Found this place better than the much hyped Dosa Hut or Dosa House on the Indian street. The place is much more hygienic and clean. Prices are reasonable too. We ordered 3 different dosa’s and they were all great. Definitely, this is my South Indian food place to be.

I placed an order with Chutneys two weeks back and they messed up the order, when I called them, they tried blaming it n but then realized they had the right order and offered a store credit which I haven’t really heard of at a restaurant. I called them back yesterday to maybe give them one more shot since their food is not really bad, its pretty good. After 75 mins, I started wondering where my food is, I call them, as a standard response — «Sir, he just left», I wait for another 15 mins, I call them back, «Sorry sir, he had deliveries in opposite directions he will be there in 10 mins, I tell them I don’t want the delivery, its almost been two hours, I placed the order at around 7:40PM and it was around 9:25PM». I get a call at 9:35PM… «The delivery boy has been waiting for you downstairs» … I just had a simple response«Please ask him to take the food back I already told you I don’t want it». My house is 2.7 miles or 20 mins in peak traffic hours away from the restaurant and they expect me to accept an order I placed almost 2 hours ago. I generally do not write feedback because I know its rarely read by people… seldom yet by the restauranteers … But here’s a feedback … «You guys have GOODFOOD… Please replace that clock on the wall with a one that does neither runs late nor runs in Indian stretchable time, South Indian food needs to be warm and quick … not cold and next day» Hopefully you guys pull up your socks!

Yummy dosas, idli and vadas. Must try is the mini idli. Go for the classics and you won’t be disappointed! Make sure you get the different chutneys.

Fried Idly and MLA Pesarattu are my favorite here. Mini ghee idly, punukulu and paper dosa are also good. We have tried Pulka and Paneer butter masala but they aren’t good. Overall, it is a good place if you want to have Indian tiffins.

By far the best dosas I have had in Jersey City ! Have visited chutneys multiple times and their dosas always seem to hit the spot, the variety of chutneys they offer along with it are flavorful and fresh and quality of food has always been consistent . Good customer service and reasonably priced menu items, we will be visiting again and again :)

We ordered the chaat and the masala dosa for lunch a little after 1pm on a Monday. We were on a rush and thought these would be quick for or short lunch break. First, the chaat came fairly quickly. Perhaps they thought we were sharing the chaat and that’s why they took so long with the dosa entrée? Doubtful though, since we asked for it repeatedly… at a not busy hour. Also, apparently the masala dosa is not stuffed with potatoes. It’s just a spicy dosa. Not what we’re used to. Make sure to ask the waiter for the right one.

After multiple attempts at take out that were less than desirable, we had decided to steer clear of Chutneys but a few of the reviews and the limited vegetarian options in the area made us reconsider. The takeout mixups happened within the first few months of them opening and the first time, they forgot our order and the second time, they gave us someone else’s order. Since that was a while ago, it was time for a third chance and we went for breakfast buffet on a weekend. The food/service was subpar and failed to win us over. The good thing going for Chutneys is that it has a decent looking seating space, which is not usually the case in the other vegetarian joints around Newark Ave. The buffet was mainly south Indian fare, dosas, idlis etc with some puri and dhoklas thrown in for good measure. For something named Chutneys, it takes a lot of nerve to serve the stale tasting chutneys that came along with the dosas/idlis .I love south Indian food so it says something when I did not even like a single thing in the breakfast buffet. The dosas/idlis were forgettable. The vadas were hard, the puris were oily and even the tea/coffee(which I adore in south Indian restaurants) failed to live up to expectations. I am not sure if there will be a next time around Chutneys, so I guess this is where our rocky relationship ends. I am tired of giving you chances!

I had ordered cholle bhature from this place using . It took them 2 hrs to get us the food. The service is really really bad. Everytime, we used to call them, they had some or the other excuse for the delay. The cholle bhature was just medicore. They really need to work on their service.

We went to this place and the service is ridiculous! Please don’t go with too high expectations. The filter coffee was bad and was returned by two customers. There was no courtesy to say«sorry» or be apologetic being in a restaurant business. Also, CHUTNEYS, please POST timings of your buffet so that you don’t have to explain every customer individually. All in all– not visiting again.

Do not visit. Repeat after me, do not visit. Sapthagiri is better for South Indian food. I went there and had the worst service ever. The waiter took 10 minutes to get us menus. Another ten to come for the order(after we got his attention) and another 20 before we got our food. We had ordered a tali. As part of it, there are many items that need to be served through the meal. The waiter did not get us these items until we asked for the items that were promised. It took us so long that we left before getting to dessert. The saving grace was that the management acknowledged their shortcomings and gave us a discount on the bill. However, I would rather pay for better service.

We have dined in a couple times and had good experiences. My favorite is uttapam and the lassi. They gave us free dessert everytime we dined in and it tasted great. Food delivery experience wasn’t the same, coconut chutney tasted stale and hyderabadi masala dosa filling tasted bad.

Okish, didnt like the food, service too late. Tatse is not up to mark. Never try north indian food here… They served plain dosa and billed me for butter dosa… Rava kesari was not good… They said that its too rush and we dont have staff… So service is late… Table next to me was served after an hour…

They promised a 60 min delivery. It has been 1 hour 40 min and I’m still waiting — Looks like they need to do a much better job on this front. I hope they deliver it today ;) Update: they delivered it finally. Taste-wise its okay(though lacks the quality of its counterparts at Hyderabad and Detroit) but the delivery times need to be improved.

We were visiting Jersey city couple of months ago and went to Chutneys for dinner. Fantastic food and very authentic. We(wife and friends) tried a number of dishes since we haven’t seen such a large spread in a South Indian place before. Pretty much everything we tried — mirchi bajji, appam, Mysore bajji, Guntur Idli and paratha were all excellent. Best bajjis I have had in a long time. My wife and daughter liked appam and paneer appetizer. Chutneys were good, they had 4 – 5 of them, were a bit less spicy for my taste. Service was great, they were real nice customized the paneer dish for our 3 yr old, who eats no spice. Funny thing is, I was in Hyderabad, India couple of weeks ago and went to the Chutneys there. I thought this place in jersey city is way more authentic and better quality food. That’s what prompted me to write this review few moths later. We will definitely visit this place whenever we are in Jersey City.

You have got to do the Andhra meals in this place, start with the podi(orange powder) and ghee, move on to spinach dal, rasam and sambhar. You can’t go wrong. The best Andhra meals I have had in this country. The rest of the stuff that we tried like the fried veggies, masala dosa and Idli was pretty standard and nice but for me the highlight was the Andhra meals which comes with a buttermilk drink and a sweet. Give it a shot, it’s authentic and awesome.

I absolutely love indian food. Yiu easiky find north indian food, but southindian is a rarity. Chutneys… fresh made dosas, awesome staff, great coffee, powder free mango lasi. Come here for any meal of the day, and you will go out happy. Special shout out to the staff… great service. Tip — chutney classic dosa. Fyi, it’s kosher so enjoy my Jewish friends!

The Andhra combination is substantial, providing curries and other items that give enough flavor and texture that you won’t be yearning for meat in this vegetarian spot. I don’t know what the name of the item with fried potatoes was called, but that was probably the best. On the downside, the combination didn’t include the advertised dessert, the service wasn’t so great and the TV was too loud.

Gr8 place for vegetarians! The food here is addictive. Dosas and uthappams are fantabulous. Chat items are simply perfect. We had ordered for pani poori, onion rava masala dosa, appam and mix veg uthappam. Absolutely impressive. There were a variety of chutneys all of which we’re good and the sambar was very well made. Ambience is superb!!! t Best among any of the restaurants in the entire street. The appam tastes like the one in south India. Absolutely, no difference on that. The service is nice too. U need something and they r right there to assist u. Unfortunately could not taste all the items, Definitely coming back to try the remaining menu.

Came here because it is vegetarian– a plus point for me… A lot of restaurants around this block are self service and/or don’t come often to check on how your doing… Chutneys was the opposite Sanitization-5/5 Fried idli– very flavorful and tasty Dosa– very good and large enough for two meals Plain idli– very nice… quantity also earns a plus point Chola Bathura– very spicy and awesome This restaurant is new so I don’t know if they’re not gonna be as good as the weeks go on, but they are at a good start
