We went on a Wednesday and ended up being there for happy hour so we got $ 2 off our beers. Ladies also get $ 2 off beers all day Wednesday! We ordered a chicken and rice bowl and a caprese salad. Both were delicious! We also tried about three different beers each and were pretty pleased with all of our picks. The bartender was happy to give us a taste of each before we ordered a pint. We will definitely be visiting this spot again when we’re lucky enough to be back in Maui :)

Good bar. Nice staff. Surf videos playing and live sports on quality displays. Interesting music played at a volume low enough to converse. The Mexican food is truly, crazy, inexplicably good. My wife is Mexican and has eaten real Mexican food her whole life and she said«this might be the best tamale I’ve ever had. Yep, a beer focused bar in Maui blew away two Californians with Mexican food. Does one need any more info than that? Go there! Eat drink and be happy! The only problem is that it shares a parking lot with other bars in a configuration that seems to encourage smokers to ply their stinky habit in close proximity to where patrons eat and drink. Not the fault of What Ales You though. Maui county, get it together! Don’t let people burn stink sticks near restaurants! Only smokers don’t mind the smell of burning garbage while they eat and smokers are a very small minority.

Aloha, we were so excited to come and experience What Ales you! We live in Haiku and have a young son, had a sitter for the night. So that means date night for us! We had heard only great things, saw on both Unilocal and the website that you were open on Mondays. Drove out and saw the sign saying closed Monday’s! Oh no! Far drive. Anyway giving a 3 stars because we will come out again and try it out. Please at least change your info to reflect your true days closed! See ya soon!

Genuinely friendly owner and staff by itself makes this a great place to hang out. There is also a great selection of craft beers(new ones all the time), a huge comfortable patio outside and cold AC inside. Tons of new TVs with sports and really interesting brats make this an easy five stars which really stands out in the triangle section of Kihei.

We probably wouldn’t have come to this place had it not been for the nice old guys hanging out out front that recommended the place and the fantastic reviews here on Unilocal. In short, this place is amazing! The husband and I split the Surfing Goat Salad and the special of the day which was a Philly cheesesteak. The salad was fantastic with ripe strawberries, fantastic avocado and most tasty goat cheese ever. The philly was fantastic as well! We found out from the bartender that they make double the amount of carne asada on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday’s and let it marinade overnight for the sandwich the next day. Combined with some aioli that tastes just like right cheese, the sandwich was awesome too! The beer list has a great variety and they’ll let you taste whatever you’re interested in. We had the Tangerine Wheat(very refreshing), PB Stout(tastes JUST like peanut butter at the end), the mocha stout(hint of chocolate at the end) and Cali Creamin(like a cream ale) and all were super yummy. The staff were very friendly and Cara, our bartender, was great to talk to, great sense of humor and an all around nice woman. While we sat at the bar, there was some super comfy looking seating on the outside in the shade. All in all we’d definitely come here again. Definitely go there! Highly recommend it — our only regret is that we found it on our last day on the island.

I haven’t been to Maui in a few years, my girlfriend has come here through her entire life. It’s a relatively new place imbedded amongst some other more established bars, but this place is a standout. It’s more of a lounge than dive bar, best beer selection in the area, best bar I’ve been to for miles. Contributing factor; we were offered tasters of any beer on tap we liked, which equated to a taster tray one would pay $ 20 for at a brewery. Killer tacos on tuesday. Get there and enjoy. Aloha.

Craft beers are found here for the beer nerds, and they’re really good! The staff are super nice & apparently it gets crowded in the evening. We went here three times during our stay which probably says a lot.

It was such a treat to find this place. Kara, the bartender was amazing and personable. The have awesome craft beers. The cook, I can’t remember his name, was so nice. He heard we were from Alaska, as was he, and he came out to talk to us. It turned out we knew a lot of the same people. We have been to quite a few friendly places here on Maui, but this place is at the top!

Small selection of awesome food, large selection of awesome beers on tap. There are not many places on island where you can get a delicious(organic!) bratwurst, a bowl of home made meaty chili and rice, or a house made hummus. And it’s all so good! The condiments are all house made with a local twist(taro mayo and lilikoi hot sauce — so so tasty) and totally worth ordering a sampler plate so you can try them all! If I have found myself overwhelmed by the selection I’ll usually ask my server. Every thing I have had suggested has left me incredibly satisfied. This is not the place to bring your baby or your drunk friend who needs to be tended to like one. This is a pretty chill place to come for a great brew and a pupu or maybe a salad(add a brat!) Happy hour has daily food specials and deals on drafts!

Decided to hang out here while the friends had $ 100/plate sushi down the way. Really friendly and attentive staff, long and varied beer list and some sweet pork tacos on taco tuesday, don’t forget the lilikoi hot sauce! Highly recommended!

Our first stop while we were waiting to get into our condo. If you are into craft beers, THISPLACEISAMAZING! They have 16 Icy Cold Craft Beers on tap, a good selection of wines, bratwurst and sausages with some of the best sauces(gotta try the mustard and the spicy red sauce on your brats) We also got to try a cheese and hummus plate and it was very tasty. They have a happy hour from Noon-3 p.m. where it is $ 2 off all drafts and brats for $ 6. Indoor A/C and Outdoor Seating(Kicking it outdoors is excellent. Why come to Maui to sit inside?) Everyone we encountered(whether it was the bar staff or the customers, were very welcoming.) The place has an excellent feel and i’m sure we will be there a couple more times before we have to leave.

November 14, 2015 Saturday — 12 noon for drinks and food 4 adults Atmosphere — 5 star Food & Drinks — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Thanks to Unilocal,Dale found this place on our drive to our condo. Atmosphere — Located with a little«mall» it hides well in there. A small bar with a great tap selection. We sat out on their deck to really start our vacation in Maui. What a relaxing little spot to escape from everything. They had a few televisions playing college football, it was completely ignored by us. Food & Drinks — With sixteen taps the beer floors with great choices. But the star today was their small bites. We started with three different sausages on one cut board while the other was humus plate with veggies. After a few beers we ordered another small plate, this was the knockout punch. It was a cheese and fruit plate. Such a great variety of local fruits and some great cheeses. The blueberry cheese was a great finisher. Service — Knowledgeable and friendly staff, they know their beer. Future — I think they have the cure!

Located next to Kalama shopping village, this place is a welcome respite for #craftbeer geeks on vacation. I am a degenerate drinker so I’ve had MOST of the stuff on their beer menu. There’s nothing esoteric or kooky. But… THEYHAVEGOODBEER! If you’re looking to escape a lager-wasteland and avoid super-saccharine tropical drinks, this place will bolster you, hold you up, hug you, kiss you and tell you that YES! YOUARELOVED! Hope levels replenished, you’ll be able to head out into the blistering sun for some surfing, koloa pig eatin’ or getting past page 5 of War and Peace. Outside lanai(porch to fellow haoles) is Pottery Barn chic. Soft cushions, tables, candles, etc. Inside, urban crafty with maritime feel. Their logo, an octopus, creatively woven into a growler design. Artwork. A couple of TVs. Decent craft beer selection dominated by West Coast breweries. The food is limited– salads and locally sourced sausages. Enough to get something in your belly if you plan on having a few pops, but far from an extensive dining experience. Which is, perhaps, their goal anyway. I HATE it when places try to be everything for everyone. That’s when you become bland. Ok at most things but not great at any one thing. Here, they are focusing on craft beer. Which is grand. Fellow geeks! Significant Other determined to persue each and every stall in Kalama Market next door? No prob! I’ll be here, hon! I the AC. With GOOD beer! It’s an oasis. It’s like those secret rooms in Mario Brothers. You think you’re fucked but then you fall through a secret door and are surrounded with power-ups. Fellow geeks. Get thee to this place. Power up. Kill the Boss. Be a hero. Aloha.

Excellent place for craft beer on the island. Great Brats, fish tacos and tamales. We may be here every single day of our vacation! Ok didn’t lie. We are back on day 2 of our vacation and fully expect we’ll be back tomorrow. Awesome friendly laid-back atmosphere and 3 large screens for sports, if that’s your thing. Great beers but really digging the Double Overhead IPA from Maui Brew Co. Just go here. Seriously.

Ale? Lots of ale? Craft ale? Yes please! LOCATION: In the infamous, neighbor-hated Kihei Kalama Village, north side next to Kahale’s. ATMOSPHERE: It’s like a small house where you can lounge on the open-air and covered front lanai, or inside with a big bar and table seating. This is the former Pita Paradise space. MENU: Beer! According to our awesome server Lacy, they’ll keep 8 ales as regular menu items, and the rest will rotate. The beer is shipped«live,» meaning cold. They’ll eventually offer international selections as well. Great! They also offer wine, and light fare including salads, cheese & crackers, hummus, and bratwurst. BEER: Avery White Rascal — Colorado — For my first try, I went mainstream. Well not mainstream really; just something I knew I’d enjoy. Great flavor, a bit citrusy. $ 7 for a glass. I really wanted to try more but we ended our beach day here and was pooped. SERVICE: Lacy was so knowledgeable, friendly, smiley, and professional. A rarity these days! OVERALL: An awesome concept, and really a first for Maui. Good prices, great service. We definitely will be back!

This place opened less than 2 months ago in the Triangle, and I may end up updating and giving a 5 star. So far I was very pleased with my first and only visit after just discovering it. Looks like they will be having a rotating tap with beers that most places on Maui would not have.(And you can taste first) The outside lounge area was very relaxed. Haven’t tried food yet. Menu seemed limited on food, but as the name suggests, it’s more of a drinking place. I’m already looking forward to going again.
