This hotel could use an update. I was not impressed for it being a Hampton Inn. Yes, the expected white duvets and four pillow options were there as well as the bathroom amenities but something was off. I see that Hampton Inn has swooped into try to make update with HI signature room pieces at some point like the black picture frames, large black frame mirror and the furniture outfitting but very important areas that change the entire ambience weren’t done. The drab carpeting and draperies were left in place making the hotel look pretty crappy. Old paint on walls, weird odors around the floors(Smelled of recent smokers tho a non-smoking floor/hotel), odd things from old hotels. The refrigerator had scummy white marks(possibly mold?) building up on the rubber seal. Not my idea of a comfortable Hampton Inn that we’ve become accustomed too. The beds were comfortable and the duvet is thick enough to stay warm when you were socks. They do have an extra blanket on the closet(but messily shoved in the bag by the last user). The weirdest thing upon walking into the room were the handwritten Post-It notes tacked up to to the headboards stating«Duvet covers & sheets are clean for your arrival». Thank you, but when coming to a Hampton or any hotel I would automatically expect that be the case. I was actually creeped out more because someone had to go and write what should have already been a fact on a Post — It for the guest. Hmmm. Nighttime, these doors walls are the thinnest I’ve experienced from a Hampton Inn. When your neighbor slams a door you can hear it very much! Constantly for several hours in the wee morning. Downstairs, breakfast was a nice and standard Hampton set up. Large display of food options and the fresh fruit set up had large variety of cut fruits. The community area was nice and inviting. From the few particular areas I’ve seen of Joplin near highway 44, I’m gathering that generally ran down hotels may be the standard. Perhaps, this could or could not be reflective on the area instead of the hotel but I’m unsure. This may be a bit harsh the way I saw the hotel through my eyes if it is the case that the HI remains the nicer hotel in the city, but I was really looking forward to their fresh standards across the chain to comfort myself after my terribly long drive and trip ahead. Based on other outer looks, I would still likely chose this hotel over others in the area. The staff was nice and pleasant. Very friendly and helpful.

I stayed here while on business and being from sunny southern california, Joplin is quite a change in scenery. The Hampton Inn is located near a lot of other hotels along with restaurants all in the same city block. I think it’s one of the better looking hotels(the Residence Inn was the only one that looked better than the Hampton Inn). There is plenty of parking and they even have side entrances so you don’t have to walk in from the front lobby. During my 5 night stay here(Sunday — Friday), there was an earthquake that hit the night before so we were feeling some aftershocks(as I was told). I kept thinking my hotel room was haunted because my stuff kept falling off the counters but I’m glad to know that it was due to aftershocks and not actual ghosts. In addition to the earthquake, there was a thunderstorm in which lightning struck a generator and power for the whole block was out. I was in the hotel room trying to wrap up some work and this was around 11:30pm at night so it made it even scarier that power went off. Luckily for me, I was able to wake up my co-worker and we both walked down to the lobby to see what was going on. Walking down hotel hallways when the light is off is really scary and it seems like it could be a scene from a scary movie. So we get down to the lobby and we pretty much scared the receptionist at the front desk. I don’t know why they would staff a female employee to do the night shift — not to be sexist but it’s just terrible! We ended up chatting with her for a few hours until I got too tired and went back to my room. The power was still out but the hotel receptionist was super nice and gave me a candle jar to take back to my room. The hotel employees are definitely friendly and will go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The Hampton Inn offers free wifi and free breakfast every morning. Their selection for breakfast is actually pretty good with a variety of things to choose from. They have hot foods(eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage), waffle maker, toast, oatmeal, cereal, fruits & pastries. They even pack brown bag breakfasts for those on the go. I had a queen bed room which is handicap accessible. I was told all of their queen beds are handicap accessible rooms so it draws in the senior crowds. The hotel is very quiet and no one really hangs out in the lobby. Definitely a good place to get lots of rest as you’ll never see/hear young kids coming back at 2−3am drunk from partying. My only issue was that my bathroom shower head was broken when I got there. I called maintenance to fix it. I don’t think they did anything because it sprayed everywhere when I turned on the water. Not a big deal, I guess. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here.

If you are reading this review, you are probably looking for a hotel in Joplin, MO. First off, I’m sorry you are stuck in Joplin. Good luck getting out. This Hampton Inn is what you would expect from a Hampton Inn. Clean, fairly updated, good basic breakfast in the morning. The gym is in what appears to be a converted room, and fairly small, but got the job done. When I was staying here, FEMA was there as well. They parked their luxury RVs plastered with FEMA on the side in the parking lot. Annoying, yes, but goes to show you that if it is better than a $ 300K+ RV, its ay-ok. The only thing that kept it from being 5 stars is what keeps all Hampton Inns from being 5 stars. OLDPEOPLE. They invade the first floor and take up all the tables in the breakfast area. I don’t understand it, but Hamptons are magnets for the geriatric. At least they complain a lot so everything is always well stocked.
