Great bar. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in Jersey City: low key, great drink selection, and the best service. Our waitress Kerri is the flipping best!!!

Yummers! Me and bf went there over the weekend. We had the Chicken Pot Pie, Bacon Jalapeño Poppers, and Sticky Wings. So darn good!!! Food tasted fresh. Can’t wait to go back. I gave them 4 stars because of the dessert menu. The apple crumb cake was okay but was definitely thrown together… store bought crumb cake and cooked apples. AsKed for ice cream and they have none in the bar. Nothing else on the dessert«menu» seemed interesting.

Very poor service and rude waitstaff for brunch. My friends and I waited over an hour before being served, only to be served cold food. While I understand that a waitress has no control over staffing limitations, she does have control over how she handles the situation and manages customers’ expectations. Advising customers of the anticipated long wait, apologizing for the wait, and offering, for instance, some bread to tied customers overs are actions that go a long way. We received no such customer service today. In addition, upon our leaving(after we paid the bill and still gave a tip, by the way), our waitress yelled a rude remark to us. Such behavior was uncalled for and unacceptable.

This place is the BEST. Great food the service was awesome… Never been here before and the staff made us feel like a regular. Came for brunch on super bowl Sunday and I can’t wait to come back here soooo much fun !!! Especially Alicia and Linda!!! Ask for them

Not a great fan of this place. Ok food, decent service… Nothing that you would not expect from a friendly neighborhood bar

The last several times I’ve been haven’t been as great so I think I’m going down a star. The service seems to have dropped off quite a bit, with regards to the overall speed of service. I was in the other night and there was only one or two other tables yet dinner stretched to well over an hour and a half. Also I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich and it looked like it was a child size portion! I thought it would be similar in size to the burgers but it was small and flat.

Love me some 9th and Coles. It’s a great local spot in the middle of Hamilton Park. They have great outdoor seating thats pet friendly and a nice/semi-divey vibe in side. Tried their buffalo cauliflower and cabbage tempura with a veggie friend and they were both pretty good. .Was not expecting them to be that great — but I was wrong. But the main event was the 9C burger — it’s legit. It comes with taylor ham, and wonderfully runny egg and a special sauce. Yummmmmy. Also, I like my burgers medium rare and they cooked it just right. Good. Burger. Overall, this place is great local watering hole with some good food. The staff their are super friendly and I’ve never left unhappy.

This is my neighborhood bar and for two years, I’ve been loyal. However, over the past year or so, I’ve found myself less and less impressed with the spontanious friendliness of the staff, and with quality of drink related to the cost. This is not a cheap little neighborhood bar. It’s just a regular bar with prices that are, I suppose, rising in response to gentrification. The food is still reliably good bar food. It’s mozzarella sticks and buffalo chicken wraps. I still love this place as a brunch place and summer bar, because of their great outdoor seating.

My husband and I have been there twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch in the past month. Dinner was ok. I enjoyed the bacon poppers. My husband’s nachos were meh. The service was lousy. I think the waiter didn’t want anything to do with being a waiter. Brunch was more recent. We wanted to give them a second try. The server was different, and worse than the first. He served us a dish of melancholy with a side of ambivalence. Despite the service, my eggs benedict was good. My son enjoyed the pancakes just fine, but my husband’s sausages were steamy when they came out, definitely freshly nuked. They had the flavor microwaved out of them. The bartender was nice and at least said hello and goodbye when we came in the door. The Bloody Mary mix is a little too thick, so ordering a Bloody Mary was not the best choice. But their Bloody Irishmen(Guinness, Bloody Mary Mix and Absolut Peppar) was actually quite tasty. All in all, we probably won’t be back, unless we hear their servers achieve their moment of zen and embrace their current calling. I really want to like the place. It has charm, it has potential.

I don’t know what’s up but since it’s been taken over by new owners, the quality of the kitchen hasn’t been the same. My husband and I went there for brunch and though not busy at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, the waiter /bartender seemed to be annoyed in general– who knows why? In addition we were given menus and as soon a we ordered lunch items, the waiter/bartender annoyingly said only brunch was being served. Hmmm ok, next time do not give us the menus the have lunch/dinner items on them. We move past that… Unfortunately every time we have eaten there, we have gotten the worst case of diarrhea. I don’t know if the food is kept in a clean environment, is it being prepped the right way? Is it refrigerated at the correct temp? Is it being cooked at the right temp? Who knows but I’m pregnant and not taking anymore chances eating there. Something has to be done about the kitchen there. Too many recent complaints of the same issue: getting sick after eating the food there.

I had this again. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as great as it was the first. The burger came out tasting like the grill wasn’t cleaned and it was brunch when we came. Disappointing. Had to take it down a few notches. Please clean the grill every night.

Great place for drinks and just to chill and relax. Alex the waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable on drink and food specials. We tried the jalapeño poppers and empanadas which were flavorful, delicious and did not disssapoint. Overall very satisfied with the experience here. Outside seating was nice as well.

Talk about a nice local bar! Came by on Friday night with the sis and beau for some drinks and little food. Grab a seat anywhere because you will feel right at home. Staff is friendly and extremely attentive. Great music playing, great crowd, and good beer selection. My sister ordered some food and it definitely was a huge burger, which she definitely enjoyed. The beau and I just stuck with drinks as we had already had dinner. It was a little late in the night so we were glad to see that the kitchen was still open! Kuddos! I had been here once before a few years back and really don’t know why it took me so long to come for another visit. Will definitely come back — probably one my new favorite gems of JC.

Love this place. I come here every Wednesday for trivia night, but make sure I come on an empty stomach because the food is amazing. The really friendly staff and great service add to the charm as well. Now for the food — my favourite is the shrimp poboy when they have it as a special. But in case they don’t have it you can’t really go wrong with the items on the menu. Now for the best part(with my sweet tooth) — this place has incredible desserts. The Jameson chocolate pecan pie, carrot cake and the flourless chocolate cake are my favorites.

I love this little Irish pub! The owner, Tony, is the nicest guy I have ever met, he’s always so nice and accommodating and makes sure you have an absolute blast every time you come into his place. The bartenders Tim and Jordan are also super nice guys, who know how to make awesome drinks and make sure to hook you up while you’re there. The place is small, about the size of a railroad style 1 bedroom apt in Jersey City, the bar seats about 10 – 15 people and they have 4 tables in the front of the bar, and about 3 – 4 tables in the back room, as well as a few tables outside. I had the opportunity to try their food the other day and I have to admit, it was super tasty! I had their french fries… possibly one of the best french fries I have ever eaten! They come in a Cajun style sauce with a bunch of spices and don’t even need ketchup they’re so good! We also tried their buffalo wings, which come in a variety of styles, we opted for the naked wings which come pretty standard with hot sauce, bbq sauce and blue cheese on the side. Awesome wings. My only complaint is that they stop serving food at 10pm and we were contemplating ordering their desert, which looked amazing. Oh well, next time! I’ve worked two liquor promotions here and both times, the owners were super excited that we were here, posted the promotion on their social media pages, made sure everyone at the bar knew about the promotion and treated us very well. If you’re in the area, I highly suggest checking this place out!

Food and drinks review below. I would have rated this place 5 stars on service alone. The owner(Tony) is such a genuine and friendly guy. He made sure everyone in the bar was doing well and the waitress was just as nice and pleasant. I’m looking forward to going back next week — I hear they also have trivia night and a drag show which should be fun. It’s a bar/restaurant so dress is casual and there’s also a couple of TVs for football Sundays. FOODANDDRINKS: Bloody Irishman is top notch. You can get it with a jalapeño popper(wrapped with bacon) — definitely recommended for you bacon lovers! If you’re getting wings — I’d recommend getting them naked style so you can try all the dipping sauces. The wings are nice and crispy. 9C burger(insert drooling face here) = patty + two types of cheeses + mushrooms + onions + fried Taylor ham + lettuce + tomato + hot pepper mayo + fried egg… You do the math. 9C Mac and cheese — you should add bacon. The mac and cheese was a bit light and I prefer my mac and cheese a little bit more cheesy/thick, but it still was very good.

I have been coming here for Trivia Nights on Wednesday and getting a better opportunity to sample the food and drinks. I heard that 9C won the Bloody Mary contest this year and if they didn’t, they should. It’s called the Bloody Irishman and it’s made with Guinness. I can only have one of these and food if I am driving :-p. I have had the BBQ chicken bar pizza, bacon wrapped jalapenos and chicken fingers with fries. You really cannot go wrong with your food choices here. Drinks are good and the best thing is that you don’t get knocked out with the bill. Very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Love the bartenders and waitstaff … they have a good bond with their customers. 9C is definitely a regulars place so happy that I have a lot of friends who are regulars. But I def like this place.

My friend who lives in the Hamilton Park area has always suggested I check out this place. So after two months, I finally made my way here for brunch on a late Sunday morning with my Mom. First of all, I love the fact that they have both outdoor seating and indoor seating. Plus I give the person who came up with the idea to weld the iron chairs and tables into the fence around the establishment kudos — so genius! Second, great wait service: Our first waitress(who I believe was the bartender) gave us get drink recommendations — try the Apple Jacks and/or Pancake shot(tastes exactly like the name). The second waiter was so friendly, patient and resourceful at least when I asked about his tattoo and if I could post a flyer in the window. Food: I had one of the specials of the day, smoke salmon Florentine — so yummy. I split that with another special, praline french toast. I also was interested to try their blueberry and cream cheese stuffed french toast — I guess I’ll just have to come back! Overall the place was very neighborhood friendly. People of all walks of live chillin having some drinks and food. Music ranged from rock, indie to pop. The bar(from what I saw at first glance) is old fashion dark wood but the setup inside is very comfortable and inviting; a bit rustic.

My Unilocal app proved most useful as it led us to 9th& Coles Tavern. Despite it looking like the usual neighborhood bar on the outside(read neon bar signs with beer names, mixed color string lights for the holidays and a chalkboard listing specials), the bar food was delicious. The food was a bit slow but the staff was super nice and understanding even in the heat of miscommunication. I wanted the signature 9c burger with all the trimmings but instead a plain jane cheeseburger landed in front of me. Once we got the attention of a server or two everything was cleared up and a sincere apology was issued. And I am so glad it was because that 9c burger was beyond amazing. Even with a fried egg, taylor ham, buttery sautéed mushrooms and onions, sharp cheese and a thick layer of spicy mayo, the beef wasn’t forgotten. We could tell that the meat of the mile high burger was seasoned, eliminating a common short sight we have previously encountered elsewhere. Though big and messy the burger was definitely a crowd pleaser and an apparent favorite. We started with the 9c sampler basket because it had appetizers I wanted to try– mainly the jalapeño poppers and the fried artichoke hearts. We also went big and added on the 6 wings for an extra $ 3. Everything was ok, good enough to devour, but not great enough to really order again. Except the jalapeño poppers were really delicious– hot cream cheese oozed from the bright green jalapeño, which was wrapped in a layer of almost crispy bacon. It was just the right mixture of spicy, sweet and salty, with a crunch. The yummy artichoke hearts were crunchy on the outside, tender and buttery on the inside. The wings were decent, mainly hearty. My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken tender wrap which looked kind of light. There was a lot of lettuce and some heat. He got the 9c slaw with it, which turned out to be crunchy, tangy and fresh. I would deffo go back for the poppers and the 9c burger and maybe even stick around to check out a game, watch the locals and have a few drinks.

First time and def. not my last! Decided to give this place a try after reading their previous reviews. I got the 9C Burger(minus the Ham) and asked to try both the 9C Slaw/pickle and fries as well as toast the bun. The cook had no problem making the substitutions and made it perfect to order. The waiter/bartenders are very friendly and accommodating. The 9C Burger is huge and def. filling, just be warned it’s pretty messy to eat. The egg didn’t overpower the rest of the burger. The patty was flavorful, bun was thick and the mushrooms and spicy mayo added to the deliciousness that is the 9C burger. Their 9C slaw was very crisp/crunchy and fresh, and wasn’t loaded with too much mayo making it somewhat light(not a nasty heavy mayo filled slaw)! The fries are thick cut like you’d find at a diner. Very great comfort food. 5 stars for the food, friendly staff, accommodations and very chill atmosphere. Next time I’m craving a good juicy burger, I’ll make my way down here again!
