meal, I might go back!

I’d never been here but heard about this Arkansas chain coming to KC. Finding myself in a pinch for lunch, I landed here and can safely say it’s not the kind of place for me. The idea to me seems so similar to Chick-Fil-A(all politics aside), but the food just didn’t do it for me. I ordered a combo so I got a tea to drink with it. The Peach Tea tasted like that syrup they use to make snow cones at the pool. Seriously the thickest, sweetest thing I’d ever drank. NOPE. The chicken tenders were not that good. They didn’t pat the grease off them so they were dripping in it, and to top it off, each one was tough. Usually the tenders are. well you know, tender. I ate them, but I’m not proud of myself for it. I also ordered a side salad instead of fries for a small upcharge and the salad reminded me of a salad you order from a meat-centric place that basically has to have them on the menu. A generic dressing over a small bed of greens and not much else.

On my way to see The Force Awakens and I needed dinner. Perfect time to try Slim Chickens. It was ok, nothing special, nothing horrible. I ordered a combination that included both wings and tenders. I liked the wings. The mango habenero sauce is delicious, but has a good kick. They forgot my blue cheese so there was nothing to tame the heat. The tenders were juicy, but there was not much for a coating. It actual reminded me of naked chicken we use to make with no batter or breading on tenders. They also had gristle. The winners of the meal, the mac and cheese, one of the best fast foodish mac and cheese sides you will find, and the dessert parfait thing. I could do without the jar gimmick and a better price though for the parfait. I washed down my meal with a peach tea. To me it was sweet tea and there was no hint of peach. Maybe a mistake, but wasn’t a hit if not. Service is ok. Can be a little slow, but they cook to order. I would probably go back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

I’ll start with the good: we received fantastic customer service from Aaron at the counter when we arrived. He was very personable and helpful explaining the menu. Also, the manager we dealt with was very courteous and polite in taking care of the issues we had with our food. And therein lies the problem: the food. My fiancé and I both ordered chicken tender meals and some fried pickles to share. The pickles are battered and fried crinkle cut pickle slices. I thought they were fried fine, the fiancé thought they weren’t crispy enough. However, we both agreed they were way too salty and a little greasier than expected. The chicken tenders were much smaller than you’d expect for the price. Bigger chicken and no Texas toast would be much better deal. Also, the chicken was pretty dry. The fries weren’t very fresh and were just lukewarm. The fiancé took his back and asked for fresh fries. Again, the manager was polite and brought a completely fresh meal out to him. The manager also checked back later. Final verdict: good customer service, but not good enough for us to overlook food that wasn’t very good and was overpriced.

Maybe I made my first visit to Slim Chickens in Independence, MO on an «off day» but I do not think that this fast food chicken restaurant will, in any way, Change my Life(as it says on the web site and on the back of the tee shirts that serve as uniforms for the employees). The menu is quite limited, relying solely upon Chicken Tenders and Chicken Wings in various versions, including a couple of salads dressed with tenders, or tenders tucked inside several Wraps or as an accompaniment topping a Waffle. Both the tenders and the wings can also come in a basket with one side, Texas Toast and a medium drink. There are a choice of nearly a dozen dipping sauces, including BBQ, Sweet ‘n Sour, Ranch and, the two that I chose with my Sims Plate(5 Tenders), Blue Cheese and Mango Habanero. The default side for all combos is Fries but you may swap them for any of 8 others, sometimes for an upchange. I actually love chicken, and tenders or wings can be very satisfying. But Slim Chickens’ tenders were disappointing to me for a very essential reason. Good fried chicken lives or dies, for me, by the crunch of the batter making up the crust. Sadly, the breading was just not uniformly crispy and was also relatively bland. The chicken, itself, was tender and juicy, so I will probably give them a second chance. But, for now, my «favorite thing» about this restaurant chain is it’s name. Any place with«Chicken» right in the name should REALLY be sure that their chicken is absolutely first rate.

***Slim Chickens feels like it could be a good fast food joint; the restaurant has a clean and modern look, the menu definitely feels like a fast food spot but there are enough twists(like mason jars filled with parfait layered-like desserts) to make you think their food is going to be better than your run-of-the-mill fast food restaurant, and there are not too many locations; unfortunately, while there are a few bright spots(like the really good fried mushrooms), Slim Chickens has a similar quality to that of a Wingstop and might not feel significantly more satisfying than your more well known fast food chains*** Throughout the country you will find restaurants like Slim Chickens – a fast food spot with multiple locations but also with a local flair given that they are only available in select parts of the country and they have not expanded enough where you might have read or heard about their food. This Slim Chickens(right off the freeway and at the same exit as a Bass Pro Shop) definitely looks the part. The restaurant has a nice, clean and modern look. And the menu has a few interesting touches. Slim Chickens mostly offers chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried sides, and salads with the same traditional list of fast food salad ingredients you would get anywhere, but there are a few interesting touches too like fried okra or mason jars filled with parfait layered-like desserts(one mason jar combined cheesecake squares with layers of whipped cream and chocolate and peanut butter mousse). Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food as much as I was wanting to. I opted for a Buffalo chicken wrap and the first thing I noticed was that it was not wrapped that well. It also did not burst with flavor, intensity or heat. The lettuce and tomato were both fresh though the kitchen was skimpy on the portions. The chicken tenders were not bad, but they were not that juicy and the exterior was more like a southern fried crust than a crispy, crunchy crust that many guests might be expecting. Overall, I feel Wingstop delivers noticeably more satisfying and moist chicken strips with more memorable sauces. The sides were nicely done though. The fried pickles might have had too much tanginess and an overwhelming sour note, but they were well prepared. The French fries were hot and crisp. The fried mushrooms were a real standout. They were standard white button mushrooms and, of course, these mushrooms hold quite a bit of water so they release a fair amount of burning liquid when you bite into them, but the batter was really good. Nice and light. Fried mushrooms are popular in the middle of the country and Slim Chicken’s fried mushrooms were definitely a respectable version. For dessert, I had their fried apple pie. I was hoping though not expecting their fried apple pie might deliver the very guilty pleasure of the long gone fried apple pie at McDonald’s where burning hot made-for-the-masses apple pie filling would be encased in an incredibly crispy and freshly fried exterior, but that was not the case. The outside crust was really just a standard pie crust in an empanada shape. It was a decent dessert and there was nothing wrong with it, but I would not order it again. Service was fine. Prices were okay. They have a lot of sides and desserts so your bill can really start to add up here if you are not careful. Slim Chickens is an okay fast food joint. I would not recommend seeking this one out, but if you are passing by and need something quick, this is a decent option and slightly better than big name fast food restaurants across the country. This Slim Chickens has its own free parking lot and it is very easy finding an open space.

There are several poor reviews on here, and I’m not sure if it’s from their stumbles upon opening last year, or something else, but a year later… it’s much better I assure you. Every time we’ve been here, the meals have been good! Chicken and waffles… check! Been there, done that. Chicken with fries… check! Big salad with chicken… yep! Although let’s be honest, I wouldn’t get the salad again. It’s not bad, it’s just lettuce from a bag with chicken on top. Not a well thought out meal. Now, if they made a fresh salad with toppings and chicken, I’d reconsider. The fried okra was AWESOME! Yummy. Love any place that serves up HOT, CRISPY, SEASONED fried okra. Slim’s delivers on that for sure! The building is one of the best parts for me. It’s in a big open space, like an industrial barn. Very open and casual. When in Independence, give them a try. I think they’ve survived their growing pains and would treat you right!

Slim chicken restaurant, readily seen from highway 470, near 40 highway, is an area that just seems to keep adding new places all the time. This place is kinda tucked in, but it’s worth finding, and has some really good things going for it. The place is fashioned like a big open barn, crossed with the stainless steel look so popular at chipotle, throw in some patio seating and the place is very inviting. Everything about slim chicken is simple, even I can understand it. Straightforward menu, limited options, meals include drinks, simple seating, they bring the food out, simple service, everything just seems simple, and easy. I like it, wife likes, the kids like it… I guess the saying, «winner, winner, chicken dinner», applies here… on to the food… We did three«slim dinners», that’s 5 tenders, a side, Texas toast, and a drink, and the«chicken and waffle»…I’ve never figured out the connection between the two, but my wife ate the whole thing, then got a jar desert to go… more on that later. 2 fries and 1 fried pickles, rounded out our order, add several flavored sauces, and sweet tea, oh yeah, and damn, slim chicken, was damn good… still hot, the slightly spiced, lightly battered tenders were spot on, add thin cut fries and pickles, throw a couple pieces of buttered Texas toast on top, and we were treated to a southern chicken meal… The capper was the desert in a jar. Several flavors were displayed in the fridge, just inviting you to take them home. The souvenir mason jar, etched with slim chicken logo, was filled with either fudge, brownie, Heath, or an apple combination, layered with whipped cream and nuts and crust, all chilled and waiting to be attacked in house, or at home. The wife had the brownie, and gave it two thumbs up, for the taste, and the jar. Overall, slim chicken puts out a tasty meal, in a simple package. Give it a try… this Unilocaler is a fan…

Slim Chickens is another entrant into the«good fast food» market that’s popped up somewhere in between the«terrible fast food» and«fast casual» markets in the US. This scene includes places like Culvers, Steak and Shake, etc, and in general the pricing, service level, atmosphere, and quality of food is going to be on the same level. Slim Chickens is a good entrant, too. The chicken is nice quality. The wings are really quite good, almost as good as BWW and perhaps a bit better than Wingstop. The chicken strips are lightly breaded and taste fresher than those at «terrible fast food» level restaurants. The fries are also good, as are the other sides I’ve tried including the potato salad. Most meals come with a side of texas toast as well, which is good also. The downside? It’s a bit pricey for a place with a drive-through. This is true of Culvers, etc, as well. For about the same price, you could eat«fast casual» like Chipotle or Panera. But where is that line anymore? It seems to be blurring a lot nowadays, with Paneras opening up with drive throughs and upscale fast food joints like Slim Chickens offering more diverse fresh menu offerings(like the desserts on offer here.) One big upside? A nice, clean patio to eat on. Good times when it’s nice out. Everything I’ve had here so far has been pretty good. It’s a very chicken-heavy menu as you might guess. If you like chicken, and you want some chicken, and you don’t want to have to cook the chicken yourself — or slaughter it yourself, for that matter — you should consider stopping by Slim Chickens.

Love the environment and the outdoor patio with TV’s. The food is good but greasy so have to be in the mood for that. Love that it’s like getting food from a full service restaurant but they have a drive thru. I would recommend this place for a quick bite!

My hubby and I grew up just 45 minutes away from the first Slim Chickens in Fayetteville but tried it for the first time a few days ago here at the Independence location since we moved away. I’m disappointed we didn’t visit one sooner. For being newly opened we got in quick and had no problems finding a table. The service was great. Smiling faces when we entered and left as well as hello and goodbyes. I ordered the chicken and waffles. This was my first and they were very tasty. The chicken was excellent but I’ve had a better waffle. Although the employee that took our order said they were great so I’ll have to come back and try another sometime. My hubby got chicken and fries and enjoyed every bit. Two thumbs up!

I’m editing my review because there was a little too much negative emotion in the last one. I’m not changing my rating, just the words. My first impression was the price. Buffalo Blues Salad and 6 small chicken wing pieces totaled $ 15.18. The salad was warm, even where the chicken was not touching it. Like it had been sitting out for a while. It was half-wilted and brown around the edges. The chicken they put on it was good, but the prepared bag lettuce made the whole thing unpalatable. The wings were of the same variety as other chain wing joints, very small wing pieces… not wings… pieces. Running into feathers on them was it for me and this particular meal. It was minutes before they closed so I called and told them about the food. I was right up the street and wanted to bring it back. The Assistant Manager didn’t know what to do since he was so new. He promised he’d have the manager call me back in a few minutes. No one ever called. I did take it back the next night and they did give me my money back. For the price and quality of food and service, I doubt I go back. Maybe they’ll hit their stride after a while.
