This has to be one of my favorite soul food restaurants. I get it every time I come to visit. The portion sizes are huge and the food is great! I love the fish

The food here is pretty good, and they give you huge portions! I’ve been to so many soul food restaurants in NYC, and have been met with disappointment time and time again — RCL has never disappointed me. I’ve literally been coming here since 9 years old, and I’m currently 23. When a place has been in business that long, especially a soul food joint, you know it’s on point. They never run out of anything, they have everything on the menu, and their always crowded(another sign of a good restaurant). I’ve also had food catered from them numerous times, and it’s even better quality than the food at the restaurant.

This Soul Food/Southern Cuisine restaurant has been a staple in this community for decades. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious. The portions are very, very large, with the take-out plate usually overflowing. You truly receive your money’s worth here! A great value! A major plus is that they’ve moved from overloading their vegetables with pig meat, and instead use smoked turkey. They serve just about everything you can think of for a Soul Food restaurant, as the menu is very extensive. They also sell a variety of salads and desserts. It can get really crowded in the evenings, especially on weekends, but they keep the line moving pretty fast. The staff is not particularly friendly, but they are very efficient and move at a very fast pace to fill your order correctly. Plus, they stay open until midnight! The only downside, is the parking… of which there is none, other than the street, which is always overcrowded. If you’re into this type of cuisine, you’ll be very pleased with RCL Enterprises.

I so looked forward to getting barbecue ribs for the family for a nice super bowl comfort meal. Were we ever disappointed. Tasteless, very little barbecue flavor, some pieces were over cooked and all pieces were tuff. Not a quality meat at all, which might have been compensated for with seasoning and proper cooking. But Nothing saved these ribs. Don’t know if any other food items are tasty, but the ribs were TERRIBLE. In theory, I would love to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, and consider this experience — a rare exception and not the general rule. In practice, I don’t think I’ll ever go back. EXTREMELYDISAPPOINTED !!!

My family and I have been coming here for years and it seems like the quality has gone up. The smothered chicken used to be a bit dry. Now, it’s tender and juicy. The macaroni also tastes pretty good. It’s nice and chewy and It has just enough cheese– not too much like KFC. They also serve other artery-clogging southern dishes(fried chicken, fried fish, basically anything fried, collard greens, oxtail, cornbead, etc). I don’t like turkey so on Thanksgiving, I had some smothered chicken, collard greens, and macaroni instead of the traditional meal. Like I said in my previous review, the restaurant is in an area that’s hard to reach by public transportation, though it’s not that far from the Van Wyck. As another reviewer pointed out, the lines are long and it’s not the best area. Nevertheless, it’s worth the trip(come in the day).

This place was recommended toe by a co-worker many months ago. I was hungry and decided to finally try it, I ordered the oxtails dinner and got collard greens and macaroni and cheese for my sides. They are absolutely not stingy with their servings and the food was sooo delicious! I will definitely be back.

What can I say about this place that hasn’t been said already. Simply put this is the best soul food place anywhere! Even though I don’t live in New York City anymore this place is always on my food bucket list when I come back to visit. I love the Ox tails !!! and I know that you will too. Parking can be a bit of a challenge and the line might be long at times but it’s worth the wait. I will be on line to get my Ox tails to go back to NC with me.

I would’ve loved to leave an amazing review but unfortunately I didn’t even get a plate form them. The line was extremely long and by the time I got semi-close to the register I saw the sign that said they didn’t take cash. So I stepped off the line(I was at the end of the line) to use the ATM they conveniently have sitting in the front and what do you know, A BUNCHOFPEOPLEWALKEDINANDJUMPEDONLINE! I took that as a sign the baby Jesus didn’t want me to have that golden fried goodness today. Overall: The fish is really, really good here to I’ll time my next visit and make sure it’s not during their«rush hour».

so apparently this is always my last meal b4 departure now. This time my food was proper JUICY, guess I got better orders. went with the luv again .aka worser half 8s and I got all the insider spill on who to take your order from as far as BIGDIPPER servers lollllllll hes obviously a known regular so the flippant lightweight server chick KINDLY avoided us ROTFLLLLLOLOLLL. he spent half the time whispering about who gives grrreat portions and her ruditude so we tried to time it and play hopscotch around getting her next, twas quite hilarious. She just bided her time and turned her back so we got the short older lady and I was MANDATED to give her a tip but was everly worth it, my box would barely shut. I demolished it in the car + neatly parked myself in a quiet corner and killed it off sucking all the remaining gristles in the airport before hitting TSA. He kept asking why there was nothing like it in Houston, ppl constantly ask me questions like im the alpha problem solver. IDFK

I like this place… their food is perfect for someone single and busy who wants some home cooked meals… but my biggest critique is their time management. They really need to figure out a system to get people in and out in a timely manner. I’m pretty sure they have lost some business as a result of their lines being too long and the service too slow. I have seen people leave the line and I have driven by seeing a long line and opting to just go to Popeyes. They should hire time management person to help them with this process. It will not be hard. They should also allow people to order from their phone or via online(it’s a new era — change is necessary) so that their food is ready once they arrive. It is not wise to have someone come and have to wait 20 minutes or MORE for their fried fish or fried chicken.

My husband and I recently used their catering services for a house warming party and the food was phenomenal. We decided to order from RCL as we always make it our business to stop in and get some food to go, when we are in the neighborhood. Sometimes, we make a special trip all the way from New Jersey to get their food because it is always so good and the portions are so generous. We placed the order 3 days prior to the party and picked it up on the day of the event. We ordered food for 50 people and traveled all the way from New jersey to pick it up. We ordered the baked chicken, fried fish, collard greens, and yams. The baked chicken had some vegetables in it which was a very tasty and pleasant surprise. The portions were very generous and the food was packed extremely well and survived the trip back to New Jersey. The food was still piping hot when we got it home. Our guests absolutely loved the food! It was tasty and well seasoned. Most of our guests wanted to take some food home and It was such a hit that I did not have enough containers to put the food in, It was that good! I highly recommend their food and catering services. They are reasonably priced and have a good variety to choose from. It is well worth the trip. My family, friends and I will definitely be using them from now on for any and all of our catering needs!

The portions are big and very filling. The service is fast and the servers are always pleasant on professional. I have never been to RCL and have been disappointed. I am always impressed and satisfied with the food. I will recommend this restaurant to any one. I must say its a place my family and I visit once a twice a year for guilty pleasure and when we do order we always purchase the following: BBQ Jerk ribs Fried Chicken Rice and Peas Mac and cheese Corn bread and banana pudding. I love this place and enjoy this guilty pleasure twice and thrice a year !!!

This is my favorite soul food restaurant! I accidentally stumbled across this jewel a few years back… lucky me! Their food selection is phenomenal. This place is my weakness. When I walk in here I’m like a kid at a candy shop. I drive from Brooklyn to Queens just for a fix. Everything is good here. The food is moderately priced for what they serve you which is generous. It depends on how hungry you are but you can definitely have leftovers which means you get two meals for the price of one. The only downside to this business which I totally don’t mind is the food is only takeout and there is always a long line but it moves. I totally get it this business is always busy so it doesn’t have the space to allow sit down customers. My suggestion to anyone looking to eat soul food, come here and you would be a frequent customer for sure.

I went to RCL7÷26÷14 horrible choice. I ordered fish dinner with Mac & Cheese my sides was banana pudding and coconut cake. The fish was old and over cooked the yams was soupy mac and cheese oily. If I didn’t live far from there I would of brought all of that food back it was horrible. I will not be going back. P. S stay away from the banana pudding it’s old gave me the runs.

Let me start by saying I wanted to give them 3.5 and that’s only because the food is the bomb. Why I decided to take away two stars is because on a Tuesday afternoon at 3:40pm there is a line. Normally I won’t complain too much about the lines because a line means good food but this line was because the workers was slow as hell. Everybody ordering fried fish and has to wait for each order to be cooked so when you get to the front we also had to wait for our fish which was about 10 – 14 more minutes after the almost 30 minute wait. 45 minutes for take out is ridiculous. I wait that long for delivery and I didn’t have to waste gas. Plus the workers aren’t that friendly and can’t control the line correctly. In the middle if waiting one worker scream out the line is going the wrong way you have to fix the line and everyone had to find there place on the line going the opposite direction thank god we was next anyway so no matter what direction first was first. I just feel like driving 25 minutes to get this food the experience should of been better. PS the food is really good though!

Uh I think not; I gave this place many chances and it still doesn’t pass on the taste portion of the bill. I usually get the jerk chicken with macaroni pie. I can make better food than what their serving. The reason people come here is because for $ 10 you get am enormous amount of food! Mostly filled with obese people… since all of there food is southern home cooking with 3x the amount of fat!

Locally known as «Rockaway Fish House», this place is the home of comfort food. My opinion is slightly tainted because I remember when this place was REALLYGOOD. Lots of good food for cheap. Ah… the good olé days. But in the present, the food is still good. As many people have mentioned, you will receive more than enough side dishes. For the entrée, they can be a little skimpy. The price of the meals start at $ 10 and hover around $ 13-$ 15. All of your southern staples are here: baked mac and cheese, collard greens, smothered pork chops, Etc. There is usually a line and there is no dining in. Decide what you want before you get to the front to order. Since the minimum for credit cards is $ 25(two meals), bring a $ 20 just in case. The desserts(peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, cake) are ok but don’t have that«like grandma used to make» feel. Suggestion: Get the Mac and cheese, always go with the high profile items(corned beef, jerk ribs, bbq ribs, smothered pork chops) since everyone does chicken. The fish is good but the price has done like George and Wheezy(moved on up). You can get more fish from other places in the neighborhood for the same price or less(no lie… check Pathmark on Springfield Blvd and Merrick Blvd) Worth a trip for some soul food and a good way to feed a bunch of hungry animals during sports nights like the Superbowl.

RCL has been around for years. I probably was in high school the first time I came here. the same way it was back then is the same way it is now. Soul Food kitchen with a dash of Caribbean dishes. Good flavor and super hefty portions. You can’t even close the lid on the box. When you leave RCL with one container, you’re actually leaving with two meals. There’s no reason to sit down and finish off a RCL meal in one sitting unless you tryna get the diabetes or high blood pressure or sumthin. It’s just too much damn food… Ain’t no healthy options at this place either, just good ol fashion comfort food. They pretty much have everything you can think of. For all you real Southern heads they even serve chitlins. I’m good though, I’ll pass on the chitlins for now. I usually get the BBQ ribs or Jerk ribs with macaroni & cheese and sweet yams as the sides. Good stuff. The Jerk is nothing close to what Caribbeans know as jerk but it still has a nice flavor. The service is usually friendly, but the lines on the weekends can get really long. In and out spot, so no dining in. I do believe they offer a space for catered events though. Gota spend $ 25 or over to use plastic so it’s best to keep cash on hand. RCL equals giant size portions of Soul Food loving. Really Good Stuff.

I used RCL for a catering event. The price was standard to some of the other establishments I called. It was a next day cater so I was truly pressed for time. What sucks about placing a catering order, they don’t accept credit cards over the phone. You have to place your order, come in to pay, then they secure your order. Whack! Run like a normal business.

I had the oxtail dinner, they were good. BUT, they weren’t so good that I will put them on my list of things I must have again. The food was just satisfying, it lacked excitement… it was boring. Maybe, because I wanted American soul food/Oxtails … just like my grandmother use to make, but because this place is a Jamaican soul food, I was and my stomach was a little disappointed.
