Island Lake Cafe

I love going here. The food is terrific and at a very reasonable price. The broasted chicken is my favorite and they have the best breakfasts. Alex, the owner, always greets me and my son when we walk through the door, just as he does with everyone else. The service is great. The soup is home made and so is the bread. The desserts are home made, too. There are daily specials that are worth going for. I love the Betty Boop décor. It makes this Café unique and quaint. I hope this place stays in operation forever.

Went here today and got a Philly steak cheese sandwich with fries I didn’t really like the sandwich because the steak was cut into thick chunks and I expected thin pieces of meat.

Good place for breakfast, take it for what it is. Don’t order a steak and expect wildfire stick with the basics here. Never had a problem with the waiting staff, they have always been great. We also have had good success with their daily soups.

The food was just OK. The service on the other hand was not good at all. My friend and I were never asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks and we were never asked if we wanted a box for our leftover food. They basically brought the food out, handed us the check, and never came back to the table to check up on us. I’ll take my money somewhere else next time.

I have eaten here on several occasions, for different meals. The food was subpar and the waitstaff was about the same… had high expectations but low results

Pizza burger is not good. The beef in the burger almost tasted raw and I asked for medium.

My husband and I went to breakfast here on Wednesday, September 2^nd, 2015 just after 9am. I didn’t catch the waitresses name, so at the off chance a manager or owner of this restaurant actually reads this then maybe he can check who served us by the day and time I provided to show her this review. To start, we walked in and stood in the entrance for a few minutes without anyone seating us, or even acknowledging us even though the waitress definitely saw us. After waiting the few minutes, I grabbed two of the paper menus that were at the entrance and we seated ourselves. She came to our table within a few minutes, gave us real menus, and took our orders. After bringing us our orders (which were wrong, but I didn’t even want to bother waiting longer) the waitress never came back to refill my husband’s drink, check how our food was, or anything. The bus man actually did more than our waitress since he came to ask my husband if he needed a refill and got him his coke refill. She finally came back to us to place the check on our table, but still didn’t ask how the food was or anything. Just dropped the check down. She’s lucky I didn’t think over how bad she actually was until walking to the car discussing it with my husband because had I, she would have got no tip.

I called in and asked if the kitchen is still open i get there before were even greeted or even ask for here or to go a hispanic cook sitting on the stools with his feet up on his phones just says were closed since 8pm on a Tuesday i say ok y dose it say open until 9pm maybe they should be more clear say that kitchen closes at 8pm and restaurant at 9pm even then it makes no sense but w/​e last time i will ever go there with lazy staff like that I’m surprised there still open.

Service was fast and friendly and the food was good. My husband had the broasted chicken, he said it had great flavor. My son had crepes that he said were really good. My daughter had a turkey sandwich made with carved turkey which was good as well. I ordered a turkey bacon wrap which was huge and very good. We will definitely go back!

I was here a few times and the food was yummy but it’s a hit or miss with the service! We went in a Monday for dinner and they told the 3 of us to sit ourselves, we were served by a bus-​person some water, which we finished, that is how long we were ignored… so we left! I have been in this industry for over 20 years! So not cool!

This is exactly what you expect from a neighborhood diner. The staff is amazing and the owner is a very kind gentleman. You will find Betty Boop all over the diner. When I asked him about that, he said it was a long time customer of his, who passed away and they belonged to her. Then others saw her and gave more to the diner to display. I think that says a lot about a person. The food is really good. The skillets are amazing. My sister always has the same one. I highly recommend this spot if you want old school down home cooking in a casual atmosphere. (I clicked no to table service, I thought they were talking about alcohol. There are wait staff that take your orders when you come in and find a table)

Overall a solid restaurant. Food prices are very fair and you get free bread and water. Soup is delicious. A couple of the waitress are a little rude but most of them are very nice.

I just wanted to add, that I have never had such a great waitress before such as the likes of SUE!!! She is always calm, even when it’s busy. She bends over backward for her customers, and even remembers the regulars by name & what the fav dish, and or drink may be. Sadly, not all the wait staff is as nice. I don’t know her name, but she has long stringy black hair, probably early fifties & rude as all hell! That’s easily fixed, just request Sue, or someone else.

Boop oop e doop. This charming local restaurant is a treat with an extensive menu. The Resturant is split up into two sides with a counter top for singles to eat. The place seems to be run by a Greek or Mediterranean couple.
The good
The Decore seems that of a genuinely passionate Betty boop fan.
The staff is Freindly even with the clear rush going on.
The biscuits and gravy were good. It seemed freshly made. But I think it sat out to be picked up for a bit due to the crowd.
The bad
The coffe cups are from mugs across America, made in China:-(. I know it is petty but jeseh.
The bng came out kinda cold
All in all it is an ok place and I would give it another try.

I sat myself down and waited. Three waitresses saw me but ignored me as they talked away about some party from the night before. This went on and on. They looked at me but never acknowledged me. I finally got up and left. They just kept talking. I real Greasy Spoon for sure. I work close by and nobody at work recommends it either.

Great soup and broiled chicken. I’ve ate here a few times and it’s always good. The staff is also very friendly and good with children.

Great neighborhood restaurant. Good food, friendly waitresses. Sandy by far is the best & friendliest waitress here. If you go in for breakfast try the corn beef hash & eggs. It’s AWESUM as well as the biscuits & gravy.

I have been going there for 27 years thru 2 owners and the food, service and amount of food is outstanding! Price is also great. Will continue to go there!!!

I came in for a second try. The service is still excellent. The food is okay to good. It’s hit or miss. Probably would be good after the bar. The place was pretty clean and that’s a big plus!

Not great. Got a chicken parm sandwich and the chicken tasted very plain, no seasoning, spices or anything else. The marinara sauce got soaked up into the bun making the bun soggy which I do not like. Service was fine and they gave a fair amount of food but to me the food was not great and I will probably not be going back here as family resturaurants seem all the rage in this area (Tops, White alps and a couple others I don’t remember the name of).
