Just finishing up… absolutely excellent food, beer and service! You need to stop by!

Holy mother of god. This place is amazing. Their steak burger is to die for; more importantly, they know how to cook to the the level requested which seems to be a lost art these days. They also serve a bison tartare which is well seasoned and balanced nicely with the crunch of capers and onions. The weight staff is well versed in their menu and is, overall, wonderful. I would give them a 6⁄5 if I could. Wow…

Enjoyed a nice dinner here on the Wednesday leading up to Memorial Weekend. We didn’t have a rez and the place was hopping. Lucky for us, there was one table/booth left in the bar area. We didn’t care, and I like the bar area of restaurants anyway since there’s better people watching in there. I wasn’t Starvin’ Marvin and a lot of their meals look/sound big… so when I saw the«bar» menu, I asked if I could order off of it. And our server said ‘Yes’… I had read about the Buffalo Tartare…(Note… should be called Bison but let’s not get into that.)… and definitely knew we wanted to try that. So, that’s why I was excited to order off the bar menu for a smaller dish. The Buffalo Tartare lived up to the billing. It was tasty and had good texture… not gamey, not slimey, not mushy. The one thing that I found overpowering was the capers. There were too many of them. I like capers a lot, but these little guys are best when used with a light hand. I didn’t mind the thin chips like some complained about breaking. I liked the salty thin crispness of them to complement the tartare. Anyways… for dinner… I thoroughly enjoyed the duck salad. The duck was Perfect. Succulent meat with crispy light skin. I usually don’t eat the skin, but I took a few nibbles and it was fabulous… not greasy and not chewy. It was a pretty big salad too… definitely«entrée» sized. The husband enjoyed the ribeye and steamed spinach. He gave me a couple bites of his steak and we both agreed it was Really Good Steak.(We had recently eaten at what is acclaimed to be a great place in Las Vegas… well… we think this steak was way better and for a fraction of the cost.) He opted for the chimichurri on the side… don’t bother. It was way too«green»… the chimichurri I prefer is more light with a hint of green, garlic and pepper. This one just tasted too grass-like. I say this and we ordered steamed spinach which is clearly a GREEN veggie… and it was very tasty… nothing much to it cuz ya know… it was steamed spinach… healthy and all. I know… we are just picky this way. Because I had been«good» … well… sort of… I’ll be honest… I had a sweet tooth and the flourless chocolate cake with port soaked cherries sounded really good. It Did Not Disappoint. I wanted to lick the plate. The cake was surprising light and not overly rich nor sweet. Granted it had plenty of sugar in it and it kept me wired all night, but I’d totally eat it again. So Good! I didn’t think the prices were all that high… it’s a little spendy but for the quality of food and service… as well as the 4 drinks we consumed, it’s on-point. Our bill before tip was $ 129. Net, Net… we enjoyed our meal and if we are in the area again, we will be back.

Enjoy our lunch very much, service was excellent and the foods awesome. We had Korean BBQ lettuce wrap, the pork were tender and flavorful, crispy duck salad which was awesome, pheasant sausage sandwich was great and philly steak sandwich was good too. Sorry forgot to take the photos but believe me I’m fuzzy eater and this meal was awesome. Just don’t visit Slippery Otter at West Yellowstone bad food.

The restaurant clientele was mostly seniors so perhaps the kitchen is tailoring the food towards these older diners that desire saltier food, but the food was repeatedly overseasoned. And it’s not like I have a young, sweet palate with an AARP membership package soon to hit my mailbox. The house charcuterie was a successful start. The foie gras torchon had clever maple sweetness. The elk flavor was clearly present in the grilled spicy elk sausage. The grilled pheasant sausage had a richness that other poultry doesn’t. Both entrees were heavy-handed with seasonings. I was hoping these chefs knew of a way to make dull rainbow trout exciting so I could adapt that technique and use it at home. Their solution was to massively season the skin-side. Not what I was hoping. To make things worse, the trout was placed on an aggressively salted butternut squash hash. The end result was a trout where I couldn’t taste the fish and a hash where I couldn’t taste the butternut. The«buffalo medallion» was shaped like a filet mignon. No problem. The menu stated«tenderloin» and I’d rather have a thick piece of meat than something thin like a coin. The menu also stated the buffalo was«coffee rubbed». That’s a problem. If the meat was merely rubbed with coffee, that would have been fine. But it was coated, studded, and crusted with coffee grinds like it was a steak au poivre. Who wants to eat coffee grinds? On the menu it said«seared», but then the waiter asked for doneness. If a restaurant has seared ahi on the menu, there is no question for doneness because it’s merely seared. Why are the rules different for a different protein? It was a tasty piece of meat, but just poorly handled. The best part of the dish was the side. Separately, the huckleberry was dry and the sweet potato mash was too thin, but together they balanced each other. This restaurant also opened a butcher shop appropriately called Local Butcher that sells the same house charcuteries as in the restaurant. If I lived here, I wouldn’t return to the restaurant for the food(but maybe one time to the bar for the $ 27 bourbon flight), but would be a regular customer at Local Butcher to buy more charcuterie.

We came from our hotel, the wonderful Flat Creek Inn, after a long day of driving and decided to check out the downtown scene on a Friday night. We always do our research before we just walk into a square-dance or a place with a DJ and a bunch of stairs(which were both happening down the street)… we came across many things that sounded like a good idea but learned they were already closed at 10:30, so we thought the Local sounded like it was worth a shot. After we walked through the mess of drunks on the sidewalk in front of the Cowboy Bar next door we were just happy to go through the door of a nice-looking place. Based on the activity downtown we thought it might be a little busy, but the scene in there was terrifying. The bar had not a single open seat– and it was crowded with 21-somethings yelling at the top of their lungs, making out, and dropping glassware on the floor. I was reminded of some idiots I knew in college… We saw some other seating around the outer wall of the bar, so we decided we were hungry and tired enough to give it a chance and took a seat at a booth. Another group was also in a booth so we figured there was floor service– especially since there was no way the 2 bartenders were able to take tables. We looked at menus, figured out what we were going to get(by writing it down since we couldn’t hear each other at all due to the noise), and waited patiently for someone to see us. One, two, three servers passed by us– made eye contact, and walked away without saying a word. I get it. They were probably from the dining room and are done/almost done with their nights. I get it. It’s a tourist town and they have been dealing all day. I get it. We are so stupid that we sat at this bar booth thinking we would be greeted within 20 mins. Ha! How wrong we were to think that this place cared about us at all. We gave up and decided to go back to Albertson’s, where we had already been, to get snacks and wine and thanked the travel Gods they were open til midnight. It saved our night from being ruined entirely. Maybe the Local has some decent cocktails and steak and other fun things, but we will never know. Hope they made serious bank that night, since they won’t be getting any money from people they ignore.

I think we’re gonna need a bigger table. :-) Good ribeye. We asked for medium-rate, more on the rare side and got more on the medium side. Even so, it was still good. The bison burger was top 5 ever according to our 18 year-old son who has had many mighty burgers! The truffle mashers were the HIT!!! Brussel sprouts were amazingly good! Philly cheesesteak was sweet and savory. Good service, great wine. We would definitely come back.

I am torn on this review… Pros: Great food and good drinks for fair prices. Cons: When we came in, we asked if they were still serving dinner. They said they were. We sat down and were handed a much smaller menu… The proceeded to tell us they aren’t severing the full menu anymore. Okay, fine. But maybe next time tell us that when we ask??? The menu was restricted to apps of a burger. We ordered both… And waited for our food to come. And waited… And waited… And waited… You get the point. It took my BF asking the bartender, after close to 30 – 40 minutes, about our app(cheese tray). Bartender looked at us blankly and ran away. Came back to say«they lost your ticket.» No apologies. And don’t ask, no they didn’t comp anything. Mistakes happen, I get it. But we were exhausted, hungry, and already irritated they didn’t tell us they weren’t serving a full menu. I’ve worked in the industry long enough to know, when you screw up– apologize! And comp the dang app! HOWEVER– maybe this was just a bad night for them. Like I said… The food was really good.

We got the meat and cheese plates. So tasty. We had elk sausage, smoked trout and a traditional salami. The goat cheese, smoked cheddar were great as well. The vibe is definitely fancy but we still ate there with our baby. He loved the French fries!

The $ 65 steak is terrible. Was told it was local grass-fed. What grass is that? If that’s their ‘hi-qual’ they shouldn’t be producing anything than rubber. When i asked the waiter confirmed with the kitchen that it really shouldn’t be like this and it was sub-par, so the manager offered to discount the meat. I wonder how many customers complain. Or is this their standard operation to a clientele base that are mostly just passing by?

All I have to say is that Local is worth every penny. Splurge for dinner!!! Definitely try the Market Cut steak, courtesy of a nearby farm whose name escapes me. Our $ 75 beast was a 22 oz bone-in ribeye, seasoned beautifully, cooked perfectly to temp(which means order one temp warmer than you’re used to from chain houses), and topped with a compound butter. Mmmmmmm. Side dishes are a la carte, each about 2 – 3 servings, and must not be forgotten.(I can’t stop talking about the miso glazed baby carrots — heavenly, little, al dente spears of sweet goodness.)

Hi Local restaurant and bar owner(s), I had a big steak dinner at your bar with 6 of my friends on 3⁄13. All was good until we received a check with gratuity included(no surprise for a party of 7). The amount of included gratuity was 21% of a total, which is a bit obnoxious and made us feel that we got hussled. I think it’s up to the customer to decide if service was worth over 20% or following your(or your management’s) logic maybe you guys should include 25%? 30%? And btw«suggested gratuity» at the bottom of your check is 20−22%. Again, maybe you should consider making it 25−30%? Just to be fair. Service was ok. Just ok. Nothing extra. I waited tables to pay my bills for 10 years of my life. I’m sorry, but I have to call you out on this BS. I hope you’ll address it. Thanks!

Delish and great service. We started with Idaho fresh cut fries and a trio of dipping sauces one of which had a nice lemon zest; oysters Rockefeller and Alaskan king crab salad with sweet pea greens. But the best was my husband’s filet mignon(medium rare) — it was perfect and juicy– and I’m not even a huge carnivore. For desert we had an apple and cranberry pie with vanilla ice cream.

Really great meal here. We were in the«private» party room and the apps and cocktails were great, and we picked from a curated menu. The fish was perfectly cooked and accompanied, the salad was light and not overly dressed(yay) and the dessert of some kind of bread pudding was HUGE. The acoustics could have been a little better – the curtain didn’t mask the raucous crowd in the adjoining bar area too well, but it still was a great little spot.

One of THEWORST steaks I’ve ever had! Sad excuse for a steak. Had a ribeye, it was tough and slightly over cooked from the Medium order. Our appetizers and drinks were decent. Our dessert looked like a pile of sh*t and was terrible as well. Not well done at all. This has been one of my favorite places in JH, but this experience was well below par. $ 40 dollar ribeye was terrible! Disappointing experience. Don’t come here for dinner! HAPPYHOURONLY!

We went here on a busy Thursday night without a reservation. When we walked in we thought we were in trouble. Uh-oh. The place was packed. The hostess was very accommodating and found us one of the last tables for a party of five. Hooray! The menu is very good with everything from a filet mignon to a hamburger to charcuterie board. They have a bit of everything, and price to portion ratio here is very good. The good was tasty and hot! The service was friendly and very responsive. They really go out of your way make sure you have a good time. They have some good custom drinks too, and a full bar. You probably need a reservation any time you go here… be warned! I really enjoyed the food, drinks, and staff here. 5 stars. I will be back!

If your in town and have to go to one place, it’s here. The buffalo tar tar came out with chips. I’d like for it to come out with bread. It’s dilicious. Maybe offer a other items other than just chips. It’s difficult to scoop and the chips break. It’s annoying. The waitress was able to give us an emergency stash of bread. I’m a little sad they didn’t have bread ready for us to pick on. The special cut for the day was the porterhouse. I was told the porthouse is infamous and they only had one. For the party of seven we had them cut it up for us as an appetizer. It was awesome and great for the staff to accommodate us. Two people ordered the ribeye for two. They are head over heals for it. Lamb pasta was good. The guy who ordered it is very bland with review. My gf and the filet minion was excellent. It was perfectly cooked and it was a nice piece of meat. Worth it. Buffalo medallions were amazing but the huckleberry(squash and blueberry) sauce was amazing. One had the French onion soup with buffalo tar tar. And she said it was alright. The sides were awesome. The Brussel sprouts are off the hook. I loved the beats and goat cheese. The spinach was ok and the mushrooms were great. We got the apple, crème brule, and no flour chocolate cake. I loved the apple thingy, the sauce for the no flour was interesting, and I don’t enjoy crème burle but everyone in my party loved it.

Great Food Courteous and Professional Staff A little bit too far on the high end for pricing, but not to many other places in town that can deliver the way they do.

This restaurant is a must if you are visiting Jackson. My husband and I ate here twice during our visit. The food is delicious, service is great, and the pricing is very reasonable for a steakhouse. It’s also conveniently located on the square. We ate lunch here and really enjoyed it, but dinner was the best. I had the filet mignon which was very moist and well seasoned. I ordered a sauce to go with my steak, but didn’t need it. My husband had the buffalo medallions which was served with sweet potatoes and a huckleberry sauce. Wow, this was a great combination of flavors that had me stealing bites. We shared the brussels sprouts with bacon vinaigrette. They were one of the best veggies I’ve ever had. Normally my husband wouldn’t touch veggies, but he went back for seconds on these. We finished with a peach cobbler that was buttery and flaky. We definitely enjoyed our meal here and would have this on our must eat list if we visited again.

Ate here last night at the end of a very long driving day and had one of the best meals of our lives! We had read the other Unilocal reviews and started with the buffalo tartare — not something we would ordinarily try, but it was really good — meat was mixed with herbs, onions and capers, served with house-made chips(the most perfectly crunchy, tasty, not-too-salty or oily chips we’ve ever had in a restaurant) and a truffled aioli. It was a small portion — either of us could have inhaled it alone, but it did the trick of whetting our appetites for the bigger dishes to come. My husband had the 14 ounce cast-iron seared ribeye served with compound butter. The meat was local, hormone and anti-biotic free and grass fed, which resulted in a very tender very tasty steak. He finished all 14 of those ounces. I had the sautéed Idaho trout, served blackened(so it appeared pan-fried), over red peas with ham(like a hash) and a salsa verde underlying it all. Great depth of flavors, lots of nice little bursts of lime, herbs and fresh cilantro, and a perfect portion. Sides are all ala carte here, but you can pick 3 for $ 12, so we got the sautéed wild mushrooms(a very generous portion that complimented both our mains), the potato gratin(not well reviewed here by other Unilocalers, but ours was creamy, buttery and delicious — and it SMELLED awesome), and the heirloom tomato salad which was perfection. Everything was lovely! Rounding out our 5-star rating: inventive delicious cocktails like my ‘The Beets’ — basically a top-shelf margarita with beet purée and jalapeño syrup; great service; a nicely appointed interior; and the fact that we were told we could be seated within 10-min despite not having a reservation, and were actually seated in 2. Couple additional notes — if you are staying in town, this place is right across from the town square and is walkable from anywhere. There is also street parking. Also, although the tables are set for ‘fine dining’ with white table cloths and cloth napkins, the patrons are a hodge podge of hikers, young hipsters, cowboys, and families — so don’t avoid it because of how you might be dressed!
