Have lived in kapolei for 21⁄12 years and have never been into taco del mar until today. I had a pregnancy craving for some Mexican. I think I’ll wait to have Mexican food till My next visit to Texas. This place needs some work. My food was slimy and overpriced. Also, the queso Tasted like movie theater nacho sauce. Disgusting! Never again!

After reading several good reviews I was very excited to try Taco Del Mar after moving to the Kapolei area. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed! Everything looked like it had been sitting out all day. I ordered a mondo burrito. It was very mediocre. I most likely will not return. My burrito had a strange after taste, similar to propane gas. Kinda weird.

I have no idea if I came in while all the bad employees were working but dude… Kerry or whatever her name is, leaning on the wall when I walked in, no hello welcome! No how are you doing today? Just a frown, slouched over employee with no customer service at all. Just thinking of her face annoys me. Other than that, the food sucked, the owner is the same as the employees. At first I thought. How does this place hire these girls and than I saw the owner and thought oh… The owner didn’t even know the girls name when I asked for it. Than they want to act like they were all sweet when I asked for there name. Ya too late. I’m in the service industry and would never treat even the worst customers like they treated me. I wanted to just walk out but they already made half of the food so I just paid and left. Never returning. No wonder they have 2 stars. That is so horrible.

I was a little bit displeased with the service and quality of the food. I should have gone to Taco Bell and received a better meal and better customer service. The lady who was handling my food seemed very grouchy, unwelcoming and annoyed when I asked questions and made requests on my meals. The food that arrived was not the best taste or quality. The food tasted really bland and plain. I enjoyed my meal at Taco Bell more than this place. I don’t think I am ever coming back to this place.

If you happen to go here while the Owner is working, beware, she is super anal. She will use her hawk eyes to scan the entire restaurant for anyone acting unruly more particularly anyone trying to get free refills at the soda fountain. I thought I liked their fish tacos until one day I took my wife and she pointed out to me that the fish is processed and not a real slab like how you get at wahoos or chilis. Oh well, I still liked it but will not get a fish taco from them again. My wife enjoyed her burrito as she custom built it to be on the healthy side.

So you can see that the owners chincy behavior is having an impact on the employees, he watches to make sure they do nothing wrong. He should stay home an let the workers work. The food is still good so please go.

Great place to eat… clean restaurant with hot food that tastes great. My only complaint is that they’ve switched plastic cutlery to those cheap unusable kind that you find at cheap Chinese food places. If they don’t go back, bring your own or your hands will be covered in taco sauce from the bending twisting fork and knife.

Just ok it’s actually a little cold and they don’t fill their burritos up and $ 8.15 for burrito?

Hubby wanted some Mexican food today so we decided on dining @ Taco Del Mar. Customer service okay, food a little pricey and additional cost of $ 3.99 to get a combo. Crunchy tacos were not as crunchy, sour cream watery, taco chips kinda stale… Should have gone to Taco Bell. not so much of a happy camper. :(

I sat outside to eat and an employe in uniform sat a table away and smoked. Illegal in Hawaii and no regards for a customer. Ruined my meal.

Terrible. The meat and beans were watery. The service was terrible and the food literally tasted like garbage. They also charge you for everything you add to your burrito or salad. It is amazing that this place is still in business. Go to the Mililani store. It’s good. I would stay away from this place.

Pretty cool looking place nothing special except that this place is a rip off 10 bucks for a burrito the portion of meat is a joke plus I had to pay extra for sour cream and guacamole which without exaggerating was a little over a tablespoon of guacamole and when I asked for some chipotle mayo sauce that was an extra charge also so I declined that lol definitely won’t be back sorry

Save yourself and don’t waste your time, appetite, or money here. Why did I come here? I knew I didn’t like this place from the last time that I came here with my family. But I wanted some Mexican close by our house(and not taco Bell) so I decided to give this place another chance. I should have gone to Taco Bell. I got the platter with a taco and enchilada. The rice and beans sucked. The rice was hard and the beans were flavorless, weird for black beans. My chicken had no flavor to it. And they gave so little!!! My platter was discounted at $ 7.95, normally $ 9.95, but even at that price it wasn’t worth it. For the amount of food I was given, I shouldn’t have paid more than $ 5. Their sour cream was severely watered down. It dripped. Sour cream doesn’t drip. And there was no taste because it was basically water. Ugh…shame on me for coming here again. Never again. Next time I will go to Taco Bell for a quick meal or better yet, El Paelnque in Wahiawa for the best Mexican I have found on island thus far.

This review is based more on customer service. The food is alright, nothing too special in my opinion but average. Today was my first time trying Taco Del Mar in Kapolei, I called in a phone order and arrived about 20 minutes after I called in my order. I walked into the empty restaurant and went straight to the cashier counter where there were two girls working in front. So one of the girls asked me what I would like and I told her I have a phone order for Sara. after that she kinda mumbled something and pointed at the girl next to her so I turned to her and told her I have a phone order and she mumbled something too so I said«excuse me?» And she mumbled something again so i had to say«Excuse me» again then she finally told me «oh you gotta wait for my mom, she’s in the back,» and she went back to what she was doing. which was absolutely nothing. Unprofessional much? So I just waited by the cash register for the girls mom. a woman came out from the back a few minutes later who I’m assuming was the mom and said«phone order?» And I said yes. so she turned around and grabbed my order that was sitting on the counter the entire time! I didn’t get any«sorry for the wait» or «thanks for waiting,» she just rang me up and handed me the food. What angered me was that these two girls weren’t even doing anything but just standing there. They could’ve just grabbed the food directly behind them that was ready to go and rang me up and saved me some time and a bad customer service experience. I hope they learn some basic customer service skills some day!

I was craving Mexican food and hoped this place would satisfy my craving but sadly, it didn’t. The food was alright but I don’t see myself returning unless I am super desperate and can’t find a better Mexican food joint in the area(we just moved to the island a few weeks ago). Not to mention that it was overpriced. They charge for everything. It’s a little ridiculous. I am surprised they didn’t charge me for my fork or napkins. We are a family of 5 with three kids under age 6 and when I just wanted 2 drinks, the(I assume) manager informed me that I wasn’t allowed to do refills on shared drinks. What a joke! Who does that?! Which brings me to the service. The manager, which was the one who was serving us, just seemed like a grumpy lady. I felt awkward after interacting with her. So if anyone else can recommend some legit, delicious Mexican food in the area, please let me know!

I recently moved from the mainland and lived in an area with seriously THEBEST Mexican food ever. With that on my mind, I decided to walk in to this place hoping it’d at least satisfy my craving but it didn’t. I was truly disappointed. The food was pre-made sitting in the ‘cafeteria’ type setting for who knows how long, the rice tasted like it was from the box, it cost so much more for add ons(sour cream, guacamole, etc), the ladies working weren’t friendly at all. It’s like they expected you to know how the ordering process goes. But two stars for having the place clean. Man… Maybe I just have really high standards. I’m Still determined to find the best Mexican food on this island!

Wow, TDM, you are quite pricy. The food honestly isn’t so bad, my soft tacos were pretty fresh and tasty, but I wouldn’t come here on my own. As long as someone else is paying, I don’t mind coming whenever. This particular location is interesting. The service isn’t bad but the aunties are very local so unless you understand what that means or how to interact with them, you might get a bad opinion when really, they weren’t doing anything wrong. It’s clean inside and kinda empty during the daytime. I’ve never come at night. If you’re looking for a quiet place to have some mexican/spanish food for lunch where you can actually talk to you date, this is the place to go. A-OK rating because that’s just what it is. Pretty good food to be honest, but on the pricy side and nothing really wows me about the spot. Good for taco cravings.

I walked in at 9pm, they still took my order, and allowed me to eat in their restaurant. It took me a while to order becuz there are so many options to chose from. So many meats, beans, salsa, sides, etc. The woman who put my 2 Taco Combo together was very patient and helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. I read a lot of reviews before writing my own and I saw that a lot of ppl were complaining of about how it’s not the best Mexican restaurant/fast food joint in town or that their portions are very small… But in my opinion, I want to defend this place by saying: 1. They’re definitely not trying to be an authentic Mexican restaurant. The food they serve is an alternative to traditional Mexican food and the vibe is completely different. It’s like surfer food??? And it’s «fast food» what do you expect? If you want real Mexican food go to a real Mexican restaurant! Unilocal them! We have quite a few on this side of the island. And 2. My tacos were the perfect size. Giving this place 4 stars becuz I wouldn’t really recommend this place to a friend or anything… But they’re pretty good. I was happy and full when I left & that’s all that really matters.

Ordered a Vegan Mondo Burrito. As I have a MANY times before at various other Taco Del Mar locations. So I know whats up when it comes to these things. It was my first time at this location and It will probably also be my last time at this location. Smallest. Mondo. Burrito. EVER! 1 scoop rice, 1 scoop beans, and equally small portions of the other stuff. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure on the vegan mondo burrito there is supposed to be 2 scoops on at least one, if not both of those things. anyways, it came out to be the smallest burrito I have ever had from a Taco Del Mar. I felt the need to get a drink so you can see for yourself that it’s not even bigger than the can. Never again Kapolei Taco Del Mar. Never again.

Since moving back home from LA, my In-N-Out, Pinkberry, and Chipotle cravings have been largely unfulfilled. While these chains are irreplaceable, I have been able to find local substitutes that do their part to satisfy. Taco Del Mar ain’t no Chipotle, but it’ll do! Serving similar items like a monster-sized burritos and bowls, Taco Del Mar’s made-to-order and customizable menu is an upgrade from your usual Taco Bell experience, but its limited variety of fresh vegetables and its lack of Lime Cilantro rice keeps it from joining Chipotle’s ranks at the top. I ordered the Mondo Burrito which is very MONDO indeed! Packed with rice, beans, a meat of your choice, cheese, pico de gallo, and salsa, my Mondo Burrito was almost the size of my head! I, of course, ate it all, but not without struggling a bit to finish! You can choose between flour, wheat, or spinach tortillas, black or refried beans, ground beef, carne asada, shredded beef, fish, or chicken, and mild, medium, or spicy salsas allowing you to customize your burrito to your own tastes and preferences. For $ 2.89, you can also upgrade your order to a combo which comes with rice and beans or chips and salsa and a 22 oz. fountain drink. You can even order a beer with your burrito. Domestics are $ 3.50 and Imports are $ 4.00. I can always rely on Taco Del Mar for a quick and filling dinner to-go, but it certainly isn’t the best Mexican food in Hawaii and it definitely isn’t Chipotle. Sigh…
