After parasailing next door, my sisters and I decided to stop in for a drink and lunch. The drinks were good, but the food wasn’t. We got the fried olive appetizer and it just wasn’t good. The flavor combination of the bleu cheese inside the green olive, covered in breading, with fig jam for dipping… it just didn’t work. I ordered the Caribbean Mahi Mahi and it was charred and so overcooked and dry that it hurt to swallow it. I sent it back and had it redone, but it came out just as bad. There was zero flavor. It was supposed to be served on a bed of sautéed spinach and kale, but there were maybe three leaves of spinach and the rest of it was mustard greens… not kale and not yummy. The server was sweet, though very slow.

Had been there as a stopover while my husband and older kid went for a parasailing ride. The server was quite grumpy and wasn’t very interested as I didn’t place a huge order. The menu has nothing interesting the typical touristy average menu. Not going there again.

Fantastic food, especially the Mahi Mahi and key lime pie! View and staff are awesome too! Reyna our waitress had great suggestions. A must visit.

Food was decent, but I found the menu to be very deceiving. The conch and clam chowder is cream based rather than tomato based, which was very disappointing for me because I love to try conch chowder at every new place I eat in the keys. Not worth the price. The atmosphere was also sub par. The outside area is nice, but all of the inside tables are poorly organized and unappealing.

BESTKEYLIMEPIEAROUND!!! The food is a little pricey for the portion size. Overall worth the visit, the view itself/key lime pie is worth a few extra bucks.

I can only echo what everyone else has already said: — people come here for the view(sit outside and people watch! Sometimes you can even see dolphins and there are tarpons near the deck) — tourist trap: food is waaaay overpriced. I recommend maybe ordering a few appetizers to go with your drinks — I ordered the burger with an egg on top and it was delicious! — Calamari was average — the first beer on the menu(can’t remember the name) is very refreshing! — service was good

This place could raise its game overnight to become a 4. It’s location is perfect for watching the sun go down whilst enjoying a cocktail and or eating a good meal. It’s service needs to be better and more attention to detail. It was busy, which is a good sign, maybe that is why service was not 100%. We waited maybe 25 mins for a table table. No problem, we will grab a drink from the outside bar. Service was slow at the bar and after waiting a good while the mojito ordered had a weak mint flavour to it, not the punchy flavour I am used to. We asked for a lemonade and were told the outside bar does not offer lemonade but the inside bar does. Really?! So we ended up ordering a glass of Sprite which was completely flat — gas less. There was some live music playing outside, which is always nice to have. As the sun set the restaurant lighting became visible and there is an area by the water front where fish accumulate by a light shining in the water. Very nice and good atmosphere. We sat down to eat, my knife, folk and napkin were dirty. I guess this happens sometimes, no drama, they replaced it. For entrée we ordered the cracked conch, shrimp and calamari — the wasabi dip is inspirational. We were very pleased with our choice of starters and were looking forward to our mains. The mains didn’t disappoint. There were baby back ribs ordered, which were nice and the fresh catch of snapper and grouper stuffed with crab were delicious. By the time that was eaten everyone was full but could have all shared a key lime pie, they had sold out! Must have been one tasty pie. We had spent the afternoon at Pennekamp and this was a place that was very close and fulfilled our appetite.

Just left sundowners as my husband and I were celebrating our 5th year wedding anniversary. We usually come out once or twice a year when we want to celebrate something very special. As I’ve said before I’ve been coming here since 2006 and I got my husband hooked on the key lime seafood since 2010. I am going to start with the positive. Sundowners has remodeled their place, especially the outside patio areas. Great job ! Their service is still good and of course so is their crème brûlée with raspberry sauce. Tonight I tried the mango coconut mojito and the crispy Thai calamari, very good !! Their complimentary bread with coconut pineapple butter is very tasty. The sunsets are spectacular! The ambiance is always very tropical and makes me feel like I’m on an island. Love it ! Why 3 stars? Well, sadly, they changed the key lime seafood recipe. It’s now made with wild rice. BUTWHY ?!! It changed the taste of the dish completely. My husband and I were so upset. This is our FAVORITE dish ! This dish used to be sort of soupy and tangy before. We liked this. It’s now kind of dry. We definitely did not like the wild rice :( We will continue to come back but we definitely miss the original key lime seafood.

I should be embarrassed to say this however i actually ate lunch and dinner here yesterday. Went for the music festival and arrived around 12pm and stayed till 9pm. Had the hot tin roof sandwich which i loved. Snagged some conch fritters off my friends dish which i also really liked. The second go around i wasn’t as thrilled. Ordered the bayou pasta which said it was spicy Cajun Alfredo sauce but it was flavorless. HOWEVER drinks are good, atmosphere was great and the sunset was spectacular.

Came in for dinner, parking was full so ended up parking across the street. Make sure to come in the evening to watch the beautiful sunset!

Stopped in here twice while spending a week visiting my father in Key Largo. It’s a very nice location right on the bay, perfect for watching the sun go down. Parking was a bit difficult, somewhat limited because it shares a lot with another restaurant. Even so, we were able to park. Friendly faces greeted us, and we were seated immediately. We sat on the covered patio. The table was clean and ready for us. I ordered the seafood and filet mignon kabobs on a bed of wild rice for $ 24. The presentation was nice, with onions and bell pepper chunks added between the pieces of filet, shrimp, and scallops. Wow, were the kabobs good! The servers were attentive and got our order just right. I would certainly go back!

Edit: Since the owner sees fit to claim it was fresh tuna: I’ve had fresh tuna that’s smoked. I’ve also had canned tuna. Fresh tuna doesn’t look like the picture and doesn’t have a canned texture. They may«smoke» it in house, but that’s 100% canned tuna. Gorgeous place to watch a sunset, and our waiter was amazing. That’s kind of where it ends. Went for the sunset after a day of kayaking and snorkeling before heading back up north. Got a couple of cocktails and the smoked tuna dip. Cocktails were fine but nothing to write home about, and at Brooklyn prices, they weren’t worth it. My issue, though, is the smoked tuna dip. Looked like canned tuna and presentation was awful. They served it with mediocre crackers out of a box and a leaf of lettuce, topped with some haphazard jalapenos. It was $ 14. I mean, I know this is a tourist trap, but $ 14 for a glob of tuna and some crackers?! I can make that in my house for $ 2. Get a drink and watch the sunset. Skip the food. Vince, you’re the man.

Went for sunset. AMAZINGVIEW! Some downsides: 1) service was very very slow, we maybe saw our waiter twice it took 20 minutes for our drinks and another 35 minutes for food 2) i was very unimpressed with our appetizer the smoked tuna dip. I was not expecting smoked canned tuna in a place like that 3) my cocktail was a glorified slushy i expected my mojito cocktail to have real ice cubes not crushed ice that filled the entire glass 4) i got the tuna pizza the tuna cuts were a little on the chewy side and the pizza crust was like a fried tortilla it was super thin and crunchy not pizza like at all. Go for the view at sunset and drinks, also we heard they had a happy hour. Please note it is ONLY at the bar, not restaraunt wide.

Unfortunately, the only good thing about this place is the location: on the water & perfect for sunsets! They have live music too, which I enjoyed until the drunks at the outdoor bar were out of control at a ripe 6pm. And when you’re in the Keys, you’d expect the seafood to be extremely fresh, but Sundowners uses frozen tilapia for both their blackened fish tacos & tilapia filet entrees! We swung by here after a day of diving in Key Largo & were excited to have a good sunset view on the water, some fresh iced tea, and good seafood. Our server was nice but extremely slow, but luckily we weren’t in any hurry. The iced tea was machine tea so it was anything but fresh. We got a coconut shrimp appetizer that was so dry & bland, and the citrusy sauce with it needed a bit more of something else, not sure what that is though. The blackened tilapia was certainly the caliber that I get from Costco in Raleigh NC… soooo disappointing to be a seafood place in the keys that serves frozen seafood. YUCK. All in all, our meal was like $ 65 for 2 iced teas, an appetizer, &2 small entrees, and the food was just horrible. I’m certain Long John Silver’s serves better stuff–(is that even in business?)

I made a quick stop on my way to Islamorada. Please enjoy the patio on the water and take in the views. I was craving oysters and was told they were out for the day. I understand It happens but it seems that would be a staple at a well known seafood restaurant on the water. So I was a little sad inside when I was told they were out. I was in a hurry so I ordered a conch starter. I misunderstood the menu description, it said the conch was in coconut milk so I thought it was like a ceviche since it didn’t mention that it was breaded and fried. I also didn’t ask. I’m eating healthier these days so when the fried conch came out it looked and smelled delicious, and I’m sure it’s great I just couldn’t break my diet. The server was totally understanding and took it off the bill immediately. I did get a key lime pie to go. When I got home I was blown away! The key lime pie is a must and by far the best key lime pie I’ve ever had! I will definitely be back and highly recommend you make this a dining destination or stop in for a drink and take in the view!

We looked up at this place and it had really great reviews. We got there and there was a really beautiful views right on the water. The menu has some really great dishes on it. BUT wow its REALLYEXPENSIVE! $ 25 for the paella dish… not a traditional paella thats big and in a skillet… it was a dish just enough from one person. Now with that said it was DELICIOUS! We also got got the conch fritters which were really tasty but not sure worth $ 12. It was a good portion size though. I have such mixed feelings about this place because it was delicious but so overpriced! My brother got a surf and turf plate and thought it was really tasty. I might come back here if it was a special meal, but not a great place to just eat on holiday.

Lets not focus on the view, because almost like in every place in the keys on the water, its just phenomenal. Lets get to the needy greedy and talk about the food because after all, Like in the Rusty Pelican in Miami, you cannot eat the view when you are hungry. I ordered the Mahi sandwich, with white cheddar mac N cheese and a house salad. This time I let my server steer me in the right direction and I was glad I did. Usually will order my fish blackened, this time my server suggested that if I was into blackened to try their Cajun style. At first I though it was going to be so spice that it would be overwhelming; not the case at all, just enough kick, I would say below blacked but suck a nice unique flavor. It was a hit and highlight of my entire meal. The mac n cheese was Phenomenal also incredibly prepared. Everything here is pretty much made by the house. I’m not a lover of tartar sauce but OMG i could just put their tartar sauce on everything they have to eat, its that delicious. I was not a fan of their Key-lime pie, but desert wont spoil your evening or the meal. In my opinion their desert menu needs a little more TLC and creativity.

We came here for dinner on Friday night, it was a little late but luckily the restaurant was still bustling. We were seated promptly and had our choice of inside or outside. We picked outside as it was a fairly pleasant night, however it did take awhile for our server to first greet us. After that he was fairly attentive but it was hard to hear him at times because he mumbled a lot. My husband started with a local beer and I had a Honey Paloma. My drink was good and had a good strength too and I thought was fair for $ 10. We were starving so when they brought out their bread I was happy. The bread and the butter were really good, they had some tropical flavors that were not too strong and quite tasty. For dinner I had their ribs and my husband had their fish sandwich. I was not feeling sea food this night and was pleasantly surprised by the ribs. They were so tender fall off the bone, not too fatty, and the sauce had the perfect amount of zip, I loved it and was stuffed! My husbands fish sandwich was very good as well. Fish was obviously fresh and seasoned perfectly. He also got their mac and cheese with it and it was decadent, in a good way! We were so full we skipped dessert but we did hear those around us planning to get whole pies to take home with them… next time. This was a good place. It was a little higher price point than the smaller places I had eaten earlier this week but was nice for a little splurge meal. This place would be magnificent during sunset as it is right on the water.
