The food was good, but I was disappointed by the reservation/seating process. Made a dinner reservation online, through Open Table, as suggested on the«Boathouse» website. When I got there I asked if there was outside seating. I was told there were only small tables by the bar and only appetizers are served there. Then, I was seated in a corner-not even near a window. When my server came I asked him about the seating outside. He also said there are only tables by the bar. I asked him if people ever eat dinner at them. He said«they can.» I asked him to see if any were open. He checked and said«yes.» He let me look outside to see the tables for myself. When I looked outside I saw about 7 or 8 regular-sized dinner tables outside. I asked my server what was wrong with those tables. He told me that those tables have to be requested when you make your reservation. Nowhere on the reservation form does it indicate needing to make a special request for outside seating. If a restaurant has a waterfront view, I’d assume most people go there for that view. If someone has to make a special request to have that experience. It needs to be clearly stated on the reservation form. Also, I absoulutely DONOT appreciate being lied to about the outside seating area. Two separate people told me there are only tables by the bar. I wouldn’t have known otherwise if I hadn’t gone to look for myself. I wouldn’t have cared as much about the seating situation had the hostess and my waiter been honest with me about sitting outside.

The food is pretty mediocre for the price. Great place to grab a drink at sunset. «Farmers Market casserole» at brunch was dry and bland at best. A $ 14 handful of romaine, shredded parm lettuce that tasted like paper with a rubber chicken breast constituted the Caesar salad. You’re paying for the good views though. Go for drinks, go somewhere else to eat.

I’m surprised everyone doesn’t give the boathouse five stars. I go for drinks on the roof around sunset or dinner every time that I am on the island. One of the few places to see the sunset on IOP. Great food, service, location. I see Dolphins almost every time.

Huge Fried Shrimp, I ordered the Fried Shrimp, It comes with Hushpuppies And ColeSlaw. The HushPuppies were HUGE and very delicious, The ColeSlaw had no flavor. The fried shrimp were HUGE, They give you about 20 of them, They were perfectly fried and very flavorful. I can’t wait to eat dinner here again.

This was our first visit to Boathouse at Breach Inlet and I’m sure it will be our last! I realize it was Mother’s Day and it was very busy. They served buffet brunch only and we knew that going in. However, if you are going to do that make sure you know how to handle it. There was no bacon when we went to the buffet. I asked and was told it would be ten minutes. Really, I’ve eaten my eggs by then. After about 12 minutes we checked back and still no bacon. hb The shrimp and grits had no shrimp in it twice when we checked. There was no cream cheese for the bagels. The strawberry mousse was gone by the time we went for desserts and the key lime torte was awful. We couldn’t eat the one we took and we saw several on plates being taken from tables. On top of that a 20% service(tip) was added to our bill. Keep in mind there was only two of us at the table. I perhaps wouldn’t have minded a 20% gratuity had this been a meal served to me but on a serve yourself buffet that is ludicrous. The food was mediocre at best, most of the hot food was lukewarm. If you don’t have the ability to do a buffet brunch well, just don’t do it. I will never know if they improve because I can’t imagine what would ever entice me to go back.

The rooftop bar at Boathouse is a great place to watch the sunset. Great, beachy vibe and good food. The flounder was banging with blue cheese slaw and collard greens. Tip: make a reservation to sit outside for the best view… and to avoid the rather«fishy» smell inside.

Nice location but food and service were only average, with the exception of the calamari(which I’d get again). We went for brunch, the boathouse Benedicts were a bit disappointing. Small and the English muffins were tough. The pork hash lacked some flavor but I knew the risk ordering land food at a sea food restaurant. If the server had come around more we would’ve had more to drink. Even with all that, I’d go again for apps and views!

We so love trying new restaurants in Charleston. We drove down for the day for some shopping and dinner. A friend recommended the restaurant. The views from the roof top bar were spectacular. We enjoyed wine while talking with the bartender, Josh. He was friendly and helpful. For dinner, we had a great view of the sunset and water from the dining room. We ordered the calamari. The breading was a bit different as it tasted like cornmeal, but it was good. I especially liked the portion size as it was not too large. For dinner, we ordered crab cakes and the seafood platter. With the seafood platter, we chose fried scallops, fish, shrimp, and oyters. It was served with blue cheese coleslaw which was different, yet tasty. The crab cakes were delicious as well. Word of warning, valet your cat as we followed the crowd of at least 15 cars parking on the side of the road. Upon returning to our car, we had a ticket. We will definitely be back to enjoy for drinks in the rooftop, try the tuna tacos, and valet.

This place is a whole lot of meh. Service was very good and quick, especially for how many people we had. Big plus on that. I got the Broiled Seafood Combo which was supremely overpriced. One medium sized ramekin of seafood with the tiniest lobsters I’ve ever seen. Seriously, they were the size of two of my fingers. I’m not even sure they were lobsters. Maybe baby lobsters. The gouda mac and cheese was $ 2 extra and had a good flavor but was lukewarm. The broccoli was so boring, I just dipped it in my seafood butter sauce to give it some flavor. I think the view would probably necessitate the high prices but we got there too late to see anything. Pass.

Colin was a friendly and attentive server, a delight. My husband had steak and lobster surf and turf with garlic mashed potatoes. I had the seafood and grits, shrimp, lobster, scallops all were tender and delicious. Chilly evening but a great atmosphere anyway. Really nice quality, tasty food served up with that wonderful flair of southern hospitality!

My boyfriend and I had reservations here for Valentine’s Day dinner. We were looking for a restaurant on the water. Our waiter was so great and friendly! He was very accommodating too and had the bar make up some oyster shooters for us at our request, that weren’t on the menu. We didn’t wait long for drinks or food. I got grilled chicken, asparagus and the smoked gouda mac and cheese. My boyfriend got the seafood fettucini. Our dishes were not amazing, but still very good. We ended up spending a little more money than we were planning, but we had a great time!

Stopped by the boathouse late in the day to catch the sunset. It was chilly and they have these dirty plastic covers on all the windows, but you can walk outside on the little deck to watch the sunset and it was awesome! One of the waiters came out to take a pic and says he does it every night! We ordered a few rounds of drinks from the main bar HH and it was great. Their well rum is bacardi, and its $ 4 at happy hour, yes please! The staff was super friendly and nice! We didnt eat at all so can’t speak to the food, but I would love to come back in the warmer months. Or even drive my boat up to the dock in the back! Note to self: gotta buy a boat!

We had a great time celebrating our anniversary. Ambiance and server was nice. Very quiet, great location and clean restaurant. We had delicious food my husband had the lobster surf and turf and I had the fish special for the night plus a cocktail. Dessert was on the house by the server once we told him it was our anniversary. A great place to go! Prices were reasonable! Valet service too and he was fast and efficient. Job well done boathouse! Highly recommended!

This review is primarily for the outdoor upstairs bar(though if you want a great meal, this is the place for that too. When I still ate meat, their crab fritters were one of my favorite things in the world. Don’t tell the other vegetarians, but I do miss those fritters!) This is one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset, enjoy a drink and just soak it all in. The bartenders are always friendly, the drinks are good and there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see some dolphins frolicking in the inlet. To me, those are the ingredients for a pretty good evening. The Boathouse also has free valet parking which is really handy on busy nights there.

Absolutely beautiful views from the rooftop bar. The bartender was very pleasant and so were the rest of the guests. Definitely a place I would go to again. I didn’t end up ordering food but my friend and I managed a $ 150 bar bill. The bartender made a very good Long Island(which can be hard to find).

I’m giving this place a 4 star review for the most awesome sunset. Absolutely beautiful with fantastic seating outside. The food was ok but the price was in my opinion outrageous. $ 30.00 for broiled seafood combination. 2 small lobster tails, 3 shrimp, 2 scallop, with a choice of sides. I had mixed vegetables & collard greens. The collard greens were excellent. The mixed veg consisted of onions & squash. It was ok. My son had pork tenderloin & mashed potatoes. He said it was excellent. The other party had shrimp & grits(Creole Style) she said it was good although spicy. They do have complimentary valet parking which is a big bonus because when busy this parking lot is rather small. Overall good & as I said spectacular views of the sunset. I would bring people here for that reason.

**rooftop bar review only** A group of girls and I were visiting from out of town, wanted a rooftop bar in the area and so were told to go to the Boathouse. We got there right around sunset and can absolutely see why we were given this recommendation. Watching the sunset over the inlet was breathtaking! I can’t speak to any else except to say that our drinks and aps were both pleasant and timely. But that sunset is worth the trip alone! Next time I visit, I hope to partake in either dinner or brunch as I have heard great things about both!

So I’m sitting there on Unilocal trying to come up with that list of places you always say you’re going to try but, just haven’t gotten around to yet when all of a sudden I see Boathouse. No it’s not the newest hottest restaurant on the block but, they’ve been around longer than I’ve been in the area which at least speaks for something. I jumped online and made a quick reservation for 7:45pm. I didn’t think I needed one but did just in case and it paid off. It was raining when we arrived and there was a few groups of people coming in trying to get tables. While they had a bit of a wait, we were immediately seated at our table. The food was great. When I first saw my plate, I thought it looked a little slim with only three scallops but the dish definitely filled me up by the time I was done. It was a bit deceiving at first glance with much of the dish hiding underneath. The mix of prosciutto and chopped asparagus was a new one that went over well. The prosciutto might have made the dish just a bit too salty but I didn’t mind. The risotto was a little soft and didn’t exactly stand out next to scallops or prosciutto with asparagus but it did the job as a starchy filler. Most importantly the scallops were perfect and seasoned just right. I also tried a couple items from the Broiled Seafood Combination. That citrus herb butter sauce they use was unexpected and fantastic all at the same. I really wanted something chocolate to finish off my wine with but, the Crème Brulee was calling our name so we split one. They really nailed it. The custard inside was so light and creamy with a hardened crust that you could easily break with a spoon while still leaving plenty of crunch. The service was excellent and our server had a great sense of humor. One thing that really stuck out to me though was the timing of everything being so perfect. Normally timing is something you don’t really pick up on unless it’s off. Our entrees came out right after the salad, she checked on us just enough throughout the meal, then a little bit of a pause but, not too much time before offering dessert. I don’t think it was luck, she was great at her job and knew exactly what she was doing. At the end of it all, the worst I can say is that the wedge salad was a bit lacking(more of those amazing tomatoes please… and maybe everything else for that price) and the gouda mac was just okay. It was probably the only thing left on our plates. After hearing such mixed things about Boathouse, I’m glad I gave it a try and would definitely be back.
