I stopped by here today, 10/27/2014, and they were closed. Sign said ‘Coming Soon Asian BBQ’. Sad I didn’t get to try this place.

Upon walking in, your first thought will be that this had to have been a Chinese restaurant in the past, and the only thing that changed was the food genre, and the posters on the wall. I half expected a to see one of those kitty statues that waves hello, or some bamboo in water plants. As far as the food, I had the ‘Two meat plate’ with beef and sausage. The meat is okay, and about on par with Dickeys but at about 80% of the price, same with the sausage(regular) but with less kick/spice to it. Will I be back? Probably not.

After a friend recommended this place I figured I would give it a shot. The location is convenient and less than a mile from work. Needless to say this place was a huge disappointment. Immediately upon entering the restaurant I was overwhelmed with all the banners, signs and billboards of the food selections. It was hard to differentiate between the daily menu verses the specials. After seeing the daily special which was the Chicken Fried Steak being boxed for people in front of me I decided to get the veggie plate. The special did not look very appetizing. This is when I should of walked out. However I opted for the mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, green beans and sweet potatoes. I got my plate to go and got back to work to eat my lunch. Let’s start off with the mashed potatoes that were uncooked and contained pieced of hard potatoes. AWFUL! 2nd was the over seasoned green beans that were semi ok but still over all had way to much salt. AWFUL! 3rd was the mac n cheese that was runnie and lacked real texture. AWFUL! Lastly were the sweet potatoes that tasted like pure sugar. These potatoes would surly send a Diabetic into Coma. AWFUL! I must say there was noting homemade about these items. The mashed potatoes may of been the only item that was homemade. The green beans and yams were definitely canned items. Although the mac n cheese may of been homemade it was simply noodle shells and running cheese sauce. After all said and done I threw the food in the trash. Now I have an idea to call my friend and ask him to reimburse me for my $ 7.00 dollars I spent on this lunch. LOL… Also for the guy who works behind the counter that I’m sure is nice is also a bit unprofessional for calling every woman that enters the Restaurant«MA’ or ‘MOMMY». I’m sure he means it in an endearing way but it just doesn’t sound appropriate.

Just ok, and barely that… I just can’t get myself to give this place 3 stars. I’d give it 2.50 if I could. Brisket was okay. The ribs were very bland. There was no color to them and no rub. But they were cooked about right. The cabbage was cabbage and the mac and cheese was average. Strange atmosphere there… This place is a BBQ restaurant but it wants to be a Chinese restaurant. They could use some decorating help. I think all the cheap posters of food give it that fast food dive Chinese feeling. Well…And of course the big sign promoting rice gave it that Chinese feeling too???

I frequent this spot all the time since its super close to work and its been great. This past time we went my friend found a cockroach tucked in his collard greens. Breaks my heart because I used to love this spot.

Let me start by saying I’m a BBQ fanatic! I have been on the search for the best BBQ in DFW. This place was busy and the reviews were great, both a good sign. I was very disappointed:-( I had the BBQ plate: the meat was very dry, my fries tasted like fish, & my tea tasted old(maybe because tea urns need a good cleaning). I’ll keep searching!

I used to love going to Hobbi’s weekly for a brisket stuffed potato with a side of greens. The last couple times the greens were a lil gritty like they weren’t cleaned properly. After today I’m never going back. I happened to pour my container of greens out onto the plate instead of eating from the container. As I was about to cut up the greens I saw it… the soaked dead roach. Seriously. Never again.

i came here for lunch. $ 5 sandwich combo with French fries and a drink, tax included. The spicy sauce was very good. i can’t say if the brisket or ribs or fish were good because i haven’t sampled them yet. i’m hoping they’ll be good especially if they’re smoked the same way my pork sandwich was. i mean let’s be frank, it’s a meal that didn’t break the bank in the slightest with an above average flavor satisfaction level. 5 stars for doing what that sandwich was suppose to do.

The Sausage was the best part. Pork and Brisket were OK. Mac and Cheese could use a little help, but the Beans were good. Overall not bad, but not up to usual Texas standards.

Truly amazing BBQ! I use to go at least once a week, when I worked in Irving. The ribs rock! The sausage has the perfect spice. Personally, I’m hooked on the chop beef plate. Thank You Ed! Sides are great, including cabbage, green beans, Mac & Cheese or sweet potatoes. Enjoy Y’all, Mrs. T

i started coming here about 10 years ago & i’m glad to know they are still alive & kicking! i ordered the catfish which came with 2 sides… i had the yams & mac n cheese! the catfish took up it’s entire section of the to-go plate dayum lol the mac n cheese to me had too much pepper but was still very creamy & delish! omg the dayum yams was off the chain!!! i was in heaven… reminded me of my granny & mom’s cooking! i took my best friend w/me… she’s a very picky eater lol! she sent me a pic of her to-go plate(empty) w/a caption that said«i didn’t really like this» lmao… she’s greedy & is ready to go back! i think i’ll be back here to try 1 of their lunch specials other than the fish.

The best BBQ in the area. The only place I like as much is Hard 8 in Coppell. Nice little hole in the wall. The only restaurant I know where you can get KOOL-AID as a drink option. On to the BBQ. The only thing I ever get here is the brisket and sausage. They have a lot of other meats to, I haven’t tried them because I love the stuff I get so much. I am super picky about finding big chunks of fat in my brisket, and this never is a problem here. Also, the best spicy BBQ sauce I have had anywhere. Oh yeah, and the fries are great too, especially dipped in this sauce. Ambiance: The only restaurant I have eaten at that plays pretty much nothing but late 70s to early 90s R&B music. No annoying rap, just smooooth soul music, brother, like Toni Braxton, early Michael Jackson, etc. It is basically a dive in a strip mall. And I am not saying that as an insult! If you like places like Dicky’s BBQ… do not go here, this is not your type of place…

Came here one night while my bf had a dinner meeting. They only had fried okra and french fries as sides, I picked the french fries(they were pretty soggy). As the main, I got ribs and brisket. It was to-go and I was in a little of a hurry to get back home so I didn’t realize it was so dry with no bbq sauce :-(Pretty sure he overcharged me for a water too, the price was visible on the door yet it was $ 0.25 more on the receipt. No biggie but way to lie straight to my face. Meh… I should have taken no people dining as a sign. I probably got leftover meats of that night.

With the usual warning that I’m a certified BBQ snob… There’s not a lot here to like in terms of meat. I had ribs, brisket and hot links. The links had a good flavor and modest heat, but texture was definitely food service grade and certainly not sourced from an actual sausage maker. The ribs were a little overdone and had little smoke, but with some sauce, they were edible. The brisket was the worst of the lot; dry, almost devoid of smoke, tough and needed sauce to even be close to edible. On the bright side(so to speak), the turnip greens were quite good, as were the sweet potatoes, and a slice of «homemade» lemon cake was good as well. Spicy BBQ sauce was good, but I was sad at the amount of it that I had to use to make the meats go down. Again, I know my bar is way higher than most, but this place won’t get a second visit from me.

Friend introduced me to this place for lunch one day. It is in a strip shopping center and you would never know it was there unless someone pointed it out to you. Have some great southern dish specials every day they are open. Smothered pork chops, fried chicken and they serve the regular BBQ daily.

I love this place. It has such a great feel to it and the food is just as wonderful. The best items on the menu are the brisket and the sausage. The brisket is very tender and moist cooked just right and the sausage has a great flavor with the right amount of casing. They have a good selection of sides that are rotated through with the standard beans, baked potato, and corn as daily fare. It’s simple inside with cheap tables and no décor just like a simple BBQ joint should be. 94.5 Soul is playing throughout the restaurant to give it a comfy, happy feel, and the staff is always very friendly. If you aren’t looking for all the BS that goes with the bland generic chain BBQ places scattered throughout the metroplex come to Hobbi’s.

Love love love Hobbi’s!!! I used to work close enough that I ate there 2 times a week at least and always on meatloaf day… Which always ran out quickly because it was simply amazing. Wish I was in that area so I could stop by again because I do miss the home cooking! If they still have it I highly suggest the meatloaf and any of the sides. corn and sweet potatoes were my favorite! Sincerely, Daniel B!

Stopped in for a quick lunch after hearing how good the bbq was. There is a serving counter with your choice of meats and sides. I went with a 2 meat plate that comes with 2 sides. The ribs were moist and juicy with a good sweet caramelized crust. The meat was soft and pulled off the bone easily without falling off. Sausage was moist and succulent but didn’t have the level of crust formation that I like. The spicy sauce was thick and rich with a moderate heat to it. Toast was lightly toasted and buttery without oiliness. I had the potato salad, fairly standard, and the collard greens, fairly standard also. The service is fast, staff is friendly, and the place is clean and simple. The food was good, not the best I have had but good and especially for a quick lunch.

Had no idea this place existed until bf introduced me to it… it is in my neighborhood, tucked away inside of a shopping center that if you blinked you would miss, but boy do they serve up some slammin’ bbq. Had the brisket there that was super tender with some flavorful barbeque sauce, some homestyle taters and veggies for a decent price. Their smoked sausage is also good. Great if you work in the Las Colinas area and want some homestyle food.
