The best breakfast you’ll find, period. This place is always packed, and with good reason! Very open layout, and they always manage to get you seated in timely fashion. Someone always passes through offering coffee refills, and you don’t have to wait long for a delicious breakfast!

The NICEST service and great, great food! Very attentive with the coffee pot and great, made-to-Order breakfast that really could not be better. Definitely will be returning to this OBX gem!

Best breakfast shop on the Outer Banks. Straight-up, no frills, calm and collected, breakfasts. Family oriented. Delicious waffles and pancakes come on bawdy, colorful plates. Insanely addictive coffee; is it mixed with some secret ingredient from the ocean? Heaped plates of grits, gravy, hash with orange juice. Place to come for couples visiting(grab a corner spot) and large families on travels. Kitchen and staff are locals, some of the time. Be nice, they will return kindness. Waitress sat and spoke with us. Get in-line, order to your hearts content; then allow your appetite to devour the High Stack. If you can.

We were led here by Unilocal and it did not disappoint… Quick service, unique delivery/ordering system and it works. We had the loaded hash browns, custom ham, sausage, mushroom, and cheddar omelet, and a short stack. It was all good though the omelet would have benefited from fresh mushrooms instead of the canned type. People were nice and although it was busy it didn’t feel cramped. We would visit again.

this place was great for breakfast, they’re only open for it. Basically cafeteria style, order at the line and they take your order. Do the biscuits and gravy, great to have, it was STACKED as well.

Love Stack Em High! Get there early to(mostly) avoid the lines. Great good at fair prices. Pancakes are really good but we love the Breakfast Wrap. It’s a cool place with whimsical phrases painted all over the place. The owner is funny dude who cares about his customers & runs a tight ship.

Cafeteria style ordering distracts you while you wait on line to the cashier. Select from fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. Grab and self-serve. Order and pay at the cashier before being seated. Drink runners very attentive, refilling water/teas, and coffee immediately. I ordered the Greek Omelette. It was packed with fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, and feta cheese. Grits as a side(without cheese — with cheese is an option), and wheat toast were great to accompany the omelette. My boyfriend ordered the sausage and cheese omelette. He said that there were a good amounts of both inside. It was crowded but the line moved fast, a bit hot and humid with fans going but it was nearly 90 degrees outside. Would come again next time on the OBX, maybe try the pancakes, which looked really good coming from the kitchen.

Love this place! Been coming for the past 10 years. Every time we come to OBX we make this a mandatory stop for sure. Menu is amazing, staff is extremely friendly and the food is delicious! Lines are very common, but be patient because it is worth the wait. You place your order at the register, pay and then sit where you would like to wait for food to arrive. This family pancake house will not disappoint and be sure to thank the man who is running around like a crazy chicken — he is the proud owner doing an amazing job of being personable and loving on his guests!

The food was very good and filling. It was a little pricey but compared to the surrounding area it was fair. The buiscut and gravy was very tasty but was lacking sausage they just put a few crumbles. The fruit was fresh. They allow for you to ask for boxes to go if you cannot finish.

They come in short stacks(3) and tall stacks(5) and are prepared exactly right, golden and delicious! This place really reminds me of sleep away summer camp’s mess hall combined with your high school lunch cafeteria. The KDH location is always packed with the parking lot at capacity each morning of the week. On Sat /Sun you can just forget about it. We went down the buffet line where you get a tray and your own coffee(waffle house style, nothing fancy) and read the menu. When you get to the lady at the end of the line you place your order and pay at the cash register. They give you a number and you pay for your meal upfront, which is nice because when you are done you just leave, no waiting around for a check. This place is great for families and large groups. They have their share of long communal tables, booths, and cute one on on tables in a small private side room by the windows. Our group got a slew of gluttonous items and pigged out. Chocolate Chip & Pecan Tall Stack complete with salted butter on top, the homemade gravy poured over biscuits, and the loaded bacon and cheddar hash browns which were crispy and cheesy heaven, this was my favorite. They have a ton of high school aged teens busing the tables aggressively so the moment you set your fork down they whisk away your plastic high impact 80’s era cafeteria plate. I’m assuming they just need to get those back to the dishwasher ASAP as the demand at this plate never stops. It’s a literal pancake feeding assembly line of buttery goodness. After getting full southern style at this place you will surely pass out on the beach happy and full(not healthy) or on your car ride home. I’d go back but its not going to be good for my heart, just good for the soul. Typing this with buttery hands. ;)

We went in with a party of 20 or so and the staff was very accommodating with seating and prompt with service. Our«server» was hands on and great sense of humor. The restaurant is set up cafeteria style but the food is pretty darn good. I was a little apprehensive standing in line waiting to order but the line moves quickly. Once our order was place, our meals were in front of us within 5 – 10 minutes. Quality of food was fresh and tasty– I ordered the greek omelette and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and vibrance of flavors in the dish.

Friends who had been here raved about how good it was, and it is always so busy, so we had to try it. I ordered the western omelette which came with hash browns and English muffin. I was dismayed to find American cheese in the omelette. It was disgusting. Who still uses American cheese on anything other than a fast food burger? I would suggest that management specify on the menu board that the cheese is «American» cheese. Or preferably, use real cheese. The hash browns were too salty and had zero crunch. They were also discolored, as if the potato had been left out too long before they were cooked. At least that means they were made recently with real potato? Hash browns should be at least a little bit crispy. The English muffin seemed to be buttered and toasted on the skillet, and was the best part of the meal. I also tried a bit of my wife’s pancakes. They were flimsy and limp. With long lines, the place is always packed so they must have got something right, if only an ideal location. One nice thing about renting a house in OBX is having a full kitchen, which allows me to cook breakfast at home and avoid coming back here.

Pancakes with salted butter??? Come on! Service:?Service is awful waitresses keep asking you to refill your coffee. Food: Pancakes which were supposed to be the speciality here are served with salted butter. Half way to the center they became so salty that no amount of syrup could make it edible. I had to leave more than half of my pancakes. When one of the servers asked how everything was, I told him the salted pancakes, he left to ask management and never came back. They keep asking if everything is OK just for heck of it. Logistics: Bathrooms are located at the entrance of the place where there is always a line. Thus, you need to go through the ordering line to wash your hands and back under the disgruntled eyes of the customers line up on a narrow line. Yeah famous place all right, but cant handle the traffic it gets. People are there for the un-rustically old ambiance and pancakes which are hardly to mess up unless you use salted butter on something that is supposed to be eaten sweet. And what is up with all white servers while blacks are doing the table cleaning job? Simply an awful place for folks with low expectations.

One word to describe stack um high… SOLID! First off grab a tray when you enter and select your sides and beverage out. You place your order at the end of the counter and basically pick a table. The food here great! The pancakes are so dam tasty good! Very comparible to so local places at home. I absolutely enjoyed the pancakes! The sides good! Nice crispy bacon and the eggs where light and fluffy as if they add creamer to them… I loved it! The only knock once to ever is the pancakes are on the thinner side. I guess maybe because I’m used to home but 5 hotcakes here equal 2 regular ones at some places at home. Also the 2 eggs seemed smaller here as well or we do overkill in comparison in WNY. Either way if absolutely stop on in for a great tasting breakfast when I’m in the outerbanks! It sure beats the hell out of hotel food for sure!
