Great Tacos! I watched the lady make the tomatillo salsa while waiting for my tacos. They are quick and fresh. Simple and tasty. Sitting outside watching my car getting detailed while enjoying these tacos is winning!

good and cheap… my favorite words when looking for lunch! some friends at the office get these tacos each week and i decided to join in this week. glad i did! i got beef and chicken tacos on corn tortillas. flavorful! the green sauce is to die for! comparable to pollo regio’s. they tend to get a little backed up at lunchtime, but the price and taste make up for the wait time. will def go back for lunch! gas station tacos are NOT all created equal. these are pretty tasty.

Dos Tacos is inside of the Shell Gas station with the giant car wash/detailing section. I haven’t tried their lunch tacos and based on the other reviews, and my own experience, I probably won’t. I went there once on my way to the office one morning hoping for a delicious taco done gas station style. I used to live on Park Ln and I got used to GOOD Mexican food. So my tummy was screaming at me «Chorizo! Cheese! Dripping with oil so you won’t want to eat for the rest of the day!!» And being the fool I am, I listened. Now, a side note, I go into this Shell all the time and if you’re a girl this one weird check-out guy will talk to you the entire time about the WEIRDEST things, and he does not care if you are listening or not. He will continue to talk and believe you are fascinated. The guy is a little scary too, asked me if I had dogs and if they were aggressive one time. So now I’m like«Guess who doesn’t get to see my driver’s license ever again? YOU! YOUSCARYGASSTATIONMAN!» But anyway, back to my review. The woman who ran the taco station seemed to not speak English which is usually a good sign. I asked for chorizo and egg, and when I asked for cheese she said it was extra. Oh well, not important, right? $ 4 later I’m out of there and on my way as I try to enjoy my taco. There was zero flavor. I didn’t even think that was possible with chorizo, but nothing. nada. zip. A banal taco was now in my hand in the car, dripping with what should be delicious oily goodness enriching the flavor of the taco, but instead it was just incredi-bad. See what it made me do? Now I’m inventing words. Save yourself the trouble(and the weird harassment) and just go to another gas station taco stand.

When looking for good tacos, there are a few things that should be red flags that a place is probably NOT worthwhile: 1. They also sell pizza and Philly cheesesteaks. 2. Their meat is precooked and steaming in plastic containers 3. It is way too clean and you are not worried your car is about to be stolen. 4. You are in Valley Ranch I don’t know why I was surprised that this place only has TWO options for tacos: beef and chicken, but I guess it keeps ordering simple. I got the combo plate with rice and beans, took them out to the car and went at it. Here’s the thing, I was expecting them to be really bad, but they weren’t actually. They were just OK. The meat had sufficient flavor but wasn’t overwhelmingly good. The salsas, I actually really liked. I would love to take some of those home with me and smuggle them into some other taquerias. Their tortillas came straight out of a bag that probably came from the nearby Wal-Mart and overwhelmed the taco, making the meat-to-tortilla ratio severely skewed. In all, it’s about on par with what you would expect when compared to the neighboring restaurants, maybe even a little better. They are just trying to cash in on people who are hungry and have to wait for their carwash. Kudos for being the 1st taqueria in the area, but you still have a long way to go.

Beinvenidos Dos Tacos to the world of cheap gas station tacos. We’re so glad you could make it. Please refrain from commercializing the concept too much and don’t just try to fit in because no one likes a diluted copy of Fuel City 2. Oh wait, you already did that? My bad. Since I knew I was taking a client out to lunch today I figured it would probably be a good idea to get my car cleaned. I decided to go all out, cleansing the inner vessel as well as the outer, and I thought the new car wash at my local Shell station would do the trick. While I was waiting for the 6 person pit crew to finish cleaning over a year of dirt and dust from my now shiny red beauty, I thought I should see if these tacos were as good as the express detail I was getting. Their menu is a little underwhelming but for some reason I couldn’t quite decide what I wanted to get. I finally chose to just follow the owner’s implied recommendation and get dos tacos, one chicken and one beef with all the fixins. They pulled my meat out of a watery tin under a heat lamp and threw some corn tortillas on the grill for a few seconds before slapping it all together and handing me my purchase. All the ingredients for a mouth watering taco seemed to be there, but the flavors just didn’t quite mesh like they should. I like a taco dripping with flavor, but there were no drips coming from these babies, just pieces of lukewarm chicken and cilantro falling to my plate. Maybe I’m being a little harsh. For the area this place is actually pretty decent, and the prices are good. They have a nice patio for eating outside while your car is getting washed. This might even be one of the few 3 star places on my list that I go back to on occasion, but nothing I would plan my day around. Dos Tacos, I’m worried you’ve created a commercialized monster that will fit perfectly along Valley Ranch’s slew of awful chain restaurants. I hate to sound all doom and gloom, but I think it’s the beginning of the end for the gas station tacos fad.
