Steak N Shake

Worst drive thru experience EVER! I was in the drive thru line for over 25 minutes. At least 2 drivers ahead of me left, after placing their order, which I’m sure screwed up the orders. Anyway, when I finally got to the window, the girl said nothing about the wait, just asked me what I had ordered. I repeated the order to her and she told me the total. She put my money in the drawer without giving me my change. Sitting there, looking in the drive thru window was a bit like watching an episode of the 3 stooges. Very unorganized and no one really seemed to know what they should be doing. When she finally opened the window to hand me my order, she asked if I would like any salt or ketchup, to which I replied that I would like my change. She got a very surprised look on her face and then had to have someone help her figure out how to open the drawer to get my change. When I got home and opened my order I was not very happy. I had ordered 3 BBQ shooters with pickles. I received 3 shooters buns with BBQ sauce and a tiny bit of meat that didn’t even cover half of the tiny shooters bun, and no pickles. The buns were hard and the meat cool. I have eaten inside and know that you can normally at least see the meat that is supposed to be on the bun and it is warm. It will be a very, very long time before I spend my money or time at this Steak N Shake, again! Not good, not good at all!

Very disappointed. For the amount of money we paid for burgers, fries and shakes, you’d think the food would be decent. I love Steak n Shake, but u should avoid this one. It was dirty and the burgers were cold. My «butterfinger» milk shake had microscopic pieces of butterfinger. The floor and the bathrooms were nasty. I can’t understand why Steak n Shake can’t do a better job of ensuring each establishment has the same standards.

I love this burger joint! It’s Chili 5 Way is outstanding!

This location is very dirty. My mom was in town and had memories of going to this place with my dad. I previously lived up north and fell in love with this place there! I went to get her and I food here and sat in the drive thru for 30 minutes. If the parking lot or drive thru line was long, it would make sense. During that 30 minutes waiting I saw 3 cars get out of line and drive away. I ordered and it was uncomfortable, I believe I was told to order, so I begun, but then I was interrupted stating they weren’t ready. During the order I found out they were out of Chili at 7 PM. I placed my order and drove up to the window, it was so greasy, I’ve included a picture. As I was waiting for my food I saw a lady come to the grill with a clean scraper, put it down and then throw hamburger buns, that were cooking on the grill top, onto the ground. She laughed and picked back up the clean scraper and put it in its place. After this I saw a different lady examine a cooked sandwich by picking it up and squeezing it, then opening it, touching the insides which looked under cooked, and putting it back together. After this she served the sandwich, she had no gloves on while she was touching it. Immediately after this I knocked on the window and asked for a manager. I told her what occurred, gave her back my food and asked for a refund. She tried but came back saying she was new and didn’t know how to refund. She then said her General Manager would be in at 10 tomorrow and took my information for them to call me. About 45 minutes later I received a call from the new manager, NOT the General Manager. She apologized and said she passed on the feedback and offered me a $ 10 gift card. My order was $ 17.41. I don’t understand why, for one, the General Manager didn’t contact me to take a full complaint, and, for two, why they gave me a gift card below what I paid. This location has a lot of opportunities. Also, the manager who called me dialed me at 10:49 PM and left a voicemail of just random people talking, obviously an accident. This is why the General Manager should have called me.

If I could give negative stars I would. Waited over 10 minutes after being seated. Never spoken to by staff. Bathroom was filthy. I LOVE steak and shake but this is the worst I’ve ever seen. I live in California so when I see a steak and shake I get excited. NEVER again. Not this one, not any other, ever.

Even though we’ve been here quite a few times in the past year, I have yet to experience the bad service and food some of the other reviewers are talking about. This is one of me and my son’s go to spots when mom is out of town. Good variety of burgers and other sandwiches, hot dogs, salads etc. Always tasty and hot. Service isn’t always the fastest but it’s always friendly. The place isn’t always the cleanest but it’s never horrible. If you’ve ever been to Golden Corral, this place is immaculate. For all of you who are never going back, thank you! That’s just an open table for us! Oh yeah, they have great shakes, too. If you’re expecting a fine dining experience, this isn’t the place you’re looking for. If you’re wanting a good burger and fries with a tasty shake for cheaper than the fast food joints in town, stop on in.

First impression driving in the parking lot, someone really needs to get out there and pick up the trash, second impression we walk in and are not greeted and we notice a waitress with an obvious attitude disagreeing with a customer on what they ordered, finally we sit down and my daughter excuses herself to use the facilities, she comes back and tells me how disgusting the women’s room is, as I looked around there were 3 tables yet to be bussed while they are not busy at all and staff chatting it up in the kitchen, the wall separating the seating from the drink area looks like grease was smeared instead of cleaned, and the place has the odor of grease, the carpets need swept. Frankly I was ready to go before we ordered because I thought the food cannot be as bad as the surroundings and it wasn’t I got the patty melt, when I got it it looked good but tasted at most, okay! …the fries were not hot… Luke warm at best. This place has a ton of improvement to do before I will darken the doors again

This wasn’t our first bad visit to this location, but I figured after three horrible experiences why not share with others. We walked in and though there were plenty of open tables only two were clean. We stood and waited for about 3 minutes until a manager just coming on duty walked in and sat is. We sat for about 15 min never once did anyone come bring drinks or take our order. Two waitresses even walked right by us and looked at us. The couple that came in behind us got waters Anna placed their orrder. Again, three fails and we will never return here.

We had a most frustrating evening. We came across town after my granddaughter’s concert due to their 4 dollar menu. An hour later we still hadn’t received our food. Through all of the apologies by our waiter and the manager on staff it really didn’t help in the end when the food finally came and the majority of it was cold. For the entire hour that we were there or more many tables were never touched or cleaned off. Their comment to us was that we had no idea we would have this kind of business late on a Monday night. Ultimately, they did provide our drinks for free and I’m not sure what else to help pacify our experience. In the end it’ll be awhile before we go back, if ever. The restaurant just isn’t well taken care of from all aspects. This restaurant has been like this for quite some time. Something needs to be done about it. It’s just not clean.

Talk about nasty, this place represents that word. It’s cheap because it’s not worth much. The patty melt was greasy onions on thin bread. I think there was a hamburger on there but not sure.

I love the Frisco melt. Food does not come fast, but the servers try hard. Prices are reasonable for the budget minded.

The service here is extraordinarily poor. I have eaten here many times in the past, having worked in the vicinity for twenty years. My visits have become fewer and further apart. After today I will not return.
I entered the restaurant at 11:30 intending to have lunch with my son. After slipping on a wet spot on the tile floor we were finally sat. We decided what we wanted and set the menus aside to wait for the server. The server never came. There were two or three servers and a couple of managers. The restaurant was nearly empty and yet no one saw fit to ask if we needed water or what we would like to eat.
We waited a full 20 minutes and finally left. This restaurant is a monument to lethargy and apathy.

Steak and Shake isn’t bad. For a quick meal, I prefer them to McDonalds. Whatever Steak and Shake are doing, they are doing well.
I wrote a Steak and Shake review on this place in 2012. I think it might have been scathing. It’s in another review somewhere on Unilocal.They have changed since then.
I like Steak and Shake. If you are coming home late at night, this is a great place to stop, and the only place to open late around here. For $ 3,99−4.99 you get a decent burger, and a plate of fries. The fries are thin, and I like them.
There are several types of burgers to choose from, and don’t forget those shakes! I like that they change up their menu throughout the seasons.
The service has been really good the last few times we visited. The service and staffing has entirely turned around. They are courteous.
Since I waited a year, and started returning to Steak and Shake, they have drastically improved.

Only place other than Denny’s around here where you can go inside after Midnight. Which is important if you’re on a bike.
For the first time in a long time when I was done eating, I was glad I went here. They immediately took my order. I didn’t wait for it very long. And a double-​cheeseburger and fries was less than $ 5.
The shoestring fries were the best I’ve ever had here. They are ALWAYS overcooked, which is easy to do, but this morning they were perfect! The cheeseburger was juicy and had that nice flattop char on it. The lettuce, onion, and pickle were all fresh-​tasting. Overall it was quite delicious!
I am a little shocked how good everything was. Maybe you need to go here at 12:30AM to get good food and service. Kudos to the guys working tonight!

One of the worst service experiences I’ve had in my life. While the host seated us immediately, in the time that it took for the waiter to get to us, we had time to decide what we wanted, as well as change our minds several times. Our waiter was very glib and uninterested. His overall disposition was like he didn’t want to be there. Then, our water wasn’t filled all the way and had very little ice, and tasted off. Other patrons complained that they had been waiting for refills. The floor looked unkept. When our shakes arrived, (a cookies and cream and dark chocolate) they both tasted like metal. When I ordered, I ordered a Frisco melt add bacon, but when my order came, instead of having it on the sandwich, our waiter stated that the bacon was being cooked, and would have it out in a few minutes. I ate half of it by the time it got to me, and the point was to have it on the sandwich when I arrived.
When we left, it took five minutes to pay for our meal, and that was only after being noticed by the manager in the kitchen, who was wearing a dirty, stained shirt. Needless to say, nobody got tipped.

We don’t come here often because it seems that something always goes wrong with our order, and today was no different. My husband and I ordered shakes with no whipped cream, to start, and our waitress forgot that part. I also ordered 3 different sliders and fries… And got one burger instead, because she entered my order incorrectly. After she put it in correctly, it took forever for my food to come out. I ended up getting my meal to go because the rest of my family had already finished eating. I will NOT be back here again.

The Steak N Shake is one of the places our family will get together for burgers, fries and (OF COURSE) a shake after we’ve been shopping or to a movie at the $ 2 Show.
Both the burgers and fries are tasty but their shakes are exceptional and the hard part is deciding which flavor you want to order. It’s a fun place for kids of all ages and has the feel of an old fashioned 50s place.
My favorite shake is still chocolate but once in a while I go for strawberry. There are also a lot of specialty shakes with flavors like Butterfinger or Mint cookies and cream.
I like the Frisco Patty Melt and I like the Double Steak Cheese Burger. Both are served with generous portions of skinny-​cut crispy french fries. There are also lots of other traditional fast-​food type foods like chili mac and chili cheese dogs and cheese fries, chicken sandwiches and even a couple of salads. But my feeling is pretty much IF YOU WANT SOMETHING HEALTHY or GOOD FOR YOU… what are you doing at Steak N Shake?

I’ve been going to this Steak N Shake location ever since I was a young teenager. The place has sentimetal value; it’s where my friends and I always went after high school dances.
I only go there now for the cheese fries because I adore anything smothered in cheese.
No matter what time of day you go, the service is SLOW… and by slow, I mean slower than a turtle with a limp.
The burgers always fall apart, so I usually just stick to cheese fries and sometimes a milkshake (the orange shakes are pretty good).
Basically, it’s the middle of the night «I’m too drunk to care about quality and service» type of food.

This was my first time to a Steak and Shake. We had purchased a $ 10 gift certificate for $ 4 through an internet promotion so we decided it was about time to try this place out.
The restaurant needed to updated. There was no hiding that this place has been around for a while. Overall it has some charm. It is like an old 50’s diner. I was dissapointed that the drink station was out in the open so when the staff walked behind the row of cups they started talking like we couldn’t hear them, but they were still in plain sight and we could hear every complaint they had about each other, about the customers, about everything!
The peanut butter cup shake was good. It was thick, but not so thick that I couldn’t drink it through a straw. I got the Spicy Chipotle Burger which was good, but nothing special. You would think something with the words spicy and chipotle both in the title would at least pack a little bit of heat. My 1 year old nephew could have eaten that without breaking a sweat!
I’ll probably try a Steak and Shake again… but maybe not this one. When my mom’s glass of water started leaving black rings on the table and she pointed it out to our waiter he said he would wipe it off… then asked if she wanted a new glass, or if wiping it off would be enough? Water glasses shouldn’t leave black rings on the table!
