Excellent service at the market! We couldn’t decide if we wanted to eat there or go back to our hotel and grill. We chose the latter and were very glad we did! The seafood was fresh! We bought the whole yellow tail snapper and it was cleaned for us after we selected our choice. The market staff were so helpful and friendly. The dishes coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great, but I’m happy we chose to just shop at the market. It made for a very memorable last night in Key Largo.

Amazing service, fabulous food, fantastic drinks… We loved it! We called ahead and were told the dress code was«island casual», but we were definitely under-dressed. Having flown in the night before and driven down that day from Ft Lauderdale, we were in «travel clothes»…bandanas to tie our hair back, grungy tees/tanks and shorts. We felt a little uncomfortable, but once the drinks started to flow, we began caring less. ;) The Ginger Pear Martinis were delicious, but the frozen Creamsicle tasted just like a Push-Pop! The crab cakes were mostly crab meat and all three of us enjoyed crab legs. We’ll be back!

Best place to eat after two hour snorkeling in John pennekamp park. The food in this place is amazing! We ate a delicious bowl of cream lobster, shrimp with prosciutto ham, the Mahdi magi matecumbe with rice and black beans and a lemon pecan pie.

Love the conch chowder and stone crab claws! The bartender is the best– best pineapple infused vodka! Key lime pie is always fresh and just love how they do the whipped topping! Always stop on the way in and out of the keys!

My first visit to the fish house. Unfortunately I ordered poorly. I had fried shrimp. They were overlooked and I was friends all had pan seared yellow tail and it was delicious. The rum punches were very good.

Great food– local; great service. If you’re adventurous, ask for the ‘Adrian Mix’… No questions, just do it(aka soup combo).

We saw this place on DDD and decided to give it a try next time we were in the Keys. We stopped in and were seated immediately. The service was just OK throughout the visit, even though we had several people come by to handle our table throughout our stay. The prices are WAYYYY too high for dinner! We asked about sandwiches, because we just wanted to try their offerings, but didn’t want huge meals. Fortunately, because of the time of day we came, they were able to let us order sandwiches, which were still a lilt pricey. The side dishes were ok… nothing spectacular.

We ordered the Mahi sandwich and the Mahi filet for my 4 year old. It was perfectly grilled. Great place! Waitress was awesome, they sat us in the way back corner. Had a nice view of the whole room.

We stopped here without even looking up any reviews and were pleasantly surprised to say the least. Staff was extremely friendly and service was top notch. Our food was served quickly despite the fact that there wasn’t an empty seat in the house. I recommend the Conch Chowder, Raw Oysters and the«Matccumbe» which is a house specialty.

Order the fish dip and take some home. Delicious! Came by after a fishing trip in the Keys. This is a nice, fish themed restaurant that houses a bar and a fresh fish department along with their restaurant. I even heard that they can cook your fresh catch to order so feel free to bring your own fish! I order the Grouper sandwich. It was delicious. I ordered it with fries. I recommend it. The fish portion in the sandwich was a good size. Not overwhelmed with seasoning so you are able to taste the freshness. Yum. The service was good and I recommend this place.

Driving down to the Key’s last weekend we were starving by time we arrived into Key Largo so we decided to Unilocal a seafood restaurant and I found this place with many of my friends who had very trusted reviews. It was around 8 pm Friday evening. Parking was simple with plenty spots behind the restaurant. From the outside it does not look like much. The inside is a laid back nautical scene and old. Not sure how long it has been here but I would imagine quite a long time. Nothing fancy, small bar when you walk in with many locals hanging out. Across the front door is an open seafood display where you can purchase fresh seafood, then another counter with key lime pie to go. The dining area has wooden booths where we sat comfortably across the bar. The staff all work together so you have several staff members checking on you throughout your meal. Cocktail…yes please give me a Margarita, pretty good I would say. I started with the New England Clam Chowder soup. It had just the right amount of consistency, not to thick or thin, plenty of clams and great flavor. The only thing that could have made it better would have been oyster crackers. They had regular crackers on the table. It was a great soup and I was excited to order my entrée. Our friendly server explained some of the menu items and a few entrée’s that are the most popular dishes. The menu has so many amazing seafood dishes to choose from. All you have to do is sit there and watch these amazing dishes come out of the kitchen and can’t wait to get your food. A server stopped at our table when he saw us starring at the dishes he was taking to another table. After seeing these amazing dishes we knew exactly what to order. I chose the Grouper Matecumbe and hubby had the Grouper Hemmingway. The Matecumbe is baked and topped with fresh tomatoes, shallots, capers, fresh basil, olive oil and lemon juice. A healthy option and it was delicious. The fish was fresh and all the flavors combined made this dish perfect! The Grouper Hemmingway is breaded with Italian breadcrumbs and baked topped with a basil cream sauce. We both enjoyed our meals very much. I definitely decided anytime I am near this area it will be a MUST visit for us. Prices are reasonable for the quality and service is great. Fabulous place to grab some excellent seafood.

I had been on a snorkelling tour in John Pennekamp and one of the staff recommended eating here. I am glad they did recommend. It was very busy but as I was on my own I got seated at the bar right away. I ordered swordfish with a garlic butter sauce and had potatoes homemade coleslaw and half a corn. It hit the spot. Nothing fancy but very quick service and tasty food. Nice atmosphere but I don’t get the dark artificially lit bars and restaurants not only in the keys but it seems a common theme throughout Florida. I love being outdoors and if I can’t be seated outside, the next best thing is to look through a big window. I noticed some outdoor seating as you walk into the property but it was by the main road. There are restaurants in the keys that have the right balance but this place was so very convenient. I took some of their homemade key lime pie home which I can recommend. I feel I made a food choice error, as nice as my meal was. They have a special topping that goes on the fish which I should have gone for. I was hangry and found it difficult to choose. Next time it will be the signature with a catch of the day. Tips Great place to go if you have spent time at John Pennekamp and need refuelling. Sitting at the bar can save time on waiting for a table to become available.

My family and I have been going here for many years. Yes their selection is very extensive and yes not everything is going to taste 100% amazing. But it is called the fish house. So I would definitely recommend ordering fish. Their fish is some of the freshest in the keys and they have been featured on Guy Fieris and Bobby Flays show for the Matecumbe fish. So if that’s what their internationally known for, I would recommend ordering that. Recommendations: cracked conch appetizer, any of their«catch of the days», hogfish, mahi mahi or yellowtail snapper. You can have them as a sandwich or just grilled/fried. Their oysters are also delicious as well as their crab legs. Atmosphere I’d definitely very sea like with nets and lights hanging from the ceiling and the wooden interior with wall to wall pictures of people catching fish or articles of the keys. I have never had an issue with their customer service. I’ve been their when they were very very packed and they have accommodated us very well, even with large parties. Don’t forget to order their home made key lime pie!

The restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel … and was recommended by the hotel desk staff. We were told that the Dinners Drive Ins and Dives show was featuring it that evening on the Food Network. So we were intrigued. The restaurant was very busy and a bit crowded. The waiter recommended the catch of the day in a MATECUMBE preparation. We had never heard of this before. My wife saw the potential of the preparation as described on the menu( ) … I thought it would be awful. The fish was broiled and in the cooking process topped with a sauce made of chopped Spanish onion, capers, chopped shallots, chopped tomatoes, chopped basil leaves, salt, pepper, lemon juice, olive oil. Severed with rice. It was excellent taste sensation. The«brochette» type flavor on top of the fish was a great & unexpected combination. Read more at: I cannot remember what I had … But MATECUMBE prepared fish she had was excellent.

Don’t bother. We showed up on a Friday night about 7.30pm, it was pretty busy and we had no reservation so we got a drink and waited at the bar. 10 mins or so later we were being seated. The menu is huge and we’re no from around here, so trying to choose something that I haven’t had before isn’t easy especially with so much on the menu. I felt like the waitress was a bit peeved that I was taking so long. I ended up asking what Conch was because its pretty popular in the area, she explained it but not without a little sigh, like«I’m busy and I wish you would just pick something but I’ll answer the question anyway» type of a sigh. We got the stone crab entrée which we knew would be about $ 40, but was it worth it? Not really. It was nice but not melt in your mouth nice. The butter sauce however, I could have drank it! So damn delicious! I tried the fried conch and hubby got the mussels. I was going to get the appetiser size with a side salad but the waitress suggested something useful, I could get that as an entrée and it’ll cost about the same. Although in my opinion, conch is horrible. The tomato sauce helped drone out the flavour but I couldn’t keep trying to eat it, it was too much. The mussels were nice when you didn’t get a bit of shell in your mouth, which was far too frequent to really enjoy them. It looked like they had died by savage beating rest her than boiling. I didn’t enjoy the broth that they were cooked in but my hubby did. Overall, far too pricey for the quality.

This place is a little gem. Yes, it definitely needs upgrading but ‚“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” seems to work here. The décor is extremely outdated and seems like it hasn’t been renovated since it was built but maybe that’s the whole charm of the place. It’s quite cozy inside and you have an option of sitting in the cozier front or around the back more where the seafood market and bar is. Old pictures crowd the walls and a poster and signed autograph of Guy Fieri is on the wall(if your a true lover of food you should know who that is) along with tourist brochures of fun adventures in the beautiful Florida Keys. I haven’t been here in a whole minute and it would take longer to wait for the rest of our party to grab a table so we sat at the bar. The menu looks great with a lot of seafood selections(I love that about the Keys) so it took me a minute to decide what I really wanted. It was still cold so I decided to start off on the new England clam chowder(you can never go wrong with chowder) it warmed my soul and soothed my sore throat. Then I ordered the blackened grouper sandwich with fries. This sounds silly but I love it when sandwiches come with a dill pickle, there my fav! The fish was good but I would’ve preferred a little more seasoning. The fries were on point(how can you mess up fries anyway) and my pickle was awesome. My friends both had the lobster bisque and enjoyed it so much even took one to go. Their main dishes were the crab cake sandwich and the steamed mussels with garlic and wine yummy, I must go back and order that as my main dish as well it was so good. Needless to say our whole dining experience was great and left my belly so full I almost had to be rolled out of there. So next time your in the Keys and you want a good decent meal at a local spot, come inside kick back and enjoy, trust me your going to feel like a happy stuffed pig walking out of there

This place is always a stop for me when I’m leaving the keys because they make the best lobster bisque everrrrrrrrrrr!!! I also ordered the crab sandwich that is made fresh daily. All there fish and seafood come directly from the keys from local fishermen which is a thumbs up in my book lol. My friend ordered steamed mussels that were cooked with fresh garlic sauce and it also was served with toasted bread with the same garlic flavor. My fellow Unilocaler Ericka G was also there and ordered the grouper sandwich that is a signature at this restaurant. The inside could use a little remodeling but in a way I like it like that makes it feel homie. The one thing I regret not ordering was the key lime pie. The parking was convenient and there was no wait to be seated its def. Must to come here.

Fab fab fab fab place… I went here based on other Unilocalers(thanks all). The ambience was wonderful and the staff even better. Very professional yet warm and welcoming. We got a nice corner table for the 2 of us. I love oysters and this is exorbitant in London. Therefore, I decided to give it a try here. The oysters were great and also the wasabi sauce that came along with it. I ate all of the half a dozen oysters I got with a lovely glass of Californian Chardonnay. For mains, the dude who took care of us recommended the Matacumbe style seafood. I ordered this with yellowtail snapper. The fish is topped with fresh basil, cappers, fresh tomatoes, shallots and olive oil and baked in the oven. The sides options were rice with black bean, fries, coleslaw and something else which I cannot remember anymore. I ordered this with sides of black bean rice. My husband ordered for a sandwich with yellowtail snapper seared with jerk seasoning and fries. I personally love fish which is cooked with fresh ingredients and is NOT deep fried or battered. I have had some difficulty finding something to my taste with fish. I also hate Mahi Mahi. Therefore, the dish I wanted was exactly what I got served. I was simply blown away with it, so much so that I actually never spoke and except the squeezed lemon wedge I had nothing left on my sizzler kind of plate. This place is on the main highway itself(northbound) therefore there is no detour required. Since everyone who visits the keys will have to cross key largo and therefore this restaurant, please go for food at this place. If you are not a seafood lover then don’t bother. Though they serve a variety of things which I am sure is great as well I would recommend going for seafood.

This is a cosy and very friendly restaurant just north of the main strip in Key Largo. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese which was a little disappointing. There was no cheesy topping, and the sauce was a touch watery. And for an appetiser, it was HUGE. I had the boiled shrimp and crab with sweet potato for main, which was much better. The portion sizes were absolutely belly busting. The quality was ok but the service was absolutely impeccable. Tessa(I think) could not have been more attentive and respectful. This would get a 3 stars for the food but the service was fantastic so this gets a 4.

On this extremely hot visit to Key Largo, we were in dire need of lunch. Since I had bookmarked this spot a while back, I had a willing partner and off we went. Upon entering the restaurant, it was a bit dark and felt more like dinner than lunch. We were lucky to find a table since it was packed. Upon being seated, I couldn’t help but gawk at the décor that did not leave any bare space on the wall or ceiling. I immediately gravitated to a jelly fish glass ceiling lamp. «Squirrel» Of course, I took a picture. I finally directed my attention to my menu. I almost ordered the fish taco’s but upon finding out it was fried instead of grilled, I opted for the shrimp quesadillas. So glad I did. The food arrived quickly, and the presentation was appetizing. The meal was definitely plentiful and satisfying. Prices for lunch were average and not too expensive. Regarding the service, our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable with menu items. Definitely enthusiastic too! To sum it up, this place is a hole in the wall, funky, no frills restaurant that I really enjoyed!
