Incredible food. One of my favorites in KC. Baked potato casserole is outstanding. A must. Had a choice of spicy or sweet sauce. Both were perfect.

Great local BBQ. My favorite pulled pork in Kansas city. The staff is quick to greet you when you walk in and service is fast. I feel the portions are much larger than other BBQ places around town as well. Get here early as lines form and they tend to run out of the good stuff early.

I had brisket, sausage and burnt ends. All VERY good. I really like the sausage. Spicy with some cheese. There is not a ton of seating but it is a cool place, easy to find, fast and the food is great.

I was visiting KC and know it’s good for ribs. Went there an hour before they closed and the door was locked. I guess when they run out of food they close. Good luck!

Love this place! Great Food, ridiculously good BBQ sauce. Their Warm Potato Salad(not sure that’s the proper name) is great too. I kind of like their classic old school place, but I honestly believe their BBQ is so good that they deserve to portray themselves as more upscale in presentation. The guys preparing food are always super friendly, a couple of the guys there will go out of their way when they’re not terribly busy to talk food, not just BBQ, which I love to do with people who are involved with making food as great as they do.(they usually know of a great place I haven’t tried yet) I’ve been to Slap’s probably 7 times in the last 12 months which is a lot outside from the one or two other places I geek out at, along with trying any new place in the Metro that I hear about or that opens up. Only reason these guys don’t get that last star is because they are so much better than their location and the way their food presents on the tray. Would love to see them get more creative, and attract those Foody types and be a bigger player in the KCBBQ scene as their food is much better than the majority. Also not asking for Q39 stuff here, I like an experience in a BBQ joint, and I want these guys to stand out from the crowd, they’re food is freakin great.

Wow! Is all I have to say! The food was amazingggggg– got the ribs and burnt ends with sides of potato casserole and Cole slaw. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal! Not from here but if I ever find myself back in Kansas City I will make it a priority to come back!

All meats are top notch. Burnt ends and ribs are the best in the city that I have tasted. Potato casserole and beans can’t be missed. Rumor has it they are expanding and will have the building next door adding more seating and a bar with roof top deck.

It’s hard to walk in this place and not verbally say the word you’re thinking… «Classic». They serve you your BBQ on a paper, the smokers are sitting where everyone can see them and it just feels like BBQ is suppose to feel from an atmosphere standpoint. The best part was the guy who owns the joint and is on the tv shows is right there handing you the meat he smoked. If that doesn’t say«I’m damn proud of this BBQ» I don’t know what does. I had the ribs and pulled pork. They were both very good, but the rib I had was exceptional. I got a different rack than my boss, and mine looked much better than his, but my goodness it was perfect. They’re more of a dry rub rub than your usual KC Q, which is a nice switch up. The best cooked BBQ rib I’ve probably ever eaten. These guys are on par with Q39 for BBQ. Still giving q39 the edge because they competition cut their brisket(tried some of my boss’s at Slaps) and Beef is king.

Slap’s BBQ is a recent addition to Kansas City’s storied plethora of barbeque, having been here a few times I feel that I can accurately review this delectable trip for one’s senses. Let’s get the issues out of the way first. The most notable qualm I have can be seen when first driving by the location. There are a few parking places upfront and a road on the side for more parking. A somewhat empty parking lot across the way. That is about it, on the inside there is seating for maybe 28. To top it off, this place place gets busy. So busy that there can be a back order of ribs or burnt ends. There is a special on wings on Wednesday’s that can run out by 1:30p. Running out of food isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the BBQ is simply that good. When entering one will be greeted by friendly faces and a pleasant wave of smokey flavor. The menu is clear, with everything having some customization. The staff is accommodating and helpful, answering any BBQ related questions and chatting up customers during the slower periods of the day. The ribs are surprisingly delicious, rivaling Joe’s KC in terms of tenderness and flavor. The burnt ends beat Jack Stack’s own famous specialty. Maybe even more tempting then the ribs to be honest. Pulled pork and brisket are both delicious on their own, making the sandwich offerings for a quick lunch a great option for on-the-go businessman working downtown KC. The BBQ beans are average, cheesy corn is good but nothing that impresses. Potato casserole is exquisite, one might recall a fond memory of grandma’s cooking when enjoying the cheesy goodness. Standard fair of drinks and beer, complimentary, but nothing unique such as a home-brewed sweet tea. The meats all have a dry rub, nothing heavy or detracting from the sauces. Pricing is competitive to other local BBQ joins, so no worries there. There are two sauces, sweet and spicy. If you like the sweetness of traditional Kansas City BBQ, the former is for you. The latter is a kind of heat that reminds one’s taste-buds to dance. The spicy sauce has a stronger vinegar base as well so those from the Carolina’s can appreciate the flavor. Combine the two and the flavor-trip will commence some mouth-watering to be sure. Oh my god the french fries though. Here is a whole paragraph devoted to the fries: If there is anything that might make this review biased it is due to the amount of artery clogging calories I have ingested from the fries here. I can literally order three sets of fries and eat them with the sweet BBQ sauce all day. Green Room and Beer Kitchen have great fries, but the double-frying done at Slap’s beats out anything in KC. Six-way bypass baby, oh yea! HYYYYYPE. HYPE. HYPETHEFRIES. Ahem. Some of the grease must’ve inevitably seeped into my brain. Anywho. Let’s just go through a list of some of the best BBQ in Kansas City, in random order: Q39, Arthur Bryant’s, Jack Stack, Joe’s KC, B.B.‘s, Char Bar, and Gates Now let’s add Slap’s BBQ to that list. Yea, that’s right, the owners have actually won many local and national BBQ competitions. I’m giving this place a five based off of the food alone, but improvements can be made both in terms of parking and seating, hopefully a new building and location. Some sides can be worked on to add more flavor and punch. I have high hopes that Slap’s will make history as a KCBBQ legend. Locale and ambience: 3 Friendliness: 5 Food: 5 Price: 3 Overall: 4

Damn this was good, and we didn’t even get to try the infamous ribs because they were sold out. The pulled pork was sweet deliciousness. Apparently they pour the rib juice over it and that just puts it over the top. Hands down it is the BESTPULLEDPORK I’ve ever had. The loaded potato casserole was pretty good. The fries were the double battered kind I like. It’s a dive-ish place, but that won’t stop us from returning. It is a little expensive for bbq, but it’s worth the money and worth the drive to KCK. Oh yes, and the owners and his family members were so friendly to us… made us feel very welcomed.

My nephew sent me to this place and I am thankful he did. It is a little place with terrible parking — but the inconvenience of that is well worth it for the food. My biggest disappointment is that they were out of the bottles of the hot bbq sauce for me to take with me, but the sweet even had a little bite to it which was delightful. I had the ribs and brisket and they were amazing. I actually cannot wait to make my way back there thought to try different meats that they make. The service was amazing in that it was both helpful and they were friendly. If you like KCBBQ — you have to try this spot.

I love supporting local Ma & Pa Restaurants, and it helps when the food is good. So I ordered the Sampler plate and they were soo kind to replace the pork with more beef and turkey.(The Sausage is Beef btw.) I also got the ¼ lb of Burnt Ends, cheesy corn, hush-puppies, beans, & the potato bake.(& Ribs for the hubby.) The bbq sauce was a little weird, more of a teriyaki sauce, but I did hear the owner say to someone that she put in a sweet sauce and a hot sauce, so I will try the hot sauce for dinner. The Burnt Ends were some of the best I’ve had, I would easily put them in my top 3! Cheesy Corn and Potato bake were really tasty, but I don’t think I will be ordering the beans next time, a bit too oniony for my taste buds. Overall a good Bbq joint!

Wow, what a find! The ribs were so good they didn’t require any sauce and the burnt ends were tender and juicy. I loved the potato casserole, but the cheesy corn was mediocre, but don’t get me wrong… I ate it all! Only seating for 28 people and parking for 5 cars in the lot, so come mid afternoon if you can!

FANTASTIC food!!! Sort of a hole in the wall in a run-down part of town(ALL of KC Kansas is run-down!), but don’t let that deter you. Nice, friendly folks who are rightly proud of their food. Had the ribs + burnt ends. Didn’t look like a lot at first, but I was stuffed. Flavor is excellent, meat falls off the bone & melts in your mouth. Burnt ends are less«burned» than other places and that’s a good thing… yummy little nuggets that you can’t get enough of. Baked potato side was excellent, cole slaw was disappointing, baked beans were great. If I lived nearby I’d eat here at least once a week!

Slaps was great! We had been hearing a lot of buzz about this BBQ joint so we had to check it out. It’s a small place, only a few tables inside. The men behind the counter were super friendly and decked out in Royals gear eager to chat with us about BBQ and the royals playoff run. We ordered the sampler plate and added on ribs and burnt ends so we could literally try all the BBQ meats. For our sides we chose the potato casserole and fries(I wanted the cheesy corn but I digress). And as any respectable BBQ place does — they also loaded us up with pickles, jalapeños, and bread. The ribs were perfect. You can get the perfect bite were the rib that you bit falls off the bone but leaves the rest of the rib in place. The burnt ends were huge. The sausage was flavorful. To rate this place in terms of my Kansas City BBQ preference I would say better than Gates and Arthur Bryant’s(I’m serious) but not quite as yummy as Joe’s or Q39. I’d definitely recommend this place to any BBQ fan.

Now I know why everyone is raving about Slaps! Forget all the other BBQ joints, Slaps is the best! I had the pork sandwich, baked potato casserole and some sausage. The pork was amazing. It had a hint if sweet and apple and although I tasted both BBQ options on the table, this sandwich didn’t need any help at all. As a non KC native, I don’t get the drown you deliciously cooked meat in sauce, and Slaps meat is so delicious and moist you won’t need to. The sausage was also fantastic. A nice snap, not over powered with spices, a hint of heat. As amazing as the sandwich was most of it came home and the sausage was devoured. The baked potato casserole was declared everyone’s favorite side. It was OK, although a little too much floating butter for me. The building is small. I would guess a cluster when busy. Parking is limited, but there is street parking. Prices seem in line with other BBQ joints. Service is great. Slaps could easily expand and take over the city. I suggest a new location off Troost… ;)

Slaps is easily becoming one of the best BBQ joints in that KC metro area. DISCLAIMERGETTHEREEARLY! This is a place where they believe in quality over quantity so they make enough food in order to ensure freshness and quality so if they run out of burnt ends or some chap comes in and buys 10 slabs for his company. just come back early the next time. They have a unique BBQ sauce… not molasses based… it’s good no doubt! All meat served naked unless otherwise requested… Ribs 9.5 Burnt ends 9.25

The best BBQ I had while in KC! It’s good to have a friend from the city you’re travelling to that can take you(or tell you) about all the hot spots you might otherwise pass up. Slap’s opens each day at 11am and when they sell out, then you’re SOL. If you have a huge order, you can email or call ahead to preorder and they’ll have it all set for you to pick up. I was able to try a ton of items from Slap’s…Yep we pretty much binge ate. The sausages were so friggin good with great seasoning. Loved the brisket, loved the burnt ends Those hugh puppies though! They were so tasty and an order of the little guys is just $ 2.75. It’s a must get on the side of your meal. The cheesy corn is another must try while there. Slap’s BBQ really seems to do all their sides right, as well as their main meats. Slap’s BBQ is a must do while in Kansas City! Get there 15 – 30 minutes before opening because a line seems to form every morning to get in on their meaty goodness.
